Doors and windows opening and closing around him. I'm assuming he has open/close as a cantrip and is still learning control of his powers, as Annie is being roleplayed in much the same manner. :)

Oh...yes. It's very similar, but I'll let him explain it when he's ready. Expect that sort of thing to happen a lot around him(especially while he's making a Stealth roll).

(Male Human Bard L3 (Seasinger))

"Effects? What effects?" Looks innocent.

A tiny rain cloud forms over his head and and drizzles a few tiny raindrops until Jon grabs his hat and breaks it up with some wild swings.

Nice!

Is there an alternative to Invisible Castle for die rolling? They've been down for a couple hours now.
I'm tryin' t' make me swimmin' checks now!

DMTools

Submitted for the approval of the group:

Combat from now on will be in fluid initiative order. I will make the necessary rolls to determine whether enemies act first or second, but all players act in the order they post, that way we don't need to handle several rounds' worth of actions at once with some players three rounds ahead while others are two rounds behind.

In general, it's fine to post two or three rounds' worth of attack rolls or actions if you don't think you'll be able to post for a day or two, but everyone seems to be able to get at least one post in before the round is over.

I realize those with high initiative modifiers or feats like Improved Initiative may not want their place in each round determined by posting speed, so I wanted to give everyone a chance to air their grievances with this change now.

If everyone is amenable, init will now be fluid. You act when you post and the enemy or enemies acts either before you or after you each round. This will allow more dramatic posts during combat without sacrificing combat rounds altogether, and will hopefully speed things up.

Do we have an accord?

Let's try 'er and see how she sails.

Hm... Well, if we're not paying attention to initiative, I would suggest that those who took feats or traits to boost their initiative be allowed to choose new ones (and triats that reference initiative should get some other bonus - like to perception to see things sooner (and maybe get a chance to react sooner than other characters) or a small bonus to hit to take advantage of their quicker reflexes.

The biggest problem I see is this hurts Sneaky. He's already got some difficulty because he's playing in a non-native langauge (excellently, may I say!), and he's going to be in a radically different time zone from the rest of us. His character's damage depends pretty heavily on intitiative, especially to gain sneak attack damage at range or from unflanked enemies, this could be quite a concern.

I tried to post 2-3 rounds of actions (with caveats to try to take into account enemy and ally actions) to allow you the freedom to post round summaries as needed whether I was on the forums or not. Was this helpful? Was this something the other players found useful...or confusing?

Another option: Even though pathfinder, like 3.5, is easiest with squares and battle maps, maybe a less well defined battle map is in order - like 1st or 2nd edition play? Basic ideas of where people stand and general accounts of our plans may be easier to manage all around. It will make things like flanking, attacks of opportunity and threatened areas a little fluid and arbitrary, but it might speed things up for everyone.

Ideas? Comments?

I agree about substituting feats. For Sneaky, he would still get the benefits of going before an enemy as long as the enemy doesn't win initiative, but they would only be flat-footed in the first/surprise rounds anyway.

Posting multiple rounds' worth of action was very helpful...I just felt bad because it left you and the few others that did it with nothing to post for much longer than everyone else.

I'll wait and see what everyone else says, but I for one wouldn't like to lost the battlemaps altogether, as the looser rules could very quickly turn against the party or make combat a nightmare. I think we can reach a middle ground. It's just as easy for me to move someone to a specific square as it was for me to choose a path for someone who says(avoiding AoO if possible or rolling an acrobatics check to avoid). I think the map serves well as a guide to combat and making initiative more fluid could help it better serve that function, since everyone knows immediately what everyone else has done right before them.

As for the timezone thing, I certainly wouldn't penalize Sneaky for not being able to post when everyone else does. I want him to be able to use his abilities in combat and hopefully loosening up on init will help him do that.

With all the points Annie brought up addressed, I'd be fine with trying the fluid initiative.

I prefer the standard initiative, but I'm willing to at least give the initiative by post a try.

I feel I should point out that fluid initiative would favor the party more than any opponents, since the enemy would have to beat ALL of your initiative rolls in order to go before you. There may be times when this happens, but the group will come out ahead more often than not. Just in case anyone is on the fence.

Of course, but that's a round in which he can use ranged sneak attacks or attacks that don't worry about stealth. But as long as he's not losing those crucial opportunities, I'm fine with whatever works best. I have DMed quite a bit myself and know it's a bit of work. Anything that makes it work better for you is worth trying!

Oh, don't worry about that. I kept an eye on things and enjoyed watching the action unfold. I tried to just give you Annie's goals and abilities she would be willing to use to meet those goals, and called it good.

What are the odds that both Invisible Castle AND DM Tools are down at the same time?

