Havrin bows to the little man. "I most humbly beg your pardon," he says quietly in his deep bass voice. Acting on a hunch, he reaches into his pack and draws forth one of the eerily glowing blue knives and, laying it across his palms, presents it to the little man. "Will you accept this as recompense?"

Havrin is interested to gauge the little man's reaction and see if he recognizes where such a knife would come from.

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

Antal skips along toward the captain's father's place but his feet choose a longer path through the markets. Waving and grinning at familiar faces Antal becomes distracted. Seeing his old friend Fireblossom at one of the gnome-run stalls he stops and begins chatting, telling tales of his adventures since leaving home and catching up on some of the latest gossip within the markets.

Tyr follows quietly along behind the rest of the group. Watching the developments with the door 'guard' with casual interest.

"Will you accept this as recompense?"

Havrin is interested to gauge the little man's reaction and see if he recognizes where such a knife would come from.

The little man cackles and snatches the knife from you. With a flourish it disappears in his hand. He flashes you a devilish smile, and with a glint in his eyes raises his arms and begins to chant. A burst of light explodes from his hands as he begins to cackle again; this time wildly, with a hint of madness. The glow fades to reveal a man in a silky blue doublet and black pants pinning the little riddler to the ground. He wrests the knife from the little man's hidden pocket "I knew I'd find you here! You will return, and do not tarry!" The wee man, clearly demoralized, bares his teeth at you with a low growl, then skips away singing a strange tune with no discernible words or tune. "You are fortunate that I had need of my servant this day. I have been searching nigh on an hour! He has a tendency to play games on his own time, but most know better. Ah where are my manners, I am Cedric Percival Throckmorton Smythe, 16th of my line. And who do I have the pleasure of rescuing today?"

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

Sirsi offers an oddly formal curtsy before speaking in a broader accent than usual.
"I be Sirsi and have no line to speak of - we were just payin' a visit to the most delightful library you got here and are about to return to compatriots in the city."

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Startled by the sudden activity, Havrin quickly regains his composure. Doffing his hat, he bows to the newcomer, wracking his brain for the proper words of address. " I thank you for your intercession, Lord Smythe. My name is Havrin Stahl of Omri. My companions and I are recent arrivals to Midsky. As Sirsi stated, we have just visited the library and are now on our way to the residence of Captain Illia Stormborn's father for dinner. Unfortunately, we do not know the way..."

Tyr also lifts a gloved hand to a shoulder and bows in salute/greetings

"Tyr Thordinsjon, defender companion." He says simply from his bow, though as he raises his head, again an eyebrow is raised,

"Throckmorton, for some reason that name is familiar to me, but i can't quite place my finger upon it..." He looks at the newly appeared gentleman,

"Would it have something, perhaps, to do with Imps?" Tyr muses, then shakes his head slightly to clear it of such nonsense. He waits for Mr (?) Smythe's reply. Tyr noting to himself that just being the the 16th of anything does not bestow titles.

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

He shakes each of your hands in turn, with a slight nod of his head as you introduce yourselves. "Illia? Of course, her father and I are well acquainted. He lives directly across the ring from me! It seems the sun is about to wane, and I am heading home anyways. You may follow me, and I will show you to his manse." He leads you inward, to another small sidewalk made of a similar material as the large street of the outer ring. Lined with trees, topiaries, and statues, this rich alleyway runs between the different rings of houses, and the scenery changes with every yard you pass. Some are almost like small forests or glades, other vast lawns dotted with statues, a large pond dominates another yard, and still another is bordered by enormous bushes and filled with topiaries as well as more walls of bush. There seems to be no single theme that ties any of them together, and it feels as though you are traveling rapidly across worlds and eras as the architecture and landscaping varies. Finally you arrive in front of a small expanse of yard which ends dramatically at a small forest. A rich looking mansion peaks out of the treetops, moss hanging from the edges of the roof.

