You said there was an issue with Track and I was just looking for clarification on that portion, not the medium armor shenanigans.

Sorry, I misunderstood. In the Pathfinder Beta, Track isn't a feat, it's a class feature. You can put it in your feat list if you want, I suppose.

Ed,

Your character is missing two feats; a level 2 human monk gets two feats at level 1, plus Improved Unarmed Strike, plus two monk bonus feats. I would suggest something that will help you hit in combat, perhaps Weapon Finesse.

You should also indicate how many skill ranks you have in each skill.

(Male Half-Dwarf Fighter 1/ Wizard 10/ Loremaster 2)

Thanks - made the fixes....

Ed

Ok, awesome. Sorry for the confusion! Ready to roll, then.

Andoran (Male Elder Human Mage and Cleric of Name Levels)

Updated my sheet and ready to roll. (Forgot to include my gauntlet on the sheet, since I am using lighter armor that did not include it naturally.)

O.K., the game thread is up and you can start posting now. Good luck to everyone! (Especialy me.)

hogarth, as I mentioned in the game thread, I’m trying to update Myvannuii to the final rules, and I just want to make sure that I’m not getting it wrong. I’m thinking that a wild mage is closer to a universalist than a specialist, since there's no “wild magic” school, so I’ll drop the bonus spells as universalists no longer get them. Also, I wanted to wait until the game got out of combat before asking a question about how a wizard’s bonded item works with recharge magic. If Myvannuii uses her bonded object to cast a spell that she doesn’t have prepared, does it replace a spell of that level that she has prepared? I guess this wouldn’t be a problem in a game with standard spellcasting, where one would just burn a spell like any other, but where they recharge I’m wondering if it would be more balanced this way. That is, for example, if you can only have one x-level spell prepared, but it recharges, would ruling that using your bonded item to cast another spell replaces that spell as the one that you have prepared be more in line with how bonded items are supposed to work? That way the bonded item doesn’t become even better in a game with recharge magic, where you could otherwise go back to casting a spell that's more generally useful after the recharge time. Or am I misreading how bonded items work?

I'll say that the bonded item allows you to cast one spell of your choice per day without any recharge time. Otherwise I agree that it would be a bit useless. :-)

By the way, there's now a built-in dice roller on this site!

E.g.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 = 13

You guys wouldn't be accepting new players would you?

Not right at the moment. I'll let you know when the next player quits in disgust. :-)

Hogarth -I hope you're keeping an eye on this board as I didn't want to stop the flow of the campaign.

I am finding it a little tough to be more than a stereotypical NPC fighter - primarily because it isn't a character I rolled (and I picked up mid-adventure) and I can't generate a flavour for the wannabe brewer (no pun intended).

I would like to roll a new fighter when it is sensible - and I can then give him a character I can role-play fully.

In terms of rolling something up, the rules I have picked up are:

1. Pathfinder Core Rulebook (plus the web traits - not sure how many)
2. Hit points will be max at first level, max-2 for each additional level, with no racial hp
3. Start at Level 2 - not sure if anyone has advanced as yet
4. 25 point buy to start
5. Not sure what to do about equipment. I read 100gp and 1000gp (misprint I think)?
6. Don't think there is a number 6?

Can you check the above and point me in the right direction.

Thanks - abstract xp

1. I don't think anyone has any traits. We're using the core book only, so far, but if you want something unusual, I'm willing to consider it.

2. Yup.

3. After this fight (assuming that you guys prevail), you'll have enough XP for level 3. So you'd be starting at level 3, most likely.

4. Yup.

5. That's not a misprint. It's either 1100 gp or (100 gp & a +1 weapon or armor). It'll be higher for a level 3 character, though. Let me think about it; it'll probably be something like (N gp & a magic weapon/armor & another magic item).

6. There probably is a #6, but I forgot. :-)

Don't worry -- I don't think this fight (plus possible denouement) will last forever...

I can't wait for the Templar class from Paizo next year. Just like a Paladin, but you don't have to be LG. Having said that, I may chose a Paladin instead of a Fighter? None of the party are evil.

Do you have an issue with a Paladin? It'll certainly give me something to role-play. I just picked up the Tome of Secrets and it has a good section on flaws and the like - so I will certainly add some of these.

The new classes it introduces are OK and the book itself is alright. Perhaps a little expensive here in the UK (£20/US$40) but I like to have choices.

Hogarth - in case you were wondering, the above post is mine...

I don't have a problem with a player playing a paladin. It's downright commendable. :-)

The beta Cavalier is out from Pathfinder. This is the 'Paladin' that doesn't have to be LG. Same principles but you follow either a deity or a cause, or a noble or...

Need to make sure it's not broken, but it really appeals when Bron is retired.

Yup, I've taken a look at it, and you're welcome to play one!

hogarth wrote:

As you hopefully can tell from my posts, I'm positioning Bron as having lost heart during the recent encounter at the smithy.

How soon will you need to approve my new character to replace Bron? Do you have a steer as to what you want to see? I'm still keen on a faith based Paladin (what alignment restrictions would you want to impose)?

Good question. I had expected the multi-alignment paladins to be part of the Advanced Player's Guide playtest, but it looks like they won't be.

Why don't we discuss what changes you'd like to make to the paladin class? I'd be open to something like the "Paladin of Freedom" from Unearthed Arcana, for instance (using the PFRPG paladin as a base).

I could do a standard Paladin but with a different alignment/god. Or I could go with a Cavalier (faith based though). I'll have to see if I can borrow a copy of Unearthed Arcana.

Or a Barbarian with a twist. Kind of a David Banner. Relatively high INT that can add something to the party when not in a rage.

I like to have a dimension to my characters - and Bron seems too straight-laced as a fighter.

Or I could do a rogue/assassin type or even a ranger - but perhaps the party need another melee character? I'm very flexible but like to have characters with a twist.

Any of those ideas would be fine by me. I think a paladin or cavalier would work especially well.

I have the basics of a Paladin. What's my spend? It'll help me decide what direction I ultimately take.

It's a 25 point buy. For equipment, I'll look it up, but it should be something like any masterwork stuff you want, plus a +1 weapon (or equivalent) plus a +2 stat booster (or equivalent). I'm flexible, if you want something different.
