”Hey! It worked! Way to go Nuveril! Let's use this opportunity to take the battle to them”
Nano yells and go into spellcasting. As he moves toward the ladder, he does so with impressive speed, his small legs allmost moving in a blur.
Casting expeditius retreat (speed is now 50 feet for 10 rounds) and follow jaken towards the ladder
If I made it up the ladder I would like to attack a Pugwampi, but I'm not sure how close they are.
Nuveril(HP: 51/51 (61/61 raging) F Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 5)
Nuveril prowls the floor of the chapel, her eyes on the slight movements in the rafters. Stowing her scimitar, she draws a javelin and prepares herself to throw it the first time she gets a clear shot at a pugwampi.
Nuveril may not be the sharpest cookie in the jar, but she remembers the goat and the cliff and isn't about to volunteer to make Climb and Acrobatics checks tens of feet above a stone floor with pugwampis in the area. ;)
Seeing the otherwise stupidly brave halfling female stay on the floor, makes Nano hestitate. But since he has only got enough energy to conjure one more ray of acid, he figures that they need to take the fight to the pugwampis.
Just before he starts climbing the ladder he turns to Nuveril with a smile 'what is the matter? You only got it in your mouth?' he winks and start climbing.
Nano will follow jaken up the ladder. So unlike him. Seeing another halfling acting brave and Nuverils threat against the pugwampis must have inspired something in him ;)

Nuveril snorts in derision. "Throw the rats down to me, and I'll finish them off," she tells Nano. "But try not to fall yourself. I might not be able to tell the difference between you and a pugwampi before it's too late."
Losk keeps his feet planted firmly where they are. "Eye, you lot throw the little things down, and we'ull finish em off. I aint gettin' any closer to them than this, not with the way luck runs near em."
Losk reloads his crossbow, and waits for the others to position themselves.
I'm off the net for a couple of days now. I'll sort the map of the upper level and a full description then.
People up stairs, please array yourselves on the map provided... :)
For those up the ladder:
A thin balcony overlooks the chapel floor some twenty feet below. Two rows of tall-backed wooden choir chairs dominate the southern reach of the balcony, which hugs the chapel’s concave walls. The balcony falls away—collapsed for a span of perhaps fifteen feet—just on the other side of the choir area. To the east, rickety time-worn wooden rafters stretch across the whole chapel. Two huge sections of these rafters have been engulfed in a sort of nest comprised of a patchwork of random bits of cloth.
The pugwampi you have been chasing are huddled in the corner of area A3f, surrounding what appears to be a slightly larger pugwampi, with a big hammer. He is speaking in a fierce, if high pitched voice. Although you cannot discern his words, his intent is obvious; he is reprimanding his subordinates.
Map of the upper levels. The labels are not quite so good as the other maps, but you'll find they work where they need to, and peter out where it's less important.... :)
The thick lines you can see, which normally represent internal walls, are actually rafters, providing a more solid (you hope) footing than the older wood may provide. Walking on the rafters would be a balance check as described in the skills section of the rpg...
Nuveril keeps a cautious eye overhead, looking for movement. She knows the odds are that the fall itself might kill the pugwampis, particularly if the cause of their tumble is an attack by her companions above, but her scimitar itches to remove rat-like heads from small bodies anyway.
With a sharp curse to the furry gremlins, Pravenha shoulders her bow and follows up the ladder. Once on top she tries to find some steady footing and aim for the rat bastards.
Sorry for the delay folks, really hectic week at work, and probably another this week. I have a 1yr old and a 3yr old to manage today, but should get chance to sort myself out and get a post up....
Normal service will be resumed ASAP...
Jaken, I think you may have gotten confused with the numbering, or where you entered up top....Moving to N6 would be 80ft of movement minimum.....(If you assumed entering at the opposite side, it would be around 30ft...) I've put you at F6 which is the same distance from my point of origin....If you did mean 80ft of movement...How?(I'll admit I was a bit lax with timings...)[ooc]
A few seconds of scrambling sees the three of the group at the top of the ladder, and into the rafters. While Nuveril and Losk ready themselves below.
The Pugwampis arguning amongst themselves don't immediately notice the newcomers [ooc](i.e. You get a surprise round), As Paravenah readys her bow, Jaken cracks off a bolt from his readied crossbow (I think...), and Nano attempts his final ranged spell casting, unfortunatly, as he does so, his footing shifts, and the energetic blast hits the roof, altering the little beasties to his presence.
Hi to everyone. For those of you who havent been following the other thread, after an extended absence (thanks to Nevynxxx for filling in) I am now back on board as DM for this game. Apologies for the disruptions - my schedule is getting bearable again.
From where you currently stand Parvenah and Nano can see the three pugwampis peering out through a 'curtain' of scavenged scraps of cloth, linen and tapestries. They are aiming their tiny bows through gaps in the material and will receive cover from you. Losk and Nuveril can't see the enemy from below, although can make out signs of movement in the canopy above their head.
I know many of you have posted actions, but to start with a clean slate, I'll ask you to go from here. (Note that I've also redrawn the map, so references have changed somewhat).
Initiative:
Nuveril 21
Pugwampis 18
Nano 17
Paravenah 8
Losk 4
The pugwampis poke their heads through the old, dirty fabric hanging from the roof and peer across at Parvenah and Nano. Remaining where they are in the rafters, perched precariously in the roof of the chapel, the nasty beasts release a volley of tiny arrows. Although one sails close to Parvenah, none of them strike their mark.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d3 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d3 ⇒ 3
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d3 ⇒ 3
Losk remains on the ground below, waiting for a clear shot. Nano releases his final acid ray, however the creatures take cover behind the hanging fabric and manage to evade his attack.
I know it's a little confusing, with a shift in DM, new map and so on. We should be back into a semblance of order now. The three pugwampis are hiding up in the rafters, Nano and Parvenah can see them, although they have cover. Nuveril and Losk remain below and currently cant see them at all. Next up are Parvenah and Nuveril...
Nuveril(HP: 51/51 (61/61 raging) F Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 5)
Nuveril glares up at the quivering fabric stretched across the ceiling. "Dwarf," she addresses Losk, "if your sun-lady wants to help us reclaim her temple, would she not grant you some kind of fire to burn away the shroud they're hiding behind?"