"This is where the Captain's father lives, you should feel honored! Very few common folk are invited to the Noble Realm, much less at the behest of a man of such dignity as Illyen. I shall bid you goodnight here, enjoy your night new friends." He bows slightly and disappears into a forest of coniferous trees directly across the way, from which a single tower jutts out of the treeline. As he approaches the entrance, two pure white wolves greet him, licking his hands, and follow him into the growing darkness.

Antal:
"Well hey sugar!" A tiny gnome girl with ferocious red hair greets you with the biggest little hug you can imagine. "Welcome home! How was your big adventure outside?" She chats with you, her eyes wide in awe as you tell her of your big adventures in the world abroad, and especially so when you tell her of the attack on the ship. "Demons! Demon elves? Antal you have to be pulling my little leg!" Regarding the latest rumors "Well it's been awful awful busy, as usual! We've been selling out of hot cakes nearly every day, and even the plain oldbread has been disappearing. We might be able to get a real store sometime soon." Her sister, Violet, yells from behind the stand "Big dreams for a tiny girl! We'll see about that."

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

"Hmmm."

Tyr bows to the fellow in thanks for being guided to the groups destination.

"The people here seem to favor the 'Impressive minimalist' style, do they not?" He notes dryly, though he makes sure to keep his voice low so as to hopefully only carry to those amongst the group preset.

(male Dwarf cleric 3)

Sirsi grins.

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Havrin looks to his companions. "Well, shall we head inside? Or should we wait for Antal?"

I think Lord Smythe kept the blue knife. I wonder if that could mean anything?

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

Antal smiles and converses for a while with the two sisters, laughing and reminiscing of days gone by till the sun has dropped below the horizon. With a look of shock and embarrassment on his face he bows to Fireblossom and Violet. "I'm sorry ladies but I'm afraid I must be off. I'll be late if I don't hurry to a dinner meeting with my employer. However, if we stay any further days I'll be sure to come by and chat some more as well as buy up some of these delicious sweet cakes you make!" With a flourish he drops a few coins onto the counter to pay for the cakes he was snacking on while chatting and dashes off for the captain's father's home to meet up with the others.

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

"Lets go in, see what's on the Captain's table."

Sirsi O'Bannon wrote:
"Lets go in, see what's on the Captain's table."

Tyr bows to the ladies wisdom, politely nodding deeply to indicate so and allowing the fairer female form to lead the way.

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

Antal, you wrap up your visit and are able to readily find one of the city's many black-garbed guardsman. In fact, so easily that one of the city's many black-garbed guardsman finds you. "Sir Antal, the Captain asked me to find you, she was growing worried that you had not arrived yet. Come with me young sir." He leads you, much like the others, through a maze of gates and stairways that seem to run into the bowels of the city, and back out. The Noble Realm is not a new sight for you, as your father has on occasion been an honored guest at some of the merchant's tables. However, the sights before you have only grown more mystical and extravagant since the last time you visited. You are briskly led into one of the Realm's round lanes, to the entrance of a small wood, nearly an acre in size. The guards bows to you and takes his leave, as you stroll into the dark forest path...

Meanwhile, on the backside of the same acre, the rest of the dinner guests are preparing to enter the forest from the opposite side. Dusk is settling in on Midsky, though the setting of the sun feels later than your bodies are used to. As you enter the wood, you see a very small man in blue walking through the growing darkness, no more than 10 feet in front of you. Strangely enough, Antal is walking the same path as you. However, you have little time to call out to your friend, as wicked black blurs burst from the encroaching darkness, teeth and claws gnashing and slashing.

Antal, you manage to duck a gaping maw, as one of the creatures dives over you. He lands next to you and bares his teeth. They are a wicked blue color, and glimmer in the darkness. Piercing eyes of a bitter blood red stare out from a menacing face.

