Oh! I see what you mean; no the chest has not been opened and no one in the public that you know of has seen it.

(Male Human Cleric 3)

Some questions about our situation in the Gold Goblin...

1 - Are we armed? I'm assuming so, as I didn't not anything about bouncers removing our weapons.
2 - Are other clientele armed? Aside from the crooks, that is...
3 - How many bouncers are there still armed after the surprise round, if any?
4 - Could you mark in the location of the chandeliers? (It looks like it may end up as that kind of fight :) )

(Male Human Cleric 3)

An addition to the character actions...Bor drew his weapon and stealthed for his surprise round action. We're waiting on the thieves at top of round.

1 - Are we armed? I'm assuming so, as I didn't not anything about bouncers removing our weapons.
A: Everyone has their sidearms. No two handed weapons are permitted inside.

2 - Are other clientele armed? Aside from the crooks, that is...
A: All the NPC's have their own weapons; this IS Riddleport after all.

3 - How many bouncers are there still armed after the surprise round, if any?
A: The bouncers were all targeted in surpise round, they're all down.

4 - Could you mark in the location of the chandeliers? (It looks like it may end up as that kind of fight :) )
A: You may assume the chandeliers are all within an acrobatic leap DC16 (or DC6 from a table).

Round 2 phase 24

Thuvalia [Thief #1], having held until now, calmly steps back and unloads her crossbow into Darcy.
Crossbow shot: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Miss. She curses and drops the crossbow.

Round 2 phase 23
Thuvalia [Thief #1] draws her rapier and lunges at Darcy, snarling curses.
Rapier thrust: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Miss. Darcy doesn't even need to parry as he sways aside.

I kinda' hate to mention this, because Darcy came out of this little exchange well, and when I talk crunch in an on-line game it always seems to come across as criticism, which it's not meant to be. But...

The Special Initiative Actions rules (p.202 to 203 in the core book) for both Delay and Ready specifically prevent this sort of 'double dipping' of actions. When you Delay or Ready your Initiative count changes to when you actually act - you never get two actions in one round just for taking a Delay or Ready action. If you wait a whole round without acting, you lose your chance to act - basically you've just been hanging on, and hanging on... and simply waited out your chance to go.

So, if Thuvalia waited until the very end of a round to fire at Darcy her new Initiative count would be at the very end of the next round. If she waited until just before her previous Initiative count, then the same thing happens - she's wasted a whole round waiting, and merely notched her Initiative count up by one.

If you think about in-game logic this makes sense - you can't act any faster by waiting, although you can be ready to react faster. Think about a character getting ready to run a sprint race: he can wait and be ready to start running as soon as the gun goes off, but he can't boost himself to twice his normal speed for six seconds just by waiting.

Of course, this could be a DM house rule (if so, it'd be nice to know - 'cos the ability to double dip actions is pretty easy for PCs to exploit), or something weird happening behind the scenes (although I'd have expected some sort of description to support anything that weird - like 'she's moving so fast she blurs' or something - but even Haste doesn't let you do what she did, so it'd have to be weird indeed). If so, sorry for bringing it up!

On the subject of house rules - I see you're using the 'fumble' option. Any other options or house rules beyond the norm we should know about?

But, most importantly, I'm really enjoying this game: excellent DMing, thanks!

Upon further review...
I see you are right about the Initiative Delay actions; though I reserve the right to bend descriptive text for dramatic purposes.

I tend to use the rules as written as house rules in a PbP are kinda confusing for players.

As for the critical hits and fumbles, well I have these Critical Hit and Critical Fumble decks that I like to use. They're pretty fun, though you have to nerf the fumbles at low levels.

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

Gods yes, please do! :)

Okay - now I'm really scared! ;)

Sorry about that, your equipment list only says "Darkwood Shield"; I assumed it was a light shield.

Yeah, I took it from page 467 where they list 'Darkwood Buckler' (a buckler) and 'Darkwood Shield' (a heavy shield), but you're right, I should have stated outright, especially considering there's that whole seperate section on darkwood stuff on page 154.

Great game - Darcy's even finally hit a bad guy! :)

Eros wonders why Cream Puff hasn't written a song about him yet. Surely such a piece would be a source of inspiration for both young and old.

Oh, Darcy has a song about Eros ready to go... just waiting for the right time to sing it... :)

(Male Half-Elf Ranger Level 2)

Lol I can just imagine!! Hopefully Darcy will live long enough to sing it all the way through Rofl.

(Male Human Cleric 3)

Just realized that Imps are Tiny and have a Reach of 0.

Should Maelorn have taken an attack of opportunity when the Imp went from 1 square to 0 to make his attack? (My magicians used to get burned by this all the time when familiars attacked, but I'm not sure if you handle it differently).

