Anyone interested in doing commission work to paint some pathfinder miniatures?

I might be interested, how many models would you like painted? I have been painting models for about 19 years, and would be happy to post some pics of my painted figures if you would like to see my style.

thanks
Kelly

I'm willing to do commissions, but I'm not cheap--mainly because I know people can get very picky about specific paint jobs and customizations.

If it's more like "here's Ezren, give him a yellow theme, here's Amiri, give her a red theme, here's Merisiel, give her a blue theme" and so on, that's MUCH easier, and easier means less stress and a disinclination to charge for it.

I know someone who painted a PC mini on commission, and the buyer kept making changes, first in the weapon, and then the colors, and the colors, and the colors, and hey could you change this one color still?

The sad thing is that most people don't want to pay the effective cost for painting a mini. A nice paint job may take 2-4 hours per mini (and that's just for a NICE paint job, not one of those crazy masterwork-level things you'd enter in a contest), not including assembly and such, and anyone who doesn't value their personal time at $10 per hour or more is selling themselves short, which means $20-$40 per miniature is a reasonable charge given the time invested.

Of course, sometimes the painting is the fun part; I'm working on some of the new Reaper Paizo minis right now and tweeting my progress, and I like watching them evolve from bare metal to a finished piece. Depending on the minis involved, I might even be willing to accept payment in the form of minis, as in, "send me two copies of everything you want painted, I get to keep the extra." But I'm a kook that way. :)

And of course I don't speak for Gotrek. :)

I have about 17 pathfinder miniatures that I would like painted. I'd love to see some of the figures you have painted.

thanks

Sean, I'd be happy to have you paint some for me. Being paid in miniatures is very reasonable. I have some of the crocodile pathfinder miniatures and I have a pair of sea elves, a mermaid, and a hippocampus that I will need for an upcoming campaign. Let me know what interests you the most.

Well, what sort of paint job are you looking for? My original post said "here's Ezren, give him a yellow theme, here's Amiri, give her a red theme, here's Merisiel, give her a blue theme." Is that the sort of detail that you're looking for? Because that's pretty low-maintenance and nothing that I'd stress about. Even something like "I want a dark-skinned Ezren with black hair, a red staff, and red clothing" is easy work. It's when you get down to "and his scroll case should be blue, and his boots should be orange, and his gloves should be a darker shade than his vest, and..." that it gets to be a hassle and is no longer fun to paint--and I paint because it's fun.

Have you been following the Paizo twitter? I've been working on 4 of the new Paizo Reaper minis (Ezren, Amiri, Harsk, Arael) and posting pics.

Unless you want to have Gotrek paint your minis, it might be easier to continue this convo in email, I'm sean @ paizo.com

Millerhero,
i would be happy to post some figure pics. I agree with what Sean said about the 2-4 hour level of effort to do a nice paint job, and his cost estimates, while I enjoy painting it does have to be worth ones time. I would be happy splitting the painting with Sean if you would like, or if you would rather have him paint them all that would be good too, he is a talented painter and you wouldn't go wrong.
thanks
Kelly

Well either way, *I* would like to see Gotrek's work, I like seeing how other people paint minis, especially minis that I have, too. :)

Hi

These are the 'paint jobs' on a few of the mini's that my 'on retainer' painter does for me.

His painting is out of this world and far better than can be seen in the photographs. I will try and get some more images up as they are so worth viewing. Enjoy!

Kelly, I emailed Sean about four of the minis I'd like painted. Could I email you about some different ones? (My email address is the same username at gmail.)

Otyugh, thanks for the reply. Your painter on retainer does nice work. I've been trying to contact painters for a while now and was not getting any responses. All of a sudden I have three that are interested in doing the work. If I could get a contact email, I'll keep the retainer in mind if something falls through or for future work.

thanks

No worries. He has more than enough work with me sending my mini's his way and we are in the UK but let me know if you ever want any work done and I will see if he is free...

Nice, Gotrek! I think you are a less lazy painter than I am. ;)
