It sounds like we are made up then. If we are to travel buy road, might I suggest a couple of pack animals to carry various pieces of equipment we might need, such as rope, food, tents, etc? How far did you say the caves where by land?

"I can make arrangements all such things by midday tomorrow. The trip up the road should be 4 days, assuming the weather holds and you get into no... difficulties... on the way." Canayven winks, apparently under the impression that "difficulties" are good things.

Let me know any last minute arrangements you want to make before you leave Magnimar, because otherwise, we're moving out!

Any mundane gear you wish to purchase is easily available in Magnimar. A shopping trip in the morning can supply you with pretty much whatever you need, as long as you can afford it.

Mozzel Ann goes back to the cottage, jumps up onto her slightly too big bed, and goes to sleep in preparation for the coming day, while thinking about what Kaeryta's hair would look like in hot pink and the chances of talking Ar'dreth into putting on a magic show for her.

I'll be out of town for thanksgiving (and away from the interwebs till Friday and non-magical elf sleep seems to be optionalish? :P

Therin is as ready for the trip as thinks he can be, though in the morning before he sets out he will pick up some more rope and pitons. It pays to be ready for whatever climb may be ahead of them after all. Beyond that, he will wish his hosts a good night and head to sleep, much more quiet then normal jovial self.


Corath will prepare speak with animals so he can explain to Prettykill she will be able to walk on the cliff.

Probably no need for that till you get there - you have three days' travel ahead of you first. It's up to you, however.

With preparations well in hand, the party regroups late the following morning to set out. Kaertya, unfortunately, seems to have contracted some traveler's ill, and decides to stay at the Lodge until she recovers - if she gets better soon, she promises to catch up, and otherwise will see you upon your return. The remainder of the newly-arrived Pathfinders are seen to the gates by a cheerful and excited Sir Canayven, who hands over the reins to two laden pack mules and the two promised scrolls of spider climb and bids you an enthusiastic farewell.

Two days of travel up the Lost Coast road pass fairly swiftly, and you are pleased to spend the night in the relative comfort of an inn in a little town called Sandpoint. On the third day, however, you leave the settled territory at the edge of Varisia and begin to cross the truly wild country, low hills and thick forests wrapped in fog and broken only occasionally by a small farmstead or tiny fishing village.

Corath's head suddenly snaps up in surprise. At seemingly the same instant, several small figures burst from the forest just off the road: humanoid figures the size of human children, with blue-grey skin and heads grotesquely wide to accommodate over-broad mouths full of too many teeth. Head snapping foward with jaws open wide, Prettykill attacks the small, strange humanoid that standing before her.

Seeing Ar'deth out numbered, Corath roars and charges one of the goblins, swinging a club at it's head.

I think it is my turn now...could you post the initiative list just to make sure we do it in the right order.

Rufus draws an aim at the mount of the apparent leader of the attacking humanoids, holding his breath and waiting for the right moment to let the arrow fly.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6; 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

I assume the mounted goblin is adjacent to the pack animal, so I'm taking -4 to hit. If that isn't the case, my attack roll is 4 higher. I assume it is at -2 AC because of the charge.

He then orders Brune to attack one of the creatures attacking Ar'deth. As a brown blur, Brune goes for the creature's throat.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11; 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4


On My Initiative:

As the Goblins surround him, Ar'dreth chants a quick incantation while posed defensively with his sword drawn.

Cast Mage Armor on the defensive DC 17: Concentration 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
AC will be 17, Flat-Footed 14.

Just to let you know what I intend to do when my turn comes up:

Therin will bring out his rapier and short sword and then advance to try and get into position for a flank next turn if possible. If this requires tumbling, that is fine. If I can't really get into flanking position, I'll just get as close as I can.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Acrobatics if needed

Don't have a +1 BaB yet, so I have to draw seperate from a move action, but with Two-Weapon fighting I think I can pull out both weapons at once.


Corath's blow knocks several of the goblin's teeth out and sends blood everywhere, but Prettykill seems badly shaken up by her wound, and cannot manage to sink her teeth into her attacker.

The chieftain wheels around, keening a strange, singsong warcry, and charges again, lashing out once more at the mule. Charging halberd attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26; damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4. He continues back up the road, wheeling around once more to face the group as he does so.

Rufus aims an arrow at the mounted warrior, but it goes wide (even with the charge and the fact that the chieftain isn't actually in melee at this point), while Brune tries and fails to find some purchase with his teeth in a goblin's flesh. Note: commanding Brune to attack is a move action, at least until he becomes an animal companion, and requires a DC 10 Handle Animal check (assuming he's trained for combat), with a +2 DC if he's wounded at all. It doesn't matter at this point, because he missed anyway, but it might come up again later.

Mozzel is up.

It's actually your turn now. ;)

Mozzel begins an inspiring chant (the specifics of which are still to come), filling her allies with courage.

Therin moves up to flank the goblin opposite Prettykill - that being the only one he can get to in a single move action.

