I'm sorry.. My gut is in knots right now. I'm a knife edge of going to Finals and I can't think of anything else right now.. as much as I want to..
Thanks for your understanding.
We'll be here when you get back! By the exit polls I think you've got a good chance. Good luck, I hope to see you in the top 4. Of course, I like everyone in the top 8, so it's been a hard voting round.

No problem! Can't wait to see your final entry if you make finals! Gratz on making Top 8!!
I can post several times per day, I'd like to keep the game moving at a good clip if possible. I need to know which players can post daily or multiple times per day.

Map is created, and will be posted later tonight. I placed you in areas I thought might be decent.
Future maps should be a bit faster to create since I had to create my hex map from scratch in CAD, I don't have access to my Dundjinni @ work, so, CAD it is.
Nice work on the map. Sorry for slow replies - I guess the time difference can be a bit of a problem, as I was tucked up in bed while everyone else was starting combat!
I'll post my actions in the IC thread but if you need to take control of Solonchak to keep things moving that's not a problem. He's not a combat character - his main focus will be to stand and defend someone like Fenswalder so he can cast spells. If he gets a chance to use his Shield Charge he will do (don't have my book at work so I can't recall exactly what it does ATM).

No Problem, a day per round is to be expected. (which is why I'm throwing out the declaration phase for PbP)

Dig the map.
Can I be on the other side, top part of the map?
(like around J-K, 4-5?)

Do I wait for the others to have an action before rolling Init? and declaring my action?
Do I wait for the others to have an action before rolling Init? and declaring my action?
I'd go ahead and declare what you are going to do, I assume that the Storyteller will post a narrative of what happens in what order or something, but it'll bog down way too much to wait for everyone to post in initiative order.

D is correct. I can narrate, the biggest thing is keeping the game moving, when it slows it dies...I know that from experience.
I have updated my profile with the combat options. (couple still need to be flesh out, but the option is now there.)

What's strain again?
Strain: Some actions cause you to strain yourself thus causing (strain) damage.
In other words there's a slight cost for the benefits. To keep the players from using powerful abilities EVERY turn, like what happens in other dice based games...
When a spell requires a threads, typically it will take two rounds to cast it. (Higher level talents will allow spellcasting plus threadweaving on the same round.)
Some spells require more than 1 thread. Multiple threads CAN be woven in one turn, but the difficulty becomes much more difficult (at the TNs together to get the target TN)
Example: Flame darts has a difficulty of 13 for the thread. And requires two threads. Both threads could be woven at difficulty of 26
(2x13) .
I'm trying to find an old rule we used for pushing a spell, where you take strain to weave threads and cast in the same round.

Is there a skill / talent that let's you attack twice? Like Swift Kick but with a sword?
Dang, I had another question... but I fergit'd it. #sigh
Ah... now I remember:

I feel a lot better about our small party now Glottal Cha is here; he's a one-troll wrecking ball ;) I'm kinda glad he didn't take me to task for my poor artisan check when we met!
What's an artisan check?
Actually Glottal Cha wasn't there when it happened he came in from the brush after that, which is why I didn't bring it up.
Every character has an artisan skill. It looks like yours is tattooing. The cultural rules of Earthdawn are that everyone does some form of artistry to prove they aren't corrupted by horrors. If you have been infected you wouldn't be able to practice this art anymore. We trusted Fenswalder to vouch for your sanity basically, because he proved himself with an artist check, but we never tested you.
I don't think the new books do as good a job of introducing the world as the old ones. The players compendium had a nice introduction and history of the world, and I know it still exists in one of the 4 core books, but I'm not sure where it is anymore.

Yeah, the Players Guide is almost all crunch. Like 8-10 pages of world background. I got the GM's guide but have not had time to read it. I'm rather disappointed that I need to buy more than 1 book to play a game. But I bought all of the Earthdawn 1e book s because I loved the fluff. (I just don't remember much of it now since I never got to play it...) :)
Thanks for the info. :D

Well you don't actually NEED more than the Players Guide until Circle 8 and above. They did specifically split the books back in to two books to cut down the prices to make entry into the game easier to swallow. The redbrick edition was $80 I think, which is why I never bought them...even the PDF version was like $60. Just for player's books. (Redbrick had to license it from FASA so I think that affects how much they need to charge, if it were me, I'd try to charge less to get the book into more people's hands, Earthdawn is an excellent game, always has been, I quit AD&D2e to play Earthdawn, because to me it was a superior game.)
If you still have your 1e books, 99% of it is still applicable, the timeline has only been brought up to the point of Prelude to War. Most of the changes are rules changes. I have Namegivers of Barsaive on the way, in fact it was shipped today!!! Woo!! The player's companion is almost all Discipline related. The Gamemaster's Companion has Horrors, Legendary Weapons and more GM related info.)
Second Attack is available as a skill, as is Second Weapon.

