Yay, the boards are working again! For ages, any time I clicked on a thread, I just got a blank screen. Of course, I have to head out in a moment, but time for a quick update...
Bear can use his Swim checks from earlier. As it's the surprise round, you only get a single action, and when you divide a speed of 30 by 4, it annoyingly doesn't come out to a nice multiple of 5. So I'll allow him 10 feet of movement in the surprise round. I did the same for the undead.
Bear swims back to the other side of the pillar and begins heading back to the stairs.
ROUND 1
Body Swim check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The body attempts to swim further forward, but is unable to propel itself sufficiently and is stuck where it is. (It would be drowning now if it weren't already dead.)
Dara then begins swimming back to the stairs as well.
Next Up: Fredrik, Venedictus, Udaya, Bear, body, Dara.
Swim check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (4) - 2 = 2
Can Venedictus channel energy while under water? If so, he'll take advantage of the skeleton's floundering to hurt it.
Channel energy: 1d6 ⇒ 1 DC 15
Edit: never mind. He opens his mouth to sing the channeling chant and breathes in water by mistake. He begins to drown, flailing frantically in panic.
Fredrik begins swimming back to the stairs, making it to the edge of the tan wall and part way round. 15 ft total. You do half your speed as a full-round action.
Venedictus could channel energy under water. However, he would have to move closer first as the creature is currently out of range (Venedictus can't even see it at the moment). That's a moot point though as he failed his Swim check. He's not actually drowning, though. Failing by 5 or more just means you go under the water. If you're already under the water holding your breath, you're okay (until you run out of breath, that is). We'll say though that he took in a bit of water and thinks he's drowning, and that's why he's unable to move this round. :)
Venedictus flails about, clearly panicking.
Map Cairn3 Updated
Up Next: Udaya, Bear, body, Dara, Fredrik, Venedictus.
I should note that Udaya has not actually seen the body (the moving one, that is). All she is aware of at that moment is that everyone else is hightailing it back to the stairs.
Next time my turn comes up (if I can see the undead and he's within 30 feet), Bear will start with an attack to see if he can hit the undead thing, then continue swimming.
Telekinetic Fist (ranged touch attack) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19; damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2. Obviously add in any penalties for attempting this underwater.
Guys, I'm out doing family stuff today. Keep NPCing me as needed. FWIW - since UU is stripped down, her swim check is +3 not +1
ROUND 3
UU will continue to swim back (double move)to base. She will look out for others along the way. If she sees anyone is in trouble, she will swim over to help.
Perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Swim1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Swim1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The undead body comes around the pillar and approaches Dara, getting up beside her. Fredrik can see it now, and so fires off his blinding ray. Unfortunately, the ray shoots over the creature's decayed shoulder and does not make contact.
The body's mouth opens in the shape of a snarl, and Dara can see sharp teeth and a long tongue. It is unable to attack her this round, though, as it took a full-round action to get this far.
Next Up: Dara, Venedictus, Udaya, Bear, Fredrik, body.
Dara, round 4
Dara will delay until after Bear has moved so that her path to continue swimming is unobstructed (double move). Yes, I'm risking the AoO to get out of the water.
Unfortunately, there was no way for Venedictus to know in advance that he would do fine on his own, so he waits for Udaya to help. Dara is also waiting, so Udaya attempts to give Venedictus a boost.
Udaya Swim check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Udaya gives Venedictus a hefty shove forward and he makes it to the stairs.
Fredrik sees the undead thing approaching, so he decides to get out od its way. He moves to the pile of clothes where his staff is laying and picks it up.
Double move, to move to T12 and pick up his staff. I never said where he put his clothes but T12 is a good square for it.
Venedictus gasps, chokes, and sputters as he rises up out of the water. He moves back to R12 behind Udaya and gives her a bit of luck (roll all d20s twice until Venedictus' next turn, take better result).
How do you want to handle channel energy, Navior? I know we rule in our home game that it both heals living and harms undead at the same time.

I think we'll go with it heals and harms simultaneously. I haven't found that it unbalances things in any noticeable way. This adventure path has a lot of undead in it, so you're likely to get a lot of use out of it.
Next Up: Bear, Dara, Fredrik, body, Udaya, Venedictus
No worries. I've had a busy weekend too, so I wouldn't have had much chance to do a lot of updating anyway. :)
Bear readies his weapon and then Dara finally makes it back to the stairs. She's not fully out of the water yet, but her head and upper body are out. Square P12 She too readies for the undead creature to approach.
ROUND 6
Up Next: Fredrik, body, Udaya, Venedictus, Bear (possibly modified due to readied action), Dara (possibly modified due to readied action).
Fredrik feels much better with his staff in his hands. He decides to save his spell energy, and slips into a defensive stance. Move to S13, and Total Defense action.
UU will ready an attack and take a front-line position next to Dara. She also mentions, while scanning the water, "I found a body in that western-side room. Didn't have a chance to grab it though."
And we come full circle back to Bear, who didn't get to use his readied action because the undead can't swim. The two women are now also in front of him, blocking any opportunity of the body coming in reach of him. Unless he wants to go swimming again. :)
Next Up: Bear, Dara, Fredrik, body, Udaya, Venedictus.
Well, there seem to be two choices - since we have a bit of time while our undead buddy learns the backstroke. We can be very safe and fall back to the four way intersection where more of us will be able to attack at once and we can hammer this guy with ranged attacks while he approaches. Given he is a bit 'bitey' that may not be a bad idea. He doesn't seem your standard zombie... Vene care to ID this guy for us?
Or, TWO, we all delay and then we fast-forward to when he manages to make it out of the water. Given we are all in our skivvies - hence lightly armored. Discretion may be the better part of valor.
Oh, no, no... go ahead and take my crit away... that's fine. :)
"Well, ole' Bear thinks it's gettin' a bit crowded up here." The big man drops his blade to his side, preparing instead of slam the creature with another Telekinetic Fist when it rounds the corner.
Next Up: Fredrik(who spent a round in total defense against nothing), body, Udaya, Venedictus, Bear (subject to readied action), Dara (subject to readied action).
