I realize I'm not a spellcaster yet, but Rangers don't have orders. Any suggestions for me? I was thinking something simple and naturalistic, like a fistful of dirt from the immediate locality of where I'm casting..

Mm, it would need to be an item. As a symbol, a twig is emblematic of a greater natural thing. ...so the symbol of a broken twig is going to have pretty opposite significance, I'd say.
It needs to be a twig from an ancient tree, and it needs to be replaced from time to time. There might be bonuses involved if you get the tree to give it up willingly, too...
You've always gotta be difficult, don't you?
Hopefully we'll never end up on a desert planet with no trees. Otherwise, we'll be f$~~ed.

A twig from any world will work. You might even have a collection of them, though I suspect that your regard for nature and personal dignity won't have your character wandering around with dozens of twigs strapped to him in case of emergency.
I'm not saying it HAS to be given up willingly. I'm saying there'll be *bonuses* if you go out of your way to secure 'difficult to acquire' focuses.

We're getting there. The goal is in sight. I'm attempting to get peoples' personal openings done so that we're all on the same page. Ian's is going to be on Monday. I've already handled Ross's.
Everyone else is welcome to e-mail me (or, if you live with me, just poke) and we'll get it going.

Wait, you doing preludes in email or IM or something? If so... lemme know how you want to do this (i.e. have me email you first? We going to go back and forth or are you just sending along some text?) so I can figure out... um... WHEN to do this. :P

Email or IMs, either one, whichever's more convenient. I'm doing Locke's in IMs, I did Ross's by email. Both will work.
Heh. I prefer PbP stuff to be either email or on forums. I like that I can look back and see exactly what happened or how I acted. With IM, I feel like I forget too much.

I use Trillian, which auto-logs all conversations in one single notepad file. I have conversation logs, uninterrupted, from about September of 2006. My old computer went back as far as 2003.
Erm... you DO have my email address, right? It'll be easier, I think, to do things that way as I have no idea when I'll be able to sit down for an IM conversation. Feels like every g!!+n scrap of spare time I have is occupied by something that makes IM impossible or at least inconvenient. But work... it's soooo easy to check email at work, kekeke.

Email me at Luchiadh@gmail.com and we'll get started.
Most of what's happening right now is behind the scenes. Don't give up. Bookmark this thread, ye mighty, if you haven't already. There will be announcements, forthwith!
Still waiting on two more stories to get finished in the prelude so that people are all caught up to the main story. I begin to wonder if preludes weren't a bad idea for a play-by-post game, but we're already into it now, so I'll chalk that up to the future.
I didn't want to just drop everyone into an unfamiliar setting and say 'Go,' though...
Head count! Who's still interested? Raise your hand.

Slowly, we agonizingly wrench ourselves toward the dim, distant goal of campaign-beginning. Leaving trails of e-blood and e-sweat in our blasted wake, we drag ourselves, hollow and withered, into the future.
Larimore and Rakti have met, ICly. The game has officially "commenced," and with the addition of Elan and Coriander (yes, as in Cilantro...! *ducks*), the plot train will be ready to roll into the Outlands and run over it's last two unsuspecting heroes.
We've now moved into an "after the Christmas Season" phase. I had no idea when I started this that I would be dragging out the intros into the New Year. I thought to be well underway by now.
I only have one more to do - Christine's, the Paladin. Once that's done everyone's in the mix.

So, just got the 40k Dark Heresy book recently, and it struck me how this could be a group of acolytes from that setting with surprisingly little tweaking. I mean Larimore *is* a tech priest for god's sake, we'd just need to strap a little more metal onto him. Grundy could be a Guardsman scout from any of a thousand worlds, Bharek would easily transition to being a Divination based Psyker, and Sejah (Christine's paladin) is a natural arbitrator. Even Rakti could be fairly well represented by an assassin with a few minor tweaks. The least translatable is Elan, though I think a Feralworld cleric (or scum depending on how you wanted to interpret him) with a few Psyker powers would do an appreciable job. In fact, I might have to steal the FW scum idea if he doesn't use it...
Anyway, stray thought that I decided to share since this board isn't being used for much else.
Okay, so since we're only waiting on Christine to get the prelude done, I'm going to say that if she's not done by the first of March, we're going to try and get this thing off the ground without her.
Sort of unfortunate, but that's the way it seems to need to go.
Everyone is still apparently checking this page from time to time, so I'm going to assume interest hasn't waned completely.
All preludes are finished! (Finally!)
All opening material is written! (At last!)
We're finally ready to LAUNCH this thing that's been rotting on the vine for eight months!
One last check-in here. Post a reply confirming that you're still on-board. Haven't heard from Zack in a while.
Also, any last minute questions, feel free to post them here or email me at Luchiadh@gmail.com.
Anything. Questions about the world, questions about how things work within it, requests for house-rules if something in the PHB or Dragonstar books doesn't quite add up.
You guys have a great cast of really varied characters, this could rock hard if we can get it off the ground.
Post!
