Tomb of the Emperor Gods -- PbP
Game Master
Tarren Dei
This PbP started with Entombed with the Pharaohs and continues with The Pact Stone Pyramid. Many of the characters travelled to Osirion after completing a PbP based on River into Darkness.
His face turning redder by the second as he contemplates his enemies getting closer and closer to laying their filthy infidel hands on the Holy Treasures Korian finally explodes "Are you all mad! Have you forgotten why we are here?! Every second we delay puts the relics of the ancients at further risk! We Must find and Kill our enemies before they can despoil this temple further! When, and Only when we safely recover the relics then we can make our way out of this place! Now we go!" And without waiting, the furious mage turns and makes his way down the southern corridor, his dancing lights moving along with him.
Although raging he is not a complete fool however and if the others move to catch up to him he will slow to allow them to resume their previous positions.
haha Fun! =D
Ixius(Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4)
Ixius shrugs and follows Koran. "I guess we have to find another way out."
Still fuming Korian points to the north tunnel saying "She said not to go That way, so we won't." Although his skills are not equal to the Dwarf's, until he decides to retake the lead, Korian will do the best he can using his own not insignificant skill in looking for traps. Every once in a while he commands Jinx to scamper down and sniff around to make sure they are on the right trail.

Asim Hassona(Male Human Living Monolith 1 Fighter 5)
Asim sighs and shakes his head at Korian's rant, knowing that he is both right and also wrong. He resumes his position at the fore and pushes on down the corridor after him.
I can't wait for Jinx to see all 4 Runes before us and turn into Mummy Jinx... ;)

If you think I won't stat that up and send it at you, you don't know me.
The tunnel south continues for about 30' and then turns east. The room in front of you is covered floor to ceiling (and then across the ceiling) with hieroglyphs in tight rows, divided by lines, obviously forming a series of texts.
If you choose to read them, I'll be needing linguistics checks and a knowledge (architecture and engineering) check. Is knowledge (architecture and engineering) unchanged from 3.5?

Other than a name change to knowledge (engineering), I don't see any changes in the rulebooks. That's just a five-minute perusal, though.
Under his breath, Ovirid says, "Ah'm fer guessin' we cannae be stoppin' t' check fer useful information." He will glance at the hieroglyphics, anyway, until Korian moves the procession on. Even though he's not in the lead, he's still checking for traps as he comes to a new area. He really hopes the hotheaded mage doesn't get himself killed, but he can't trust the theory that the mage made it past an area means it is safe for those that follow.
The elemental finally giving up on trying to get out this way begins to follow into the darkness where the rest of the group disappeared off to. Reaching the 'T' in the corridor she hears the noises and see the light from the others.
Tarren:
Spoiler:
Since she has already seen the 4 symbols to the north she decides she might as well float down there and see if there is anything worth the party going that direction for. Hehe, look a GM's dream come true, splitting up the party. Of course, Sykala has always been terrible about staying with the party.

Tarren:** spoiler omitted **
Make a perception check, Sykala.
Ixius(Male Human (Taldan/Osirioni) Rogue 3/Sorcerer 4)
Ixius stays with Ovirid, waiting for him to check for traps before he proceeds further.
Asim takes a moment to examine the walls in wonder at the intricate designs.
Asim can't make much sense of the ancient hieroglyphs but does identify one section as containing hieroglyphs often used in mathematics in modern Osirion.
Despite his burning need for haste, the knowledge seeking mage can't help himself but to stop a take a quick perusal of the hieroglyphs. As mumbling under his breath as well he says "Hmph, well, since they're all going to stop anyway..."
Knowledge (engineering):1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Linguistics: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 (just to double-check, did any of the auction items give us a bonus on Linguistics checks as well?)
Ooops, forgot Korian's rogue bonus, he's actually got +11 vs traps. And just a thought here but, as we have Three rogues in the group, couldn't and shouldn't we be aiding each other on these checks? All together we should beat Any trap! Go-Go Rogue Power! ;-)
The first section that Korian deciphers describes the military victories of the pharoahs. It also explains that one of the pharoah's, The Fiend Pharoah, Hetshepsu attempted to betray the others, breaking their mystic bond and cursing them all. The text seems to imply that the pharoahs would never have died if this bond had not been broken It ends with a line from a different script reading "and he was given the number that befits the traitor".
Deciphering that section takes about 5 minutes. There are four other sections. Do you want to try another? Pick a number.
She casts light so she can see color. This, of course, causes the light she cast on Asim's handaxe to go out. Oh, and where does the hallway go from here?
Gnashing his teeth with frustration, Korian is nevertheless fascinated with this history of his people. Hoping that his enemies also delayed to read the texts, Korian turns to his companions before continuing
"Number of the traitor? I am not sure what that is, do any of you have an idea?" and racking his brain, Korian tries to figure it out himself as well.