Sorry man, he was invisible when he hit you, catching you flat footed.
Addressing your question; without access to my books at work, I would say no. If you can take a 5 foot step without provoking, he can go from square 1 to square 0 to attack without provoking also.

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

p. 194 to 195 in the core rule book says Tiny & smaller creatures entering your square for melee do provoke, yes (but as the DM mentioned, only if you could attack them normally - i.e. not if they surprise attack you, etc.).

As for not having books to hand - I find the PRD link (three links down, under the logo and search, top left of the page) is a lifesaver... as long as the boss isn't looking over your shoulder whilst you browse... ;)

Well, I read it, so it must be true. Seems unneccessary somehow.

(Male Half-Elf Ranger Level 2)

how long will eros be unconscious?

And then how long will he be blind and stunned?

Perhaps I should just assume I am out of the encounter until it is concluded.

Fair warning campers! I'll be out camping in the wilds of Eastern Oregon starting Thursday morning. I'll be gone until Sunday evening.

He's been orating for six turns straight to little response from the crowd... at this point I think it's safe to say the good citizens of Riddleport have decided to elect the PCs the heroes of the hour... ;)

Too True. But it's not in Maelorn's psyche to believe most people are schlubs.

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

Political Correctness disclaimer: despite the song, Darcy has nothing against the queer folk... he just thinks that it's the sort of thing that'll annoy Eros... ;)

(Male Half-Elf Ranger Level 2)

Thats a funny song Darcy! Lol

It's a wonder Eros hasn't taken his flail out and gone hard core by now lol.

Excuse the intrusion. Camris, I believe you were part of Team Bridesmaid looking for a Serpent's Skull game? A GM picked up your team over the weekend, and they're wondering if your rogue is still interested. Check out this thread.

Quote:

That's okay - Darcy resisted popping the boot blades when Eros dangled his tackle at exactly kicking height... ;)

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

Not wanting to clutter the game thread any more with such a ridonkulous conversation... ;)

Eros - I'm kinda' confused as to what you're going for here. I suggested the bullying thing because you've taken the 'Bully' trait and if they knew each other as kids it made sense (either that, or Darcy would have been supporting the bullying as kids, and I picture Darcy as a nice guy). I didn't expect Eros to still be trying to bully Darcy when they're both in their thirties... but hey, it was your call, so I rolled with it. Now you're suggesting that I'm somehow forcing some 'feud' to continue, when so far Darcy's been treating the whole thing in a pretty lighthearted fashion. The last 'darker' post was a reaction to your presumption that Darcy should somehow accept Eros slaping him on the back and still insulting him every time he speaks by, I don't know, maybe rolling over or something? Like I said, I'm confused. If by 'ending the feud' you mean 'letting Eros win', then that's really not the sort of guy I pictured Darcy to be. To be honest, I thought it was all just a bit of fun, but I've been known to be wrong about these things, especially on these interweb games when it's hard to judge how other people are actually taking stuff.

If this is threatening to be an issue, I'll happily volunteer to drop out of the game - it's a good one, but I'm here to have fun, not spoil anyone elses.

Cheers.

(Male Half-Elf Ranger Level 2)

I understand your confusion. I don't intend of this feud being a major issue. I guess what I am going for is that Eros is just this obnoxious guy that occasionally makes people roll their eyes and curse under their breath. It really is meant to be just a light-hearted thing. There is no reason for you to drop out. This isn't really all that important. I guess perhaps Darcy's pride and Eros' obnoxious nature are an explosive combination that dont yet mesh well. But I am sure we can Iron it out. Eros can leave Darcy alone for awhile. I am suggesting that maybe in the future we just stick to one-liners. Eros does or says something stupid, and then Darcy tries to retort or emabarass him. And then we move on. At this point it is over, and no one has to lose. The only loss is that Eros doesn't react to whatever Darcy does. He just blows it off or laughs or something. I guess it should be more like teasing than actual fighting.

I think the two of us just got too caught up in pride and being obnoxious.

Anyways let me know if this sounds okay. I think silly one-liners would be fun.

(Male Half-Elf Ranger Level 2)

I understand your confusion about 'Letting Eros Win' and the 'forcing the feud'. Those implications are a bit rash.

They are inspired by the fact that we were quarreling once again so soon. I think I was frustrated by that, and so I was trying to put and end to it for now anyway I could.

I understand that it is ufair to expect Darcy to just suck it up.

I think that spacing it out more would keep me from being so rash.

Having some light-hearted fun is fine as long as it is taken in moderation.

Good idea; I would ENCOURAGE a no contact, no spellcasting each other, verbal insults only type of thing.
I've seen games get bogged down when the tit-for-tat snowballs into personal deulling.

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

Blather to DM:
Quote:

I apologize for not listing the crowd reaction, I had intended to skip right over it.

I think you misunderstood the magnitude of the task you attempted...