Havrin and Tyr, as you see Antal quickly duck one of the creatures, another two of them burst from the shadows. Havrin you are knicked on the leg (9 Damage); and Tyr, one of the creatures clamps down on your arm (18 damage) [Critical: 20, x2], tugging at it ferociously. You manage to punch the creatures maw and shake it free.

Moving into initiative: Antal then Havrin, followed by the Worgs.

Battle Map

Tyr grunts, gritting his teeth under the creatures jaws. Once he's extricated himself from the savage beasts maw, he pulls his short sword from where it is sheathed across the small of his back and thrusts at the monster to his left, trusting Harvrin to tackle the creature on Tyr's right.

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

With cool, professional detachment, Havrin draws his greatsword as he steps to the side of the worg that damaged his leg, placing the magical beast between himself and Tyr. He swings the great blade in an attempt to cleave the foul beast in twain.

Draw greatsword while taking move action to take five-foot step to flank worg #2 with Tyr. Bonuses to hit include +2 flanking and +2 vs. favored enemy. Bonuses to damage include +2 for Str and +2 vs. favored enemy.

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

Antal jumps a bit at the sudden attack. Grinning madly he cautiously attempts to cast a spell. Freezing the air around him to form his icy armor.

Casting Defensively Mage Armor 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

As the ice begins to form however he attempts to move away from the jaws of his attacker and the ice falls to the floor, harmlessly melting away. "Not good... You'd think the captain would have told her dad we were coming so he wouldn't release the hounds on us! HAHAHA!"

Step back 5 feet along the path, away from the others.

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

The wolf creatures will take their initiative.

Havrin as you're cutting away at the wolf, a crack sounds, and you feel your leg torn out from under you. The world swirls around you, as you find yourself on your back, looking up at a familiar dark-skinned creature. He opens his mouth, wicked sharp teeth glinting in the dim light. He cracks his glowing blue whip and mutters a few short words in a tongue which conjure images of death and disgusting ichor. The wolves ignore their former preys and leap at you. On your back, you manage to fend one of them off and take only moderate damage(11 Damage). Wolf #3, however, provokes attacks from both Havrin and Tyr in his rush to obey his dark master. Havrin you manage to stab upward at the creature, cutting it's underbelly(13 Damage).

Tyr earlier I asked the other players how they prefer to use their AoO, for now I am assuming you will go for it when available until told otherwise. Tyr you take a swipe at it but your short sword is unable to penetrate the thick hide on the creature's haunch.

Tyr you see Havrin fall to the ground, the wolves biting at his arms and legs, but he is maintaining a defensive posture. You come to his aid, avoiding the armored haunch this time, and stabbing deeply into the creatures back, driving your sword to the hilt. The creature screeches, quite unnaturally, and tries to snap over his back at you, but cannot reach. He quickly passes out, bleeding profusely from his deep wound.

Tyr, I went ahead with your attack, but #3 is out of range. To maintain flow, I applied your attack to #2, then Sirsi is up, followed by Antal and Havrin.

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

Sirsi scowls at the wolf-creatures and moves in towards Havrin's side.

Worg #2 is unconscious and bleeding out. Want to move North 5 more feet and attack worg #1?

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

Hmmm, I read through that post 3 times (at least I thought I did) and that bit never regisered.
Since I'm looking at a move action can I circle around the right side to flank with Havrin, or can't he give flanking bonuses while he's floored?

If I can flank I'll move all the way around(NE,NE,N,NW), Otherwise (if either Havrin can't give me a flanking bonus or the wood's too dense to navigate I'll just move up & attack #1

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

I should be able to give you flanking if you can move to that position; I am prone, but I still threaten the squares around me (albeit at a -4 penalty to melee attacks). Time to play Whack-a-Worg!

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

In a safer position Antal casts his spell once again and ice encases him in armor.

Casting Mage Armor again.

