Mark of the Owl: Left in the open at birth the silver elven children are each visited by a creature of the Great Forest. The favoured are blessed as special by a particular animal and bird in some way, such as a clawmark or bite. It is believed that the mark shows the elf babe holds the spirit of a creature's relation who died recently. Mark of the Owl grants a +2 bonus on all Perception checks.
Hello all, just checking in. Still no word from the two no shows, so it is looking good for Jagyr and Larcifer. I think the Trait thing isn't too unbalancing. Do you all think one or two? Give me an opinion.

Just tell me what you want so I can look them up.

Let me know what you think Patrick.
I think that's right on the money :). Perhaps a ritual commemorative tattoo where the marking occured? Just for flavor, I am a sucker for it.
I ageee no unbalancing at all. I'd favour two traits apiece but I'll go with the majority. If it is two 'd like this from the SD companion...page 12
Sacred Conduit: Your birth was particularly painful and
difficult for your mother, who needed potent divine magic
to ensure you survived; your mother may or may not have
survived. In any event, the magic infused you from an
early age, and you now channel divine energy with greater
ease than most. Whenever you channel divine energy to
turn or rebuke undead, you gain a +2 trait bonus on the
Turn/Rebuke Undead check
Weighing in as DM I vote for two, I just wanted to see what other folks thought. Traits are a new concept. Wellard, that SD trait is a real goodun for an undead-infested dungeon, I reccommend it if we have a consensus on the dual traiting.
League of the Silk Purse: Members of this loose affliation of treasure seekers operate outside the law, receiving information and equipment in return for coin or magical discoveries. A member of the group has access to one contact within town that can help him. DM to decide what form this help takes.
Cheers

humm have to look over traits but 2 sounds fair I do like the concept.
Nice FW. Your contact shall be the weasely Reven from Reven's Used Bits, the local pawn shop of Stoneroot. He also operates as the local fence/easy credit/black marketeer in town. Considering the high-taxation on goods brought out of the dungeon this trait makes sense.

The two I'm giving Svetla are both from the PF Companion #1: Second Darkness. Dangerously Curious was a must though I also liked Magical Talent (Mending) to fix Svetla's Life Staff if it gets broken. For the second Trait, I thought may be Rich Parents, but decided on Sacred Touch as something more useful for the entire group.
Sacred Touch: Gives the ability to Stabilize a creature with a touch as a standard action.
Dangerously Curious: +1 to Use Magic Device. Plus Use Magic Device is considered a Class Skill.
For some reason I just can't post today. I've tried updating Svetla's profile with her Traits like 5 times. I've also made three attempts to post to this thread. It's beginning to bug me.
We are making our own Seeker. Traits are small bonuses that tie the PCs to the game. Your character as a bard, could have some like these:
Bardic mentor: You were lucky enough to apprentice with a master bard when you were younger. +2 to any specific Perform (instrument) you have.
Local favorite: your musical stylings are particularly appreciated in a certain region. Gain a +2 on any Diplomacy check within the area.
Singer of ancient songs: You have studied the past through song. Gain a +2 to your Knowledge(History). **Only applicable if you are trained in Knowledge(History)**
Angel in the wings: Your performing has attracted the attentions of a wealthy patron. This patron can be called upon for assistance on occasion.
Anything really you can come up with that isn't too munchkinny.

Yeah there is something strange going on. I've been kicked off about a dozen times to where I have to sign in again.

I've had the Paizo server timing out on me all day. This is the first time I've been able to even see Paizo.com! Luckily, I got my Beta in the mail today, so I've had my Pathfinder fix!
So, two traits? I'll try to think up another one for my (potential) character.
Edit: My latest trait idea:
Weathered: Years spent wandering streets, alleyways, trails, and wilderness have exposed your body to some of the rougher elements nature has to offer. Your experience allows you to better acclimate yourself to harsh physical conditions, granting you a +1 bonus to Fortitude saves.
Perhaps a ritual commemorative tattoo where the marking occured? Just for flavor, I am a sucker for it.
In the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling, a salve is rubbed on dragon bites (dragons grow from newt-size to really big) to neutralize the venom in the saliva. A side effect of the salve is to permanently stain the bite marks blue. Since non-lethal dragon bites are considered to be lucky blessings, people tend to like to show off their blue markings.
And that's your obscure fantasy reference for the day. :)

These are pretty good, Patrick. Is there are make your own Traits thread? Or better yet a thread for getting our Traits added to Pathfinder? If not, I fully suggest you start one.

