I wonder if it's Salvatore's choice or his publisher's. It seems that if WoTC wants more Jarlaxle they have to go through Bob or his publisher.
But I doubt they will want to show a "new" Jarlaxle (a shade or something) because they want to focus on the "new Realms" -- without depending on 14th century Dale Years stuff. Or, at the very least, only update one or two characters, no more.
Derek,
The pretend Asmodeus is just saying that Jarlaxle would be dead by now. He'd have to be a shade or something to be around.

Uhm, you mean Artemis Entreri right, Jarlaxle is a drow, so should be fine as well.
Artemis drew some shade blood/essence into him with his vampiric dagger.
And W.E. Ray, we really should have a discussion about the one devil limit, I posted first so this thread is mine. As per contract 60-6 section 6.
The incident with a Shadovar wizard happened in a short story that Salvatore wrote for a FR anthology. At the end of the Damara novels, Artemis quit Jarlaxle's company cause of Jar's meddling with Artemis' mind/soul.
The shade thing was kinda what I was banking on. Anyone know if he's been in anything, post Spell Plague? It would suck if they ended his story where they did at the end of patriarch. Although I guess they didn't have any problems doing that to any other human characters..
Spoiler:
Edit: Per his wiki entry, he's mentioned in the newest Drizzt novel but doesn't make an appearance.

You Sir, are in violation!
Yeah, and you're the FR guy; I'm just occassional FR observer.
What Paizo really needs to do is get that illustration of Asmodeus from the 1977 Monster Manual for me to use. I've been asking for it for almost 4 years now.

I still haven't picked that one up. The current arc is set only a dozen or so years after the Time of Troubles. The first book in this arc's prelude was set after the Spell Plague though.