You have no idea what the number of the traitor may be. You do know that one of the four pharoahs was obsessed with numerology and is now known as the Pharoah of Numbers.
Korian pulls out his everburning torch and finds somewhere to wedge it for the moment. While he waits for the other's opinions he reloads his crossbow and picks up the torch again.
Seeing Korian relent on his pursuit of the other party, Ovirid stops to participate in the study.
Knowledge (History) 1d20 + 12 +6 bonus for information regarding pharaohs
Linguistics 1d20 + 8
Ovirid can't add much to the discussion except to note that this pyramid began before the betrayal of the Fiend Pharoah was known and was completed after the bond that joined and protected the pharoahs was broken.
Asim Hassona(Male Human Living Monolith 1 Fighter 5)
"I cannot read this text, but the architecture here is often used nowadays to aid in mathematical calculations." He blinks and tenses suddenly as the light on his axe goes out, but soon relaxes after no threats become apparent.
"I think I'll stand guard while the rest of you figure out what we're looking at here," he says as he moves to the door and stands with his Double Axe at the ready.
Korian continues on deciphering the other sections, he does 1, 2 & 4, his instincts telling him to skip #3. He compares notes with Ovirid and any others who are interested.

No idea on the smell thing. She dowses her light and then will go up to the corner and see how far the hall way goes and then return to the others. Not really planning on going out of sight from where they are currently.

The first panel Korian deciphers contains the mathematical formulas. Korian soon recognizes that the math works off a base-11 number system. Once he figures that out, deciphering it gets much easier. The section describes the movements of the planet Aucturn, which becomes aligned with Golarion every 56 years. The Pharoah of Numbers predicts that in a certain year, the alignment will be so precise that a door can be opened between the two worlds allowing 'The Whisperers of Secrets' to cross over.
The second panel that Korian deciphers warns of the encircled runes. The encircled runes, it says, are the symbols of the four pharoahs. Korian knows these symbols to be the hieroglyphs for subjugation, desert, fealty, and reckoning. You have not seen any of these hieroglyphs yet to the best of your knowledge. It cautions that those who intend to rob the tombs of the greatest of all Osirion's pharoahs will find themselves its guardians upon seeing the fourth rune.
The last panel that Korian deciphers speaks again about Aucturn but with much greater enthusiasm. It describes the rapture of being spoken to by those beings who visited Golarion once before to prepare the way for their mightiest of lords. It also describes their mode of transportation as being a gate powered by elemental energy.
In the northwest corner of the hall, Sykala finds an open shaft that goes up and down. To the west, the hall continues only a little bit before stopping at a door. On the floor, Sykala sees a small pot of blackish ink and a thick brush.
Turning to his Dwarven friend Korian asks "So what think you, dare we go ahead and translate the final one as well? Or count ourselves lucky with what we have already learned?"

"Ah'm fer thinkin' th' more we know, th' better we c'n be ready fer what yer pyramid is t' be fer throwin' at us."
Linguistics 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17aid another for the last panel, if Korian proceeds
Knowledge (history) 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13+6 for questions regarding pharoahs, if Korian proceeds
And Ovirid's over his anger at the mage now, so he will take point again as they leave the chamber, if someone doesn't beat him to it.
EDIT: And he asked if I needed proof whether I was unlucky or not. Another 1!
The last section of text details the greatness of the pharoahs. It contains many stories about the pharoahs' lives. One passage reads "and those who would open the tomb need serve she who is shown in the stone, a true descendent of the Pharoahs" followed by an image that looks similar to the statuette with Lonicera/Neferet's face that you saw in the auction and at the Crook Bearer's house. Korian easily detects this section as being illusory and can read the rather mundane text behind it.
Korian reads the remaining text and shares his findings. After casting Detect Magic and doing a final careful check to see if there is anything else hidden, with a small smile he nods for Ovirid to proceed.
Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
As they walk he muses aloud "So that is why they needed Neferet along...could it truly be possible that she is a prisoner in truth now?...Blast! Curse that woman for invading my thoughts and marring my thinking!"

Ovirid will lead the way forward, checking for traps and watching for ambushes. So are we able to read the spoiler? Inquiring dwarves want to know.
Ovirid is ready to move down the hallway, checking for traps and ambushes as he goes. Having finally been clued in regarding the danger of the runes, if he sees something out of the corner of his eye that he suspects is a rune, he will consciously not look at it. Hmm... perhaps we should investigate how to cover these suspected runes. Any ideas? Prestidigitation to cover them with mud using the "dirty" aspect of the spell?

This is worth discussing. From the warning you read, you know that if anyone sees all four runes they become a guardian of this place. You also know that the runes are cleverly hidden. How can you protect your party?
So, essentially, How can we 'see' the runes, or at least Know where they are, without Seeing them? Tarren, was there anything mentioned about seeing the runes is 'reverse' as in a mirror, say waling backwards?? Or maybe one person Only looks at the floor for traps, another only at the walls...? Finally, was Jinx able to tell by scent how far behind the Others we are?
Ok, assuming you all fill Sykala in on the info you discovered. Tarren, do any of these runes she was looking at down the northern passage match any of the 4 bad runes?