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Surrounded by attackers and unable to safely stand, Havrin stays down where he fell. "Alright," he thinks to himself as he momentarily glares daggers at the dark-skinned whip master, "now you're starting to tick me off!" Still lying prone, he reaches up and attempts to skewer one of the worgs before it can harry him again.

Havrin will strike at the worg he previously wounded with the attack of opportunity (worg #3); his bonus to hit (+2 vs. favored enemy) is offset by the -4 penalty for being prone. Therefore:

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 - 4 = 19
Damage Roll: 2d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 + 2 = 15

Yes your movement is valid Sirsi, in the interest of time I have rolled your attack, unfortunately as you attempt to flank the creature he notices your movement through the woods and turns to defend against your attack(6 Rolled + 4 + 2). He is able to dodge your attack but you have provided a flanking bonus to Havrin.

Havrin you skewer your target, and as it slides off your blade, with a last howl he falls unconscious in a heap near you. However, you earn the ire of his brother and he turns to attack you. Biting and clawing at your exposed hands and feet, he manages to give you a few cuts you will not soon forget(8 damage). The Handler strikes at Antal with his whip, blue sparks bursting near his face, but his weapon is deflected by Antal's swirling shield of ice. He then takes a 5 foot step W, retreating into the woods as his advantage wanes.

No update on the battlemap tonight(in Cleveland), but only #1 and the Handler remain, Tyr it's your initiative, followed by Sirsi.

Sorry for not keeping up with the posts. But Real Life shift work always seems to get in the way.

Tyr takes the small opportunity to simply drop his short sword and draw the two handed blade from across his back.

Tyr attacks as he is able

Should we assume that Tyr is going after the whip master?

(Free Action) Havrin gasps, "Stop the dark elf!"

*nods* Works for me

Not that I expect a lowly 17 to hit. :P

(Free Action)"'Tis but a flesh wound!"

Thanks for the offer, but I suspect that the worg standing between us would not look favorably on you trying to heal me just now...unless you can cast a ranged healing?

BTW, I'm down to 4 hp remaining - someone better get ready to cart my unconscious or dead butt! ;-)

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

Tyr, taking Havrin's advice, leaps over the corpses of the fallen worgs and slices into their handler. The gaping chest wound drips with blood, and his breathing becomes noticeably difficult.

Havrin:
Havrin you notice a flicker of movement out of the corner of your eye. Though very subtle, it appears that one of the nearby wolf(2)'s eyelid's occasionally flutter ever so slightly. You take a second to study the other wolf(3) and also notice it's eyelid's flicker so quickly, you are almost not sure you believe what you saw.

I believe Sirsi still needs to take an action before Antal.

Havrin Stahl wrote:

Noted. In the interest of maintaining momentum, Sirsi may act "out of initiative" before the enemies' next turn. I didn't see a conditional action after she asked if you needed healing, so I am defaulting to "delay my action".

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

Antal begins weaving his hands in the air, speaking eldritch words and the water in the air begins to crystallize once again. This time it takes the shape of icicles and speed toward the whip master.

Cast Magic Missile on the whip master, both bolts. 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

Apologies, I was just trying to establish the situation
"C'mon doggy - see if you can take a bite out of me."
Attack the Creature #1 = 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 dmg (if req,)=1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Havrin glares at the last worg standing. "You've been a baaad dog," he growls menacingly as he makes one final attempt to skewer the beast before it can send him to the great beyond.

Havrin will strike at worg #1 while remaining prone; his bonuses to hit (+2 vs. favored enemy and +2 for flanking with Sirsi) are offset by the -4 penalty for being prone. Therefore:

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 + 2 - 4 = 26
Damage Roll: 2d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 + 2 = 6

Even if this does not drop the worg, Havrin will try to stand up from being prone (Move Action) after attacking. He would rather die on his feet (or at least trying to stand on his feet) than lying on the ground.

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Ooooh! Roll to confirm critical!