the fire bolt description says "hit a single foe", not sure if either a) I can see a foe to target, or if failing that, I can target the cloth....Monty's Call
If I can see a pugwampis to aim at:
A wide grin spreads over Losk's face. "Eye lassie, why didn't I think of that?"
Ranged touch attack at the pugwampis 1d20 ⇒ 19
1d6 ⇒ 1
If I can't see a pugwampis to aim at, but can aim at the cloth:
A wide grin spreads over Losk's face. "Eye lassie, why didn't I think of that?"
1d20 ⇒ 13
1d10 ⇒ 5 Translate that 5 into a letter, and we get a firebolt to cell E19, doing 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage...
If I can't hit anything:
"Ack lassie, I do, but I have to have some corporeal thing to aim at. The goddess doesnee like the waste of her energy."
As the pugwampis cower behind the hanging drapes, Parvenah releases another arrow. Despite the pugwampis' aura of unluck, the arrow strikes true, hitting one a glancing blow. It yelps in shock, however it's tough hide seems to turn away the arrow without suffering any serious damage.
Nano's acid bolt sails close to the partly hidden creatures, however the curtain they are hiding behind takes the brunt of the blast. Meanwhile, Losk fires a burst of flame up into the canopy in the roof. The aged, dry fabric burns fairly readily and small burning pieces of tapestry and other scraps begin to rain down onto the floor below. From within the pugwampis' lair you hear a chorus of barks and yelps as the cowering creatures react with alarm.
Stepping through the fabric walls, the three who have been firing at you from above train their arrows on Losk and Nuveril, stepping into view as they emerge onto the thin beams above. Still shaken by Nuveril's challenge, the creatures' attacks prove ineffective as tiny arrows pelt the floor of the chapel.
From within the curtained off area, you hear a deep growl, followed by a series of short barks and yelps. Those downstairs can see signs of frantic activity within as tiny creatures run across the canopy above. The fire is not great, however it could potentially spread to the dry timber beams holding the roof up.
Losk looks up, confused, "Ack, yea Gods. Where'd more Desna-Cursed monkey come from?"

