(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Shaking his head at Ardanto's tactics, Daurros thinks, I love that man as a brother, but I fear it is sometimes as an infant-minded one! Daurros unleashes another volley of magic missiles at the ooze.

3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4, 2) + 3 = 11

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

EDIT: nevermind

Snem blasts at the beast, splinting wood but seeming to do no harm as Dauros lets loose a trio of arcane bolts blasting the hidden beasts flesh. Ardanto in a reckless act of bravery draws his sword and leaps from the deck at the beasts, Toxim seeing Ardantos action gets off a quick spell enlarging the leaping Ardanto who seems to splash into the derbies laden sea missing his target.

Finn stabs once more at the unseen mass, missing his first strike, but landing with his 2nd..still his spear becomes stuck in the unseen mass.Karkalla scrambles across the tilting rain slick deck reaching the ballista as Thoven calls upon the silver flame to bring in an allie. In the water Guard tries without much luck to brake the ship away from the beasts grasp,

Ok new round here folks. Karkalla had to use a full round to get to the ballista, ya can shoot twice this round starting. Finn your 2nd attack hit, but failed str so the spear is stuck. Ardanto ya missed and hit the water..but are large now.

Your map

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Karkalla opens fire with the giant crossbow

attack Not sure if there are oter modifiers for firing this thing so just using the basic ones

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Damage

3d8 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) = 11

3d8 ⇒ (8, 3, 8) = 19

Ardanto curses as his strike misses the creature finding only water, he attempts to tread water as he swipes at the creature again.

*Swim +18 (+5 Str, +3 Class Skill, +5 Ranks, +5 ring of swimming) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (11) + 18 = 29

Assuming the check is a success, he again tries a desperate swing at the ooze.

Longsword +13 (2d6+11 19-20) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

2d6 + 11 ⇒ (1, 6) + 11 = 18

I am not sure what rules I am under:
1) I think it is a move related check to stay swimming each round, leaving me a Standard to make an attack.
2) Do I also suffer from the half damage from slashing damage for being under water? My guess would be yes?
3) Ardanto ducks his head under water? Does being totally submerged reduce the miss chance as you can see where the creature is, although in darkness?

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Finn tries to unstick his spear.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Thoven Pick up his Bow and lets loose another shot
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
as his spiritual weapon does the same
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The summoned lantern Archon hovers 20 feet above the creature, activating it's Aura Of Menace

Spoiler:
Aura of Menace (Su) Any hostile creature within a 20-foot radius of an archon must succeed on a Will save (DC 12) to resist its effects. The save DC is Charisma-based, and includes a +2 racial bonus. Those who fail take a –2 penalty on attacks, AC, and saves for 24 hours or until they successfully hit the archon that generated the aura. A creature that has resisted or broken the effect cannot be affected again by the same archon's aura for 24 hours.
While also taking it's two light ray attacksThese overcome any dr if the thing has it.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
1d6 ⇒ 2

Once again Snem floats up towards the crystalclear attacker and blasts at it:
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Seeing Ardanto fly down the deck the warforged looks over to him, calling: "What'ya doin down here? Fancy taking a swimm? Or do you want to snuggle with that thing, if you find it?
Let's see if we can heckle that thing..."

Attack with flanking bonus: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21, damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8, STR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Action point for second attack:
Attack with flanking bonus: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13, damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9, STR: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

"With puns like that, we may have been better off if Guard missed this one too?
Toxim shoots at the clear goopy stuff
Shortbow 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Miss chance 1d100 ⇒ 46 *PB Shot added.

Snem blasts at the unseen assailant, seeming to hit as the lantern Archon glows brightly lighting the rainswept night, it's lightrays burn harmlessly into the sea. Karkalla lets off tow shots with the ballista the first sticking to the unseen beast while the 2nd sinks into the sea harmlessly.

An enlarged Ardanto, treads water as he brings his sword down upon the thing, this time connecting with the unseen foe. Thoven and the silver bow bury arrows into the beats as Toxim only hits the sea, Guard rams his fists into the beast as Finn ties to pull his spear loose from the creature..suddenly the spear pulls free almost knocking Finn down.

