"Kicking with one leg might be a problem," I retort,... "If you had actually HIT me!"
"Hey, I had to come up with that retort before I even tried to hit you! Now, why don't you come over here and I'll try again.", Tallis says with a grin.
Waiting to see what Drunk Monk does before I post my action.
He hasn't posted anywhere since his last post on this thread. I think his internet may be down. Just be merciful on him, alright?
Tallis, could you act for him until he re-emerges? He has missed one round's worth of actions (round 2) that he does not get back but he can have an action in this round (round 3).
As I am not going to be online again until Sunday, I thought I would go ahead and post my round 4 action now, just asssume it happens right after the other two, provided of course they don't hit me with another chair.
Moving lightly I vault off the table I am standing on and spring onto the table next to my advesary (D2). I land on my hands and immediately spin, my legs circling just above the mugs on the table and then out towards my foe.
"NOISY CRICKET SPIN OF DEATH!" I yell even as I am spinning on my hands.
Its a beautiful move and my foot once more connects with the other monk, even if only lightly. I then vault to my feet on the table and nimbly bounce from foot to foot anticipating a retaliation.
Activating Dodge. AC is 19 for this round.
"Even the smallest of blows can fell the biggest of trees... given time," I say to the other monk with a grin.
Well, that was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the opportunity, Tarren.
It's not over! You can come back next battle, when all groups play as Level 2 Monks, and winners add a new rule. (At least I think that's what Tarren said)
Well, that was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the opportunity, Tarren.
Spoiler:
If your teammate wins, you still could be the winner. Also, you can bring in another character or the same character for the next round. Winning team will issue a challenge, e.g. 'four monks walk into the bar' or 'four barbarians using alternate rage system walk into the bar' etc.
ROUND 3 Round-up:
Jakie leaps onto a table and kicks Tallis. 3 points of damage
The inebriated ascetic revives himself from his stupor and take Ilil out of the competiton.
Gunnom decides to wreck more of the furniture.
Misthing, although unable to differentiate between a midriff and a head, hits Gunnom. 7 points
of damage, yes? and then strikes a pose.
Tallis comes very close to the nimble halfling but does not connect.
ROUND 4 Initiative: E3/E4 table -- Noisy Cricket School -Lil Jake -- 20 -- ALREADY ACTED (SEE ABOVE)
G2 -- The Conniving Frog -Drunk Monk 18
J7 Leaping Monkey School -Gunnom 13
E3 The Conniving Frog -Tallis 12
J6 Noisy Cricket School -Misthing Gosmack 12
I haven't uploaded the updated the map yet. I hope everyone can figure out where they are from the list above.
Gunnom, looking after Misthing comming to her, seeing her partner Ilil falling to the ground, lets out a cry of outrage, before trying to hit the halforc in front of her.
She skips the dance-off routine this time. Now that she's been hurt, she's lost track of what her next move should have been...
With the -2 for Flurry, should would have needed to roll 15s to hit, which gave her two 30% chances to hit, instead of one 40% chance to hit if she'd taken a single attack. I never really thought about the math before, but Flurrying kinda makes sense, I guess.
Sorry for the delay. I had a rare table-top game Saturday. (For me to get out of the house without kids in tow is rare). I'll update the map, summarize the last round, and begin the next round tonight.
Let me know if I got this wrong. ROUND 4 Round-up:
E3/E4 table -- Noisy Cricket School -Lil Jake -- 20 -- ALREADY ACTED (SEE ABOVE)

The halfling monk leaps to another table (D2) and pegs the drunk monk with a spinning kick. 2
points of damage to drunk monk.
Drunk Monk spends his time thinking of a brilliant plan. He then picks up a chair.
Gunnom smacks Misthing hard and fast. 7 damage to Misthing.
Tallis decides tables are cool for standing on and calls to Drunk Monk for help.
Misthing attempts to imitate Gunnom's move but fails. She forgets to pose.
Drunk Monk discards his chair in the general direction of Lil' Jakie.
Now I would like to trip Misthing, if I knew how... So, I have a CMB of 0+3+0= 3, while Misthing has 4. According to page 150 of the Beta I have to:
Pathfinder RPG Beta Page 150 wrote:
When you perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll and add your CMB to the result plus any bonuses you might have due to specific feats or abilities.
So it is: 1d20+3(attack roll)+3(CMB)
Against:
Pathfinder RPG Beta Page 150 wrote:
The DC to successfully perform the maneuver is determined using the following formula:
DC = 15 + the target’s CMB
therefore 19(+possible damage from the AoO)
Misthing please do your AoO, if you like
Gunnom laughs further at Misthing: "You not hit me! I hit you but you not hit me! You now go down." she predicts, spinning, one foot extended, trying to sweep the other halforc off her feet.
Trip attempt, Trip attempt. (1d20+6=12) eh, nevermind.
"Hah, too slow!" Misthing taunts, attempting to use her Attack of Opportunity to attempt a different maneuver. Since you were so kind as to post our CMBs and all...
"NOISY CRICKET MUD WRASSLIN!"
Grapple attempt (CMB +4 against target 18). I get a 13. I'm thinking that special maneuvers are for the birds... DC 15 + CMB? Yuk.
I'm thinking that special maneuvers are for the birds... DC 15 + CMB? Yuk.[/ooc]
For the grapple, at least, a DC 12 would be much closer to 3.5's chances of success. I'm for moving it DC 12 in the final. If that doesn't happen, then my first houserule will be 'the rule of 12'. ;-)
Hu? Attempting to grapple is a standard action... So can you make a maneuver instead of an AoO? Would I get an AoO if you would not have Improved Grapple?

