Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias, Catriana

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

Elias to U7, Scathach to V9.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias and Scathach move into position, as Bren prepares to attack.

Don't forget -5 to attack before he breaks the surface.

Yomi - readied
Bren - readied

Catriana
Flax
Cyrus
Elias

Catriana moves quickly behind the other members of the group, waiting for the horse to get closer.

Move to X9, ready main action

What action are you readying, on what trigger?

Vicious Mockery; When Flax gets out of the water.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Warhorse athletics = 22 before board ate it.

The golden warhorse with its bloodied fey rider charges out of the water, overrunning half the party, but not without price.

Yomi sends a spear of dark light at the eladrin prince, but misses.

Even so, there is more activity at the bottom of the pond.

Lance of Faith vs Ref 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Bren - take readied action against Flax, as well as OAs against Flax and Lionheart, before being trampled.

Catriana - take readied action against Flax, as well as OAs against Flax and Lionheart, before being trampled.

Scathach - take OAs against Flax and Lionheart before being trampled.

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

"AAARRRGHH!" yells Bren, half in rage, half in terror, as Flax's great steed explodes out of the pond.

Readied Action : Reaping Strike

Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

If I miss I do damage equal to my strength mod (+4)

Free Action: if I hit, I activate the terror power of my axe (Flax takes a –2 penalty to all defenses, save ends.)

I also mark him with Combat Challenge.

AOO on Flax:

Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

AOO on Lionheart:

Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

OA Flax
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

OA on his horsie
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Catriana tries to taunt Flax and distract him as he leaps on his horse out of the pond.

Vicious Mockery (vs. Will) (1d20+7=18, 1d6+7=8)
If this hits, Flax will take a -2 penalty to attack rolls till end of my next turn.

Watching the horse literally run over Bren and Scatach towards her, Catriana tries to dodge while slashing at both of them feebly.

AOO vs Flax,Horse:
Flax: 12+3=15, 4+3=7
Horse: 2+3=5

AOO vs Flax, Horse (vs. AC) (2d20+3=17, 1d8+3=7)

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Bren strikes a glancing blow against Flax and then more solid blows against both horse and rider as they rush past; Scathach also claws Lionheart's flank as the golden warhorse overruns the pair. Catriana is less fortunate.

Trample vs Ref: Bren 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12; Scathach 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9; Catriana 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13. Hit all three, I believe.

-12hp to Bren and knocked prone.
-9hp to Scathach and knocked prone.
-13hp to Catriana and knocked prone.

Cyrus
Elias / Scathach - prone

Yomi
Bren - prone
Catriana - prone
Flax - marked by Bren
Ettercaps

Edit for clarity: all the readied attacks missed, so no effects on Flax other than the mark.

Cyrus conjures a 5-foot tall hand made of ice that attempts to grasp at Flax, meanwhile Cyrus retreats slightly towards the mill.
Bigby's Icy Grasp in X11, 1d20+7=12 vs Flax Ref, 2d8+5=13 cold damage and if hit, the hand grabs the target. If the target attempts to escape, the hand uses Cyrus' Reflex defense.
Move to V15

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Cyrus's conjuration flails uselessly around the agile fey.

Elias & Scathach (prone)

DM Pat, just a heads up, but I plan on sustaining Bigby's Icy Grasp, in case you want to put it on the map or I can track it. Not sure if I needed to spend the minor action the same turn I conjured it or not but I had the extra action anyways.

Got it, thanks

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

Move Elias to AA9, Scathach to X10. Minor - Hunter's Quarry on Lionheart. Standard - Beast Latch on Lionheart.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

2d10 + 6 ⇒ (7, 1) + 6 = 14

If it hits, Lionheart is slowed, and if he moves in his next turn, Scathach can shift to remain adjacent to him.

Elias and his cat move with one mind, the predator after the prey, the natural order.

Vs AC, sorry.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias wrote:

Sorry for the delayed reply, but isn't that too many actions, with Scathach starting prone?

I better have Scathach crawl and take a -2 penalty to that roll then.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias sets up his partner to attack the golden warhorse, and even from the ground, Scathach is able to hamper the horse.

With a last, agonized, look at his fallen companion, Yomi moves quickly to continue the encircling of Flax and Lionheart. Invoking the most fearsome power of his goddess, he brings his scythe around, trailing ebon flames, striking a powerful blow and leaving the fey prince aflame. Flax screams in pain, seemingly out of proportion to the damage done.

Avenging Flame on Flax vs AC 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 4d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 2) + 6 = 16. and ongoing 5 fire.

Bren - prone
Catriana - prone

Flax - marked by Bren, 5 ongoing fire (se) / Lionheart - slowed through Elias's turn, and Scathach can shift to follow
Ettercaps
Cyrus
Elias / Scathach - prone
Yomi

Edited: The flank made the difference

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren gets up and rushes at the elf captain.

