Okay this has probably been done to death but I figure two with one stone might make things a mite more interesting.

You have the chance for two new series whether animated, cgi, web series or even live action one based on the new 4e version from wizards and a paizo version based on Golarion.

It doesn't have to be a remake of the 80's series it could even be based on a future RPG superstar event where you get to offer potential ideas that could be included.

So you've got the standard adventurer team, say four to six maximum and have to decide race, class and background.

For 4e lets for example say we have a human cleric who is the senior member, a pair of siblings one a human bard the other a half elf sorceress and the last a half elf paladin youngest son of the bard with the opening episode dealing with them on an important mission but they are betrayed and the bard is killed leaving them trying to survive long enough to discover whats really going on and stop the bad guys from getting away with their betrayal.

Anyway what I wanted to ask is what would you do if you were given this chance.

Would you rather have a web series ala sanctuary or a new cartoon series even a remake of the 80's series?

I think the most important question is,

Spoiler:
Would Uni still be in it?

I'd enjoy seeing the continuation of the 80's series myself.

I wouldn't mind a continuation of the 80s cartoon ... but with more of a "D&D-esque" feel? I think an Eberron CGI movie would be very nice, or perhaps a Golarion anime series (or series of mini-series based on the APs) ...

Given the past history of the cartoon and movies attempted with the D+D franchise, all of the above choices leave me more than slightly underwhelmed.

And yes, this question has been done to undeath.

As much as I enjoyed the 80's cartoon as a kid,
and I do enjoy it still, I would like to see them
do a more "mature" version of a dnd cartoon/anime
or just something not for kids. Nothing ruins it for
me more then seeing a ranger with a lightning bow
"tie up monsters" with his energy arrows, or characters
in general using their "weapons" to do nonlethal things.
It was bad enough in gijoe that no one could aim with any
accuracy unless they shot at BATs... :)
If they did do something worthwhile for dnd, hopefully they'll
stay away from the more obvious cliches like the "standard"
party stuff. For some reason that kind of approach always
makes me roll my eyes a little.

A bit off-topic BUT:

WoTC should do a miniature set featuring the 6 iconics from the cartoon. That would SELL!

I agree, the basic party setup in the second DnD movie was cause for all sorts of laughter, especially when they didn't use names, and actually called each other by their classes;"Hey Rogue!" "What is it, Barbarian?" Gag me.

Maybe they could do a write up of the basic roles, but use unconventional classes to do so. Maybe in a setting where arcane magic is common, and have the main characters be a Duskblade(combining the fighter guy and wizard guy), a Beguiler(rogue), and a Favored Soul of Boccob...

Despite the painful stuff (Uni!), I'd consider one of the biggest 'issues' I had with the cartoon in the day was that it was filled up with crap classes that had just in thrown out in the (relatively new, at the time) Unearthed Arcana, like the Barbarian, Cavalier and Acrobat.

If a 3.5/Pathfinder cartoon were to ever come out, I'd prefer if the core classes got play, so that anyone attracted to the game by this not sit down at the table and find out that *nobody* plays an Acrobat, and everyone is playing 'wierd stuff they've never heard of' like Clerics and Druids and Fighters.

Ditto for a 4E based cartoon (and, IMO, 4e is probably a lot more cartoon-friendly, with visually exotic tieflings and dragonborn, and lots of classes that have basic 'pew pew' attacks and 'finishing move' type big dramatic attacks via their daily and encounter powers).

Whichever, stick to the races and classes in the core books, for the main characters, and introduce the fancy stuff bit by bit, to stretch out the reveal of a larger and more versatile set of play options.

I'd feel the same sense of 'WTH?' if a Pathfinder cartoon came out and the main characters included an Inquisitor, Oracle and Witch, and there wasn't a Fighter, Cleric or Wizard in sight.

On the other hand, if there was to be a Pathfinder cartoon, it would be absolutely appropriate to use the new Pathfinder-specific classes, and help show that this isn't just the 'unofficial D&D 3.75' cartoon, but the Pathfinder RPG cartoon...

So never mind, I just talked myself out of it!
