Just wondering if anyone has read these books and if they are any good. Curiosity has gotten the better of me, and I'm wondering if the author played the title characters "straight" through the whole thing and if he pulled it off or not.

Thanks all.

I just noticed the book in the bookstore yesterday. I'm intrigued as well. Even if I can't locate any good buzz about it I may pick it up after the Christmas shopping is done.

I wasn´t aware that they were translated. The books were big successes here, and many people love them. I haven´t read them yet, but from what I hear, they seem to be quite good. There is even a TV film in the make. I´d hazard a guess that they are worth the while.

Have the first one, thought I likely won't get to it until the new year. Wasn't aware that the second was out yet.

I read these books in french, it was a good story. I just don't how many original books I read, because I suspect the original version (German) got cut in two or I can be wrong.

Wow! I see that I read to much fantasy series rather an one book fantasy story.

It's a fun read- plus they now have come out with the second book: War of the Dwarves.

Sorry to say this but I did not care for it. Granted I only got about half way through it before I set it down, but it just did not keep my attention. I reminded me a little of Orcs by Stan Nichols. Another book I was really excited about, and one I did finish, and it started out strong with a great intro scene and the fleshing out of these intelligent yet ruthless Orcs, seeing things through their eyes, and then they just turn into a bunch of ho hum characters that in no way continue to remind you that they are Orcs through out the second half of the book. It was like they became to civilized. Just my two coppers.

And that does remind me, the Nichol's Orcs is currently on the third sequel book. ;)
