I will do that from time-to-time (so far only twice in the various PBPs I've been running). Although it's one of the peculiarities I've noticed - despite it being 'generally accepted' that combat in a PBP is slow and that it's more suitable to the role-playing/story based form of gaming, in my experience it's combat that ensures a quick post from everyone. No doubt due to the structure of a round-by-round setup - everyone knows what's expected. In an interaction or planning discussion it's a little less clear on how much is expected (and perhaps less clear about exactly what's going on to).

Thanks for the comments - as I said, in a text-based setting it's really hard to know what everyone is liking and/or not liking and what people expect and/or are surprised by.

I think that as players, the best way we can assist you is by giving you periodic feedback here on the discussion thread. That way you know how we are feeling about how things are going for us, and what we like or don't like.

I'm generally pretty laid back (born in LA, but a country boy at heart), and if things are okay for me I will not say much, so I will try to provide you as much feed back as I can. And I will try and let you know both the good and the bad, but so far everything is good. Like I said in my previous post, I am really enjoying the story so far. I am quite intrigued by what the party has found out so far, and looking forward to see what the next step is.

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

I have an idea for getting us out of the city. Three of our party are from outside the city already, and I assume that they could leave through the Foreign Quarter.

For the rest of us, my solution would depend on some information from our GM. If he would like Damandor to make a check for such knowledge then I can do that. What I would like to know is if there are any other shrines or temples of Corelllon, and if so, if we could get permission for a Damandor to make a pilgrimage to this other location, accompanied by a small support group to assist and protect him. This I would hope would be enough to get the rest of us out of town.

Monty, let me know what you think, and what Damandor would know about another shrine or temple.

On to another subject, does anyone know what has happened to Anyssa or Eland. Neither has posted for quite some time, and I hope nothing too serious has kept them from posting to our pbp.

(Female awww, but that would be telling Grammarian3/Artist1/Keeper of Useless Knowledge10)

Anyssa's still around, but hasn't had anything to contribute to the conversation for a while now. I should probably at least put up more of her internal monologue. She's just in way over her head. She doesn't have any helpful connections. Or even a clue. I don't even know half of the things that are getting tossed around. And it's really hard to slog through a lot of spoilered posts trying to figure our exactly what it is I'm supposed to know. Time for a recap, please?

(Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1)

Lets see, from Ashwyn we found out that the person that wrote the letter we found in Antius' house lives on the other side of the Wasteland, and is apparently several centuries old. A rogue warlord controls the desert, but for now we must get out of the city.

From the priest we found out that the masked loonies we fought were cultists of Vecna, and the magic short sword we found is apparently legendary, said to be the way to allow Pelor's return to life.

On a side note, do we still have the masks? We may want to do a quick Detect Magic on them.

(Female awww, but that would be telling Grammarian3/Artist1/Keeper of Useless Knowledge10)

Okay, that helps some. So what's Cerat Mour? (I probably just murderized the spelling.) I've noticed that name crop up a couple of times, but have no idea what it is. And what's all this stuff about Pelor's Heart? Or is that the stuff we have to find out from the dude who sent Antius the letter?

Edit: Desert? Errrrr, could I have a quick geography lesson please? I'm failing miserably to keep settings straight from each other right now. And I have very little grasp of the city at all, let alone surrounding area.

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

We know nothing at this point, I believe, of what exactly "Pelor's Heart" is, but the one thing that we do know is that it is located at C'erat Mour. It looks as if that is the next thing that Antius was going to have us do is to seek out Pelor's Heart. That is why we are discussing leaving the city and traveling across the wastelands to C'erat Mour.

As far as geography and the exact layout of the city, I'm pretty much as lost as you are. One thing that I have done to help myself out, is to keep a journal of the information that has been given to Damandor. I keep it in an electronic document (Word for example) with all of Damandor's stats and other information, basically a stat block with a character history as well.

I also included all the introductory information that Monty gave us on Bastion. It's helpful to have all that information in an electronic document that I can reference without going on the web and searching through the threads for it.

That reminds me, I haven't updated my notes for awhile, things have been pretty hectic since April when our son was born. I feel as if I've been in a really long sleep deprivation experiment. Anyway, to get back on track ...

As soon as I hear from Monty on what Damandor would know about any other shrines to Corellon, I'll know if it worth proposing to the group.

Damandor could certainly get a letter from Theriandor identifying you all as pilgrims visiting a distant temple (the nearest is some miles away to the south). Corellon is an oppressed religion here (as are most) so it would still require a successful negotiation and/or bribe to the guards on the gate. As for Grunthor, Flint and Ivan - although they came from outside the city, they are now Lowlifes - they have papers allowing them outside of the foreign quarter. The city makes it relatively easy for the poor to get in to Bastion, but it is harder for them to get out.

