As you decide where to head to you suddenly hear a scream. It's close by, seeming to come from the alley down which the fragrant tramp scuttled. What you can be sure of though is that it was a womans scream and she seemed to be in dire need of aid.

But then again, it is raining, you are all tired and hungry and besides, there are lots of other individuals around the square...perhaps one of them will help?

Andoran (Female Human Sorcerer - 1)

~Adriana sighs~ Oh well. I can always get dry later! ~she looks at everyone once and then heads down the alley, casting Mage Armor as she goes~

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

Num-Rah shakes his head, looking in the direction of fleeing man. "Little one", says the Litorian. "I do not think that he has wife or any children." Then, Litorian hears the screams and without a word draws the blade and runs toward the alley. Assuming there's enough room, Num-Rah draws greatsword. Otherwise draws short sword.

"This is a strange land where a woman's scream does not draw more attention!" Ulven moves down the alley toward the scream, drawing his greataxe as he goes.

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Ilona draws her glaive from across her back immediately, dashing down the alley way alongside Num-Rah.

"It's always something in this town."

The alley is dark and narrow, probably too narrow to swing a large weapon. About 20' down it, you can make out two shadowy individuals acosting a third. One of the figures is trying to hold a kicking and screaming woman still, using a large club that he holds across her body, whilst the other is dancing around in front of her waving a short sword. Both are laughing. Piles of rubbish lie along the sides of the alley and several rats scurry off, disturbed by the commotion. There is no sign of the tramp that ran this way.

Andoran (Female Human Sorcerer - 1)

~Adriana quickly prepares Color Spray and then yells at them~ Hey you SCUM!!!! ~when they turn to her, she hits them with the Color Spray spell~

~She then readies Acid Splash~

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Her sword in hand due to the cramped space, Ilona waits for the spell to take effect, the second after it does she charges, sword blade leaping forward in a wicked thrust aimed at the man holding the girl.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"Come", snarls the Litorian to the thug with short sword. "I am more of your size."
Roll(1d20)+6: 13,+6 Total:19; dmg Roll(1d6)+5: 6,+5 Total:11

The man with the short sword staggers forward, dazed by the lights, trying to acertain who it is that has entered the alley. At the first sign of the huge Paladin he drops his sword, turns tail and runs, slipping on the wet garbage as he does so. Almost on hands and knees he runs for his life.

Thesecond thug tosses the girl to the side and into a pile of wooden crates. He readies his Great club to meet the attack.

Ilona, i'm going to assume that you have suprise on your side so you strike first.

The thug rushes toward you, and traight onto your thrusting blade. His eyes go wide with astonishment and he looks down at the weapon, before sliding off it and onto the damp floor. The rain mixes with his blood as it drips off the cold steel.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

Litorian rushes to catch the knave.

The thug runs down the alley, then takes a sharp left turn banging into a wall. He stumbles again before holding his head and crashing to the ground, out cold. It appears that the colour spray has affected him at last.

100 xp to each party member

The young woman picks herself up from where she was thrown, dusts herself down and looks to see just who it is that has come to her aid.
She has red hair and prominent freckles running across the bridge of her nose, although these are somewhat obscured by a large dollop of mud that is smeared over her face. She wears plain clothing in a way that doesnt really show off her figure, with an apron over her tunic.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

Num-Rah grabs the thug by his shirt and drags him back to the scene of the attempted mugging. "Little witch", says the Litorian. "We should inform keepers of order about what happened here". Num-Rah then turns towards the women. "Are you alright?"

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"If you wanna carry him for a bit I'm sure there'll be a Watch member along the way somewhere," Ilona says to her massive new friend, cleaning the blood off her blade and sheathing it.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"You take care of this frightened one. I shall find keepers of order." Num-Rah goes to square to look for guardsmen.

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"Uh...ok. Should we wait here?"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"Yes. This one is frightened. Perhaps it is not wise for me and our barbarian friend to be here while you and the sorceress are trying to calm here down, and the keepers of the order should be informed of blood-letting. The two of us should go, and the two of you should talk to the girl - if everyone agrees, of course. I do not know the customs of this land or this city."

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"Makes sense, but we should meet back here, 'cause...well...you're gonna get lost and...you'll get into some stuff without even trying."

Ilona gives the paladin a grin that is less, "let's avoid that" and more, "when that happens I wann be there."

As you start to drag the man away towards the square, he strugles awake and lets out a yelp. He has heard your conversation and digs his feet into the ground.
"No, please...not the guards. Let me go 'n' Derral will tell you everythink. Just letme go...you wont be havin no more trouble from old Derral!"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

Num-Rah stops. "Little witch, I am confused. Honor demands for the keepers of order to be informed of blood-letting. But, I am a stranger here. What is your advice?"

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"Well.. perhaps he's got information that we should..share with the authorities. If he talks it may be better than simply having him tossed in a cell"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"Hmmm...", murmurs the Litorian. "Know this, knave: if you lie to me, I will know."

He backs away from both Ilona and Num-Rah until he is leaning against a wall.

"Ok, here's how it is...I admit that i'm a member of the Pale Dogs; our
leader is Jirraith, but iv'e never actually seen him. And anyway, he didn’t send us on this job.
We were hired to kill the girl, Phon, by a man named Doffel. We each got 10 gp for the job and were each to receive another 40 gp if we
met with our employer at a warehouse on Able Row, on Theoday, two hours after dusk. Look, here's the note. You can have my 10 gold if you just let me go."