I like this one. It fits my character well. Do you mind if I steal it?
Hey guys just got home from vacation #1. If I make the cut I am leaning towards playing a female Dwarven Cleric of Adabar. Wellard if this is stepping on your role let me know as I have other options as well. I figure 2 clerics would be very useful. I am on vacation #2 from sept1-21st and my posts will be delayed as I am off to Europe. I will leave Patrick instructions on DMPCing the character I intend to play. Wellard if you see this let me know if you are comfortable with a second Dwarven Cleric, I will make her different from yours. At any rate I just want to make sure you are comfortable. I am thinking of the Nobility and Protection Domain. I want to make a Shield Madien concept so basically a light crossbow and a heavy shield with Bashes. I will stat her up!
Trait #1
Shield Maiden standard action
When wielding a shield of any kind you may take a -2 penalty to your armour class to provide one adjacent ally an AC bonus equal to the AC bonus of the shield used. Cannot be used with Tower Shields due to their cumbersome nature. Any magic bonus of the shield applies.
"A mother's threatened child inspires protection"
Trait #2
Daughter of Tharkad-Kul
All allies in a 20ft radius of the "daughter" including the daughter herself gains a +1 bonus to their saves vs fear and death effects; while in the Halls of Tharkad-Kul.
"A mother's gentle word is often enough to sooth her children"
Desert Traveller
You have spent many years traveling in the arid deserts of your homeland and as a result have developed a touch of the camel's constitution. You gain a +2 bonus to all Fort saves or Con checks to avoid taking damage due to thirst or dehydration.
Could Reven provide me with some minor aid, just to start the ball rolling? Maybe a potion of healing or some basic information on the upper dungeon. Divel is good for it. Honest.

I took your advice KMD and started This thread I took the liberty of posting all of our Trait ideas (with attribution). I figure this is a great idea, should share it a bit. Kudos Larcifer for bringing it up.
Oh, and alternates:
YOU ARE BOTH IN! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But of course. Well, I am going to say the party will be NINE players since I did say post by Sunday, and I just gave the alternates the green light. Hopefully we won't bog down to much in play. Welcome aboard Eldon. Peruse the thread so far and I will be posting more soon.

Go right ahead. If I end up in this game, it'll give our characters something to talk about.
I was thinking about this today and a potion of healing is fine, and he is going to be the one who hands you your first map. It aint much, but I truly do hate the 'mysterious man in a tavern' bit. Reven is a perfect info foil.
That is just what I'd like. It all adds to the mystery of the PC and making him a source of information is going to test Divel's powers of short conversations. Great stuff.
All right. The lineup looks to be like this (in no particular order):
1.French Wolf: Divel the verbose Silver Elf
2.Joey Lafayatis: Eldon Tindertwig the light-fingered hobbit
3.Jagyr Ebonwood: Keirgan Muhollow the Human druid who has a sharp eye.
4.Larcifer: Ingrahild Hammastrum the waitressing sheild maiden.
5.Mark Thomas84: Merzhan al-Kahadiim Mysterious Human sorceror from the desert sands.
6.Rimrock: Borondon Thurgund, a doughty dwarf fighter
7.Wellard: Sondergang Wulfsson, a taciturn dwarf cleric
of Torag.
8. Seekerofshadowslight: Novorn, a human bard.
9. KissMeDarkly: Svetla Isenheim, a human female fighter.
We will get going starting this upcoming week, I am thinking, once I polish up the dungeon a bit :)
Oh jeez...Larcifer, your dwarf cracks me up!
She reminds me of Big Bug-Faced Baby-Eating O'Brien from Muppet Treasure Island (there's an obscure reference). Or perhaps a school lunch lady. I giggle every time she talks! This should be fun.