Not at all, but with no reaction posted - either positive or negative - all I can assume is that you've either by mistake or design ignored everything I've posted. After all, the DM is the players' eyes and ears in the game world, and it doesn't take long to type in 'people aren't interested in your song' or whatever... but nothing at all seems to imply that you, as a DM, don't want me to be posting this stuff... which is a little tough when the character is designed around performance and getting reactions from NPCs.

Quote:
As for steering him darker, yeah you can do that if you like...

Actually it's the last thing I want to do with the character, but the lack of response to his 'fun' persona seemed to imply that it was more the sort of thing you were after - sort of a 'just shut up and follow the damn plot' response from the DM... again, as far as I could tell (without being face to face I have no way of telling if my portrayal of Darcy is amusing people or just pissing them off... unless people actually post responses).

Of course, the 'well-dressed dwarf' also ignored Darcy's direct question as well, but without some DM response it looks like it's the DM, rather than the NPC, doing the ignoring. Again, it doesn't take long to type in 'the dwarf ignores you'.

With the whole Eros thing, I was trying to go the route taken by artistes and performers throughout history, from Aristophanes to modern saterists, and respond to his crude assaults by using word and wit and performance - to take it to Darcy's arena (social interaction), rather than resort to pulling a sword and swinging at the guy. But when Eros' crude actions get the same amount of response (or, in fact, more - on two seperate occassions now) from the NPCs than Darcy's attempts at response which I've made the effort to back-up with actual game mechanics then, once more, it strongly implies that you (as the DM controlling the NPCs) would rather I just had Darcy go for the sword (or maybe, I guess, just bend over for Eros). Since the 'social arena' is where the character's abilities lie, that's much akin to telling a Fighter that he automatically misses every time he tries to hit an enemy, or telling a Wizard that all enemies are immune to his spells...

It doesn't help, of course, that Eros' player tend to post actions which are obviously going to be opposed as if they automatically succeeded: spilling beer on Darcy, pissing on Darcy, slapping Darcy on the back. When he does that I'm forced to either respond, or to roll over and let that action occur. That sort of post - that is to say, assuming results which aren't automatic, or assigning actions to another player's character - breaks the basic ettiquette of PbPs in my book: it's something that couldn't occur in a tabletop game, where the other player is right there to say 'no... I don't think so', but in a PbP where people are stuck in different time zones with different posting times it can be easily abused to force one guy's view of what's happening onto everyone - all it takes is for a few other players to read it and post as if it were written in stone, and suddenly the victim of the action become 'a whinger who's slowing the game down' when he finally gets on-line, sees the abuse, and tries to say 'no... I don't think so' and everyone has to go back and revise a day's worth of posts. I've seen it happen in many a PbP game, and it's best to stamp it out from the start. I've tried to subtly ween the guy off such posts by Darcy's responses, but to be fair, it's not my game to police and I'm wary of ending up the guy who's always stepping on the DM's toes (which I think I've been skirting close to here by doing the whole 'rules lawyer' bit a couple of times too).

Agh! I hate posting stuff like this, it's all serious and huge downer when all I want is to have the freedom to have fun with the game, and for everyone else to have fun too. So sorry, and like I mentioned previously, if you feel I'm disrupting the game with this stuff, I'd rather bow out than spoil anyone's fun... I don't know about you or the rest of the players, but RL has enough stress for me, I don't need to go searching for more on-line! ;)

(Male Human Cleric 3)

Ping...

A week with no posts. Should we assume Darcy's player is not comfortable in this environment?

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

My thought was 'a week without a DM response to my blather', but it amounts to the same thing: I'll officially drop this one. The rest of you have fun though, I think it'll be a good one, just not for me.

I answered you in the main thread. Let me repost it here.
_______________________________________________________________
Upon further review, I see you did make a direct question to the well dressed dwarf. My eye skipped over that part; I thought you were addressing your fellow adventurers. Apologies again. His response:

Darcy wrote:

'Why on Golarion is Saul cancelling the event? The winnings are returned, the villains vanquished. This was a mere distraction - half the patrons in here are pirates, and the other half tougher than that... It seems a little nonsensical to me.'

The dwarf throws his hands up in the air.

"Did ye SEE the riot we almost had? The boss hadda do something. Daft idjit... mumble mumble." He moves off through the crowd on his errands.

(Male Half-elf Bard 2)

There was a bunch of other stuff in there I voiced concern about, but no need for me to go into pros and cons - it's just not a game for me, for whatever reasons, but I'm sure the other players will have a great time. Enjoy all.

It's unfortunate (Darcy was probably the closest to Maelorn in outlook), but I understand the reasoning. Sorry to see you go.

On a practical bent, with Darcy and Alexandu dropping, do we need to recruit?