In 3.5, you can attempt a grapple/trip/disarm as an AoO. I'm not clear on whether you can in Pathfinder... But yeah, it should provoke a followup AoO from you as well.
From the looks of it, Grapple (and Bull Rush, Charge and Overrun) is a standard action, while Disarm, Sunder and Trip are 'attack actions.' While it doesn't really say this anywhere, it seems that the intent would be that one could take an 'attack action' as an Attack of Opportunity, but not a standard action maneuver. So yeah, looks like I did something un-doable, in addition to sucking at it.

I did not know that... And, would that AoO from the AoO-Grapple be not before the actual AoO-Grapple? That would be weird...

Yup. You could attempt to Trip, and I could counter with a Trip, and if I succeeded, I'd prevent your Trip from ever happening. If we both had Combat Reflexes and Dex 16, we could continue into a chain of eight total AoOs triggered by that, and people would definitely think we were dancing...

Frustrated at her lack of whatever the heck it was she tried to do during her attack of opportunity, Misthing launches an unartful right hook at Gunnom's jaw.
"ANGRY MONKEY FLINGS POO!" she shouts, having apparently forgotten what school she goes to now...
Standing on my table, I take a glance at the two big lugs nearest me. Misthing seems unfortunately distracted and I figure I'm on my own. With a rueful grin, I decide to hold my ground and nimbly bouncing from one foot to the other, I lift my hands and wordlessly make a come and get me gesture with my fingers to both of the other monks.
Dodging still, AC is still 19.
I ready myself to attack the first opponent to approach close enough to kick.
Ah, thanks for letting me stand one round longer...
That was my plan all along! Yeah, that's the ticket... :) It has been funny that we've both been one lucky punch away from unconscious for a couple of rounds now.
As the drunk charges at me, I kick out quickly in an arc and then follow with a fist. Both blows strike but I realize I need to work on putting more power behind my well placed strikes as he continues, scarcely fazed.
"Aw man," I complain, as the fool lays his hands on me, "your breath could stun an ox."
So if I understand right, both of us are grappled, taking -4 to our AC (so mine becomes 15 at the moment) and in the next round, I get to attack normally if I choose to, provided my other honorable foe manages to miss me again.
Drunk Monk has a CMB of +4 (+6 for grappling due to improved grapple). He rolled a 17 and added 6 to get 23.
Lil' Jakie has a CMB of -1 (?). He did 4 points of damage while Drunk was attacking him (his readied action ... improved grapple denied him an attack of opportunity). So, the DC to grapple LJ is 15 -1 (CMB) +4 (Damage dealt) = 18.
Drunk Monk makes it. Drunk Monk will need to make a new grapple check each round but has a +5 circumstance bonus to those checks. Lil' Jakie can also attempt to break the grapple in the next round. If LJ doesn't slip away, DM can start to hurt him, pin him, or throw him around. (PRPG, pp. 149-150).
Currently, they both have the 'grappled condition' (PRPG, p. 400):
Grappled: A grappled creature is being restrained
by a nother creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures
cannot move and take a –4 penalty to their Dexterity.
A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack
rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made
to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled
c reatures can take no action that requires two hands
to perform. A grappled character that attempts to cast
a spell must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + the spell’s
level) or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make
attacks of opportunity.
Grappled characters can attack according to the glossary but at -2, which cancels out my +2 higher ground advantage. Its a shame the dice failed me now with my foe taking a -4 to his AC as well. :/
Lil' Jakie, why is your CMB -2? I understand -1 for the size modifier. What is the other -1 for?
My bad. I believe that it was a -2 for small creatures at some point earlier in the rules evolution and I didn't recheck it in Beta.
Can a grappled creature kick? ;)
I don't see why not. ... Now, let's see. You are standing on a table. Monk is on the ground. Your facing each other. If you kicked him, it would him him about .... OUCH! ;-)
ROUND 5 Round-up:
Lil Jakie prepares to take on anyone who attacks him, and as Drunk Monk charges in, LJ kicks and punches him. 4 points of damage to DM. Drunk Monk has still managed to get his hands on the halfling but now he's got an armful of trouble. Tallis tries to help his ally but strikes only air.
Gunnom attempts to trip Misthing but she dances over Gunnom's foot.
Misthing retaliates by attempting to mud wrassle Gunnom. Half-orc female mud wrasslers are relatively rare in Abasalom. We don't get to see one today. Remember, you should have had +6 to that grapple attempt, not +4 as you have +2 for improved grapple.
Misthing stops getting fancy and punches Gunnom. 5 points of damage.
Regarding the question of what can be attempted as an AofO, who is going to post the question on the playtest reports pages?
Since the only real change in position is Tallis moving from E3 to D3, I'm not going to upload a new map at this time.