Cool. I'll be going for those.
Sadly, I no longer have my 1e books... :|

When do I declare that I will be using Avoid Blow or Parry? Since they are free actions?
Well you don't actually NEED more than the Players Guide until Circle 8 and above.
While this is true, it relies on the GM to provide the background information on the world from the GM's guide. I think it will be harder for new players to get interested in the game with it lacking a really good introduction to the world.
The sad thing is, I know there is one written. It was in the front of the ED Classic Player's Compendium. I was lucky enough to pick up the two main compendiums + Namegivers and Nations from the classic line. They are big, thick, and expensive, but they were really put together well. I understand the desire to split things into more books to get people started, but if the player's guide is someone's first introduction to the game, they miss out on a lot.

Very true...it's up to us GMs to try to elaborate the world, there's a reason I'm on the demo team also...Plus I'll be running Misguided Ambitions for the demoes. (This same intro adventure, it has a nice little intro on page 9.)
Just catching up on this thread.. I might be rusty too with combat. Please bear with me.
Didn't mean to step on deinol's toes today either! Please forgive me!
The only other time I got to play Earthdawn I had a bad experience. I played a Scout then too and really liked the character. However, the GM let other characters do most of my adept powers seemingly as simple skills. Everybody could track and everybody could move silently.. everything that made the character special could be performed by other characters and it was disappointing. Then the GM quit after the 2nd session. :D
All I could figure is that he was trying to make it easy by getting as much information to the other players as possible to keep it fast paced. The flipside was that I was redundant as a character.
Not that this is what happened here. I just plunged in and jump ahead of another character because I hadn't posted in weeks. This was completely my bad.
I really like setting but this might my first quality experience with it.
I'm not being stealthy or anything, I'm being a brazen foolish tskarang and charging in where he doesn't belong. Of course not being able to see kind of turned my heroic charge into a blind stumble.
I hope this game gives you a better experience than your last one.
PS: looking forward to seeing your superstar pitch.
While at low levels other characters will be able to do a lot of the same things you can do, even without the skill.
However, as you increase in Circle, that gap between Talent and trained skill will widen, and the ability to use Karma will make things much different.
I'm working on my PbP GMing skills, I try to use all five senses whenever I can. I'm getting better heh. My first PbP game was lacking some of those aspects, luckily with a RL Friend in the group that gave me some feedback.
I tend to remember those things, and have moods when I'm GMing face-to-face; I'm always trying to improve my game.
And if you know me, you know I always tweak rules, however, Earthdawn has always been the least tweaked ruleset I've ever used. The only real houserule I'm mulling over is allowing two disciplines to begin if I'm running a game of 3 or less. I also might change Thread Weaving (non-magic) at 2nd Circle, since it's such a pain to not be able to use item threadweaving for several months of gameplay.
As I said in the other thread, I got my Namegivers of Barsaive t'day...I'm very happy!
Some GMs come to it all naturally, but I believe it is a practiced skill. You do literally get better at it the more you do it. Many GMs (myself included) are too hard on themselves in their early games.
I'll have to see if I can track down a copy of Namegivers.. I have one for the last Edition..
As far as my entry.. I'd welcome any comments. I'm not hyping it up too much out of a sense of caution, but I think people are going to love it. Or they're going to hate it. I suppose in that respect it won't be boring!

Rule #1: Don't talk about your entry.
Rule #2: Don't talk about your entry.
heh.
As far as DMing goes, PbP and live are different animals entirely, the pace is so different, luckily I had played several (all died unfortunately) before I attempted to run my own. So far the only PbP game I'm running that has died is my Paranoia game, but, those kind of have a shorter life expectancy anyway.
I hope this game will last awhile, as I said before I'm going to accelerate the game to 4th circle rather quickly, since more powers = more fun, and thread items are really fun.
As we continue I hope to bring more and more of Earthdawn's feel into the game, from Theran Slavers to unspeakable horrors, forays into dead Kaers and Parlainth itself.
Nothing is more terrifying than an Earthdawn dragon...except a corrupted one...

Cool! I look forward to getting into more ED choices/options.
That's one of the things that is a problem with PbP, things do not advance quickly. You don't want to be at 1st level for 6 months...

EXACTLY! it's about accelerating the story. So I will probably award you enough Legend Points to advance to 2nd circle after this, obviously, this is different than normal Earthdawn of course, but in PbP games I want to get to 4th or 5th circle as fast as we can.
