(Male Human fighter 6)

Halga slumps down to the floor along the wall. "Aye Cyrus, I'm beginin' ta hate it to."

Fumbling with a spear in his leg he winces. "Maybe it's just this land here. Most other lands ah've been to treated me far better than this."

(Male Lizardman Monk 4/ Lizardman 2 (+1 LA))

So I failed my fort save, but the spear missed? Right? And there was only 1 spear that tried to hit me anyway?

Truly the gods love lizards...

Fang grabs the rod and looks with puzzlement on his companions who are moaning and wincing...

"When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story."

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

So we only take damage if we blow the Fort save? Also, Mazie the battle cat is Abe's mount; Leo is his old mount, now used as a pack animal.

(Male Human Barbarian 6)

Three out of four hit Cyrus. The one fort fail was the miss so yay.

Cyrus with murder in his eyes reaches to strangle Fang only realizing to late he still has the spears in him.

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

Urdok diplomatically "mistakes" Cyrus's lethal intent and grabs his hands, "Thanks a ton bucko, I gots two of deez in me nether region making a bit tough ter pull myself out." Using Cyrus's great strength Urdok pulls himself off of the two spears and flashes a grateful grin towards Cyrus hoping to stave off any anger.

Amazing untrained bluff/charisma check if I do say so myself :D 1d20+3=21 who said dwarves cant be nice guys!

(Male Human Barbarian 6)

Again Cyrus eyes flash with near murderous intent this time towards the dwarf for stopping him but it passes even faster than it came.

The large man lets out a mighty burst of laughter. Taking the calming moment to finally extract himself from the spears he claps the dwarf on the shoulders in a friendly manner, albeit a strong and hard friendly manner.

“Thanks little fellow!”

“Now before something else decides to take a stab at us, Lets get that locked door open with Lizards new key.”

LOL! nicely played gentleman

order is something like this:
a. # of spears
b. attack of spears
c. damage of spears
d. fort save (poison) 1 con initial for each spear that hits
e. fort save 1d2 con secondary for each previous failed fort save
So if you are poisoned, you will need to make a second save right about the time we open the sea doors.

Abe: Sorry about the confusion I was thinking Leo turned INTO Mazzie when you brought forth the power of Grayskull.

Amar: If it is in character rearrange some skill points, I do not think except for search and spot you have done much on the skill point front.

Is it possible to write a sentence with more two letter words beginning with I?

Fang: WTF? awesome? Sounds like a Barney quote (coming from a big red lizard?)

Amar, Abe, Urdock

Spoiler:
grab the medallion with the pearl. only good for spellcasters. rest of the treasure if you want it.

OK enough with the logistics, back to the game...

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

1d20+4=19, 1d20+4=12

Urdok shudders as the poison begins to course through his veins, but thanks his dwarven background as his body fights off the second wave of nausea. "Anyone wants a feller to use a spell ter find out iffn we gots some magic stuff outta this cursed box?"

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

DM & vestigial dm wrote:
[Abe: Sorry about the confusion I was thinking Leo turned INTO Mazzie when you brought forth the power of Grayskull.

That actually makes more sense, so there is no Leo, only Mazie. In that case:

Ride check to negate the lowest rolled hit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

Which doesn't help, putting mazie at -19 hp, dead, due to the Con loss from 1 blown save.

"Oh Mazie my baby!" Abe starts bawling like a baby himself, then looks around to see who is in need of healing. Seeing Urdok he Lays his hands on him.

For 1 hp, stabilizing.

Abe then starts digging through dead Mazie's saddlebags and pulls out a couple of scrolls...

Man, that was a brutal trap.

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

Urdok actually just figures out that he is -1 hp after the con loss is figured in

Urdok proceeds to slowly expire...

Really?? Ouch! I feel bad. -1 is different than a -19 though so pretty tricky to fudge some rolls.... hmmm... was the con subtracted more than once? and the second save would be in a few minutes, not right away (some time for healing maybe?) Not sure how poison works, is one dose the same as several doses? What happens to a summoned critter when it dies? Never seen a pali's critter go down as they are none too popular in my tabletops. suggestions?