He holds out a scrap of paper and a cloth purse.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"I don't need your blood money, scum! i should kill you just for offering it!", snarls Num-Rah, grabbing thug's throat. "Ilona, you are native of this city. I shall adhere to your wishes concerning this misbegotten creature."

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Ilona steps forward, taking the paper and the purse, before stepping back, leaving the thug under Num-Rah's terrifying glare.

"I think the money, and the final word on his fate....should go to his intended victim."

She looks toward the pretty girl standing next to Adriana and tosses her the pouch.

The young woman, Phon, goes to catch the purse but misses and it drops a her feet. She looks down at it, then bends to retrieve it. Her red hair falls over her face. Still crouched down, she looks up though acurtain of hair, her hand holding the purse.
"Let him go. Maybe he will learn from this, maybe he won't. But I will not have his blood on my hands. He still has time to change. But I will keep his money. It will be a donation to Brother Thisk at St. Gustavs."

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"Baah! Crawl away, worm. If our paths cross one more time, I shall remove your stain from my shadow with blood - and it shan't be mine!"

"Ok, ok...i'm leaving...you won't see me again, i promise!"
He back out of the alley, turns tail and runs, not looking back.

"This land has strange justice! In my land a thief has his hand cut off and a murderer is hung from a tree upside down with a light slit cut in his belly. The buzzards or the great bears usually finish him," Ulven steps from the shadows where he watched the entire scene unfold. "I take it you intend to make his rendez-vous in his place and turn the tables on these would-be assassins?"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"Should we not inform law-keepers?"

Andoran (Female Human Sorcerer - 1)

~Adriana looks over at the woman~ Just be more careful from now on. Not everyone is nice and you might not get so lucky next time.

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"It's pretty unusual for gold to get passed around like that to kill a random woman. You must have an enemy, that really wants you dead. I gotta feeling you want the Watch out of this. Am I right?"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

~Num-Rah just listens~

(Male Half-Elf Rogue 1)

This is caffeineated, sorry it took so long to make my rogue, I got rather busy. Still have room for him I hope?

Walking down the street, Kieran notices the thug turn out of the alley and nearly run him down as he rushes past the young half-elf. Looking back at the fleeing man one eyebrow raised, he shrugs and decides to find out what all the fuss is about. He smirks, with any luck it's trouble.

Turning into the alley he sees the four companions and the young woman, as well as the thug's now-deceased accomplice. Hooking his thumbs in his belt and raising one eyebrow, he calls out to them. "You all run into a bit of trouble?" he asks dryly.

I'm rolling a perception check just in case there's anything of note, beyond the obvious dead guy, massive barbarian and litorian, and the two lovely ladies, ;p

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"Nothing we're not equipped to handle," Ilona replies suspiciously, steeping across line of sight to the girl.

Phon replies "I have no idea who would want me dead or why. I just work as a seamstress. And yes, I have no wish for this to go further. I just want no bother."

Good to hear you Kieran
Kieran

Spoiler:
You notice the tell tale black fingernails and double ring on the hand of the dead thug. Definately a member of the Pale Dogs.
You know the following about them:
The Pale Dogs are a gang of young thugs in Ptolus.

The Pale Dogs sometimes get hired forfreelance jobs to do unimportant work by those not affiliated with their group.

The Pale Dogs are based in the Warrens.

Other, more powerful and experienced criminals may exploit the Pale Dogs.

The Pale Dogs’ leader is a mysterious man named Jirraith.

Jirraith and the Pale Dogs ultimately work for the Balacazars.

Kieran smirks as he steps forward just a little, trying to appear non-threatening. "As I can well see. Still, another hand is always helpful when trouble's about isn't it?" He asks, his smirk now grown into a companionable smile. " 'name's Kieran Del'gerr, I'm fairly new to the city," remembering his childhood occasionally lived in the great city, and not wishing to lie for the time being, he quickly adds, "well, new again anyway."

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Ilona looks up at Num-Rah.

"Well, what d'you think? Can we trust this guy?"

"He does not smell of deception."

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Ilona raises an eyebrow as she looks at the big Litoran for a moment.

"You're weird y'know that? I like it!"

Smiling se turs back to te stranger,"He says you're ok, so hey"

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

Litorian just shrugs.

(Male Half-Elf Rogue 1)

His smile breaks out into a wide grin. "Excellent. Thanks..." he pauses for a moment, looking up at the litorian, then at the rest of them, "uh, what exactly should I be calling you all?" He asked while he pondered the litorian's words. Likely he could tell someone was lying by their scent, he'd overheard wizards once talking about people giving off scents that most common races couldn't recognize, but the few that had sharper noses supposedly could use those scents to read a person. Kieran thought it likely that since he could stop all the visible and audible traces of deception from appearing that his body probably wouldn't react and release whatever it was the big guy could smell should he choose to lie around him, but he couldn't be sure. He'd have to tread carefully with this group.

(Male Catfolk Paladin 3)

"I am Num-Rah and I hail from the lands across the White Sea. I have come to this den of stone to find the sacred spirit which will inhabit my blade."

(Male Half-Elf Rogue 1)

He nods, "Well met. Sacred Spirit, huh? There's a tale or two in that that I'd like to hear once this is all done." Kieran looks back to the others. "And the rest of you?" He then glances down at the corpse at his feet and at the girl beside the darkly beautiful swordwoman, "Mind, we may want to move this discussion elsewhere. Because although it looked like you scared that other guy back there well enough to keep him from going back to the pale dogs and warning them, he still might. And even if he doesn't one of his buddies will likely be sent after him and this poor sot," he nudges the dead man with his boot, "to find out what's taking them so long."
