A lot of us read in bed, so I'm curious to find out what books you have sitting next to you. This is slightly different from the "What books are you currently reading" as you may not be currently reading all of them.
Here's what I got:
Dictionary of Psychic Sciences
The Ultimate Cookbook The Book of Artifacts Lovecraft (I had to set it down for a few after "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward." O.o )
Learning Java
Adobe InDesign CS 2 user manual
A couple of PC Gamer and Games for Windows magazines
Horus Heresy (Warhammer 40K) - Finished, still sitting on the nightstand. I am sure it was just me but I found this book to be creepy. The second book is still upstairs on the shelf.
The Golden Compass Trilogy - The vernacular in the beginning was hard to understand. By the time I was halfway through I was reading it just fine. First book finished and given to son, second about 1/3 through with it.
Softcover PHB - from the Basic Game kit. I have not played in decades and just started some PbP to get a feel for the game again.
Altered Carbon - Very good sci-fi hardcore detective book. Like Dick Tracey in the year 2500 on their version of crack.
Latest issue of PSYCHOLOGY TODAY, quasi-intellectual, light, and fun
Collections of short stories, currently Stephen King's FOUR PAST MIDNIGHT
Michael Erard's UM: SLIPS, STUMBLES, AND VERBAL BLUNDERS AND WHAT THEY MEAN
Zadie Smith's ON BEAUTY, a gift that has lain bedside over a year, the title precluding interest
Vattnisse(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber)
Michael Barkun's A culture of conspiracy: Apocalyptic visions in contemporary America
Samuel Decalo's Coups and army rule in Africa
Ashutosh Varsney's Ethnic conflict and civic life: Hindus and muslims in India
and
Dragons of Eberron
Listed order of about when I'll finish them:
Reading for graduate seminar (Coordinated stasis: An overview by Brett et al.)
Tim Flannery's Future Eaters
Heap of printed out Journal of Paleobiology articles
Latest issue of Journal of Mammalogy
Tolstoy's War and Peace
Hmm, that's a more revealing question than just 'What are you reading?'
I've currently got:
Arabian Night's Entertainments - one every week for the last couple of years
Rifts Ultimate Edition - yikes, yes I did buy it
Little, Big - faery tale
Homeowner Millionaire - buying a house soon
Downer comic collection - great fun and humour
Right now, I've got Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver with me wherever I go, including my bedside at night (so that still counts, right?), because I've decided that it's time for my yearly reading of the Baroque Cycle.
Nerak the Numb(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales Subscriber)
(Not usually this many, but I've been laid up for the last 4 days)
- Oil! by Upton Sinclair
- Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
- Complete Adventurer
- DMG
- The most recent Sports Illustrated
- Dungeon #140
Right now, I've got Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver with me wherever I go, including my bedside at night (so that still counts, right?), because I've decided that it's time for my yearly reading of the Baroque Cycle.
I've got about 12 or 13 books stacked on my bedside table, let's see if i can remember what they all are:
Advanced Beastiary
Advanced Players Guide
Advanced GameMasters Guide
Freeport Trilogy
Rise of the Runelords #1
Excaliber (gaming book)
No Country for Old Men
The Flayed God (Mesoamerican myths)]
Diablo II Guide Book
There are in fact about four more (maybe five books) on the table, but I'll be damned if I can remember what they are. That being said, some have been read (but not shelved). Others are waiting to be read. I'm currently reading the Advanced Beastiary for pre-sleep material. I have too many books and a ridiculously small apartment, so piles of books appear nearly everywhere. Ahhh the joys of working at a used bookstore (which reminds me, I should get back to work).
damnitall22(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Companion Subscriber)
The Lucifer Principle: A Scientific Expedition Into the Forces of History By Howard Bloom
Pathfinder #4
Jack The Bodiless By Julian May

Man it seems I am the ultimate thread killer... *sigh* well back to KoL I guess....
Don Quixote
Stephen King's On Writing Pathfinder #4 and #6
George R.R. Martin's A Feast for Crows
SterlingEdge(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Modules, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)
Lost Souls! - Poppy Z Brite
Honestly, I've read this book over 20 times.
"Rice, Stephen King, and Dean Koonts are kringing wusses next to Poppy Z. Brite, whose perverse and scathingly intelligent novels have made the writer one of the stars of her generation"
-New york Native
--------------------------------------------
Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology - Leslie Shepard
"Dune: The Machine Crusade"-next book to read
"Seville Communion" by Perez-Reverte-just finished
"Nomads of the Time Stream" by Moorcock-just finished
Living Greyhawk Gazeteer
old Dragon Magazine-don't know the issue number because the cover is gone, but it has just 'bout my favorite Wormy (3 goblins fight 2 hobgoblins on Wormy's table)
"Fabric of the Cosmos" & "Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene-re-reading parts of them.
Many of these I never finish, so this is an interesting and fun topic.
Let's see:
Draconomicon The Eighth Habit, by Stephen Covey
Morality Play, by Barry Unsworth*
Iron Your Own Damn Shirt!
I had more, but I cleaned them all up about 9 months ago.
*As of last week, this is no longer there. But since I had it there for 10 years, I think it moderately illuminating of my habits. The story is that my Dad and Mom gave it to me for a present shortly after my daughter was born. I kept running out of time to get to it. I got to it. Much later.
"The Fabric of the Cosmos" - Brian Greene
"The Antarktos Cycle" - Chaosium
"King Rat" - China Mieville
"Blasphemy" - Douglas Preston
"Lost Christianities" - Bart Ehrman
"Bloodline" - F. Paul Wilson
'Is This Apocalypse Neccessary?' by C. Dale Brittain
'The Sinful Stars' a Fading Suns anthology
'The Essential Bordertown' another anthology
and 46 other books- on my side of the headboard bookshelf (between my wife and I, shelf space is at a premium!)
I got too close to the 'Bordertown', now I'll have to re-read it. (no save allowed)
At my chair: Sword & Sorcery's 'Ravenloft'- because someone started a PBP game and made me think of it again. Of course, reading a setting book inspires a character concept, so there's other 3.5 books as well.
