Familicide!

Damn, that is evil, in a funny way.

I kill you, your family, your kin, everyone who might even share your DNA. Don't mess with the V.

Shadow Lodge (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

Wow...

Well, now, that's one way to get rid of all the half-dragons. Now, if V could just do that for every gaming world...

Cheliax (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

Familicide.

Bhaal, god of murder, eat your heart out. That's in the vein of how they got rid of assassins when 2nd Ed started out.

I can't be the only one who thinks that's a spell of genocidal proportions, right?

V's attitude towards his/her family is pretty cold too.

Well, V does have three evil spirits inhabiting his/her/its body...

But this also V we're talking about. S/he shows very emption to begin with.

Save when it comes to saving Haley, or humilating Belkar. ;)

Either way, he's shown where his priorities lie. And they aren't with his family.

Knowledge/Power first, family second

Ow.

I loved the half-dragons too.

But wow, that was pretty hardcore.

Reminds me of the Montesi Formula from Marvel Comics' Darkhold that eradicates all vampires. The PCs in a long-running 3rd Ed campaig I had also did something similar on a broader scale, at the end of the campaign eradicating aberrations from existence on the Prime Material.

But that was pretty badass.

You're right, I forgot all about that one.

Uzzy wrote:

If taken all the way to the top and then back down the bloodline...

And that could wind up including some black-dragon blooded sorcerers as well.

Amazing. Although I'm pre-emptively pissed off that Someone Somewhere is going to try and rationalize this as a good act. I imagine Birlew is as well, considering how far he's bent over backwards to make the point that V's gone dark side(much like the Belkar issue).

EDIT: SCRATCH PRE-EMPTIVE THEY'RE ALREADY DOING IT FFS

The argument behind it being a good act seems to be that Black Dragons are always evil, so killing them is a good act. Killing them all is a really good act.

This, of course, ignores Intent, something explicitly mentioned by an outsider as the key behind morality in the OOTS world. (The Angel lass talking to Roy in the afterlife. Don't remember the strip number though)

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

Wow. V also forgot two things.

1) There's ALWAYS someone/something bigger than you. And

2) Power isn't everything. The three casters timesharing his body are all dead, so something got them.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

Mikaze,

Are you a comic book reader? Read the history of Terra and the Teen Titans Judas Contract sometimes. Moral Justification is an amazing (and sad) thing.

...

I wonder if V will release the spirits now.

Yeah, I didn't think so either. Although... V is a wizard.. how will he prepare these awesome spells tomorrow? (Other than the sorc soul ofcourse...)

If it were me... I'd take the time to start scribing scrolls and into my spell book.

I'm pretty sure there was at least one of those in the panels shown - some guy inside a magic circle with some candles around him.

I agree. Killing black dragons can be a good act, but here we see an example of it being an evil one.

Osirion (President, Jon Brazer Enterprises)

By the 12 gods! *jaw drops* THAT WAS EVIL!!!

It was evil, but funny, and basically a vendetta spell. And since V is rather coldly logical at the best of times, it's completely in character for him/her to do at his/her worst.

I do like that it got all the stupid half-dragons as well.

Osirion (RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32)

So have I got this right that V just nuked every single Black Dragon on their world!!!
Or maybe just any that shared Family ties with Mummy Dragon... which I suppose going way back could mean every Black Dragon, 'cause they all came from the same progenitor right.

People have been debating this since the comic came up, on the giant forums.

So people believe the it nuked every black dragon. Some seem to think it nuked not only the black dragons, but all other chromatics since they share the same progenitor. Fewer still believe it was only those closely related to her bloodline.

Personally the with the scope of the spell I think it was every black dragon, but we won't know till the next comic.

Think of the XP!!!!!

Fake Healer wrote:

No, in (i think...) 634 he touched base on that. Plus something about to earn XP it has to be a challenge for you.

Then again... could rule that no matter what you still gain at least 1xp... how many black dragons are there?

Wow. It looks like some sorta spell plague. Or something.

Ultimately, all dragons have a common ancestor, no? This spell could turn into a disaster of epic proportions!