"This is for what you did to Eglantine, you bastard!"

Minor : drop prone.

Move : to Z8 (attempt to flank with Yomi)

Standard : Reaping Strike on Flax

Attack (with +2 flank) 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
I miss I do damage equal to my strength mod (+4)

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

"And this is how you honor her bargain?" Flax asks, dripping blood from major wounds. "Lunatic that she was, I doubt she'd be pleased."

[ooc]Catriana[/ooc

All

Spoiler:
Travel day today, and all-day meetings Thursday and Friday. Should still be able to post evenings at minimum.

Catriana stands up, aims her wand at Flax and starts chanting aloud. Flax loses his concentration, while Bren is aroused by the chanting to slash once more at Flax's direction.

Blunder (vs. Will) (1d20+7=26, 1d6+7=10)
Slide Flax to , Bren can have a melee basic attack against Flax as a free action with a +4 bonus.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Catriana Windrunner wrote:

Slide Flax where? You can use any of the four horse squares as origin. 4E mounted rules are a bit fuzzy yet. He will get a save to avoid falling off the horse, though.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Bren basic: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 + 4 = 33 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Slide him to AA8

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Flax made his save against falling, then I hit the wrong button.

Flax fumbles the reins and nearly loses his seat. He does not, but the slip gives Bren and opening to further injure him.

The fey leader, severely injured, shouts out, "You may kill me, faithless ones, but I will not die alone!" His bastard sword lets out the eerie howl as he swings it at Bren, but misses. Flax himself howls in pain and outrage.

Howling Strike vs Fort 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 5 = 18.

Save vs fire 1d20 ⇒ 14

One of the ettercaps makes it out of the water.

Ettercap 1 Athletics 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Ettercap 2 Athletics 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

There is more disturbance below.

Cyrus
Elias / Scathach - prone
Yomi
Bren
Catriana
Flax - marked by Bren, bloodied / Lionheart - slowed through Elias's turn, and Scathach can shift to follow
Ettercaps
Black Fey

Move Bigby's Icy Grasp to W11. Attack, 1d20+7=17 vs E2 Reflex, 2d8+5=17 cold damage and the hand grabs the target. If the target attempts to escape, the hand uses Cyrus' Reflex defense.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Hit. Elias.

Catriana calls to Flax: "The woman acted on her own will, and did not represent us in her oath! You are the aggressor here, attacking defenseless villagers for no other reason than your vile bloodlust!"

Bren can shift 1 square if he wants because of Catriana's virtue of cunning power.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Way too tired to move for Elias tonight, so a short grace period.

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

Move - stand Scathach up. Minor - Hunter's Quarry Flax. Melee Basic from Elias

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

1d6 ⇒ 6

Elias shifts his focus and barks a command at Scathach. He slashes at Flax with icy detachment.

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

14 damage to Flax.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias:

Spoiler:
Dead or unconscious?

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

PAT

Spoiler:
Unconscious. YES!

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Flax slumps and falls off his horse, dropping his sword as he collapses.

Yomi delays.
Bren, Catriana

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren cheers Elias' victory.

"Good job, brother!"

Move to V9

Standard: Reaping Strike on e2

Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
If miss I do damage equal to my strength mod (+4)

I mark e2

Catriana pauses for a few seconds, waiting for the battlefield situation to get clearer.

Is Flax's horse still fighting? If not, Catriana will delay till after the black fey

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

The warhorse lashes out feebly as Bren goes by. The fighter scores a glancing blow against the ettercap.

Lionheart OA Kick vs Bren AC 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

In other words, yes.

Catriana

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Oops, didn't count on the horse.

(Female human Rogue 5)

pat512 wrote:

YES!

delay till after the black fey

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

The ettercap struggles madly against the icy grasp, shrieking and chittering, but to no avail. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The other ettercap, seeing its leader fall, tries to dive back down in the pond. Apparently, it signals the black fey, and all vanish back through the portal. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Yomi - delaying
Catriana
Cyrus
Elias / Scathach
Bren
Lionheart
Ettercap - grabbed

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

At the sight of the retreating enemy, Bren laughs haughtily.

"Flee, you black fey cowards! Flee!"

Can Catriana try and take control of Lionheart? Would be a waste to kill such a horse.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

That would be a Nature check

Catriana stops next to Lionheart and tries to calm him.

Used Inspire Competence as minor.
Nature Check (1d20+8=27)

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Under Catriana's calming hands, the flailing warhorse becomes -- if not docile, at least no longer aggressive.

The only enemy left on the field is a rather doomed ettercap. Out of initiative, and Bren can say whether he kills it or lets it go for a swim.

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren ponders the ethical problems of attacking a fleeing enemy for a millisecond, and kills it.