Losk Hammertin wrote:

Nuveril tosses an amused look at Losk, a mocking smile on her lips. "From monkeys' third-favorite activity, after attacking us and tossing their own filth. With a beard like that, I'd think you'd have learned the facts of life before now, dwarf." Returning her hungry gaze to the rafters, she goes on, "Don't worry. Monkey fur burns as easily as pugwampi flesh."
As the creatures emerge from the canopy, Parvenah fires yet another arrow however as she draws the bowstring back, it slips through her fingers, releasing early as the arrow sails harmlessly across the room.
The three pugwampis you can see scamper across the narrow beam towards the platform where Nano and Parvenah wait. Looking anxiously over their shoulders towards the hooting sound of angry apes. As they run, they discard their bows and draw small daggers although they seem hesitant to engage the two in the upper reacges of the chapel.
From below, Losk and Nuveril can see more movement within the canopy as some unseen creatures begin to fight the small fire ignited by Losk's attack.
What i wouldn't give for a non touch based spell...
Are the 3 "regular" pugwampis or does one of them look like a leader type?
Nano turn towards the sound of his spell with a face in horror and then, feining panick, he grabs Parvenahs arm and starts tugging her toward the ladder.
"just go with it and follow me" Nano says tossing a wink, before climbing screaming down the ladder.
Climb 1d20 ⇒ 11 and 1d20 ⇒ 10 base speed 50' due to expeditious retreat
Bluff for feining panick 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Okay, the idea is to trick the pugwampis into thinking that we are running from the "baboons", hopefully inspiring some kind of likeminded panick in them (espacially since they should still be shaken from Nuverils intimidate), so they will follow us to the floor where Nuveril and Losk can help kill these suckers. It's a pretty long shot..
Frowning slightly, Parvenah attempts to play along with Nano's charade, backing away from the sounds of the baboons with a somewhat unconvincing look of fear before following the halfling down the ladder.
Losk fires another bolt of fire up into the draped material, igniting another small fire and causing shouts of alarm from within. The three pugwampis on the top of the platform look at one another uncertainly, warily keeping an eye out for the baboons as they peer down at the four of you uneasily.
Suddenly, another of the foul creatures bursts from the tent, barking furiously at the other pugwampis, causing them to scurry about with frantic activity, retrieving their bows from where they had discarded them and readying another volley of arrows.
The newcomer continues to bark orders, scowling down below as you wait on the chapel floor. He is draped somewhat ludicrously in some gaudily colored silk material, with a tarnished, silver tiara perched on his head. He looks considerably larger than the other creatures, both in height and girth, and hefts a warhammer in both hands as he strides across the beam towards his cowering troops.
"Ack, now there's interesting." says Losk, as he see's the Pugwami wearing the crown. He closes his eyes again, and concentrates, then snaps open, another ba;ll of fire leaping from his hands.
Fire Bolt 3 of 6 for the day, at the lead Pugwampi
Nano takes out a bottle of oil and hand it towards Nuveril.
"I forgot this when we where up there." he smiles sheepishly
"Think you can throw it long enough to hit the little beasts? Should make a nice fire if Losk can hit it with his fire"
I'm pretty much out of options unless i go into melee.

Nuveril scowls at the bottle of oil, then up at the pugwampis in the rafters. Grunting, she hefts the flask in her hand once or twice, then with a sudden violence hurls it up at the archers. aiming at I5 in hopes of splashing all three and making them more flammable
Parvenah takes aim from the floor below, also directing her attack towards the leader. Despite the aura of unluck, her shot hits home and the self-styled pugwampi king roars with anger and pain.
Losk's shot is not so accurate, the bolt of fire slamming into the roof of the chapel. Nuveril's attack is a little more effective, the three critters flinching as the flask shatters at their feet, splashing each of them with the flammable oil.
Furious at the assault, the king barks orders at his troops, pointing down at you with his warhammer before calling out to whoever is still within the canopy, fighting the spot fires. The three pugwampis on the edge of the mezzanine release a volley of arrows towards Parvenah and Losk. Still intimidated by Nuveril's challenge, their assault is once more ineffective as the tiny arrows glance harmlessly off your armor.
The pugwampis positions havent changed, although there is motion within the curtained off area in the rafters, no doubt more pugwampis are on the way.
Next up:

Parvenah
Losk

"Hit them this time, dwarf," Nuveril growls through gritted teeth. "If we can burn their damnable bows, they'll have to come down and face us." Turning her attention to the crowned pugwampi, her eyes narrow. "Or flee in abject panic if I can skewer their king." Drawing a javelin, she carefully lines up her shot and throws.