Paizo Employee (Assistant Software Developer)

It occurs to me that the murder of all the black dragons (no fort save?) might actually be big enough to get XP, even under the fiends' pact (where it isn't impossible, but V's ECL is so high...)

It is a good point: How do you define family? If you include any degree of relation, it does rapidly mean 'species', especially for such a slow-breeding creature. (This does make Familicide a badly-named spell, though.)

What happens when this spell zaps Tiamat and that damned oracle?

On, the other hand, we don't know how many black dragons there are in the OotS world: It's still possible that even wiping out that extended family isn't wiping out the species, just a large fraction of it.

Interesting dragon sitings:
A clutch of eggs
A dragon using weapons (Maybe a half-dragon fighter) (A topic recently discussed here, I think, actually.)
A wyrmling chasing a rabbit
What I hope is a half-dragon centaur and not a half-dragon horse.
A dragon wizard (Maybe a half-dragon wizard/sorceror)

I'm assuming that "family" is meaning the same thing "family" does in human societies--a group of individuals related by blood and marriage, but generally not including extremely distant relatives you've never met.

The black dragon's family is everyone who would show up at the family reunions. However, it does not include friends, allies, business associates, and the not-yet-married. There are likely going to be a number of boyfriends, girlfriends, fiancees and wyrmling-daddies out there who are going to be quite put out by the death of this extended family. And if probably doesn't even extend to in-laws either, since we didn't see a centaur or human kicking over when the draco-centaur or half-dragon bit it.

V has just caused more problems than she's solved with that spell. Which is as it should be.

At Enworld people are actually discussing if what V did qualifies as EVIL.

Newsflash: V is Evil!

Well maybe it's because V didn't go the 'babies tied to the towershield' route.... *rolls eyes*

Do you have any visuals for that particular route?

On the EXP thing, there is always the 'trap' of only allowing a character to gain one level at a time. As all those kills would been in the same encounter it could easily fall under this little rule. :p Sorry V no *ding* *ding* *ding* for your.

nope, but it was something that popped up on the 'lawful stupid paladins' arguements. Something about tying a baby to your shield so the Paladin wouldn't try to hit you for fear of hitting the wee tyke.

Man, it gets even worse when you bring the cartoon fandom into it. The way I've heard it, it damn near started a civil war amongst them.

Yeah, except for the death threats, Wolfman and Perez thought it was kind of funny. They'd written Terra as a traitor from the start, kind of an anti-Kitty Pryde and yet people were so desperate to believe she was one of the good guys...

Though the entire 14-year-old-and-Deathstroke kissing creeped me out.

I've never understood why Deathstroke doesn't know Bruce Wayne is Batman though.

V has gotten evil in a big big way. Well we did need one, now that Belkar was convinced to act all compassionate and team-player.

But I feel that V is far more evil than Belkar ever was. Belkar would kill you without even thinking about it, but he would usually do it in a funny way.

V is nothing like funny. He is terrifying, even to his mate who prefers to keep their children quiet so as not to attract V's attention, even though they are probably suffering and traumatized.

BTW, the argument of V not being evil per se because he would be possessed by the 3 evil guys is off :

- evil actions while possessed do not stain your soul (though justifying them as your own just might)

- evil actions when tempted do. And V here obviously has free will, with the 3 dead guys just proposing new and exciting ways to spread evil (as illustrated by V's "I concur" before Creating Greater Undead).

BTW, it is unlikely that the spell kills the whole species, as its creator (the evil lass in V's head) probably used it a few times in her life and likely on humans (one of the most common do-gooders species) and they are still out there.

Belker is a small man, with small goals, and does small evil. He is very much a localized violence factory with no real ambition to do evil beyond his reach. At least he doesn't plan evil acts that impact large numbers of people, they just happen.

As for Familicide knocking out so much, it does become a question of how related dragons of a particular color are. Also, given how long dragons live it is not outside the possibility that the black dragon family tree hasn't forked enough to escape the spells effect (speculation).

I think I know how the lady who created that spell died.... Gotta use some divination to check those family lines before annihilating them ;-) .
