Note: Talk about 4th Edition here. Politely. Personal attacks or insults directed at other members of the Paizo community, or other companies in the industry, will not be tolerated.
My fellow gamers...by replying to this thread, you are taking the pledge to boycott DDI...
I pledge not to allow the greedy butt-heads over at WOTC/Hasbro take my money every month for 4th edition content that should be available for free.
I pledge not to allow these a-holes to require me to subscribe to some idiotic, monthly, pay service, hellhole in order to get information that should have been provided in a core book.
I pledge to encourage other gamers to boycott DDI, expect for one guy in Nebraska. He will let us look at the content on his computer and copy it down, so we can then share it with others. I believe this concept was first invented by Benjamin Franklin; it's called a LIBRARY!!!

Here's the thing; I'm not against corporate greed. I intend to be going into business for myself fairly soon, and let me tell you, I'm a greedy S.o.B. However, that said, I am against craptacular marketing and derision of a player base. So while I certainly won't spend my money on the DDI (I play WoW already), it's because I believe it will be a product not worth my time or investment, not a statement against "corporate greed".
I however am looking forward to a new edition, one that lets me start a new and hopefully shorter list of house rules, one with a DMG that doesn't stink, an edition that streamlines play so it is easier to get newer players up to speed. I am looking forward to an encounter system that can accommodate complex and different opponents. I am looking forward to spending less time behind the screen writing crunch giving me more time to write flavor.
Mike Mearls turned out an excellent source book called Iron Heros. My D&D game changed forever when I read it. If he wants to do something similar to 3.5 D&D; great! I cannot think of a game that needs it more.
Of course, since I'm not going 4E, I'm not going to be using the DDI either. :)
WotC can't even manage to put .pdf compilations of Dragon & Dungeon "magazines" out in a timely manner, though, so I really don't think you need to worry that they'll suddently get their online act together. ;)
But, on the other side, if there are those out there who have extra cash and want to support it, well, it's their dollars. *shrug*
While I sincerely don't blame the designers working hard in their trenches on 4e for this DDI malarkey, I sure simply won't be using it because I'm not goin gto 4e for my D&D games, so I'd have no reason to.
At the same time, so far digital "dungeon" and "dragon" magazines have become a laughing stock, so they'll do their own job of self-defeat.
I did get the feeling that it fizzled.
We have 6 months of Pathfinders since WOTC gutted the magazines and left them hemorrhaging in the cold mud. Is there that much of the mags on the DDI?

I'm not going to boycott DDI. I may not buy it, but I will if it is worth the money.

So. Did you do the same thing when Paizo was expecting to money every month for 3.5 edition content? Were they greedy b@%@-heads for making you pay for that content?

Is he doing the same thing for Pathfinder and Gamemastery products, because that is the first thing that pops into my mind reading your post. It is one thing to not be able to afford or want to pay for D&D stuff, but if you don't want to pay for it getting an illegal copy from a friend is not the answer. If you do not want to pay for it, do not get it. It is that simple.
I consider your one guy the same as someone who copies down Paizo's work for everyone to use without paying.
I'm not sure what the point of this boycott is. It will not cause the DDI material to become free. It is much more likely to make it go away.

I will take a stand against you and your friends greed as you seem to be advocating taking material you will never pay for.
If you are going to boycott, just don't buy anything.
Boycotting a store does not mean you sneak into the store and steal what ever you want.

No.
In your post you are calling the guys at WOTC greedy a-holes and b@~&-heads that want us to subscribe to some idiotic hellhole (?). Further on it seems you suggest to steal their digital content and spread it illegaly.
In my opinion this is pure hate and threads like this one should be closed. I can't see how this is supposed to develop into a discussion.
