Also, I've heard there is/was an animated Conan movie being worked on based on the REH story Red Nails. I think Ron Perlman was involved as the voice of Conan. Anyone know the status on this?
I'd rather see Triple H in the role of Conan... Cena is just annoying.. I'm looking forward to seeing any of this come to light, as I am a Huge REH fan.. have read all the books and many of the others out by other authors as well.. here's hoping they do justice to a great series of books, by a master storyteller...
I don't see why a remake is necessary. I loved Conan and the Flower Children of Set...
I agree. How Conan became who he is, is less important than the deeds he does. What do you need to know about his past? He's a barbarian from a group of people called Cimmerians, Done! Now let's kill some unnatural beasts and wizards and do some wenching, maybe toss in a huge battle where Conan is the only one of his "side" to survive (being a mercenary in it most likely).
I can deal with an origin film IF it holds to REH's stories. Conan the Barbarian is a good movie, but really isn't Conan outside of the title. There are just too many things wrong with it that could have been easily fixed, but what do you expect from Oliver Stone. A brown haired Cimmerian who Prays(?) to Crom and goes to Valhala when he dies?!?!? ... goes of fuming and ranting to himself.

Come along though, it's not like the Arnie Conan is a God-botherer or anything, he prays ... what? Once, in the movie? And that's a damn good bit too, he demands revenge, and damns Crom if he doesn't grant that revenge. Not exactly Arch-Bish of Canterbury is it.
Personally, I think any modern movie is doomed. It won't be true to Howard, and I doubt it'll be as good as the classic Arnie movie version either.
As to the sneery posts upthread about Scarlett Johanson playing a 'amazon' ... err can I be first to drool in anticipation. Seriously guys, you may want 'truer' amazons who are all muscle, hairy armpits, stubble, and gruff voices ... I'll stick with the fantasy standard of (implausibly) beautiful and shapely amazons any day of the week. Especially in a Conan movie.
As I say I expect the movie will suck badly, but at least we may get to see the gorgeous Scarlett in skimpy armour. ;-)
I really can't say that the poster makes me want to see the movie. To me a movie poster, even a teaser one, should draw you in, tell you a story, and make you want more. This really didn't do that for me. For me a better poster would have been the silhouette of a man with a sword over head, ready to plunge it into some beast or enemy that is hidden from our view. That would get me interested because I would want to know what exactly was going on in the scene.
