After giving myself some time thinking over all of this 4th edition uproar, I can say that at least for the very temporary time being I've hit a moment of serene happiness... I know my direction now, its retro.

I'm a small bit player in the professional game development side... which will require me to eventually buy the core 4th books, but I also concentrate a great deal on system/edition generic products, which makes my gamer design more useful to my writing.

I'm staying with 3.5.... in fact, I'm not only staying with 3.5, I'm also merging it somewhat with 3.0 (the conversions aren't ttthhhhhhaaaaat painful), going out, buying up a few extra copies of books.... and then.....

I'm going even more retro.
I'm going to go back and get me some 2nd edition books, ones I should have never sold off, get myself some 1st edition books... gradually, and round me up a copy of Rules Cyclopedia. After that, I'm gonna start scrounging around for old role playing games and current ones of different varieties.... including those two editions of that one game I cannot remember the name of for the life of me that I bought from Wargames West on clearance (both editions) back in the mid-nineties....

Does anyone remember a softcover fantasy role playing game that featured an iconic group of adventurers with an assassin/thief type on the cover that appeared to have his face covered up in an almost Spawn like mask (well, semi-featureless with red around the eyes.... I think). I remember that Corsair was one of the character classes.

I'm gonna scrape up those books... provided I can remember all their names... and go retro.
And play 3.5

Stop! People are buying 3.x books for too much!

We just had a LGS go under, they almost sold out of all their 3.x books at 50% off (only had 2 FR books and some older 3.0 third party stuff left). I was hoping to round out my collection at $5 a pop...

Sadly I have most of the books that I really wanted anyway. There's only a couple that I feel a real need for (although I DO wish I could get them cheap).

Dragon... thanks for the concern but I've found a few places I can get the books I'm wanting for cheap.

Plus, anything to help the cause...

I'll be sitting on my hands (apart from any serious bargains) until next Black Thursday- then I expect to see a lot of folks clearing out their remaining Third Edition stock.
I'm hoping for some serious bargains.

Start?- Well said, Pres Man.

For the rest, yes, I have the same mentality as the rest of you... though I may go ahead and start swooping down on some of the 3.0 books for right now... then grab the 3.5

Although, wouldn't that just be a real beef for WotC... if they had lackluster sales with the release of 4th edition but suddenly their remaining 3.5 inventories started selling like hot cakes?

Either way, I'll probably buy alot of Used-Like News but perhaps a few news.

For the sake of wonder, does anyone have a clue as to just when WotC cut off remaining printings of existing 3.5 core books... assuming they've long since made their last print run....

If you want books, I got 100 that I'll sell for $1000.

I am looking forward to buying minis from people who quit.

I've been doing this a lot. A LOT. The last month I've bought 10 box sets/books off of ebay. I've been picking up 3.5 books right and left both online and at the bookstores around here (used). I'm going to start haunting Amazon again here in a few months. The glut of books I've bought in the last three months is so much that I can't hope to keep up with my reading. But it'll die off for me pretty soon. I'll go through a dry spell where nothing new is coming in, and I'll have plenty of time to read it all.

Agreed. I've been buying 3.x books at amazing prices on ebay (most of them brand spanking new too). The most I paid for any book (including shipping) is the Spell Compendium at $16. My average is between $8-10 (again, including shipping).

Osirion (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

After talking it over with my wife, we're neither one sure that 4.e is the game for us. I'll probably wait another month or two (there's a check coming in the mail I hear) and then start looking on ebay and the like for bargains.

I'll probably buy the 4e core books next year but unless something really changes in what I am seeing, buying older books cheap seems like the way to go for me.

Anybody willing to sell a near-complete collection for 100 bucks? :)

I would love to have a full library of 3.5. Still have my ample stock of 1st Ad&d, ODnD, and 2.0 books to start a solid historical library (no they are not for sale!). Hell, I may even get a few 4th Ed books if I can really polish off my colletion of 3.5.

Assuming there's a dedication page in the PHB to the Great DM, I am probably going to buy the PHB.

The only 3.5 book I'd be interested in purchasing is the Rules Compendium. But I'm not that eager to purchase it. So, it'd have to be pretty much at a "steal" for me to throw down money.

Have it. Love it. A very well put together book that has already seen a lot of use in the two months I have owned it. It's moved into my top ten list of must have books.

Heh. I got into minis only as a hope to entice my wife to place. Then I got hooked on purchasing. (Not playing.) Only recently have I broken away (and will likely never return).

That said, I've a five and four year old waiting in the ranks to inherit that collection. (And I have A LOT.)

Dibs. DIBS! DIBS!

I have most of the books I need and am starting to collect 3.5 modules now.

I agree. Since I got this, the amount of times my group has had to dig for page numbers has gone down a LOT. I would say it's the best product WotC has put out since tome of magic. :D If that's not your cup of tea, reach back all the way to complete arcane.

It's really well put together, and I hope for the people who go 4E that the core books are as well laid out.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

Ok, what 3rd party books are people looking for?

I'm likely going to go back and round out the DCC modules,

Maybe some more GR stuff. Anyone know how Bastards and Bloodlines reads?