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Wait!

I just realized something, Mazies Con is 15, so the initial loss of 1 Con does not reduce her max hp, so she is at -14 hp and just barely dead, hp = -Con

From the SRD: "Should the paladin’s mount die, it immediately disappears, leaving behind any equipment it was carrying. The paladin may not summon another mount for thirty days or until she gains a paladin level, whichever comes first, even if the mount is somehow returned from the dead. During this thirty-day period, the paladin takes a -1 penalty on attack and weapon damage rolls." Ouch

(Male Human Barbarian 6)

So your saying that the cat just vanished?

Amar looks from Urdok to the others.

Guys, I've got 2 neutralize poison potions and can still cast a couple cure spells . WHo's in the worst shape?

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

That's what it sounds like.

Abe lays hands on Urdok for 3 hp bringing him to consciousness and stabilizing him.

Abe has 2 scrolls of lesser restoration, he can use those after the neutralize poison.

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

Im at 3 hp now and passed the secondary roll so no worries for further dmg for me.

Urdok smacks his lips and yawns, looking around at everyone he say's "I had the most wonderful dream, you were there, and you were there, and you were.....argh!" He stops as the pain kicks in.

(Male Human Barbarian 6)

"I thought you dwarven type were supposed to be hardy?"

"Holy mother of the Sea! The cat is gone!" Cyrus realizes after a while that he said something that may have been a little on the rude side. "Sorry about your cat little one."

Looking around at the party. "So rest for a bit before trying the locked door? I think the lizard goes first for awhile though. Heh."

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

"Err ya, tha's right me bucko, these 'ere are tha tears of joy tha I wokes up n' all me friends r still alive." Turning a groan as he stands into a stretch Urdok walks rigidly to the coffin and casts detect magic.

1d20+3=23 Untrained bluff check, Urdok looks pretty much fantastic to you all lol, what is up with these RP rolls using up my important combat rolls grrr.

The medallion with a pearl gives a moderate glow. The color is hard to determine... something in the transmutation spectrum? Nothing else glows.

Rest before doors or after?

Abe:

Spoiler:
Mazzie took damage before the poison kicked in for which you could have laid on hands. Assuming it gets a good nights rest, s/he should be able to get some hp back. When s/he has rested enoguth to reach maximum you can bring him/er back (or the 30 days whichever is shorter) though a restoration is needed for a full recovery.

If you would rather play it as the PH that is OK by me.

The shell of mazzie is no longer attached to Leo (nor can be for 30 days) but Leo should still be around. (as part of the battle cat trick fluff).

Avner sees the dwarf eyeing the pearl-inset medallion. "Nice jewelry tough guy."

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

DM:

Spoiler:
I would rather she lives, thank you for the kind ruling.

Going back to the aftermath of the trap:

The battle cat did not disappear, and Abe immediately laid his hands on her.

For 10 hp, stabilizing her.

Mazie's secondary Fort save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Then lays his hands on Urdok. As stated earlier.

With the scrolls he got out of his saddle bags, he uses 1 on Udrdok and 1 on Mazie.

Casting lesser restoration and restoring the lost Con, putting Mazie at 1 hp.

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

1d4=2 Lesser Restoration which restores all the lost constitution.

Tha' pearl is a'glowin I thinks it be magic in nature, kinna keeps it fer safe keepin' till we figures out wha' it does?"

This doesnt happen to look like my existing pearl of power does it?

(Male Lizardman Monk 4/ Lizardman 2 (+1 LA))

Fang wanders around in a confused haze. He feels something he's never felt before... guilt... Fortunately he doesn't have the intelligence to figure out what this new emotion is and it passes quickly...

The idea of a nap however... That's something he understands!

(Male Human fighter 6)

"Aye, rest sounds good ta me." Halga rubs his sore side and pushes the spears further away.
"Shame we've no ale or grog about. I think a strong drink would do us all a bit'a good."

