it was so hard to whisper it, you have no Idea. I typically play the fighter, so I naturally want to pick every fight that is presented. I almost told them to have a drink of the water.
Regarding the missing posts, I don't have much experience about playing by post so I probably should wait for more experienced players to chime in. I think the OOC thread could be a good place to talk about this. I think Dorgar, regardless, that expressing how you feel about it is right and not at all jumping the gun. I believe he expected a few weeks of maelstrom though.
I'm on the fence about recruitment. Rufus looks to be unfinished, without feats, spells memorized, gear, backstory, etc. (although he does show some fun creativity in the details about the raven familiar, or his few posts) and it's possible the player simply doesn't have as much time as he'd need to be able to keep up with a fast-posting game. On the one hand, we might be good with five, even if his appearances are sporadic, and this seems to be his first PBP, and likely his first exposure to the Paizo boards. On the other hand, it might be best to recruit another sooner, rather than later. In my experience, joining a game in media res seems to make it harder to integrate into the group, even if you've only missed an encounter or two... Yeah, big help, I'm on both sides!
lol I want to give him a chance to respond, but if nothing comes in the next couple days I feel we have to proceed without him. I to think it would be easier to get someone else on board before we get to far in. I hope Rufus shows up.
Sounds good. Even if he comes back with a short term RL issue we might be able to work around it. Hopefully he can be in touch soon. I hope everything is alright.
Sorry to hear you won't be able to join us. I hope you have time to read along from time to time, and perhaps down the road join some of us in another story.
Well that leaves us with a new decision, press on with you five, or get a replacement for Rufus preferably before you guys leave town? Let me know your thoughts on what you guys think we will go with the majority opinion. If the decision is yes I will put up a recruit replacement thread ask people to read what we have so far and submit what they would like to play on that thread that way you guys could see the submissions, and have a say in who replaces Rufus. At this point it is your story as well. I think leave it open for a couple of days(the weekend for example), and everyone can email me their vote if they want who ever has most votes gets in. Just let me know what you as players would like to do.
I'm happy with this group, though I am certainly not opposed to adding someone else, if we do add someone else I think a good thing to look for is if they are active in any threads out there. After all if they are active in one thread it is likely they can handle another.
I too am happy with the group as it is. Of course, if we keep playing together, we might feel the lack of a full spellcaster, but I was thinking EK (thinking, not knowing) if the game moves on after the first modules.
Anyhow, maybe now is not the best time either. It's a lot of work to get someone in. I find the game moves along quite nicely, the characters are fun and got a good sense of each other already. Perhaps between modules, or if another player leaves.
I have thought about it and I am beginning to agree I think moving forward is perhaps the better move the group seems to be working good together. If you guys want to add a sixth later down the road I am cool with that there will be places where it will be easy for someone to jump in.
I'm from the Seattle area, so I guess I'm three hours behind both of you. I live in a small town about half an hour outside of Seattle, and I work about two blocks from the old Paizo offices (before the move).
yup I am a night owl as well. I guess it runs in the family. I think we are all kinda insomniacs who prefer the dead of night to the light of day hehe.
Good idea on the initiative and the spoiler when ahead of the count. I think, if we don't jump initiatives too much, that it will allow to keep a good flow.
I'm going to hijack our OOC thread for a moment and ask if everyone would like to put together concepts for a kingmaker pbp, and then see if we can get a gm to run for us. I know Rick and Ian want to and I Believe Mark does as well. How bout the rest of you guys? there is also a fellow that has been trying to get in a game that wants to work with us. I think the important thing is to come up with a cohesive group of characters that have a shared story between them. So what do you guys think anyone have any ideas on what they want to play. Anyone want to be the ruler?
I have two concepts for a Kingmaker PBP, and to save time explaining them, I'll just post under their aliases. The first would require that the GM is willing to allow APG classes, as it's a summoner, with a squiffy possible link to the fallen house Rogorvia and its red dragon allies.
The other is a Bard, if the GM doesn't want to deal with APG classes in general (or Summoners in specific).
And yeah, they pretty much have the same name. I went to a Polish names site to find a name that fit the names in the Kingmaker Players Guide, and was too lazy to go back and find another for the second character concept. :)
I'm not terribly interested in being 'the ruler' in any case. The Bard is very much a behind-the-throne guy, and the Summoner would *love* that role, but, like most people who want to be king, he's probably the last person who should be king (or is qualified for the job, for that matter)...
AAremeth and I were thinking of a pair of brothers who are retainers of the noble in the party. Their family having served his for generations they would be companions from childhood up. Originally we had thought of a bard and cavalier, but Rick is playing a cavalier in a pbp we just got into so he may wish to go with another class. I am open to filling in a role that is needed in the party, so I would be happy to let you go with the bard if you would like Set. I like the polish names that is a good idea to find names that fit the feel of the game as well.
