Until convinced otherwise, Grond is going to see Korpi as one of the invaders.

Excellent. It'll make fine RP fodder.

Andoran (Male Human Rogue 2/Paladin 4)

Kyran'll recognize him instantly and keep Grond off of him as much as he's able. Then again, Kyran's a relative weakling when stacked up against Grond or Korpi.

Taldor (Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7)

Fern will continue being creepy.

Quick request of the DM: you've said you're limiting us to two books each. I'd like to make my two books the BoED (I'd like to use the Ranged Smite Evil feat and the Divine Sacrifice spell) and Complete Adventurer (I'd like to use the Devoted Tracker feat; I envision Kyran as a multiclass paladin/ranger). Is this okay?

Depending on how the campaign goes, I may want to use other things from those books as well (mostly spells and feats, I'd imagine), but for now, the two feats and one spell in question are my primary concern. I'm specifically NOT planning on using any prestige classes. I'd much rather build Kyran entirely with paladin and ranger levels. My intention is to have Kyran be something of a holy archer (but still decent with a sword), considering that the longbow is Erastil's favored weapon and that he's referred to as "old deadeye".

Seems reasonable to me. Consider the options approved.

Thank you. :)

I've added some new material to Kyran's flavor text (like his height & weight, family background, and reactions to the other PCs post-battle, but pre-tavern). If any of you are interested, by all means, check it out. If not, well, I've got it for reference. :)

Andoran (Male Human Rogue 2/Paladin 4)

Alpha 3 has hit. Fern, Umlo, and Kyran are affected. I don't think Devrin, Grond, or Korpi are.

Indeed it has. People should feel free to update their sheets, just keep me appraised of any major changes.

Taldor (Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7)

Cool, thanks Timespike. I'll check it out. It seems pretty interesting so far.

Hey Erekose! How's the move going?

Its coming. We're into the new place but we dont move our stuff for another couple of weeks. Just doing some renos now before all our furniture is in place.

(Male Impoverished Student 2/Amateur Chef 3)

Sorry for my posting (or rather, lack thereof) over the last few days. I just started a new job (a new restaurant) and it’s been extraordinarily busy; when I get a break I’m not in a place to do any actual writing. For a while, I’ll only be able to post once a day, if that. Sorry for the inconvenience, hopefully things will quite down a little and my schedule will become a little more predictable within the next few weeks. Please NPC me as necessary.
Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey all, my work schedule is settling down, so hopefully my posting schedule will return to some semblance of normalcy within a week. Thanks for your patience.

I forget, are we using the Fast or Medium advancement rate? If its fast I think we all just leveled.

I'd decided on medium originally, in an effort to compensate somewhat for the large number of players. Granted, we seem to have lost a couple, but I expect I'll put out a call for others as and when the opportunity for an entrance arises.

I'm still not sure what to do with Fern's level.

If I take another level of sorcerer, i learn another 0-level spell, and I get to use Cause Fear once more each day. Hardly the best bang for my buck, so I thought about Multiclassing. A number of possibilities present themselves.

Cleric is a good choice; I was thinking after her brief attempt at desperately trying to save Korpi's life, she may have a vision/visitation from Pharasma. I would giver her the death and healing domains, and it would further round out her 'touch people and control their life force' thing that she already had going. Plus I would get a handful of 0 level spells and some weapon/armour training. Her WIS is too low to cast first level spells, so that's a little tricky. Her high CHA would grant her a nice daily allotment of Channel Energy, however.

Fighter is another choice; I would take Weapon Finesse (as with a STR of 6, she definitely needs it) and focus more on her touch attack powers, while bolstering her fighting abilities (and HP!)

Of course, with a CHA of 20, Bard is also a good choice. I was thinking of making her a dirgesinger; a singer of funerary hymns. Maybe I could focus on the offensive qualities of bardic music. Just a thought!

What do the rest of you think?

I think it better to stick Sorceror. Its not much of a bang at 2nd or 3rd but diluting your caster levels hurts a lot in the long run. I've got a long running 3.5 wizard/fighter/eldritch knight and those two lost levels really hurt his casting ability.