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 + 2 - 4 = 26
Damage Roll: 2d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 + 2 = 14

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

(Free Action if Havrin survives his attack)

Spoiler:
"The worgs still live! Take their heads!"

Terribly sorry, not sure where 'I' am atm. If close enough Tyr will cast cure light wounds on Havrin.

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

Havrin, taking advantage of the clever distraction from Sirsi, drives his sword upward into the creatures soft belly( Havrin I thought I had mentioned this but all criticals are automatically confirmed, but since you did not know this and during your confirmation actually rolled two crits, the damage will be tripled for this one time only. ), as Sirsi goes for the throat(31+6 Damage). Blood gushes from the creature as it falls to the ground.

At the same time, on the other side of the battle field, Antal fires a volley of wicked ice shards at the whip-wielding elf, deepening some of his worst wounds. Havrin as you begin to stand up and shout your warnings, the deceptive wolves' eyes' flicker open, and they move to bite you(AoO, 9 and 12 misses); but they cannot get in position before you are on your feet. As one wolf tries to stand, Havrin takes a swipe, delivering a glancing blow to the side of the creatures' head, sending it reeling back to the ground(AoO, 8+8=16, 10 Damage). Tyr the creature at your feet tries to slink away and crawl to it's feet, but you gouge deep into it's leg, nearly severing it. The worg passes out, this time clearly wounded beyond the limits of endurance. The handler grunts in frustration and turns tail, heading directly away from the party.

Explain you're doing as this combat seems to be wrapping up

caith wrote:

Weaving unsteadily, Havrin drops his sword and draws his bow as he moves toward the fleeing dark-skinned elf. Blinking blood out of his eyes, he sights down the shaft and lets fly...

Draw bow and arrow (free action) while moving 30 feet toward fleeing elf (move action). Standard action to fire one shot with composite long bow:

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage Roll: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

If the shot drops the dark elf, Havrin will go over to it's body and decapitate it using his kukri and search it while calling to the others to decapitate and search the worgs. If the elf gets away, Havrin will let it go and go back to the others and the worg bodies. Havrin is worried that the worgs and maybe the elf have some means to regenerate, so he will study the bodies closely. If they seem to be regenerating even while decapitated he will pour oil on the bodies and set them alight, keeping the heads to take as evidence to the captain's father's house.

(Male Human Ranger (Skirmisher) 2)

Double one's...I figured my luck couldn't last!

(Male Halfling Sorcerer 3 (Water Elemental Bloodline))

Antal bounds up to the others. Grinning and waving as he approaches.

"Well that's one way to have a reunion!"

(Female Half - Elf Bard 3)

Sirsi moves to Havrin's side and with a clear note from her voice and pressure on his wounds forces them to close.
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 - Cure Light Wounds
So are we going after him or not?

(Outie Non-core Mister Wizard 5/Science Guy 5/OT-8 10)

Havrin the blood on your hands makes pulling your bowstring a slippery affair, and the arrow ends up in your leg(3 Damage), while the creature slinks away into the forest. The wolves' wounds do not seem to be closing unnaturally, and they quickly bleed out.

LOL! At first I thought you were joking, and then I remembered, "Oh, yeah, I rolled a natural 1!" That put me down to 1 hp! Good thing Sirsi came up and healed me...I almost killed myself there! Good stuff! :-)

"I think we should head to the captain's father's house before I do myself any further injury," Havrin says with a weary chuckle. "My thanks for the healing, Sirsi. Is anyone else injured?" he asks concernedly.

Once they make their way back to the worgs, Havrin studies the bodies carefully and sees that they are not regenerating. Also, search the bodies on the off chance they have some type of item or ay interesting features on them: Perception check 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22.

"I think we should take some evidence of this attack with us to the captain's father's house as proof that the dark-skinned attackers from the ship are also here in Midsky," Havrin says grimly has he picks up his sword from where he dropped it. "Their heads should do nicely," he continues as he begins to decapitate the bodies.