I've all the Scarred Lands stuff, and should have all the Dragonlance stuff (I'm a completest, the rewritten classics are, sorry to say, showing their age)

White Wolf's Ravenloft is well worth getting (I've even their Tarroka Deck. The Harrow deck has some big shoes to fill)

Necromacer stuff that trickles out.

Wishing Dreamscarred would do a print run of their expanded classes.

If I can find them, the Books of X might series.

Edit: Shouldn't this be in the d20/ogl group?

I've been adding 3.5 books to my Amazon Wishlist and buying them when they're available for around $5.

This Christmas was a BIG 3.5 blowout for me... I got a ton of stuff!

Oddball thing is: I'm set against buying into 4E (haven't liked what I've seen, and most of the locals seem more interested in 3.5E and other systems), and am planning on sticking with 3.5E, but every few days we come across some glitch in the rules (usually from changes over the past year or two when WotC has been gearing up for 4E) that has me looking at my gaming shelf going "Hmm... do I really need that book any more?" One more purge, and Green Ronin/True20 will out number WotC products on the shelf.

So, if you're in Louisville, KY, there's a comic shop on Bardstown Rd near Taylorsville Rd that's been seeing an influx of 3.5E books lately. I think they resell 'em for half price, and the books were well cared for...

Hey Carlson... I should probably just phone you and ask you this.. but if you have.. or see.. a copy of Lords of Madness (for 3.5) let me know willya?

I sadly have bought most 3.X and D20 already, but the hunt is on for the last few ones missing.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Modules Subscriber)

3.5 books are the only things I'm buying.

I ended up buying all of Goodman's DCCs, which I wasn't all that interested in before, as well as Paizo's Gamemastery stuff, which I also was going to ignore (dislike Golarion and didn't like the sound of a couple of concepts they used in some of the modules).

But at this point, any 3.5 adventure is worth getting, because soon the well will dry up. We hope to have enough to last us until my buddies and I tire of gaming.

i've been picking up stuff I want for awhile as I find it on sale. I can always use ideas and info no matter what I end up running.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Tales Subscriber; GameMastery Superscriber)

I wish WotC would market 4th edition better.

Some of the 3.5 books on eBay from the UK are still at ridiculous prices. Don't these people realise what they are selling is obsolete!

Funny thing is, I'm only in the market for the books I don't want much; I bought the rest when they came out :)

I have a huge used book store in my area (like warehouse sized). I've been buying D&D books for them all 1-3.5 for around 8 to 18 bucks. I have noticed a influx of more 3rd ed. book which means low prices hehehe.

I know that I will be buying more 3.5 books. I know that Paizo has gotten a lot of my money on these sales.

I've been buying some 3.5 books. I'm still buying only new books though. I haven't the desire to buy someone else's cast-offs yet. I picked recently picked up Races of Stone and Races of the Wild for $5 each and MM2, MM3, MM4, and Races of the Dragon for about $10 each. All new, baby.

I have an unread copy of "The city of splendours: Waterdeep" to swap for spare miniatures. Minis are not available retail where I live. I would gladly post off the hardcover to someone, wait till they have it and confirm, then have them post back some spare commons or uncommons. We would each suck up postage. Any takers? I live in Taiwan, so postage is not cheap, but it would be the only fiduciary cost.

I hit one last night and sold off all my WoD2 books because a)It's becoming a retread of WoD1 and b) I've not read them in 2 years. I saw a lot of DMG2, and a Races of set in a slipcover for $40.

I need to swing back tonight and get the later, I've a friend's birthday coming up, and don't know what else to get her. (Maybe a bookshelf for her growing collection *laugh*

Bought alot of setting books at christmas thanks to the $5 sale and the local half price store has been seeing more and more 3.5 books, so I'm taking advantage of that...

Why does this thread have a dot on it? Doesn't that mean it's been locked? This seems to be nice thread. I love cheap books!

Ohhh Have we always had those? Guess not. I had to log out then log back in to post.

And for something on topic. If you are ever in Knoxville, TN there is a book store called McKay's Used Books. It looks like a warehouse, but has tons of used books, movies, records and CDs.

I bought The Quintessential Barbarian, Cleric, Elf, and Wizard for 5 bucks each, last night.

No, the dots are new.

There's also a new message board bug going that Gary Teter is working on, and it's really had some lousy timing.

There's been some moderation taking place in the 4th Edition threads, and when the bug hits.. it looks like a board has been locked when it actually hasn't been. Insert ironic hilarity here. This has compounded the frustration and misunderstandings.

Welcome back Fizz!

LOL I've been here, I'm just laying low. I'm sticking with 3.5, but beyond that I really don't care what is done or said.

This whole thing reminds me of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Jay and SB get mad at the fact that people on messageboards are downing them as characters in an up coming movie, so they try to stop the movie to stop the posts/chaters. In the end they just go to each poster/chater's house and beat the crap out of them.

In Mass, they've been selling 3.5 books by the stack at local Building 19s.

Sadly the same is not true of Southern NH. I've looked. :(

I regularly go over ebay to see if prices are dropping due to the new edition. I already got some nice loot out of this.