If Urdok won;t take healing, I sure will. :P

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Abe turns to Urdok and lays his hands on him, then reads off his other scroll.

Using the remaining 7 hp of healing, and 1d4 ⇒ 1of Con restoration.

Urdok wrote:

Spellcraft check DC 20

Spoiler:
The pearl is much bigger and has fewer flaws, and the masterwork craft is a thousand years earlier, but yes they are similar. This one confined magic glows stronger than the one in Urdock's possession however.

The party limps back to the room with two pedastals, closing the door to the catacombs behind them. Indeed the rod will open the doors, but it is decided that a rest is necessary first.

Avner and Amelia urge to continue to the open air, the noble's horse being jumpy in this underground environment. However the security of a camping place with three doors as safety eventually wins out. The party sets camp, spending what magic they have for healing, rationing out the food and settles in for the night. The TerrorBirds now miles behind them. Mummy's, skeletons, gargantuan vermin are similarly in the past the survivors find a restful night of sleep.

Avner and Abe (Urdock?) if you have spells left for healing go ahead and zero them and everyone should update as with a full nights rest.

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

1d20+11=28 Spellcraft

"I knows exactly wha'this is." With a sigh he hands it to Amar, "Imma thinkin' boostin yer fixin' people spells is more important than me kersplosion spells."

Evidently its a pearl of power, not sure how much information that the GM will let me have with that roll but its more powerful than mine which allows you to cast any first level spell that you had cast that day, so you can test it with heals before we go to bed by recasting the highest level heal you have cast then work your way down till its played out. Since I own one already I think its something my character would be familiar enough with to give you this much info.

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Abe already used all his on Halga (not Urdok as I wrote above).
Both Abe and Mazie are still badly wounded.

The party snores happily under the watchful eyes of their guards. Everything seems peaceful except for the scratching sound on the door sometime in the middle of the night.

everyone maxed out healing spells and overnight options?

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

all except the whole leveling thing? :D

As the party gets ready to bed down, Amar offers to pray with the injured for a "bit o' comfort in the Shalm's name."

I still have a cure moderate wounds (2d8+5) and 5 cure light wounds (1d8+5) available from spontaneous casting. Just claim them and roll your hp recovered. Halga, I think you still needed some?

Regarding the pearl of power, I've got one of first level spells that I could pass on to Abe.

after casting the cure moderate Taking the pearl from Urdok, Amar rolls it around in his hands, "Gem of the sea, stolen from your mother's mouth. Help me. draw light from the dark. "

He tries casting continual flame, if that doesn't work then cure moderate, if that doesn't work then cure light.

Rules question: If I spontaneously burn a spell to cast a cure, will the pearl give me the cure spell or the spell I discarded?

Urdok wrote:

LEVEL? WTF Level? One T-rex, some terror birds, a web-laden prophecy, some gargantuan c'pedes, mummy's, oreo ooze and a nasty trap and you want LEVELS?

Oh. Wait a sec.

On second thought, yeah I better count that out--at least for the two of you here from the beginning O:)

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Abe is fine but his mount could use some healing, since she is at 1 hp.

(Male Human fighter 6)

Con restore- 1d4 ⇒ 3
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10and 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8(2 cure light wounds) Current HP- 55

Halga thanks Amar and Abe before falling into a deep sleep.

DM & vestigial dm wrote:

We've all been here from the beginning, our PCs were just braindead.

Curaigh, which spell did the pearl feed back and about that rules question in my last post?

Amar accepts Halga's thanks but still looks concerned. "Meditate a moment more with me on the strength of Kord."

Take another clw 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Leaving Halga and drifting through the camp, Amar notices Mazie. "Ahh. Kitty. The green one feels your pain." He sits down beside the big cat, strokes its fur and tries to feed it a morsel. I'll use the cure serious on Mazie. 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 = 13

[ooc] Still have 2 cure lights and whatever the pearl gives me back available for interested PCs

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

"I mights be a feelin' a bits unner tha weather still, nuffin worse than a hangover mind ya, but still would like a bit o' tha preisty stuff on me."

