I am not ashamed to admit I started crying when I saw this trailer last night. When I was a kid, I carried this book around everywhere. Whenever I got mad I'd threaten to run away to the Island, and my mom would always say, "You'll come back--they don't have real cookies there."
I even had a Max costume for my 6th Hallowe'en.
This movie better be good. I can't wait.

In the second grade, I chose it for my "take home" book. I read it and loved the monsters. In the middle of the night, I woke up yelling in fright from a nightmare. Heh-heh, my mom blamed the book and boy dad was pissed! But I always loved that book.
Ok, I watched the trailer. I might have been too hasty. I guess I'll have to give it a chance (and, heck, it's an excuse to take my nephews to the movies...).

Makes me want to join in a Wild Rumpus. HD's t-shirt suggestion says it all...
Anybody know anything about Sendak's influences? Thinking back on the story, it reminds me of the Grimms' Iron John (Hans) story.
EDIT: HD, that's exactly what I do! (As an excuse.) Unfortunately, I had to go see Coraline by myself.

Maurice Sendak + Awesome looking monsters + good Arcade Fire song in trailer = James is excited to see this movie.

I have to be completely honest here. I cried as well. I remember my mom reading this to me and even though I never wanted the costume, it was my favorite childhood book.
I don't know whether I will like the movie but that trailer is great for making me want to see it.
And yes, it brought a tear to the eye.
Though I'm a big sentimentalist. I also cried when I was in the theatre and saw Peter Jackson bring the Shire to life. After that the rest of the LotR films were just gravy.

Isn't that an oxymoron?
*ducks*
Why must you dump on everything I enjoy?

There were a lot of tears in the theatre that day; my wife actually dug in her purse and gave me tissue (luckily, I'm one of those silent weepers.) One of my favorite scenes in the whole trilogy is from The Two Towers; Sam's speech on why we like stories. My awesome wife knows me to a T; she had the tissue ready just as the tears fell :-)
Spoiler:
I'm 6'2", 200 pounds, 12% body fat, and I look pretty damn mean and angry; but I cry all the frakin’ time at movies, books, music (Claire de Lune sobs me up everytime), good stories--I'm a sentimentalist to the bone.
Don't tell my girlfriend, though, she's the jealous type...
;)

Because I love you?

Ours is a bromance that dare not speak its name.

Hilarious. We're all just a bunch of big, mean-looking softies. (I made a male student cry in my class without even trying to this week.)
Keegan, did you portmanteau-ize "bromance," or have I just not heard it before? Great word.
James Keegan(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber)
I just think you haven't heard it before. It came into the lexicon after several of the yearly Judd Apatow comedies involving close male friends. Bromance- you love your male friend and spend a lot of time with them, but you're still into girls for, you know, the stuff down there.

Claire de Lune gets me too man. And I got a bit teary eyed from The Fellowship of the Ring. I think I uttered "He did it, he really did it!" about a dozen times through the first film.
This movie [Where the Wild Things Are] looks brilliant, and I've some hope for it seeing as Spike Jonze is directing it.
Well the movie came (and I think went)...So what did everyone think since we all are big crying softies it seems.
I thought it was really good. It was odd that it had no villian, and really not even much of a plot. It was just like watching 9 years old play for 2 hours.
It was weird but I liked it.

I never was into "being in" or "taking part with" a gang. I still liked the book back when I was a kid. I guess I'll have to catch this one on video.
