Ilona looks at Gillian's shiver and gives her a reassuring smile.

"It's nothing we can't handle, but..good idea." She draws her blade slowly, the sight of the massive orc blade a bold reminder of the enemy's vulnerability, one that lifts the spirit, while simultaneously promising swift violence.

He then looks up as the doors open at Chop's touch. A look of newfound respect appearing on his face...that one should not be underestimated...
"Sky'tor, do you get a sense of how much time elapses between worg visits, and when the last patrol might have come by? It might be wise for some of us to stand guard down here, to keep an eye out for them..."

Sky looks up at the question. "From my observation it looks as though the tracks are a month or so apart...so not on a daily basis, but regularly".

It's 13 minutes past midnight here and I am a bit tired so I'll post the description of the hall tomorrow. Just letting you know. Sorry.

(male Dorn Barbarian 2, Spiritual Channeler 2)

"Monthly...? the big man says slowly.

He lowers his pack, rifles through it a moment and comes out with a fishing net, a length of fine jewelry chain and a solid block of silver with the sygil of a griffon rampant stamped on the top.

For anyone with a decent Knowledge: History check

Spoiler:
The griffon rampant is the symbol of the old kingdom of Erenland. The bar is a trade-weight silver ignot once used as the standard for the erenland economy. That one block was once worth a small fortune.

He hands the chain to Chops, drops the silver bar into the net and hands it to his brother.

Before Sky'tor has a chance to respond to Eyvindr's latest question, Ragnar hands the latter the net with the silver bar in it. The elder Dorn looks at his younger brother with a puzzled expression on his face. "What would you have me do with this?"

No ranks in Knowledge (history)...

Solvistania glances over at the exhange between the 2 Dorn brothers, and hesitates, but her curiosity is overwhelming her. She walks over to them and asks, "How did you get that, it is beautiful! Where did you discover it, it is priceless!"

Eyvindr the Proud wrote:

"I have always heeded the old tales, and I know of only one wherin the tracks of wolves arrive once a month. I doubt everyone else would wait for me to fashion a hammer out of it. A makeshift flail will have to do. For now, hang it from your belt."

Solvistania Elghreah wrote:

Ragnar gives her an odd look, like she's begun speaking nonsense. "Hardly priceless. It's a standard weight. Should be worth the same anywhere in the kingdom. We brought it from home in case we needed to purchase supplies, though it is likely more than we will ever need."

Ragnar's pretty lights are to weak to let you see much of anything. I'm gonna assume that at least some of you have entered the hall. As soon as you put your foot inside the doors, you feel as if some great weight has been put on your shoulders. Every step you take is heavy like your feet are made of led. The ground floor of the castle is even larger than you thought looking in from the outside. You can not see much since the the open doors are the only source of light. After a minute of slow walk, though, it is to dark to see around you without light.

Obviously, this does not apply to all of you. I'm gonna need your actions now. Who went in and in what order.

Pete skulks in and sniffs at the air.

It makes sense that you are the first one in. Perception, please.

Pete:
You sense the musty smell of corpses turned to dust long time ago. There is some faint scratching in the far away walls, perhaps rats, but the sound is just a little bit to loud and to sharp for common rats. Much nearer is the smell of open water, perhaps some pool or fountain in the hall.

Solvistania:
There is something strange about the floor, but you just can't put your finger on it. Perhaps if there's more light...

Solvistania, although perfectly capable of seeing in the dark, notices something odd about the floor.

"Hold up a momnet." She says quietly.

She murmers an arcane phrase and soft glowing light appears in her hand.

Cast Light cantrip

She bends over to examine the floor further...

Solvistania:
You can see in the dark, but not the whole room. It seems to you that there is some kind of pattern set in the floor, but you can not discern it clearly since it seems to you that it stretches on whole surface of the floor.

The ghost lights are each as strong as torches, and there are 4 of them. that should be a lot of light. Are they being dampened somehow?"

(Male Erunsil (Snow Elf) Fighter 5)

Sky follows about 10' behind Pete, his bow ready covering the rogue, and his senses sharpened Sky will take 10 on perception, for a total of 20 unless required otherwise

Pete will use his innate Dancing Lights ability to help Ragnar shed light on the hallway. Combined with low-light vision, that should be enough to see quite a ways.

"Hmm. Hear rats, smell dust and water."

(Male Human (Dorn) Wildlander / 1)

Eyvindr waits for all to enter, tying the makeshift flail to his belt as he does so. Once all have entered, he takes his position as rearguard and enters as well. "Shall I close the gate behind us, or...?"