A great sucking noise can be heard, like the worlds largest starfish being pried from a rock. Suddenly the Sea Wyvern rocks to starboard violently free from the beasts grasp, several crew are knocked to the deck and the poor crewmen in the water is sucked under with the violent waves, Guard is slammed into the side of the ship as Ardanto is pulled under. Thoven catches himself on the rail as Toxim is knocked to the deck. At the wheel Amella fights as the ship nearly capsizes from it's sudden release . Water swamps the deck sweeping two other seamen into the dark water.

Actions? To save a bit of time being a pbp..yep it's dead

Your map

Snem lights up in surprise. The little blue ball floats down to the ooze and probes it, while Guard shakes his head from the sudden slam.

He looks around, noticing Ardanto having been pulled under. Quickly he races over and grabs into the water, hoping to catch him.

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Karkalla begins to aid in trying to bring the bodies of the men on board as well as any survivors.

The world slows down for Ardanto. His swing is true and he feels the sword strike the ooze, the sensation similar to smashing a fist into a mattress.
Guard, standing confidently on the rolling waves surface, makes a pun about snuggling the mammoth ooze, Ardanto starts with a witty reply about it being the best offer he has had in weeks, but is cut off mid sentance as the creature suddenly peels free of the boat. The massive wave pushing him down and the under tow combine to pull him from the surface.

Desperately he yanks at his sword, refusing to let it go to Davey Jones's locker, the weight of the dead monstrosity pulling him deeper under water as his chest begins to tighten from exertion.

Round 1: Strength: 20 (+5) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Round 2: Strength: 20 (+5) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Round 3: Strength: 20 (+5) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Round 4: Strength: 20 (+5) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

The sword breaks free of the beasts tar like grasp. Frantically he kicks out with his legs and his one free arm, in the swirling darkness he looses sight of which way is up and which way is down. He feels an arm brush his and grabbing it he stares into the dead eyes of one of the crew members, his yell of surprise lets out a few more precious air bubbles. Through the churning bubble filled expanse of blackness a faint glittering light catches his attention, Snem! A wave of releif washes over Ardanto and he kicks towards the light, trusting his instincts are correct.

Swim Round 1: *Swim +18 (+5 Str, +3 Rank, +5 Class Skill, +5 ring of swimming) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23
Swim Round 2: *Swim +18 (+5 Str, +3 Rank, +5 Class Skill, +5 ring of swimming) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Swim Round 3: *Swim +18 (+5 Str, +3 Rank, +5 Class Skill, +5 ring of swimming) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
Swim Round 4: *Swim +18 (+5 Str, +3 Rank, +5 Class Skill, +5 ring of swimming) 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24

Done a few rounds here, I think the 20 is good enough to free the sword, if not I am pretty sure the 22 is. As Guard was on the other side of a churning sea and got slammed against the boat, I doubt he can reach me before the weight of the creature drags me down. Ardanto can hold his breath for a whopping 28 rounds, or 14 rounds if he takes full round actions, I think it would not be unfair of you to rule that as he was not prepared for the plunge, and cut that value in half.

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Technically, it might just be knocked out since Finn was doing nonlethal damage, but we can quickly finish it off.

Finn assists in whatever way he can with the injured, short of going for a swim (which he is loath to do in a rainstorm).

Thoven Will do his best to save the men who are overboard, and He can send the lantern archon with whoever is going to dive after the crew(if any)

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

If it seems any of the crew are having trouble Karkalla will head back into the dink to get them

Seeing Ardanto diving like a fish, Guard goes over the ocean to other seamen out in the open, helping them to get back on board.

Toxim will help pull people back onto the boat as well.

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Daurros will assist anyone overboard trying to get back on. He should be able to help guide ropes, etc. to swimmers as he flies around. He'll also take a moment and scan the debris field, seeing if anything of value was a part of it, besides the ooze.

perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Thoven, Finn, and Toxim help the downed crewmen on board as Guard fishes out the sinking man, Duaroos does a fast pass over the derbies field as it starts to float away from the ship

Crewmen below deck work to check for damage as they free trapped crewmen and passengers from below.

Ok the debris field is no longer stuck on the ship and as the ship is moving is starting to fall behind...you got 5 rounds before it's behind the ship. Any other actions?

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Karkalla gives the derbies field a look over

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

You can make out 8 bodies{including the two dead crewmen) within the derbies field. The bodies are mostly intact, they look to be sailors mostly likely from the last poor ship this thing attacked

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

"You know we should probably get our men out of that thing and the other ones as well." Karkalla suggests.

