Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Your ability to take things in stride does you credit. Folk are impressed with your good humor.

At this point, most of the major events of the day are done. Now only the winner of the race remains to be decided. Folk begin gathering at the finish line to cheer on the racers.

A figure comes around the bend in the road, prompting a cheer from the crowd. That cheer quickly turns to gasps and exclamations of shock and alarm. As the lithe young woman continues toward the green, blood can be seen running down her tunic. Her eyes seem glazed and her face is fixed in a look of panic.

Erius runs over to her and tries to talk to her,at the same time he will look at her injuries,
does he know her? if so he will call out her name.

"insert name here" what happend? you're safe now

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Erius:As she gets closer, you recognize her as Elaine, a 14 year old girl from a farmstead north of the village. She's a long-legged tomboy, and known for her running ability. She is hysterical as you approach, and you can't make much from her hysterical sobs and babbling.

Diplomacy check to calm the girl down. By the way, folks, I've just been informed that Paizo has put in a dice-roller. Check the BBCode tags.

Noting the commotion, Remy strides out of the crowd towards the girl.

Eliane, calm down you're safe now, diplomacy 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

edit what a crap roll!!! i dont like this die roller!!

"Now settle down there darlin', what's got ya so upset now."

Diplomacy 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Erius, you attempt to calm the girl down, with little success. Another young man comes up and speaks kindly to her, but to no avail. She is simply too frightened and her account of what happened is incoherent.

About this time you realize that there should be other runners coming across the finish line, but this is not the case. The race itself seems to have been disrupted by something, obviously dangerous, but at this point you have no clue as to what.

Your mutual queries are simply answered by the girl's panicked babble, sobbing, and a trembling hand pointing back toward the path from whence she came.

Folk nearby are becoming concerned, and a ripple of uncertainty begins to spread through the crowd.

assuming that i do have my weapons with me? and armour? i will ask for help from those around me and then follow the path that elaine came from (where is illiana?)

(says this quite loudly) anybody brave enough can come with me i am going to find out what has happend, someone please comfort the girl
erius will start down the path

"I got ya back my friend, let's see what all the fuss is about shall we?"

(Female Human Paladin 1)

Illiana, watching form the crowd steps up and smiles at the girl then joins the group walking toward the danger.

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

At this point, all of you are here to enjoy the fair. Any armor, most weapons and other adventuring equipment are considered to be left at home or in a room at the inn. If you have a dagger or staff on your equipment list, consider them with you. Since Iliana took part in the archery contest, she'll have her bow. Otherwise, you'll have to make do with what's available here. Considering the contests that have just occurred, you'll know what you have at hand to grab before you head out.

My character has just arrived, so he should have all of his gear with him, right?

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Yes, you haven't actually rented your room yet, so you've still got your gear with you. At this point, Ren is still at the inn, considering he hasn't gone to the green or participated in any events.

Ren: The happy mood at the inn is disrupted by scared folk rushing in, out of breath and sweaty. One of them manages to pant out a warning about monsters on the race trail, near the crossroads.

Not taking off his wolf mask, Ren rushes out of the inn, looking for danger and checking to see that his kukris will easily slide from sheets.

Sorry. It's 3 AM here. I'm a bit tired.

erius has two daggers on him then
Erius looks around to see if there is anything he can use as a club,or does anybody near him have a quaterstaff?

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

You can collect a staff easily enough; there are plenty from the contest lying around.

Remy catches up a staff from the contest as he goes.

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

All right, so at this point Erius, Remy, and Iliana head out of the green in the direction Elaine ran in from. Some of the other villagers take on the task of calming the girl and tending to her wounds. The three of you move into the trees bordering the western edge of the green, weapons at the ready.

Meanwhile, Ren lopes out of the inn, taking the road out of town, which heads west, then bends northward, alert for any sign of the dangers reported by the townsfolk.

Perception checks all around, please.

(Female Human Paladin 1)

1d20 ⇒ 12

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

At this point, Ren has not sighted any sign of danger, just dead leaves stirring in the breeze. Further up the road he sees a copse of trees to his right, and a mown field to his left, a lonely scarecrow hanging limp from his post in the field.

Erius and Iliana move into the trees, looking for whatever attacked Elaine. There are no immediate signs of danger, however you note droplets of blood on the leaf litter beneath the trees.

The sight of a scarecrow is giving him the creeps, but nevertheless Ren goes towards the trees.

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Ren makes his way up the road to the copse, his attention occasionally drawn by the scarecrow. At one point, its head lolls over, as if following your progress, but certainly its only the effect of the wind upon it...

Entering the trees, you wince at the crunch of leaves under your feet, taking care to step as softly as possible. You lay your hand on one gnarled trunk, the moss upon the bark still bearing summer's green. As you round the trunk, a faint smell is carried to your nostrils, something out of place in the familiar fall scents...somewhat dank and foul...then a rattling noise and a crunch of leaves catches your attention.

From behind a nearby tree a claw of yellowed bone, followed by a grinning skull. Before you is a skeleton, old, yellowed, and crusted with grave dirt, walking under its own power. Mere paces away, you can see worms writhing amid the soil that clogs one of the eye sockets. The other is empty but for a faint, flickering light. As it senses you, it raises its arms, clutching at you with outstretched, bony talons.

Initiative roll, Ren.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Remy:
Peering off through the trees, you catch movement ahead...two, perhaps three figures, making their way through the trees.

Ren:
The bony corpse makes a lunge at you. You duck the strike, avoiding contact, though a light rain of grave earth spatters your cheek from the narrowly avoided attack.