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

Ilona walks alongside Solvistania, eyes alert for danger at the others study the room.

Chops stays with Eyvindr, waiting for the signal to close the doors or not.

Gilian comes in late, just after Solvistania and Ilona.

Ragnar and Pete:
Your magics are indeed dampened. Instead of giving the equivalent of torchlight your lights are weak as candles. As soon as you called them, you felt strong sense of oppression and evil.

Solvistania:
The pattern on the floor looks to you as giant rune for averting evil, or perhaps bounding it.

Solvistania looks up from studying the rune and says, "this looks like a rune to ward off evil, or maybe to contain it. Be cautious around here, everyone. Have you discovered anything else, Ragnar?"

Sky:
You hear faith scratching in the distance. The size of the hall makes it difficult to determine exactly from where, but those animals must be the size of dogs to be heard that far.

From your vantage point you can not see or hear much of what lies inside the castle. But you think that you hear howl in the distance...

"Hey...uh. It sounds like we may be having company soon," Chops calls out to those on the inside. "Unless that howl I heard is just a coincidence and it isn't from the worgs that made these tracks."

"I'm leaning towards shutting," grumbles Eyvindr. "Don't want anything else that doesn't have dwarf blood having too easy a time getting in and following us. Think you'll be able to open it again from the inside, Chops?"

Or is there an obvious handle on this side?

(Female Human (Sarcosan) Fighter 2/ Chaneller 3)

"Everybody in and close the gates! We don't need to fight two battles at once, we'll deal with the worgs when we leave."

There is no doubt in her voice, no hesitation whatsoever. Her stance shifts and with the verdatch hovering in a guard position she becomes somewhat reminiscent of a dark valkyrie preparing to embrace battle.

The Lantern Bearers are nervous. You can see how their light is dimmed here. Brother, can you see in this darkness?

Ragnar immediately moves to obey as she speaks, moving much faster than his usual slow and measured pace. Without even waiting for a reply from his brother he is inside the gate and stationed at one of the doors preparing to close it behind them.

"You know, there is only one way to find out. But I don't see why not, they opened easily enou...." then he hears Illona shout and sees Ragnar run to the doors. He immediately slams his door shut.

Edit: So I was called away by my wife in the middle of my typing, and then I come and submit, only to find out what I wrote wasn't really relevant anymore.

"Yes I can see in the darkness." She murmers in reply to Ragnar. "Do as Ilona says, we will take our chances in here."

The doors close easily enough, but not completely. Before they were sealed, but now a trace of light escapes through the hair thin crack between two sides of the door. It seems that once open they can not be closed - or you don't know how to do it.

Chops hisses to those that have been inside, "Anyone see anything to brace this door with?"

You have explored just the immediate vicinity of the door, so you don't really know what's in the hall, but I'll help you with that - the ground floor is just bare stone.

(Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5)

Gilian moves close to Chops, unrolling her atharak from her belt.

Gilian:
You notice the musty smell that comes from dead bodies left to rot for a long time in an enclosed space. Somewhere in this huge room there is at least one dead body, probably dead for a very long time.

(Female Erenlander Spiritual Chaneller 5)

"Something died here a long time ago. It smells like a rotten corpse would"

Eyvindr slams the door shut with Chops. A few moments pass before he responds to his brother's question in a subdued tone of voice. "Yes... I can see... ever since the fall..." He mumbles the last few words and does not complete the sentence.

The elder Dorn then begins to scan the area, keeping one hand on the door as Chops and Gillian fumble to in the dark, trying to brace it shut...

Perception: 11 + 6 = 17... How wide is the hall?

The hall is a little more than 100 yards wide, but it's more than that long/deep.

Eyvindr:
While slamming the door shut, you notice old marks in the stone near the door. Eight parallel scratchings in the floor. They look like someone was dragged inside by the feet, but he, she or it tried to dig fingernails into stone.

Ceiling height?

Solvistania sees the doors cannot be closed completely, and utters a curse in her native High Elvish tongue. Looking around her, she feels like she is trapped in a tomb, and claustrophobia closes in on her, but refuses to be panicked.

She looks at the runes on the floor again, trying to determine if it has been broken, or altered somehow, and also if there is a way to restore or repair it.

The castle has no upper floors. So the ceiling is as high as the castle is tall. Let's say as five story building.

Your knowledge of arcane is unsufficient to make a judgment about that. Whatever you may think of, it would be pure guessing.