Taldor (Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7)

I see what you're saying, but 'the long run' of a PBP game is very different from a table-top one. It took us 6 months to gain a level. It'll probably take longer to hit the next one. She needs to hit 4th level before she gets a new tier of spells, which may be more than a year away.

The way I see it, in a PBP, it's best to load up on the 'bottom level' of skills and spells, as that makes you more worthwhile as the game plays out.

Andoran (Male Human Rogue 2/Paladin 4)

I'm liking the new paladin rules for lay on hands. Kyran actually winds up ahead of where he'd be under the old ones by 2 points/day. Just call me THE STABILIZER! If you want any real healing, you'll still need to look up the cleric.

Oh, that reminds me, he's leveled, including his Underwhelming Hit Die.TM Oh, well. At least under the new rules for favored classes that means he gets 5 hit points instead of 4...

[Edit: Scratch That. I'm taking the 4 HPs and giving him a rank in Sense Motive instead.]

I spent a skill point raising Diplomacy, one on a rank of Intimidate, one on a rank of Heal, one on a rank of Survival, and the last one went into a rank of Linguistics so I can talk with the dwarves and understand their cryptic bearded mutterings. Kyran's going straight paladin until at least level 4. Once he can cast Divine Sacrifice, I'll think about multiclassing into ranger. Then again, maybe not. Choices, choices.

But we're playtesting. Might it not be better to treat this as a tabletop game?

Fighter might be an interesting choice. Even a single level will give her a nice bump to her hit points, and being able to use a wider variety of weapons is always good. (She's also got a good number of potential teachers; Kyran, Umlo, Korpi, and, to a lesser extent, Grond and Devrin can all teach her to use weapons and/or armor) Even some padded armor is nice at low levels, and she could eventually pick up the arcane armor training/mastery feats from the beta. Weapon finesse and the +1 BAB would certainly give her a boost to hit, and since she's focusing on touch attacks, her less-than-stellar STR score won't be all that much of a detriment. If you stick it out with Sorcerer, though, you'll get a nice bloodline power at level 3. (Cold resistance is nothing to sneeze at. Ever since Frostburn came out, ice magic has been in, you know?)

Speaking of playtesting, that was an awesome first level. Ironically, it seems our worst enemy was gravity, or possibly poor bridge construction (got four of us at once!). I'm quite relived that if Devrin goes down again, I have the means to at least stabilize him now. Other than that, and reiterating that there are some absolutely awesome roleplayers in this little group, I've got nothing. First level of Pathfinder doesn't feel notably different from 3.5 or even 3.0, though I do like the new way of handling skills.

Well, between the cleric, druid and paladin, I daresay we have enough potential sources of healing, though one might as easily say that there's no such thing as too much healing. Looking further down the track, mystic theurge is a distinct possibility, though you'd need 3 levels of cleric and 4 of sorcerer.

Whatever your decision, if you need to do a bit of stat shuffling, I won't object, since it's still early days yet. Interesting that it's the second and third levels of sorcerer that are the stumbling blocks utility wise, though.

Now that we've hit the second level though, what are peoples' opinions on the rate of advancement? Should I kick the progression up to the fast chart?

With the channel divinity stuff and extra turning, Devrin rocks at healing. I'd personally like to move up the advancement rate and love the fact its incorporated in the game system itself. I wonder if we'll advance beyond the pace of the adventure though? Given that it was written for 3.5, we're a lot farther beyond 1000xp though so perhaps not. And never say we'll never get there, this is a great group the best I've found here on these boards. I've been playing pbp for over 6 years now and having seen a few characters get to the mid levels (8-10) I know it is possible with a dedicated group.

Umlo and I are having a great time guys kudos to all. As fo rthe advancement I first thought it was slow, but I would be concerned of out pacing the adventures. We are level 2 where we should be. I would like to try to bump the advancement up as leveling takes a long while, maybe it balances out at the mid and higher levels? The great thing is we can always speed it up or slow it down.

Taldor (Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7)

Of course it doesn't help that we are catapulting ahead in the adventure. I'm fine with any level of pacing, to be honest.

Glassworks? What glasworks?

Indeed. Well, I'll leave it as is for the moment and see how quickly we'd be advancing based on the medium chart. If need be, I can always kick it up a notch. BAM!