A cure light would put me over 20 hp which should be fine for a caster who is usually in the back, please.

Amar the Sailor wrote:

Interesting question and I welcome other opinions. For now lets go with the spell that was prepared, since that is how it would work for wizards, bards, rangers, and palis. The answer to that may determine the answer to the second question, but trial&error says: 3rd level. Two more to check in, but I will push forward if I dinnae here from them tomorrow. O:)

(Male Human Barbarian 6)

Cyrus beds down after his small meal of rations and falls almost instantly asleep.

Sorry nothing really worth posting came to mind.

Sorry I want to get some sleep -- no descriptive prose.

Cure light for Urdok 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Cure light for Cyrus 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 might as well use it now.

Amar is surprised and delighted (relighted) as concentrating with the pearl causes one of his daggers to take on a flaming appearance. my third level spell today was continual flames. We've got a bone-torch and a dagger-torch now.

Getting the prepped spell back is fine. Amar's done for tonight. Let's get some sleep, recharge and go get them tomorrow.

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

"Thank you, father." Abe thanks Amar, then curls up with Mazie to spend the night,

Should we arrange a guard rotation?

DM & vestigial dm wrote:

do not use this word in a pbp. EVER. It makes RL jealously angry. You do not want RL angry! RL SMASH!

Taking turns at watch is almost as resful as sleeping. The doors are locked, the sea is outside, and all but one of the catatonic survivors is able to share in the duty. In the morning, a little bit of puzzling and a little bit of muscle turn the two found rods into handles and the sea doors open with a screech of protest flooding te cdhamber with freash salt air from the world outside. There is a sense of good things to come compared to spending another night under the mountains.

Beyond the doors is a broad set of seaweed choked stairs that leads to a small beach.

Urdock and Fang

Spoiler:
please level up :)

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

Level up for me!!

Urdok feels stronger, faster, and smarter, and for once its not the beer.

(Male Human fighter 6)

"Well, no more waitin'. Bout time for some fresh air." Halga carefully walks down the stairs toward the beach. He took a deep breath of the briny air and smiled.

"

Amar is less cautious than Halga. With a sort of whimper, he dashes down the stairs to stretch prone in the sand on the beach. [i]Pelor, Shining one. Obad Hai, Green Shadow. Kord the Strong, and Olidamara the sly. Thank you. "

In this more salubrious atmosphere Amar begins to pray.

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Abe rides Mazie down the stairs, and when they get to the beach, proceed to ride donuts in the sand.

Abernathus Burbuckle wrote:

Mazie kicks sand up revealing a gold coin the paladin quickly grabs up. Amar and Halga also find a peice of the shiny, a small reward among the bigger reward of fresh air.

Sunshine is a little farther off, being this close to the cliffside. On the other side of the water though, a path is hewn into the rock. The top of this, is haloed with the golden fingers of dawn.

(Male Human fighter 6)

Halga kneels to say his morning prayers next to Amar. "Heironeous, guide my hand to glory in defense of justice."

Humming a battle hymn he stands up and pulls a gold coin from the sand. He looks up to the heavens and grins. "Looks to be a good start to the day, eh Amar? Wonder what it'd take ta find a good cask of ale?"

(Male Dwarf Warmage / 7)

Urdok grins as he watches how happy his friends are to leave the cave system. For his part he feels some sadness returning to the open air, thanks to his dwarven heritage. He sits down half in and half out of the opening and watches his friends while they gambol in the surf.

Halga Biir wrote:

"Yes, a good start. Pelor smiles. I'd take rum over ale, but we're likely to find neither here. A tall ship and a long voyage is what we need."

(Male Halfling Paladin 2)

Abe pulls up next to the rest and points to the paths ascending the cliff on the other side of the water.

"That is the way I guess."