Oh, I agree. I love the dwarf. Also, kudos to Kiergan, amazing roleplaying (sorry about taking your coinpurse. Brilliant pickup)
Roleplaying is all about improvisation acting (which I used to be very good at, I'll have you know!), which is all about picking up on what the other actors give you to work with.
Besides, a fun hook is always better than "You look trustworthy, would you care to join us in our noble quest?"
Hey folks! Great to see all the progress so far. I am approaching my lean posting days, so my posts will be spotty until Weds afternoon. Keep tweaking your characters, and we shall be running through the dungeon later this week!
Just finished giving Svetla's profile an update. I've added her background & a Harrowing. Wellard, I added a link between our PCs in Svetla's background (aka "PAST".) So check it out & let me know if there are any issues.
Joey, looks like we're also testing the new skill system. As amatter of fact with the new blanket skills of Acrobatics, Stealth and Perception, and Open Lock being absorbed into Disable Device I think you'd end up with 4 extra skills.
hey "Kiss me..." I like the Harrowing idea do you own a deck? how did you do it, would u mind doing one for the Over-protective Mother Ingrid...
I do own the Harrow Deck. I shuffled the deck and dealt out the nine card Spread. Though I hadn't asked a question, I took the cards I had just dealt and followed the instructions on which ones should be read. One card for each column with Role, True, & Opposite Matches always Read. Keeping in mind any misaligned cards may have an effect on the Reading. It also helps that I had done the Harrowing before I wrote up Svetla's background. So it worked out pretty well.
Larcifer, I will do Ingrahild's Harrowing. Because from her profile, I feel that Ingra's Past hasn't been detailed so you might be working on it still. If there's anything you don't care for in the Reading, I also offer what little knowledge I have from the Harrow Deck Instruction booklet to help you come up with something you feel is more appropriate for your PC.
Larcifer, what made this reading tricky was the True placement of The Rakshasa, which is the card of dominance & mind control. This card indicates an exterior force imposing itself on another. Other than this I just read the meanings of each card, then chose a card (or two) and wrote it all out in that vague fortune teller way of speaking. Oh, I also kept in mind the character I was doing the Harrowing for, taking into cosideration both Ingra's and Abadar's alignments. This actually came out better than I thought it might.
A Harrowing is a 3x3 9 card Spread. The columns are Past, Present, and Future as well as Lawful, Nuetral, Chaotic. The Rows are Good, Nuetral, Evil. Here are the cards I dealt with their alignments & the corresponding STAT. Any placement is listed after the card.

"I see your dedication. No. I see how the desires and longings of your people have pushed you to be dedicated and how it has led you into the life you lead. I see something of great might stirring, rising up before you. A thing so strong you maybe swept away. Beware your obsession lest you be lost. Finally, I see that the keys to unlocking your destiny may yet be found.
KMD, awesome interaction with the Harrow! Love it.
Despite my original intention of running this as a 'stripped down' combat type PbP you all seem to have developed fantastic RP characters. Can't say as I am displeased :)
Anyway, we will be getting to the hack und slash soon. I am hoping to have some good scenarios and cinematic effects in place.
French Wolf/Divel: concerning Mark of the Owl: It has been remarked that a blanket +2 to Perception might be a little too high for a trait. Perhaps either a blanket +1 or a narrower focus +2 (like 'under darkness' or 'in the forest') to start?
I haven't read the remarks but Perception is now a very important skill so +1 seems fair.
Plus my craw would get a bit stuck too.
Cheers
I agree, though I don't know what remarks are being referred to. I'm just personally opposed to conditional bonuses on behalf of my gaming group, all of whom are decidedly not rules oriented. It essentially adds a benefit to your character that is supposed to be always on, yet you still have to remember to use it.
Anyway, I think I've rambled away from the original point...
Hey all, quick early morning posting since I managed to drag myself up a litttle early <YAWN>.
FW: +1 it is. If anyone is interested in the remarks, I had put a thread up to get some perspective from the community on our traits >Here< and I have also had a chance to look a little deeper into the whole trait mechanic via the SD Player's guide and it seems a +1 blanket/+2 focused bonus seems to be the norm. There are some that even give a +5 for a very focused situation!
Everything is looking good so far, I am trying to craft some interesting encounters, when we start the wheels rolling (I am thinking most likely tonight) I can hopefully get a feel for y'alls abilities.
Wellard/Sondergang:
Spoiler:
At this point I have only detailed a small side complex, so I haven't the slightest where the Temple is. However, you can rest assured that when the time comes you will have the information you need :) This place is a deserted city, lots of area you can explore!