I've uploaded a rough map of the city, at least showing the various districts. You can see the map here, or alternatively from my profile if you need to find it again later. Bastion lies between two forks of a river - the upper city is on a high plateau overlooking the other districts (and off limits to all but citizens and slaves). There are only three exits - one to the northeast which is heavily patrolled and only for the use of citizens. The eastern gate, through the foreign quarter, is where most trade and visitors enter and exit from. The western gate is where most of the ordinary folk leave each day to work in the surrounding farms and mines - there are long queues each morning as paperwork is inspected.

To the west is a stretch of hills, almost turning into mountains. Beyond them is the wasteland - a magically cursed and barren land. East is more hospitable country geographically, although it is also where the armies of Bastion concentrate their attacks on surrounding towns, cities and nations. Far to the east and south are the mountains where Ivan and Flint came from.

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

So what does everyone else think of the plan I (Damandor) has proposed. Do we want to go ahead with it, or come up with something else. I don't want to post all the details, 'cause I don't want to tip off our GM. ;-)

(Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1)

Well, it does have a slightly higher chance to work than saying we're tourists, since we actually have a priest of Corellon with us.

(Female awww, but that would be telling Grammarian3/Artist1/Keeper of Useless Knowledge10)

It's the best plan we've got at this point, so I think we should go with it.

(Male Human Programmer 15)

Sounds good to me. GF

OK - you'll soon be ready to leave the city (or attempt to anyway). As mentioned in the game thread, you can purchase any 'usual' supplies without too much trouble from the foreign quarter. You plan on heading up the coast to Sander's Point, correct?

I know it's bogged down a bit, things should be moving again soon though. Flint and Eland, I havent seen you two post for a little while - are you both still around?

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

I'm thinking that I should lead-off on posting our exit from the city since Damandor is the one with the plan. If everyone is ready, including our GM, then I will go ahead and begin posting our attempt at an exit from the city. Let me know if your ready, or if you still need to pick up some supplies.

Monty, if there is anything you need me to know before I post, please let me know.

I'm guessing at this point that we will try and use the western gate, as this is the one used by those of our social position, and also happens to be the direction that we will be traveling in. Also, since where we are suppose to be going is to the south of the city, we could theoretically use either gate.

As for the direction we go in once we leave the city, I would say that we go south long enough to be out of sight of the city, and then head back to the coast and follow the coast to Sander's Point.

Sounds good. I still need to purchase rations and a bedroll for Anyssa. Leading to her being encumbered, which will precipitate my favorite (not really) tactic at the start of every combat. First I drop my pack... :)

Edit: Okay, posted the purchase of supplies. Ready to go whenever.

(Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1)

Sounds good to me. Fortunately, I already bought my rations.

I played a Swashbuckler once and so I'm very familar with the tactic of "I drop everything I'm carrying ... " at the begining of each combat. At least until I was able to boost his strength up a bit.

No doubt you've all noticed, but I am struggling to post every day. End-of-Financial-Year is a hectic time and I can't see things improving in the next few weeks - sorry about that.

If you're all fine with continuing at a slightly slower pace - I'm still keen. However, I'll understand if it's not moving fast enough for you though - just let me know if you'd rather pull out.

No problem, post when you can. Real life takes a whack at us all on occasion, and we just got to roll with the punches. As I said before, I'll be hanging in for the duration.

Well, I don't think I have that many changes to make, all things considered.

(Female awww, but that would be telling Grammarian3/Artist1/Keeper of Useless Knowledge10)

Given that Anyssa is a first level fighter, I doubt there are many changes needing to be made. Same stuff applies here as I mentioned in the other thread.

(Male Elf Cleric 2 (Corellon Lorethian))

Damandor is updated and ready to go.

I'll be unavailable off and on this week with the holiday coming up, but I'll post as often as I can.

Thanks for letting me know. I believe lynora is manic at the moment too, so it may take a little while for the pace to build up to where it was. I'll make sure to check every day and keep things moving.

Yeah, I'm trying to build back up a thread at a time. I'll get to this one soon. So far I'm caught up on two of the five pbp games I'm in. Of course there's no guarantee that things won't get crazy again, but here's hoping.

Permission to take Lesser Orb of Electricity (Complete Arcane) as one of my first level spells? Really, I just want a first level spell I can sneak attack with...

Also, my HP for this level: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

Copied from the main thread:

Anyssa the Clumsy wrote:
Could someone please tell me if I am still wounded and if so how much?

I believe that you are at 2 hp at the current time, but Monty was keeping track of your hp. He did say that you and Grunthor were at zero before Damandor's last channel energy, and that gave you 2 hp.

I've have leveled up Damandor and as soon as I get a chance I will update his profile.

Garret Highhill wrote:

Happy to allow that. However, I no longer have my Complete Arcane book, so you may have to help me out from time to time if the rules are anything tricky.

Ooohhh. A ball of electrcity flying from your hand... Sounds like produce flame for some strange reason... :D

Will make any and all necessary changes, and I'll level up after resting(got to love that rule!).

(Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5)

Damandor's profile is updated with his level 2 stats.