After helping the crewmen to get back aboard, the warforged shouts up: "Shall I look at the damage from outside? Or anything else down here I can do?"

Hearing Karkalla's suggestion, he goes over to help her best as he can. "Them can't be helped anymore, I think... but we can give them a proper burial at sea, for what it's worth."

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

"That will have to do I guess." Karkalla then goes about arranging an impromtual funeral at sea

Having recovered from the shock of being under water Ardanto will attempt to free as many bodies form the flotsam as he can. Noticing the ship is moving away he yells, "Hell fire! At least sail the Wyvern near me!" He relays the bodies back to the ship.

As it seems body recovery is what the plan is, we can work with that
The Sea wyvern is slowed and the sails cut to take out the wind, Crewmen man the dingy and soon the bodies are removes from the debris field to the ships deck. Crew men below deck still work to inspect damage and help passengers...Urol with bloody bandages wrapped around his head eagerly questions people about the "beast" pesting folks for samples and details of the battle while scrapping up bits off the deck.

Lirth seems to be helping bandage crew and cargo and she nods to Toxim as she moves along the deck. At the wheel Amelle is barking out commands to the crew as Father Fere , looking battered himself moves along the wounded. Tavey, Ardantos every present and bright eyed cabin boy runs across the deck with liens and supplies taking them to the wounded

While most crew did not get attacked many are wounded from the severe rocking the ship took. As the bodies of the dead are laid on the deck a very drunken Avner stumbles from the captains cabin. Taking in the scene of the rain sick deck he looks a bit bewildered "I say Awoodantooo" he drunkenly slurs "I do believe we hit something"

Ardanto has one last swim through the debris field to check he has missed nothing and to collect a few samples for Urol.

Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote:

Brilliant!

A sodden, half naked Ardanto finally clambers on deck and looks at the line of dead, solemnly he asks "How many are ours?". At this point Avner appears on deck, Ardanto goes to give him a scathing look, but then just starts laughing, his belly laugh echoing over the rain and wind. Between his guffaws he manages to say, "Avner, you have a great idea there, let us drop Anchor and get some rum in our bellies while we lay these poor souls to rest."

Still chuckling he heads towards his cabin to get a change of dry clothes.

Toxim will help prepare the bodies for their funeral. He'll try to keep an eye on 'Feres'. While doing so, he'll also be on the lookout for any loot they might have on them.

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Finn shakes his head and scowls.

"What a bloody mess. But I doubt this was any assassin's doing, this time."

Toxim smiles while he goes about his grisly work. "What? Not an assassin. Finn, are you going soft on us? First Guard gets in on the action and now you. By the Host we are in for some trouble on this journey."

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

"Two more dead men. Are the gods playing a joke on us? Is this ship cursed?"

Finn sighs and returns to helping clean up the damage.

Thoven places a comforting hand on Finn's shoulder."Have faith Finn." He suggests as he moves to the bodies, going about giving them their final rights solemnly.

As you prepare the bodies for burial at sea you do notice a few of the ones have belongings, Two rings, 4 ear rings, some coin purses and so on. One of the bodies has an interesting set of bronze gauntlets with a dragon motif.

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Daurros, uninterested with laying the dead to rest but very interested in recovering their possessions, casts detect magic on the items and spends time identifying anything that checks positive.

When Avner comes on deck, at first Daurros gives a little scowl, then remembers his plans. He joins Ardanto in his laugh, and says, "I'll be back to join you in your carousing momentarily, good sir. We could all use a further drink!"

Avner seems to nods stupidly at Daurros "Rum! what a brilliant ideal ol' boy." he slurs pointy at Tavry he yells"You cabin boy fetch some rum!"

Daurros spells points out two items that contain magic, one of the rings and the gauntlets

Ardanto dries himself and puts on a oil skin poncho before emerging out onto deck with a small barrel of rum and a bucket of mugs.

He places the mugs and barrel down in the centre of a coil of rope to stop them rolling away and moves around the crew members one by one, checking they are okay, getting status reports on the injured and damage below and boosting moral as best he can. Taking a 10 on diplomacy I can get a total of 19. He points each one towards the rum and tells them to have a drink for the fallen comrades.