Game related, but didn't want to clog up the IC thread. Where on the map did the battle take place? That would influence what I do with the bodies.
As for general concepts for a possible Kingmaker campaign, I was thinking of either a sorcerer who could possibly be a ruler or a warrior type who would take up either the general or Marshal position.
I would definitely be in for a Kingmaker PbP. I am currently in three PbPs, playing a cleric, a rogue and a ranger. That has me leaning toward a wizard for the next one. I have a few different ideas for that type of role. I would also love to test drive the paladin or fighter classes. The wizard I was thinking would be a great advisor and spymaster (I loved the idea of a diviner as the spymaster). Ruler may not be my first choice, but in life I tend to fall into that role and I would be willing to do so in a campaign like this. If that were the case, I would lean toward the paladin or a sorcerer to get that Charisma up there.
I would be happy to work on concepts, but we should also find, like you said Dorgar, a common link. I find the following positions a little more interesting: Ruler, Spymaster, General, Royal Assassin, High Priest (the more I think of it, the more they ALL could be interesting).
I need to read and think about that one. I'll see what I can put together over the weekend, unless you have a tighter deadline.
It's also important to know wether the APG is in or not.
Hi all. I'm the down on his luck, but oh so persuasive character Dorgar mentioned above. I'd love a shot at High Priest (Perhaps with greater aspirations) Power behind the throne (Or on the throne) type cleric of Gorum. Greedy, Manipulative, but oh so sincere.
Well as we are the group proposing our concept I think we should go with what we are looking for. It seems most dm's are willing to allow the APG, so I think if you want to play one of those classes go for it. I think our big selling point will be a dm looking at our group, and our Party that is tied together in their background. I know according to the AP each character is allowed one Role in the Kingdom. Personally I purpose that one of us be a noble with the intention of them being the ruler. Then everyone else build characters that are either relations of the Ruler, or retainers of the rulers family. I would prefer we have a group that intent to set up a just and decent land. I know the roles don't come into play till the 2nd installment, but I think if we plan ahead what we are shooting for it will be more appealing. I suggest we start by deciding on who is going to play the ruler, and classes. I know some will want to decide class after they know what role they are going to fill. How about everyone who knows for sure what class or role they would like go ahead and state it if more than one person want the role we roll off, or let those who want the same roll work it out. I think rolling off for ruler sounds like a fair idea to me. Then we could build on it from there. I do not desire to be the ruler so I will let that be known. It looks like we have at least three people who are toying with the idea. I guess I will wait for feedback on this post. Mark were you pretty solid on wizard or sorcerer if not the ruler looks like we got enough willing to take the job if it's not something you would rather not do.
as for myself I will happily fill a gap if needed once we see what we have if there are no gaps then I will check out the roles left over, and pick one and design my character with it in mind.
Councilor: Wisdom or Charisma
General: Strength or Charisma
Grand Diplomat: Intelligence or Charisma
High Priest: Wisdom or Charisma
Magister: Intelligence or Charisma
Marshal: Dexterity or Wisdom
Royal Assassin: Strength or Dexterity
Spymaster: Dexterity or Intelligence
Treasurer: Intelligence or Wisdom
Warden: Strength or Constitution
My Bard could fit Councilor, Grand Diplomat, Royal Assassin or Spymaster.
My Summoner could fit Councilor, Grand Diplomat (his bombastic style and sense of self-importance might make this a challenging role for him, but he's got the Charisma score and Diplomacy skill to pull it off) or Magister.
Technically, since both are Cha-based, they could do Ruler, General or High Priest as well, but those really don't fit the feel of either of them.
The Bard has ties to a random noble house, that recently lost one of it's heirs, but that I deliberately left un-named.
The Summoner has ties to a temple/shrine of Calistria and to the street-life of an un-named community.
I'm working on a sorcerer for the arcane role. I think it might be best if we have several candidates for the leader role; you never know how things are going to go in play. What I am developing would be a sorcerer with the celestial bloodline. Human, although possibly aasimar if allowed.
OK, I'll put together a Rogue/Diviner, possibly going the Arcane Trickster way (unless someone thinks it's a waste, I know there's been a lot of ink spilled on that one) to focus on the Spymaster/Royal Assassin way.
If we're building a royal family here, Janku fits in as either a younger son presented to the church, or perhaps more fittingly a bastard hidden in the church, whom has since seen this as his road to equality (superiority?) and power.
I think it'd be kind of cool to go the bastard for power route, matbe a lord wanted better for his illigitnate son, and his wife wanted him dead, so they agree to send him on a quest to the wild.
With the large amount of spellcasters ideas flying around, I am thinking that I might try for a dexterous fighter, possible combination with Rogue. He would have a decent charisma and intelligence as well so that he could fit into a Ruler position but more targeted for a strategic general. Plan on taking leadership to get a standing army and the cohort might possibly fill a post that is lacking if that is possible.
