The stairs are just as you left them. There is still a closed door at the bottom of the stairs.

Nobody wants to stop you.

I am firmly of the belief that Mitnal is a kind of mad, innocent force of nature, an unseen hand steers him nd everything is going to be okay.

You should check out Rall in the other PbP. He's a jaded urban lad and the dice almost always roll against him.

If Mitnal makes it to the bottom of the stairs, he'll throw open the door. ... I will be offline this weekend. Do you need any reflex saves now?

Mitnal throws open the door at the bottom of the stairs but there is no one behind it.

There is a large table, some chairs, and a large black slate board on the wall across from the stairs which has a map of Sandpoint drawn on it with notes describing points of attack.

There are voices coming from the door on the other side of the table (i.e. on the west wall). There is another door south of the door that Mitnal has just opened (i.e. on the east wall). The room is fifteen feet east to west and twenty feet long north to south.

"Ah-hah!" says Mitnal as if this cleared something up.

(Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana)

"Shhh!" Jessa admonishes the big Shoanti, "There's voices through that way. Maybe more goblins. But by the signs of the map on that board, we may be getting close to Nualia! Kenzo? See if you can hear anything..."

Even as Jessa speaks, Blackwing moves to accompany the monk.

Perception check for Blackwing... 1d20+6 = 16

I dither, but at least I do so quietly.

(Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3)

Mitnal pointedly ignores Jeslara and studies the map. He moves some of his sling stones around on it as if playing a war game.

Mitnal wrote:

The map is hanging on the wall, drawn as it is on the slate-board. Moving stones on it is made difficult by gravities insistence on trying to play too.

Blackwing hears voices through the door (as does everyone else). The main voice talking is that of a woman (giving orders).

(Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana)

With a startled flapping, Blackwing darts back to Jessa's outstretched arm and then walks up to her shoulder to whisper in her ear. The wizardess immediately gestures at the others to silently call their attention to the door.

"There's a woman giving orders in the next room," she tells them, "And it doesn't sound like a goblin. This could be it! Get ready!"

Jessa puts her hands on her hips and glares at the barbarian with a you'll-pay-for-that-comment-later look.

(Male Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Celestial Bloodline) 4)

I look from Mitnal to Jessa, shake my head derisively and turn to Kenzo and Eugen: "It looks like just the three of us to stop Nualia then."

I walk over to the door and put my hand on the handle, then wait for the gang to position themselves.

"Hurry will you, you big oaf," Gyorgy hears through the door, followed by some indistinct words and "Where is that man?"

(Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3)

DM Wicht wrote:

Mitnal smiles at Jeslara, and stands to the left of the door, hammer raised.

I position myself right behind Gyorgy. We exchange a brief glance and then quietly exchange places. I open the door.

Eugen opens the door revealing a room littered with scrolls, parchments, and packing crates. A familiar looking dark-haired woman, on the other side of a large table looks up, an angry retort dying on her lips as she realizes Eugen is not whom she was expecting. The bugbear who is sullenly helping her pack things into crates begins growling in delight.

Surprise round. There is a large table that will prevent any charges at either opponent. The room is ten feet wide, east to west and fifteen feet long, north to south.

I run in and dash to the side to let everyone else get in.

initiative and MM (1d20+7=20, 2d4+2=4)

Mitnal, realizing he hadn't properly explained his 'let's hide behind the door and hit them when they come to see why it mysteriously opened' plan to the rest of them, will now run in and head towards the bugbear.

Can Mitnal reach the bugbear within his move action?

(Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana)

Jessa lingers behind the others with Gyorgy, trying to analyze what...and who...they're up against. A slight frown of disappointment crosses her face when she sees only a bugbear and the woman. Somehow, the girl looks vaguely familiar, but Jessa gets the sense they haven't found Nualia.

Initiative check... 1d20+3 = 9

Seeing Mitnal charge headlong at the bugbear, Jessa quickly tries to aid him by dulling the beast's senses and hopefully slowing him down.

"Bedezerine!" she calls out with a gesture in his direction.

Casting daze (DC 14) at the bugbear.

Initiative:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Mitnal moves around the table to the right, closing with the bugbear. Which means that if Eugen wants to get into the fight he'll have to go around the table to the left or else jump on top of it. Gyorgy's magic missile strikes the dark skinned woman, whom he suddenly recognizes as having been at the Rusty Dragon just a couple of nights previously.

Bugbear Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Woman's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Bugbear Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Beauty and the Beast - Round 1
Bruthazmus: Initiative - 22
Gyorgy: Initiative - 20
Lyrie: Initiative - 12
Jeslara: Initiative - 9
Mitnal: Initiative - 8
Kenzo: Initiative - ?
Eugen: Initiative - ?

I need an initiative from Eugen and if possible from Kenzo. Gyorgy can gp ahead and post an action - the bugbear will be attacking Mitnal unless Eugen beats a 22 and then manages to do something fairly spectacular.

(Male Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Celestial Bloodline) 4)

"You, you streak of misery. What are you doing here?"

I point an accusing finger at the woman.

Then in a moment of hot-headedness I move swiftly toward her, leap on the table...
acrobatics (1d20+6=21)
and attempt to wrestle her to the ground.
second acrobatics check (if needed) and grapple. If this is possible? (1d20+6=24, 1d20+11=14)

(Male Human Fighter 1)

Initiative: 1d20 = 12 + 6 = 18

I take the earliest opportunity to go after the bugbear with Mitnal.

