There aren't many elves native to Diamond Lake - most of the few elves who live here are associated with the elven mine manager Ellival Moonmeadow, members of his entourage or household.
Alternatively, a cleric or paladin may be a member of one of the local churches or cults (there is a church of St Cuthbert in town that leans further towards LN than LG but a paladin is not out of the question; a chapel dedicated to Heironeous at the nearby fort; a cult venerating a prophet of Wee Jas based across the lake; and a shrine to Obad Hai out in the hinterlands).
The trick is how to bring such a character together with the rest of the group...
Moth, working on my character at the moment. Thinking of playing an elf, probably a cleric or paladin. Mythalas Meliamne is the working title at the moment, but I haven't had a chance to run through stats or background yet.
Cool, either cleric or paladin would probably be a good choice for this campaign.

Okay, let me work on the concept and then we can refine it.
Looks good at a glance dude, I've got some ideas on what your guy could be doing in the area that might link him in with the party, I'll elucidate when I have more time (sh*t day at work today, still going).
Couple of things:
Spoiler:
Can you let me know how many ranks have been assigned to skills, I can probably work it out, but too lazy. Also, ability scores look on the high side, no real issues but can you let me know, did you roll or point buy? Which method for either? No dramas either way, just so I know. Can't remember what I asked the other guys to do, need to check.

No worries, I will add ranks to my skills.
As for stats, I attempted to use Invisible Castle but couldn't link it or my Internet was being retarded again.
Sooo, long story short, partly rolled by that website and partly by hand. Wasn't the method 4d6 drop the lowest?
Level 2 it is. What did you use for starting cash?
I rolled 200gp, I think. I am pretty sure, but my mathematics is crap and there is way to much gp this, sp into cp that... Anyway, long story short, I will probably have to check my adding and subtracting again. I am totally maths retarded.

Yep, no worries. No need to link rolls, I couldn't remember whether we did point buy or roll for this game (probably I let players do either). 4d6 drop the lowest is cool.

Don't worry about it, equipment looks about right. I'll probably give you either a bonus item or two or another few hundred gp to spend to bring you more in line equipment-wise with the other guys.
Ah, I like wasting whole days of work doing frivolous things... Not sure the parents of my students would be too happy to hear that though... May be I shouldn't say too much on a public forum either?!
"Have you seen my starting equipment? All I have is a broken sword!"
Mythalas has been wandering the lands, fighting evil and righting wrongs as paladins are wont to do. Coming across Diamond Lake, he decides to stay a while, saddened that a once so beautiful place has been reduced to this muddy cess-pool of humanity, and sure that there will be injustice to fight in this den of vice and inequality. However, before he can go too far into tangling with the town’s crimelords, corrupt lawmen and petty gangsters (and probably find himself dead in a ditch for his troubles), he hears a rumour of strange zombies seen wandering the hinterlands, and a rash of disappearances amongst travellers between Diamond Lake and Greyhawk.
Doing a bit of diligent investigation, he finds few solid leads, mainly just rumours, but he does come across something that may be connected … here and there at outlying areas around the town are recently exhumed graves. Could this be connected with the tales of undead roaming the hills? Or simple grave-robbing. Either way, something that any self respecting paladin would be keen to examine further.
Investigation of this phenomena is likely to put him in the path of our intrepid adventurers, who are about to do a little grave-digging themselves.
Hi Saorti. You know, I was about a day away from posting to advertise for a new player to the game when Chubbs mentioned in another forum that he’d like to find out how to join a pbp game, so I invited him to join this one to replace a player that we lost a while back.
Having said that, I’m as happy to run a game for six as for five; I wouldn’t object to having another player, and so long as you think you’ll enjoy the game and can commit to a reasonably regular posting schedule (say once every day or two at least) then I’m happy to offer a space to you – on the assumption that its ok with the other players.
Guys, what do you think, any objections to six players?
Alternatively, if that’s an issue for anyone, I will offer you a reserve spot, in case Chubbs doesn’t end up going ahead with joining, or if one of the others needs to drop out at some point.
Saorti, are you familiar with the campaign and/or the setting? Do you have any character concepts in mind, or any thoughts on how to introduce a new character to the group?
Welcome aboard Chubbs.
Mothman, I'm neutral on the 5 or 6 player thing. More important, I think, is the commitment to post on a regular basis.
On that note, I may not be able to post this upcoming Friday - Monday. My girlfriend's off to Africa on Tuesday for a month, so last chance for some alone time before she leaves.
I'm around MM, not going anywhere. I'm considering retiring Da'gret and bringing in a more sociable character though. I dumped both Int and Cha on this character which was a first for me and I haven't really been able to decide what to do with him as a result. I'll figure this out when I get home today. Sorry for the lack of posts.