Darcy, I'm damned sorry to see you go. Your character lent a lot of flash to the party.
I just have this horrible feeling that this could have been dealt with early on if we were face to face over a table; A limitation of the PbP environment no doubt. Ultimately, we gather here for the fun of it and only you can say if you are or not.
Until we meet again, in another game; farewell.

Alexandru, I hope your computer problems will resolve quickly. Farewell!

And yes, it's time to recruit.

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

*waves around* Nice to meet you all, though I suspect you'll see more of my character than you would of me, once we get him sorted.

So... Clan? Plan? Reasons for coming to Riddleport?

(Male Human Cleric 3)

Looking at the loot to be sold, minus those things claimed (and minus the switchblades & wrist sheaths, which I have no price for), I get a total of 2287gp 4sp 5cp

This assumes the magic item division that Eros mentioned. Is everyone OK with this? Can we presume that we can arrange sale over the next day or so?

(Male Human Cleric 3)

BTW, awaiting Saul's response on how many people he needs to hire, and whether they need particular skills. Maelorn knows a lot of hgodd but poor folk in town, and will likely try to steer jobs their way.

Wrist sheath, Spring loaded: 5gp.

(Male Human Cleric 3)

Heh...so add another 1gp each :)

Hi everyone.
Me'mori - We come from the Velashu Uplands. We are either from the Hawk Clan, the Skull Clan or the Wind Clan. Skull Clan sounds kinda cool.
Examples of reasons for us to go to Riddleport:
1. We came to win/take back a prize in the gambling tournamenets which is in fact an artifact believed to be sacred to our Clan.
2. We are chosen by the leader of our clan to go Riddleport and investigate the mysterious cloud of darkness above it.
Do you have any suggestions or elaborations to any of mine?

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

I can see that... My question is whether or not your Barbarian will be using any APG packages? What's your idea for the Barbarian? Depending on the packages(if any), it might make more sense to be of one clan.

*grin* we can merge the two ideas to say that the clan elders believe that the cloud of darkness was caused by the mishandling of our clan's sacred object, or that they think the effect is possible if used in some dark ritual of some sort that goes over both of our heads.

Mostly, I'm just holding on what type of Barbarian you're building, since that'll determine some of the preliminary ideas that we can build from.. I'm debating taking a level of Barbarian.

*looks up at DM* How far (theoretically) will this AP take us?

I don't have APG but I can see some APG barbarian powers for example are on d20pfsrd.com... Was thinking perhaps Improved Trip for a feat, and Knockdown for a Rage Power, or Lesser Fiend Totem or Lesser Beast Totem maybe. It depends alot on the Clan we choose. The reason why we were sent together is that the chieftain and wise one deemed it important to have both a diplomat (you) and a clansman who excells in fighting to protect him (me), in case he runs into something he can't handle on his own, and that in case one of us should die, the other would be able to complete the given assignment, or return to the clan with news of what happened. My character is very loyal to the clan and the wishes of the chieftain/warlord/whoever sent me with you as protection. His ambition is to one day become the clan's warlord himself. He has more respect for the tales of the land and the clans, the tales which you are an adept in, and thus we have already made friends... that's it for now. Brain numbness.

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

That changes the choices then.. with those choices, that makes it Hawk or Spire clan, and since there's an emphasis on diplomacy, I'm going to say Hawk Clan.

So, that done, I can also give you this, if you can't see it on the srd page

Spoiler:
Totem Warrior:
A barbarian often has a special totem that is the patron of her tribe. While individual totems vary, those in the tribe that call upon a totem receive similar abilities. Totem warrior barbarians can select from the following rage powers.
Rage Powers: The totem warrior is based entirely upon his totem rage powers. In addition to the totem powers themselves, the following rage powers complement the totem warrior archtype (depending on the totem chosen):
animal fury*, low-light vision*, night vision*, raging climber*, raging leaper*, raging swimmer*, and swift foot*.

Me'mori wrote:

In theory, all the way to the end. No way to know exactly how long it's going to take.

I have heard of one group that worked it's way through the Age of Worms in two years; on the other hand, I'm in a Savage Tide game that at the current pace will wrap up sometime in 2023.

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

Then I may be taking a Barbarian level.

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

HP: 1d8 ⇒ 5
TGAMPA, take another 500g to get yourself better equipped in terms of Armor or weapons.. Nakoda knows enough to make sure her bodyguard is well equipped.

*shrug* I'll have to read up on the heist -- though I'm figuring that the both of them showed up at the location due to the talk about it and got drawn in.

With your permission, it would be simplest at this point to assume that the new guys also were present at the attempted heist, and impressed Saul enough to make them junior partners as well.

Lantern Lodge (Half-Elf Inquisitive 2/ Seeker 3)

DM, any angles for a background that would tie us in to the game any closer?

(Male Human (Shoanti) Barbarian 2)

character creation in progress... what do you say?