Finally he fills two mugs of rum and moves over to Amella at the helm to check that she is okay, handing her one of the mugs he whispers "Amella, in all my time I have never had such bad fortune aboard a ship, 'tis as if this voyage is cursed, I feel that this last encounter will drain the crews moral and I am not sure I can turn it around, but I will do my best knowing that you stand beside me." he takes a swig of the rum and strides over to the aft castle railing, over looking the main deck and the arranged dead.
"Gentlemen!" he yells over the storm, "mourn for your fallen brothers and raise a mug in their memory for soon we will commit their souls to the ocean where they made their living," he raises a mug in toast to the dead. "Let us also rejoice in the great deed we have accomplished this day, that monstrosity, I am told is called a Sea Ooze, has grown fat on the bodies of men less valiant than we are, it is a menace to honest sailors who ply their trades on these waters." "Think of all the mothers, wives and daughters who have lost loved ones to its ravenous hunger and be proud that no more! No more shall it feast on the innocent, for we brave few have ended its terror and these waters will be safer because of our actions!" he raises his mug for another drink, "Let us know that our sacrifice has not been in vain and our deeds will reverberate in the songs that bards will sing of us in years to come!" He then drains his mug and stands silently at the helm, watching the crew below and the preparations for burial.

Dilpomacy roll in case I can not take a 10
*Diplomacy +9 (+1 Cha,+5 Rank, +3 Class Skill) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

I hate this frigging dice roller, or more exactly, it hates me.

"Here here, Captain! To the departed!"
Aid another 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

"Aye! To the seamen!"
Aid another: 1d20 ⇒ 16

An "Aye!" goes up from the crew, as they stand on the rainswept deck. The crew is quiet as Thoven says a few words as the men are given over to the deep. Amella nods at Ardanto "I have seen worse captain, I have seen worse." She says staring into the darkness

There is little sleep to be had after that, as the ship is put back into order, cargo secured and wounded taken care of. As the sun greets you in a light rain it falls upon a very weary crew. Amella and Ardanto spends much of the night going over charts and trying to see just how far the ship may have drifted.

Actions over the next few days? As I am sure Daurros will go over the items in the coming days I have included them in a spoiler. I will also get a list of the remaining crew posted in off topic sometime in the next few days

Daurros

Spoiler:
The magic items are a set of gauntlets of str {+2} and a ring of mind shielding

Seeker, in my profile I have a list of the crew and passengers. It does not have everyone, but could be a starting point for you.

Toxim will help Daurros identify the items.
How much are the other items worth? Appraise 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Thanks,I had a total list, but it was lost with most of my other stuff. I never got around to rebuilding it.

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote:

Back to what she was doing beforehand generally (possibly spending a bit less time on rigging) as well as at somepoint making a suggestion about having weapons closer to hand as well

Having taken care of the cargo and helped repair the ship from outside, Guard goes to help himself get in a better shape, working the anvil on board during the daytime, to get his plating undented.

Even though the situation goes dire and the crew's a bit weary, he keeps himself unarmed, helping the crew as best he can, with the aid of his sailor's bracers, speaking to them encouragingly.

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Guard wrote:

If Karkall notices him doing this at any point she offers to help him with it.

Assist on the craft check

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Ardanto becomes very visible over the next several days, he sleeps little, seeming to constantly be up working, trying to fill the void left by the recently deceased sailors. By the end of the forth day he has bags under his eyes and the start of a dark beard, but still he continues, trying to do his job as well as the work of others.

Karkalla is likely to notice him hammering the anvil for hours long. The warforged gladly accepts her offer to help him.

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Finn spends some time patrolling for anything suspicious, but he spends most of his time brooding alone, staring into the ocean for instance. His skin looks a little gray and unhealthy, possibly due to lack of sleep.

I'll continue on as though it's business as usual. I'll keep an eye on Skald, and the false priest Feres. I'll spend a few moments in private with Lirith when I as well. Thunderfoot (Thunderstrike) needs to be tended to. Finally, I'll play a mean joke on Abner. One night after he's passed out from drinking too much, I'll cut his hair off one side of his head.

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

One day, after examing the items in detail, Daurros summons his companions. "I have discovered the properties of the magical ring and gauntlets. The ring is a minor item which can help shield the mind from certain divinations (ring of mind shielding). The gauntlets increase a wearer's strength (gauntlets of strength +2). Who would like them?"