Its cool mate. I like Da'gret, but he's certainly a big departure from the other characters I have seen you play - and I've noticed him suggesting things above his intelligence from time to time ;-)
If you want to bring in another character, that's cool, let me know.
I'm still super busy, I've been trying to write an update since last Thursday, havent quite found the time to do it justice yet.
Rogue and dwarven miner (in combination or not) are both good ideas. LEt me know when you get back from your holiday, I'll NPC Da'gret in the meantime of you like.
Thanks for your patience on my lack of posting the last week and a half guys, it has been crazy at work.
Where are your crew up to Snorter? (Sans spoilers)
The journal's a bit behind, as the player's had a lot of real-life hassle, but I've been mailed several months of notes to check for accuracy, before he catches up.
Just finished Chapter 3, complete with 'that' finale (the one with the hilariously appropriate illustration). ROFL
Only one death, three weeks ago, and that was to an NPC I had re-jigged, because the adventure didn't seem tough enough. Whoops. The player was OK about it, though, and has been standing in as a cohort, her PC's body strapped to a celestial warhorse, roaming Celestia, till they can get to Greysmere, and call in a favour they earned from Chapter 2.
Chubbs, given that the rest of the group has picked up a bit of loot in the dungeon, Mythalas may start with an additional 200gp to even things out a little. Feel free to spend it, and/or re-jig your equipment list a bit if you like.
Also, I gave each of the other characters a bonus feat at character creation, something to reflect their history or personality, and Mythalas is no exception.
Spoiler:
His training in the navy, the hard years at sea learning the ropes has given Mythalas a physical strength that few Gray Elves can match, and skills that most paladins would not learn. He gains the Athletic feat (+2 bonus to Climb and Swim skill checks) for free.
Moth- I more or less have another character ready to go, but for now I think I'll just let Da'gret behave as recklessly as he should. When he bites it, I am ready to go with another.
btw- I am only back in town this evening. Tomorrow we leave for the US.
Wow, this thread fell into the archives due to recent disuse!
Anyway, here it is again on the main boards...
Just a heads up... I'll be unable to post from Sept. 3 - 19 or so -- will first be backpacking here in the Rockies, and then along the west coast of Vancouver Island. I might have a very brief window where I can post between Sept. 7-8, but we'll see...

Well Ithuriel. What now? Da'gret almost had it there, but managed to cling tenaciously to life. Where do you want to go from here as far as introducing a new character? IT may be simplest to have the group meet your intended new character in town (even if you don't wish him to join the group at this point).
I've been so short of sleep recently that all the pbps are getting little love. It's my day off and even though I had to get up early to go to the embassy I bet I sleep at least 10 hours asap. Then I will hopefully be recharged and feeling human again.
Just a heads up - I'll be heading down the coast with the family next week so will have a limited (at best) chance to post. Mothman, please act on Laithe's behalf to keep the game moving.

