With a toss of her white-blonde hair, Roylenna tells the lady barbarian, "I never had to be very good at math, I doubt I will start now." With that, she winks and smiles.
Scratching her head, "Ohhhh, it's nice of you to waive the normal halfling transaction fee." She helps Roylenna push the pile of 200 gold coins that somehow mysteriously got stacked right behind her mug where no-one else could see them back into the group treasure. She blinks innocently at Roylenna.

That's not what I meant! I was thinking more along the lines of her not needing to do her own homework!!! But, since you started it...
"Too right. It would be wrong to charge my friends... Wait, what do you mean halfling transaction fee? Where did those coins come from?" She looks around to see who might have slipped them there while she wasn't looking. She does have a Perception score slightly better than a table, after all. And how many coin do you think you can hide behind a halfling's drinking glass, anyway?
Just curious: who gets the Cloaks of Resistance, and what scrolls did you want to write?
Just a suggestion, but Roylenna, Artival, and Rhianna will be getting scrolls out of the cash, so perhaps the cloaks of resistance should go to Tika and Lyria, who are otherwise left out of the loot so far.
As for the scrolls, I've been waiting for Shisumo to pipe up with his thoughts, but I see his PC took a powder on him, so let's look at Rhianna's spellbook...
Rhianna's Spellbook wrote:
First levelburning hands, comprehend languages, floating disk, identify, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, shield, shocking grasp, unseen servant
Second levelfalse life, flaming sphere, gust of wind, make whole, rope trick, scorching ray, see invisibility
How much time/how many scrolls/how much cost would be involved?
And, for Artival's question, I think the amount of excess gold depends on the number of scrolls done, but I think that if the fighters get magic weapons and the bard and cleric get cloaks, the remaining cash could safely be distributed among the three arcanists. Feel like I'm overlooking someone - if I am, I am truly sorry.

I was planning to keep the web scroll so I could add it to my book - otherwise, scribing a 1st level scroll is 12.5 gp, and a 2nd level scroll is 75 gp. Either one should take about 2 hours each, so I could theoretically get 4 done in a day, or one each night when we camp (though I have to have whatever we want to scribe prepped).

It would seem that's a decision for Artival, Roylenna, and Rhianna. Roylenna's fine with Rhianna keeping that scroll because it means the spell will be available multiple times in the future rather than a one-shot. (Sometimes she can take the long view, too.)
She'll let Artival and Rhianna determine who keeps the other two scroll-held spells, too.
As for scrolls, from a utilitarian standpoint, I think comprehend languages, unseen servant, rope trick, and see invisibility are all good candidates (as in, good to have when you need them, but not necessarily something you want to devote a daily spell slot to). Roylenna is fascinated by this false life spell you have, but she finds the visual impact a little alarming when it's in effect...
It will take Jamber at least a week to produce your items, so you should have ample time to scribe any scrolls you like.
Sorry but I'm still wasted from work. Will try to get you on the road tomorrow.

Okay, then Rhianna will scribe all four spells Ainvar listed, plus two of shield and one of false life (in case Royl changes her mind). That 275 gp worth of materials, and two days' work. If Artival wants anything scribed out of Rhianna's spellbook, he's welcome to ask.
Deciphering the web scroll isn't an issue, since Rhianna pretty much preps read magic all the time, so she just has to make a DC 17 Spellcraft check to copy the spell: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30. That makes it easily, and she deducts the 40 gp cost from the supplies of magical ink she had already purchased. So web is added to the list of things she could scribe if someone wanted her to.

Oh, Roylenna wants it. She just finds it a touch disturbing is all. Can she carry that one and a shield? You guys can figure out who carries the others. Web does seem like a reasonable choice, as well, but I've made more than enough requests on this. How much gold do you need from Roylenna for the scribing?
Tom, one question: dwarven waraxe has two blades. Can they be enchanted separately, perhaps with increased cost for doing so?
Are you wanting to treat it as a double weapon, with different enchantments for the two sides?
(Actually, the pictures I've seen showed the battleaxe as a two-bladed axe but the waraxe as a heavier, single-bladed model. I presume that's artistic license, though. I don't put any faith in historical accuracy. Who knows what the real dwarven waraxes looked like!)
No, I don't want to treat it like double weapon. I imagined it as minoan axe with two crescent shape parallel to each other, not with one blade and one hook. My question is can one blade be enchanted as frostbrand, for example, and other as dragon bane? And my character could decide which property to use simply by using that blade?

Interesting thought but no. Although perhaps you could add some sort of enchantment that would make that possible.
I'm realizing that I have let myself in for a spot of trouble here, since the Grey Citadel is an adventure that involves a fair share of investigating, which is a bit tough to manage in an 8-player PBP. Some solutions I'm bandying about in my head:
1) Continue as before and when I get stated actions for about half of you, I'll resolve it. This assumes that you will be staying together, talking to the same people and exploring the same locations.
This will be slow and possibly boring for some of you.
2) Extensive use of spoilers. This will let each one of you pursue your own line of inquiry and then you can pool your resources when it comes to information.
This could become confusing.
3) Splitting up into two parties and starting a parallel thread (or two, keeping the original thread for summaries and general discussion of where to go next).
Kind of what I'd prefer. As long as you are just investigating I would have an easier time managing two parties of four rather than one party of eight.
In any case I'll assume that you will reconvene before you attempt something dangerous. Generally just investigating will not be all that dangerous, even if some parts of the adventure are very deadly. But you will know when you get there, I promise.