(Female Human Paladin 1)

did you want init form all of us or just Ren? 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

We'll hold on initiative for the rest of you until you're actually in the combat area, or have reason to believe there is combat going on nearby.

Ren attacks, wielding both of his kukris.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Steeling himself, Ren slashes at the undead thing before him. His first attack goes wide as the skeleton ducks under his swing, pressing in on him. The second blade connects, but merely scrapes across the sternum.

The skeleton again lashes out, raking at Ren's chest and face with its talons. The bony digits on one hand scratch down his armor without effect, but the other hand tears cruelly down the side of his face and neck. 4hp damage.

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Annika:
You are an initiate in the Verdant Order, a small monastic order within the lands of the Iron Marches. This is the heart of the Great Mother, the last bastion of unsullied lands left since the Wounding, and it is here that one may commune most closely with the great goddess Erda. Your order, only a score of you, are reclusive, having withdrawn from the feudal life in these dwarven-ruled lands. You live in touch with the natural environment, learning the wisdom and the strength of the natural world around you. Though your order helps where it can when venturing away from the monastery, the Verdant Order does not embroil itself in political maneuverings, such as the rebellion of the Hand of Jorin against the dwarven Jarls.

The monastery itself is known as Green Hill, a small, oddly round landmark that lies in a long, narrow valley some twenty miles north of the village of Three Oaks. From the outside, it is not much different than the grass-covered barrows that are commonly encountered in out of the way places in these mountains. However, upon entering through either of the two evenly spaced doors, the difference is apparently. The interior of the hill is hollow and carved of stone. Beneath the main chamber in the hill itself are other rooms, clustered and descending some sixty feet into the earth below. It is here that the monks rest, meditate, and keep their duties.

Among these duties has been the guardianship of several relics, things from ages past. Some of these are held in anticipation of the time when the Great Mother's wounds heal. Others are things of vile nature that are kept here against rediscovery. In the hands of the corruptible, they could pose even greater threat to the land and its inhabitants.

Unfortunately, one of these has been stolen. A great tome, bound in humanoid flesh and bone, was taken recently. While you and many of the younger acolytes were off acquiring supplies from a nearby gnomish settlement, the Hill was attacked by undead. In the aftermath, several of your brothers and sisters were injured; your master, Abbess Liandra, is missing. Brother Shale, the ranking member of the order, is attempting to make things right. Upon your group's return the followin g day, search parties were sent to find some sign of the invaders or their prisoner, but without results.

You have been given the assignment to travel to the House of the Pearl, a secret shrine to Daena, the moon goddess. It is hoped they can divine what has become of the Abbess and the tome. Whoever perpetrated this crime knew what they were after; it is certain that they are intent on some foul purpose and need the book to fulfill it. You must travel swiftly, and with the Green Lady's blessing will find answers that will help set things aright.

1d20 + 2; 1d20 + 2

Ren falls into the rhythm of parry and slash, attempting to find an opening, some weak spot on this thing. Taking an opportunity, he brings his main hand kukri up in a broad high arc, following through with a lower slash from the offhand weapon--an attempt to possibly cut through its spine below the ribcage. Unfortunately, the carpet of leaves beneath the trees conceals a root. He stumbles and both strikes miss their mark by a wide margin. One strikes a small, low-hanging branch with enough force to sever it from its tree.

The skeleton presses its advance. Again, it lashes out with its bony claws. This time a wide swipe from its left arm is unavoidable. It tears through Ren's soft leather leggings, leaving gouges in his thigh. 3hp damage.

erius will det evil on the people ahead as they come into range
(unless they attack or appear obviously monstrous and threatening, in which case "its clobbering time")

Fighting against rising despair, Ren tries once more to defend himself against undead monstrosity.

Erius, Illiana, & Remy: Perception checks, please.

Erius:Would you like to do the full detect evil (60'rad, 3rnds of concentration) or focus on a single target as a move action?

Ren: Ren stands his ground, fighting on and looking for an opening. As the skeleton makes a wide slash, he ducks under its arm, then comes in with a hard, downward chop that bites into bone with a crack. Unfortunately, the blade in his off-hand does not bite, but simply scrapes ribs. Damage roll for the primary hand.

1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 I've rolled critical with primary hand. Is it double base damage plus modifier, or what

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Whoops, that got completely past me. Go ahead and roll to confirm the critical hit.

Ren:
If the confirm roll is a 14 or higher, go ahead and roll the extra die for the crit.

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Remy:
You distinctly hear a chop--like an axe striking wood--through the trees ahead of you, beyond where you saw the figures moving. Seconds later, another sound, like something cracking, and a ring of metal.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Ren's blow bites hard into the aged bone, shattering a collar bone and biting deep into the spine just below the neck. As he wrenches his kukri free, the thing falls to the leaf-littered ground before him.

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

As Ren is breathing a sigh of relief, staring down at his fallen foe, the sound of footsteps stirring dead leaves attracts his attention. Looking up, he can see three more walking skeletons in the trees ahead, about thirty feet away, moving in his direction. They stride through the trees with eerie grace and murderous intent.

Panting like a real wolf, youngling tightly grips his knives, wondering what to do and where to run. Perception to see if any help is coming his way 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Qadira (Male Human, mostly English Major 4/ Creative Writer 4/ Grad student (prestige class) 2)

Casting his glance about desperately, Ren notes another three forms through the trees beyond the skeletons, though he can't be certain if they are friend or foe.

"Help! Over here! Help!", shouts Ren, running around the skeletons in a wide circle and towards the tree figures.