On anothewr note is there a way to get MYTH-WEAVERS TO E-MAIL MY PASSWORD? i SEEM TO BE UNABLE TO GET TO MY SHEEET.

I believe there is, but other players I've known have had to start new accounts. If I have full rights to the sheet and can still access it myself, I believe there's a way to transfer ownership...it may be something only the true owner can do though. The alernative is exporting the whole sheet for you so you could download and import it.

Here's the direct link to your sheet. It's publicly viewable, so you can look at it at least. I've also downloaded it and uploaded it to epicwords for you here.

Thanks! on epicwords I'm getting this:
The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

but at least viewing it I can recreate if need be.

I seem to be able to open the xml file with firefox, and once it's open, it's easy enough to save a copy as an xml file and upload it later. If necessary, I could rename it to something a browser wouldn't try to open.

WF Gardner, it looks, to me, like you made two rolls to see if I was grappled. The rules say only the one roll comparing CM to CMD is required. If I'm wrong please disregard this post.

The first roll was an actual attack roll, although its only effect is to grant or deny a grapple attempt(the second roll). The remaining rolls were for the free attack that a successful grapple grants and the damage. Having run them under 3.5, there are usually more rolls(and would have been anyway with a full attack, where they get multiattack and two attempts to hit with pedipalps, plus one attempt to bite, one grapple attempt per pedipalp hit, plus one free bite attempt if the grapple succeeds).

The problem is the way I wrote it up, using the word touch instead of hit, even though it was an actual attack, albeit one without damage, rather than a touch attack(as the old grapple rules would have used). Easy misunderstanding.

Well, you got lucky on a lot of the pirate rolls. The rhagodessa is one mean SOB.

(Male Human Bard L3 (Seasinger))

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Groundskeeper Willie tore off his shirt and shouted; "GREASE ME UP WOMAN!" in the school kitchen.

Ok finally created new profile,
Profile name is Ghirrak and you are listed as an editor.

(Female Human Cleric 5)

Yaaay! Welcome back! :D

(Female Human Cleric 5)

I've been thinking about when I pray for new spells / renewed channel energy. As Cayden Cailean is the god of beer, I assume that clerics often indulge - and may be a little out of sorts in morning, on a pretty regular basis.

Therefor I thought it would make the most sense to pray for spells before the evening revelries begin. It's up to you whether Annie prayed for spells just before the battle and thus is out until tomorrow evening, or she can refresh them with an hour of prayer after meeting with Lavinia. If you'd rather Annie stuck with the usual dawn hour of praying for spell refeshing, that's fine too, for ease of play.

:)

I can definitely see Cayden's clerics getting up at the crack of noon.

(Human Wizard 4 / Rogue 2)

I'll be away from home from Sunday to Tuesday, and not sure if I'll have net access.

Taldor (Female Human Level 4 Bard)

Warforged? You there? :)

(Male Human Bard L3 (Seasinger))

Pokes at GM with 11 foot pole.

Sorry, guys. Going through some issues at home that are cutting into my computer time and peace of mind. I should be able to post more regularly soon and the next leg of the adventure will start tomorrow.

I'm definitely okay with making "happy hour" Annie's time for getting new spells.

(Male Dwarf Shielded Fighter 5)

I'll be away again this Sun-Tue.

Warforged Gardener:

Spoiler:
Hey, the guys at Epic Words are looking for you to post, even if it's to say good-bye.

Hey, Warforged! We miss having a construct that knows how to care for plants over in the Epic Words campaign! Get over there and post something, darn it!

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16)

Hey all, so I'm moving today, and after talking to the new cable company odds are my internet access will be spotty at best until next Saturday, the 7th.

GM please DMPC if any key actions combats etc occur.

See you guys soon.

Will do. I haven't had time to post the next round, but combat will be winding down. Part of the reason I've been stalling is because the next post will require setting up the next challenge. For any skill checks that happen, I'll assume Ghirrak will try to take 10 or 20 when possible and DMPC the rest until you're back.

(Female Human Cleric 5)

I'm having a lot of fun in this game! I hope it doesn't wind down!

It won't, I've just been really sick for the past few days with a nasty stomach flu. I should be up to posting in the morning, fingers crossed.

(Male Human Rogue 1)

Good to hear that mate ^^

I'm back

Slight delay, should be able to manage to move forward soon. I'm feeling better but my wife was home sick today with the same thing. As soon as the slack loosens around the house I can pick up the slack elsewhere.

Don't forget to update our XP on Epic Words.

BTW did we get paid?

Dax Thura wrote:

I'll work on getting that up there tonight. Lavinia was able to pay you out of what was still in the vault.

....

Warforged Gardener, where are you?