The bugbear roars out an angry profanity as Mitnal moves in next to him. Reaching for the heavy flail attached to his belt he swings it viciously towards the large barbarian.

Bugbear attacks Mitnal 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Mitnal evades the blow and it hits the table with a resounding crack.

Gyorgy moves swiftly around the table and tries to begin wrestling with the woman but she manages to shove hime away with ease.

Gyorgy's +11 CMB is, I presume, the result of a stuttering sort of typo as it should, I believe, be a +1 (unless I am missing something obvious that adds an extra +10 to his ability to grapple).

Eugen, considering his options, realizes that to help Mitnal against the Bugbear he will either need a very long spear or he will need to hop up on the table.

Quick question before I post Jessa's action. I thought the bugbear failed his Will save against the daze spell Jessa cast in the surprise round. Wouldn't that prevent him from acting this round? If not, I'll probably hit him again with it and count on Gyorgy to tangle with the girl. But if the bugbear is occupied this round, I think Jessa would try and help Gyrogy instead.

I think I must have been confused by a new rule - that tends to happen to me.

(Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3)

Mitnal howls in delight as he raises his hammer and his klar. He cuts across with his klar and then tries to strike down withg his hammer.

Melee Warhammer 1d20 + 31d8 + 2 ⇒ (19) + (5, 6, 2, 4, 2, 3, 7, 3, 2, 7, 5, 5, 8, 4, 4, 5, 7, 2, 3, 5, 5, 3, 6, 3, 6, 5, 6, 2, 2, 8, 4) + 2 = 160
Klar 1d20 + 11d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + (3, 5, 5, 1, 1, 4, 5, 1, 6, 5, 1) + 2 = 44

WHOOPS. I better check that and try again. Ignore the above. I used a comma instead of a semi-colon.

Oops. I blame the lag between the spell and the beginning of the round. The bugbear was in fact dazed. He wanted to swing at Mitnal and miss but could not...

"Silly man," says the dark skinned woman, Lyrie. Grasping a rod she points it at Gyorgy while evading his outstretched hands. "Dwxjkl!" she intones and two red balls of force fly from the tip of the wand and unerringly strike Gyorgy in the chest.

Damage to Gyorgy: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9

Need Eugen's action I believe...

Mitnal's warhammer strikes a glancing blow.

(Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana)

In that case...

Jessa summons forth her dagger and sends it to aid Gyorgy against the girl, making a quick slash to keep her occupied.

Melee attack with dagger using hand of the acolyte... 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage, if necessary... 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Need Eugen's action I believe...

I jump up on the table and attack the bugbear:

attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

do i need to roll something for the jump? just in case:

1d20 ⇒ 9

Jessa's dagger slices at the spell caster, throwing her somewhat off balance. Mitnal strikes the bugbear a glancing blow and Eugen ackwardly clambers up onto the table (which wobbles a bit) and brings his sword down at the bugbear, clipping an ear.

Gyorgy and Eugen up. Eugen fears that the table may not hold him for long. He can, if he chooses, jump down between the bugbear and the spell caster.

(Male Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Celestial Bloodline) 4)

"Ow, damnit!"

I try to disarm the woman.

I'm really not very good at this

(Male Human Fighter 1)

Eugen fears that the table may not hold him for long. He can, if he chooses, jump down between the bugbear and the spell caster.

I jump down, trying to time myself so as to put my weight into another swing at the bugbear.

"nice duck, mitnal! ah! oops!"

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

"Stupid men," says Lyrie as Eugen jumps next to her. But she continues to focus her attention on Gyorgy. "Dwxjkl," she repeats again and two more magic missiles fly out and strike Gyorgy who very nearly succeeded in grabbing her arm.

Damage to Gyorgy: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9

Gyorgy feels the magical force slam into him, stealing his breath, wracking havoc with his muscles. He suspects he is very close to passing out.

(Male Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Celestial Bloodline) 4)

I yell out in pain and fear, truly realising for the first time how dangerous this adventuring lark is.

Jessa, Mitnal and Kenzo/sub-kenzo can all act.

(Female Human Wizard (Diviner) 2 / Cleric 1 of Sivhana)

"Kenzo! Help Gyorgy!" Jessa calls out, "Mitnal and Eugen can handle the bugbear..."

While the monk leaps to Gyorgy's aid, she focuses her powers once more on the dangerous monster.

"Bedezerine!"

Casting daze (DC 14) at the bugbear again to try and keep him pinned down.

(Male Human of the Shoanti Shriikirri-Quah Tribe Barbarian 3)

Mitnal makes doggie sounds at the bugbear, "C'm 'ere doggie. Good boy."

He attacks with his klar and warhammer once again:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Mitnal misses the bugbear, who hisses, something like a snake as it prepares to counter.

Will Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

The bugbear pauses in mid-swing, somewhat confused as Jessa's spell dazes it.

To recap: Kenzo enters the room but doesn't see an opening for an attack. Gyorgy is on his last legs, overcome by force damage. The bugbear is dazed. On the west side of the table the order of combatants is: Gyorgy, Lyrie, Eugen, Bruthazmus, and then Mitnal. Kenzo and Jessa are by the door. Gyorgy and Eugen can act...

Would it be possible for Kenzo to "squeeze" past his allies and/or Tumble to Gyorgy's aid?

(Male Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Celestial Bloodline) 4)

I stagger backwards until my back is pressed to the wall.

Gasping for breath, I heave in big sighs and try to ward off the pain and waves of nausea.
