Not that I think the others might cause a fuss or anything. ;)

Easing herself inconspicuously into the crowd, Eglantine listens to what is being said, trying to pick up clues and see if any of it is relevant to Froderick's problems.

Out of the corner of her eye, she notices Elias and his cat disappear towards the pond and promises herself that she'll be joining them as soon as she's seen what's going on in the pub.

Spoiler:
One of the voices inside the tavern is much deeper than the others, and you overhear why. The fey inside brought a bear with them. An enormous talking bear with a ruff of red fur and a mournful manner. The people all expect the bear to start tearing the tavern apart any minute.

Eglantine smiles. "Such a fuss about a welcome guest!"

Blithely entering the tavern she curtseys to the bear.

"Good day and greetings."

Gonna give Yomi, Cyrus, and Bren more of a chance to respond before following up with Eglantine and Elias

pat512 wrote:

Cyrus is too intrigued by the precious information from Froderick to completely leave the room. He tries to position himself as to be able to see out the door and down the street while staying close enough to hear Froderick's words.

Catriana tries to get Froderick's attention. "It doesn't matter now. Your life is at stake here. Help me to help you get out of here and on with your life", she says desperately.

"How?!" he wails.

"Do you have any means of contacting these fey ? Do you know how to use the pool to get to the feywild ? Have you ever been there ?"

"No -- they always come to me!"

"Do you think anyone else except the fey could kidnap your wife ? Or are you sure it's the fey ?", Catriana asks, clearly losing her patience.

"It must be the fey! Because I didn't run the mill!"

He's had a hard day

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren roughly shoves his way into the tavern.

pat512 wrote:

Yomi is going with Bren to the tavern; a post of mine to that effect disappeared.

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

Poor Froderick. :(

"I don't understand, you said she disappeared then you stoppped running the mill. Why would the fey kidnap her before you had even broken the contract?" Cyrus interjects.

Is that correct or did I miss something?

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Cyrus the Mentalist wrote:

"I don't know why she disappeared the first time. Maybe because of our fight!"

Just so you're aware, some of you have been really badgering the poor guy. If he's losing track of things, it might be a natural response.

Realizing that Frederick is at his breaking point, Cyrus promises him that Cyrus will do his best to acquit him of the murder charges. Then Cyrus heads to the tavern to see what the uproar is about.

Catriana leaves to the tavern as well.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Elias and the big cat move up the path to the woods toward the mill.

Eglantine is first to enter the tavern, with the others close behind.

Several satyrs are in the room, swilling every drink and eating every scrap of food they can find. There is an enormous bear with an astounding black, red, and golden pelt standing in front, talking to the satyrs, seemingly explainin this is a Bad Idea.

When Eglantine enters and curtsies, the satyrs freeze, but the bear turns around. "Hello, Miss, you shouldn't be here." it says in a very deep voice.

MAP - also linked from my profile.

The cluster of 'b's is the bear; s1-s5 are satyrs. Tan is tables, ^ is difficult terrain (chairs, overturned tables). Around the perimeter are 'd'oors, 'w'indows, and a 'f'ire'p'lace and a 'l'adder.
DC13 Athletics or Acrobatics to get on top of a table, otherwise just difficult terrain.

We'll enter initiative if and when someone makes an attack, and that individual will go first. If y'all do other things first, make relevant skill rolls.

Catriana enters the tavern with a smile on her face. Addressing the satyrs and bears, she ignores the mess in the room : "Hail, Friends. What brings you all to this fine establishment ?". During her entrance, she strums her harp to try to relax the situation a bit.

The satyrs look to one another, then the nearest one answers, "The drink! Want some?" He holds out, somewhat unsteadily, a mug of what is probably ale.

"Of course friend ! Thank you for your most kindly offer". Lafiel takes the mug from the satyr and drinks a bit. "Where have you good travelers come from, and where are you headed ?" She asks the satyrs, while still playing some simple tunes on her harp.

"We're headed right here -- here's where the ale is!" He answers, to hoots and cheers from his companions. "Say . . ." he adds, leering at Catriana, "You're almost one of us. Why don't you drink that and join us for more?" He sniggers EDIT, let's make that 'snickers', clearly half in the bottle already. The bear just shakes its huge head.

Let's give the others a turn, not everyone's by their computer tonight

"A private party? Then of course we won't intrude. My apologies... although, perhaps a little entertainment would be in order?"

Eglantine rolls up her sleeves to show there's nothing hidden up them, pulls three soft square scarves from the top of her boots and begins to juggle. She smiles at the assembled company.

"Scarves are easy of course, but they look pretty. This is my trade, I never miss an opportunity to hone my skills with a new audience."

Insight to see if she can assess the mood of the group in the inn. 1d20+6=20

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren's eyes go wide with astonishment. He doesn't know what to make of the surreal scene. When Catriana and Eglantine speak he quickly realizes the wisdom of their approach. He exits the tavern and confronts the villagers.