What do you think?
I've seen similar situations handled as completely separate game threads (Tarren Dei had one where the adventures were supposedly a couple months apart - one thread was a rescue mission for the first thread, but the players were playing both adventures at the same time) or as teams of characters spoilering their contributions; that is, two teams, #1 investigating the mysterious stranger has x characters and they spoiler everything so they can share their actions without team #2 seeing stuff they should not know yet, and vice versa. When the whole group gets together, it's simple to split into a different pair of teams. Switching threads can be done easily, too, of course.
Either solution, I think, will work -- the important part is limiting the number of teams to keep it manageable for BT.
I think we'll make two teams of it then. The question is: who goes with which team?
At the risk of cluttering the forums I think I'll start two new threads for the teams.
I suppose that heavy hitters, that is Ka'kara and Bombur should be in different groups?
Sounds reasonable. We have a fair number of 'casters, but only one rogue and only one cleric. I'm hoping the nature of the investigations might lend clues as to the appropriate personnel -- the wizard would be better here vs the bard would be better there, etc.
I'll be out of town throughout Monday. I will be back on Tuesday and expect you to have the teams sorted by then. I get the feeling some of you would rather sit this out and wait to see some more action (and maybe Shisumo is still not able to get online), which is cool. In that case maybe we just need one investigating team.

To the best of my knowledge, Shisumo is indeed still without access. At least one game he is running remains at a standstill, but I still have hope.
Guys , I just hope you are not making the equation
Mahaffy = Rogue = Information Gatherer ....
Mahaffy = Dwarven Rogue = Not so good in social skills ....

lol - while I for one have been envisioning Mahaffy has a rather dapper fellow, I have not been thinking of him as a social butterfly.
Unfortunately, good as her Charisma is, Roylenna is not an information gatherer, either -- she's more likely to charm you than pump you for information.
Just checking: is anybody more than Mahaffy getting close to levelling up?
I don't think I am, but can you refresh my memory (again) - are we using fast, medium, or slow progression?
Medium. It's agonizingly slow in a PbP, but I find I kind of like it. Feels like an achievement when you do level. Congratulations to Mahaffy by the way. It would be nice to see more of you advancing. There is a lot of xp there for the taking.

It's cool - I think that's what most of my PbP are using, actually. But for the record, Roylenna's got a ways to go before she's leveling up.
Dark Arioch, I'm saddened to share that my tabletop PC with identity issues has perished for the last time.
Savage Tide spoilers:
Spoiler:
The elf-turned-gnoll ranger/duskblade-turned-spellblade went to -21 in three bites from the advanced brain collector in the crater. The DM, fearing a TPK, engineered a way for my backup character, a half-ogre fighter/dervish/tempest, to arrive very confused but loaded for bear. As I have told the others at our table, he's not like the gnoll -- Thurg only has one trick. But it's a very well-rehearsed trick. In optimum conditions, he can deal out over 100 points of damage to an AC 20 foe. Against AC 30, he can still deal 80 points. Kind of excited to see him in action finally, but sad to see Lakin go. *sniff*
Guys, I have to bow out. I have just been informed that I have promotion coming, and that's a good news. But that also means a lot of additional work and not enough time to play. I am very sorry.

OK, thanks for playing and good luck in your endeavors.

Beware, savage tide spoilers:
Spoiler:
Very sad to hear (as mine made it til the end I was hoping to see how yours dealt with future situations). I was very tempted to hint at that invisible brain-collector during our last conversation about the pyramid. It almost wiped some of us out too. The best we could do was chase it off temporarily. Have you done anything with the tear? As far as single round (hell, even single attack) damage went, my duskblade FAR outstripped anything I have ever played before. Had a spellstoring sword that had vampiric touch in it and then quicken channeled another spell into it and used that 3.5 feat arcane strike(?) to channel yet MORE arcane energy through it. My first attack was devastating.

Beware, savage tide spoilers: ** spoiler omitted **
Spoiler:
My biggest issue with Lakin is that Duskblade was not available when I started, so he was still relatively low level. The reincarnation cost me three more levels even when the DM decided we were too far behind to survive and told us to level up to 11th, no matter where we were. Everyone else was 11th level, but I was 8th with the physical attributes of a gnoll. My fault, I did the Savage Species treatment instead of the by-the-book Reincarnate spell method. I was dealing pretty good damage, swinging a greatsword with 23 STR before I did Enlarge Person or Bull's Strength. The only time I took advantage of channeling a spell into my sword, I crit-fumbled and did 38 points of damage to myself, leading to my reincarnation after one attack by the T.Rex. No, I did not play my duskblade well. And the dice were not kind, for that matter. I rolled more 1's as that character than anyone I've seen. I'm just lucky that that's the only crit fumble that dealt more than half my hp in one swing.
Oh, and unrelated, but it made me cry -- I critted on one of the behemoths in the undercity -- and rolled 4d6 for 4 points!!!
Hey guys, I think I'll recruit another tank if you don't mind. Also please tell me if the investigating is boring you. We could move on to Rappan Athuk (and your swift deaths) or some of the more battle-focused parts of this adventure. But actually you're doing quite well (apart from the post rate - but that may just be me being home sick and bored).
You're the boss, BT. I am fine with the pace of everything right now. Another tank couldn't hurt!
Artival hasn't posted much lately since we have been checking doors and all that stuff. He can't help there, and I don't want to clutter the board while the others are working on those tasks...

LOL. As you may have noticed, that doesn't bother Roylenna much, she just posts anytime she can find a functional keyboard.
I'm all for continuing the investigations even though I'm not terribly proficient at it.
Ka'kara is just fine with the way things are going too. I post whenever I see an opportunity for her to do so. Another tank sounds good, she's starting to think she is inadvertently chasing them off.
And please no amnesiac. We had one of those already. If you want to be a local boy Thunderhold is a mountain citadel, populated mostly by humans and dwarves (with a vaguely Scottish flavor). The campaign setting is mostly "points of light". Check out the Wilderlands for some more background.