Hey mate, so what's the plan? Are you still into this game? Are we going to get something from Da'gret, or do you want him to bow out and introduce your dwarf character? If the latter, we should chat about how to fit him in.
Ok- let's start fresh. I got so far behind here that I didn't know how/where to step back in and just let that snowball out of inertia.
Spoiler:
So Harrigan Drange is an opportunist. I'm going to try to finish him up right now as he needs some last touches. He has served as a soldier through several campaigns though his primary involvement was to travel with the army gambling along the way, slipping away the night before the battle and then looting the dead the next day. It was an easy and enjoyable life for him- he enjoyed the camaraderie, the stories of adventure, and life on the road- when the weather was pleasant. He never considered himself cowardly, just practical. This pattern changed when he was rifling the pockets of a low ranking officer who turned out to not be quite dead when other soldiers happened by. Adapting quickly Harrigan re imagined the scenario so that he was "saving" the officer and managed to get him back to the medics. With backing of this officer he managed to run for city alderman in Greyhawk representing a poor district and used his position to rake in kick backs while doing as little as possible. Within two years his schemes came to light and he was forced to flee the city with members of various unsavory factions looking to recoup their bribes or in some cases kill him for his audacity. So it was that he came to Diamond Lake and reinvented himself as an apprentice locksmith plying his father's long forgotten trade while privately taking stock of the town's assets for the day when he is ready to move on.
I'm not really going for evil here as it may come off from what I wrote there. More like someone who just doesn't consider the consequences of his actions for others. Maybe CN for alignment.
Sounds good so far. Now, we need a way to get him to meet the party – and more importantly a believable reason for the party to be willing to let him tag along … any ideas?
I’ve got the kernels of some ideas that might work. One is to have him be doing some work for one of the town’s mine managers, who’s schemes against each other might soon involve the group. The two obvious mine managers are Balabar Smenk and Ragnolian Dourstone.
In the last decade or so, Smenk has gone from a nobody (a petty criminal from Greyhawk some say) to one of the richest and most powerful mine managers (or people) in Diamond Lake, thanks largely to his keen business sense and almost complete lack of ethics. He runs a number of mines and (it is rumoured) a good portion of Diamond Lake’s underworld. He has ties to the half-orc Kullen’s gang.
Dourstone, one of the few dwarven residents of Diamond Lake, has a reputation of being one of the more respectable mine managers (though probably none of the town’s mine managers are able to keep their hands entirely clean). Although he’s not the most wealthy, it’s whispered (amongst those who keep their ears really, really close to the ground) that he’s found some new source of income or struck a vein of something more precious than iron in his mine, because he seems to be subtly flushed with extra cash lately.
Can you see Harrigan working for either of these two?
Alternatively, he could have found himself somehow tangled up in Kullen’s business, and meet the PCs that way.
Da’gret is a loose end. Does he want to come and say goodbye, or will he just mysteriously not turn up at the meeting place?
I had imagined that Da'gret was stationed in his swampy barren by the Bronzewood lodge not just for his lack of social skills, but for some purpose. (Harvesting compost, keeping an eye on a faerie ring, cultivating hallucinogenic mushrooms used in their vision quests... whatever you like.) Once they realized he wasn't there taking care of business, they cracked the whip. Sent animal messengers to track him down and call him out. He is there now begrudgingly back at his post.
For Harrigan I don't have a great idea on how to integrate him yet. I've been trying to come up with something, but nothing particularly good has come to me. If they end up looking for someone to round oout the reduced party, a mechanic/locksmith who might be able to handle doors and traps would be a good bet and perhaps Brashen knows one from past work. Or maybe Harrigan did some work for the Emerald Lady's shrine.
Of those ideas you mentioned I like Dourstone the best. I was thinking that Harrigan ended up in Diamond Lake because he knew someone there- a distant relative or clan member, an old contact from his City of Greyhawk political days, a war buddy... Someone who would vouch for him as he set about trying to lie low and create a new identity. This person will of course know who he really is, why he is hiding out, and from whom.
This game seems to have lost alot of steam in the last few months. Neither Ithuriel nor Chubbs have posted in ages, and the game itself seems to have slowed to a crawl... Just wondering if it's worth pushing ahead, or if we're going to pull the plug... I've really enjoyed this game -- great descriptions by Mothman (as always), great setting, and great players/PCs... but... ??? It looks like everyone's busy with other things these days... I'm happy to keep playing if Boland/Brashen/Mothman are still in, but if folks feel this game has run its course, that's fine too...

Yep, it had definitely slowed down. I think the lull has been a good part from people being unable to post regularly (myself guilty!) and that we have hit a slow spot in the game (i.e. we're trying to heal up. etc). I'd be keen to continue and should get more opportunity to post now. However, if the general consensus is to pull the plug, then I'm cool with that too.
Yeah, Ive been fairly busy to and havnt been posting as much as I should be, but am enjoying the game and would be happy to keep going if others are. I agree that its slowed down alot though, so cetainly have to make an effort to post more often if we continue
I guess we're all in the same boat, then, and maybe we'll resume our pace after the New Year. I've been working 12+ hour days as well, well into the night and sometimes on weekends as well, so I sympathize with the Mothster (who seems to be drowning) and everyone else.
I just wanted to make sure that the key players were still interested...

Cool; hope the work slows down for you soon Twiceborn. Have a great Christmas and New Years all!
Wishing safe and happy holidays to all. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to check in between now and January 3rd... so if the game starts rolling again, don't let me hold things up!