The goblins raise their weapons and swing wildly. Covered in blood, Corath's opponent nonetheless finds the strength to slash at him twice: first dogslicer attack 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17, damage 1d4 ⇒ 1; second dogslicer attack 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (17) - 6 = 11, damage 1d4 ⇒ 4. On the other side of Ar'dreth, the goblin fending off Brune squeals in fury and unleashes a pair of poorly aimed blows as well: first dogslicer attack 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2, damage 1d4 ⇒ 4; second dogslicer attack 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (16) - 6 = 10, damage 1d4 ⇒ 4. And, apparently finding Therin a less intimidating target than Prettykill, the goblin caught between the rogue and the dinosaur turns its attacks on him: first dogslicer attack 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17, damage 1d4 ⇒ 2; crit confirm 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18, crit damage 1d4 ⇒ 4; second dogslicer attack 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (17) - 6 = 11, damage 1d4 ⇒ 2. Though they manage a blizzard of attacks, only Therin is struck, and then it seems to be more luck than anything else, even if the blow is severe (total of 6 hp).

Corath and Prettykill are up. Prettykill has a flanking bonus - Corath may delay until Ar'dreth draws his longsword if he likes, in order to get a flanking bonus as well.

This is your first PbP, isn't it? In my experience, we're actually making pretty good progress. This is just the pace that PbPs run at. (shrug)


Yeah, like any non-wizard half-orc I play is going to wait in combat. ;)

First PbP here, but played some PbP on the new dead www.redspirepress.com, with the creator of the Dark Legacies setting. Went a mite faster. But if you are satisfied with the speed, I won't complain :)

Just a note: Ooof. I would swear revenge upon the goblin, but it is my experience that die rollers don't like me, and while the DM rolled a 19 and backed it with a 20 to crit me(and he needed to roll a 19+ to hit at all) I am just as likely to roll the exact opposite. I'll cross my fingers that Therin is a bit more lucky.

Also, things had just slowed down a bit during the talk but now that things have gotten moving I am pretty content with the pace. If most of the party logs in once during the day you are normally doing pretty well on a PbP in my experience.


Prettykill grabs the goblin in front of her, lifting it and tossing it aside with lethal ease. It flies a few feet to the side and crumples as it lands, blood everywhere around it. Thus, revenge becomes a non-issue for Therin... Corath's attempts at martial prowess are less impressive, however, and the yammering goblin dodges his attack easily.

Behind the goblin, Ar'dreth casts mage armor and then readies his longsword.

The pack mule squeals in pain, bleeding from numerous vicious cuts on its legs and flanks, and breaks into a terrified gallop up the path, equipment and supplies spilling across the road as it goes.

For a moment, the mounted goblin warrior looks between the fleeing mule and the battle, then shouts something in Goblin and points his halberd at Brune. They charge back along the road once more, and not only does the goblin's halberd flash out toward the dog, but so do his mount's teeth. Charging halberd attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24; damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9. Charging bite attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11; damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6.

Brune goes down with a pained wimper. "Brune!, Rufus cries out, his eyes filled with concern. He then turns his gaze on the goblin chief, anger apparent in his visage. He fits an arrow to the bowstring before taking aim and letting the arrow fly.

The mounted goblin tries to turn his mount quickly enough to avoid the attack. Ride check, using Mounted Combat: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19. Unfortunately for him, the move isn't fast enough, and the arrow sinks deep into the goblin dog's (as Rufus knows it to be) hide.

There isn't really a flank available, but he is close enough that you could take a 5 ft step to threaten him, which would allow you to do the TWF thing.

Sounds good to me, DM. That means my rapier attack above would be 2 lower, and I'll make my second attack here.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Short Sword attack roll

1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Short Sword Damage

Edit: Oh, and if Mozzel is still inspiring, my attack and damage would both be 1 higher for both. She goes right before me, so I wasn't sure if she would be and didn't want to assume it.

Prettykill, now knowing she does not like goblins, runs at the nearest one and bites at it.

Corath, turning to see that Brune is down, rushes over and holds his hands over the dog, chanting as green fire flows from his fingers over the dog's wounds. Animals that fight first people, he'll try to help the mule later.

I'll use ghost sound to make the sound of four angry dogs moving towards the goblins barking and growling to take vengeance for Brune from off the path/behind them

Mozzel continues her chant, working a spell into it as well. Suddenly, the sound of barking dogs echoes through the trees. Will saves for the goblins: Chieftain 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2; warrior 1 (near Corath) 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8; warrior 2 (standing over Brune) 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4. The three remaining goblins all look up in surprise. Rolling an Intimidate check on Mozzel's behalf: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25. Holy schnikies! The goblins look terrified at the prospect of an oncoming dog pack, crying out nervously - even their leader.

Therin takes advantage of the leader's horror and fear to strike at him with both rapier and shortsword. Caught off guard, the blades slice the mounted warrior deeply.

The goblins, clearly terrified, strike out in a frenzy of desperation. Single dogslicer attack on Corath: 1d20 ⇒ 18, damage 1d4 ⇒ 2; the other goblin warrior sets up a flank opposite the chieftain on Therin and attacks once: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8, damage 1d4 ⇒ 2.

Corath: seeing as there's a goblin warrior right in front of you, moving to help Brune will provoke an AoO from it. I wanted to verify that you were willing to take that chance.

Prettykill rushes forward to attack the goblin warrior now threatening Therin, but the attack is awkward, and the goblin - though still shaking - manages to avoid it.

Ar'dreth's target, however, is not so fortunate. The elf (with or without Corath's flank, happily) skewers the goblin that is still within his reach, and the savage humanoid drops to the ground.