"Hey, nothing to see here! Just a private party going on. We travel their woods and chop their trees. Why can't they come and drink our ale? Go home!"

Lafiel? That's a familiar name ;)

Eglantine:

Spoiler:
The satyrs are just a bunch of toughs who've come in to steal the food and booze, just like it appears, though the presence of attractive women could lead to more problems, especially for Catriana. They're mostly drunk already. The bear is sober, but unaggressive. You realize th satyrs are going to take the tavern’s food anyway, so you might consider using it as a gift or bribery (satyrs love strong drink). You might be able to bribe them to leave with something stronger than ale (gaining a bonus to a follow-up Diplomacy attempt).

Bren wrote:

"Easy for you to say!" shouts back a thin, red-faced man, wearing an apron. "Who's going to pay for this?"

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren considers this for a moment. The apparent solution makes him wince.

"I will. I'll pay for the food and drink you're losing. As well as damages. You have Bren Wurwold's word on it."

"Apparently, he is paying." Yomi points to Bren. "But perhaps you can give a discount...."

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Bren nods in appreciation of Yomi's save.

"I'll pay for the food at cost. We're all losing out today."

"A very big discount, indeed." Yomi adds.

"Oh and a bottle of chianti to go."

(Female human Rogue 5)

Moving swiftly to the bar as she juggles, Eglantine continues her patter.

"What do I see? I see fine brandy, fine liqueurs, I see juices of all sorts, I see ... do I see pork scratchings?"

As she names the items she picks them up and starts throwing them deftly to the satyrs.

Finally she does an elegant handspring to the top of the bar. "You know, it's a beautiful day. What on earth are you doing inside? You could take these entirely delightful, wholesome and worthwhile substances and go and picnic in the woods"

Springing upright again, she juggles bottles of champagne and calls to Catriana "Dear friend, some music if you please to help our good friends celebrate their good fortune and to dance them on their way. See sirs? Your very presence inspires me to new heights of performance - champagne anyone?"

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Eglantine Prakseda wrote:
"Your very presence inspires me to new heights of performance - champagne anyone?"

You might be being a bit a bit ambitious -- ale and barley wine are more likely the main drinks available, though so far the satyrs are focused on ale.

Catriana:

Spoiler:
You realize you might be in some particular hazard here, and Eglantine to a lesser extent. The English word "satyriasis" has a meaningful origin.

EDIT: Diplomacy check from Eglantine?
Cyrus, anything?

Diplomacy 1d20+4=22

"Ah - let me not mislead you! Not champagne at all! Cider of a sparkling and frothy vintage. So much better!"

Spoiler:

If she thinks she can get away with it, she'll palm her dagger during all these shenanigans in case she needs to make a run for it to get Catriana out of there in a hurry.

Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

Diplomacy check from Bren would also be in order -- if Yomi wants to assist, he (Yomi) would be at a bit of a penalty at the moment

(Male Human Fighter 5 (Great Weapon Fighter))

Diplomacy: 1d20+2=13

(Female human Rogue 5)

Bluff check to try and palm the dagger. 1d20+9=22

If it fails, she'll pick cutlery and juggle with that as a distraction.

She isn't good at much, but what she can do, she does well! Hopefully well enough.

Elias and Scathach:

Spoiler:
The walk to the mill takes about 10 minutes.

The mill has an enormous wooden wheel in the millrace, though the black and muddy wheel is not turning. The millhouse itself has a slate roof, and shuttered windows. Its exterior walls are made of large limestone blocks and a few pale yellow bricks.

A rickety set of wooden stairs leads up to an iron-studded door of black walnut (locked, DC 25 Thievery). There are no windows at the half-cellar level, arrow loops at the main floor, and shuttered windows at the top.

(M Elf Ranger (beastmaster) 4)

DM

Spoiler:
Elias looks over the door and reckons one of his friends might stand a better chance of opening it. Gesturing to his companion, he makes for the mill pond and looks over it for any clues.

** spoiler omitted **

Spoiler:
The waters of the pond are green and opaque (algae, not magic). Dragonflies buzz around, and you know people fish here.
Taldor (M Human Expert 7)

The satyrs cheer at Eglantine's antics, and offer her more ale. The bear applauds and laughs, a rather frightening sound.

Catriana answers : "Of course, some music for these fine friends !" and starts playing her harp in a fast-paced simple tune. Moving back to the entrance, Catriana calls the satyrs the the bear to follow her, in Elvish: "Come, my friends, let us go picnic outside in the forest, where satyrs and bears and elves belong !".

If Catriana feels they would follow her, she leads them outside.
If they would lead the way theirselves, she'll follow.
If they don't want to leave yet, Catriana will stay next to the entrance.
