DDI is really useful for DMs. For a player, you basically get the Character Generator and it is debatable whether you would want to fork out for that. Anyway, I intend to use the Character Generator for those who don't want to buy the books anyway.
Agreed.
But note that I probably WOULD be signing up IF they ever get that long-promised digital table up and running! (My old original college game group all promised that we would all get back together online when it was announced!) But at this point it sounds like they have completely dropped it, with no plans for trying again anytime soon. :P

Yeah, when I first saw that, I was like Oooooooo.
I'd join too, but I'm gonna hafta pass. No 4E books, restricted budget and compressed time.
I'm just loving the cinematic aspects of this fight. Explosions? Check. Flying sceaming madmen? Check. Heavily armoured and armed cavemen? Check. 12' tall giant appearing out of nowhere along with his sledge-wielding dwarf sidekick? Double check.
And that's before we even get to see the still-hidden Battle-Cat... Awesome!
I just downloaded all of them - I don't know the first thing about Talislanta (though it's supposed to be rather good), but free is free. And if there's one thing I have enough of, it is harddisk space.
Haven't looked too closely at it yet. There are two rulebooks, a couple of bestiaries and some sourcebooks and large adventures. It should be good for inspiration, if nothing else.
Hey folks. I have made a descision to drop off the internet for a bit. I'm not sure for how long. If you want to keep Pip in, and just have him strum his tunes that's cool, I'll most likely be back, I just can't tell when.
Right on; you gotta do what you gotta do....
I'll roll this combat, then Pip'll pip off for a bit; bop around Sasserine and whatnot; he'll be barhopping like a bard.

Hey man, hope all is ok. I'm sure you've got your reasons, and I'm sure they're good ones ... but if it turns out it's because the internet is full of asshats, just stick to the pbps! ;-)

I reckon you might be on to something there chief.
Hey Heath, you’d have seen all these variant rakshasas that are statted up around the place, right? I think there’s one in the Eberron book, a couple in MM3 or so, and some big bad Rakshasa boss in Pathfinder 9 or thereabouts. Probably some more about the place too.
There's another subbreed in the Bo9s as well; running stuff out of there kinda trips me up though, doubly so since the death of the concentration skill.
Also been looking at Ramayana cartoons on Youtube; I think this "tiger headed" or, with Pathfinder, "plethora of beast headed" riff is purely the unique invention of Dungeons and Dragons.
There was an old Nightstalker episode, Karl Kolshack, on ABC Friday night at 9pm in the early 70's that had a rakshasa.
Prolly my motivation for gaming, that show.
Lady from India at work a few years ago laughed that I knew what a rakshasa was; taught me how to pronounce it authentically after a fashion; I'm not the least bit versant in malayalam or hindi, so who knows what subtle mistake I'm making.
It sounds like "rrrrek-shissa;" the r sort of drawn out, the last two syllables spoken quickly. It sounds cooler than the way I'd be inclined to say it.
I like that pronunciation – I just go phonetic myself (so, rack-shasa). You’re probably right about the animal headed thing – from what I’ve heard they were shape shifting demons (or possibly giants) of no set form.
My apologies if the elemental summoning looked a bit too much like a Final Fantasy VII cutscene. Maybe I should have summoned a bunch of these instead...
(lol) I was free associating; Thundercats; Snarf;.....
Raksnarfsnarf's......(along the lines of teh gullyraks)
kinda puggsly reptile cat Snarf rakshasa; 2 hd; dr10/rubber chicken; only good for comic relief...
