12th of Avoneth

Somewhere east of the Cynderwall mountains

It has been but a few short hours since you left the village of Arkenstone. The villagers, though confused, were much appreciative after you dispatched your fellow team members in an effort to protect them from their murderous rampage. Most fled to the hills to avoid further retaliation, while others hid underneath the floorboards of their homes after the trumpet sounded. You assured them that they would be looking for you, but that they should hide for now until safe.

You turned back only for a brief moment to see streams of black smoke pouring into the sky from the wrecked Behemoths before you turned and ran straight for the mountains. You aren’t sure how long you ran, but it was almost until nightfall when you finally nearly toppled over in exhaustion.

Thoughts flooded your mind as you ran. Thoughts of your family and your co-pilot friends back home who you are sure wouldn’t have participated in such a slaughter. You began to ponder your next course of action; however the main thought in your mind was to run. You need to get as far away from Arkenstone and to cross the Cynderwall Mountains before the soldiers of Andihar catch up to you.

The sun has begun to set along the western horizon and you are now fatigued from running and resting in cycles since you left the village. Your adrenaline has finally begun to wane and you have slowed down to a walk. You have made your way into the hills which has slowed you down even further, and so now you must decide whether to shrug off your fatigue and keep moving or to stop and rest for the night.

His legs beginning to tremble with exhaustion, Alistair pauses for a moment to scan his surroundings for a suitable place to rest.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

With labored steps, Alistair moves to whatever shelter he finds, glancing over his shoulder at the loud sound of a cracking branch. He tenses briefly as his gaze recognizes the form of a hunting cat frighteningly close, but his breath eases out of him in a sigh of relief as he recognizes his friend and companion.

"You shouldn't sneak up on me like, my friend," whispers Alistair.

The cat steps forward out of the growing shadows and shakes his mane, his large yellow eyes watching Alistair intently and almost... playfully. The lion walks up next to the tall, green haired man and drops a mangled hare at Alistair's feet.

Alistair grins to himself at the lion's gift. "I'm afraid I'll have to pass tonight. I can't risk a fire - not until we get to the mountains." He bends down and offers the hare back to the great feline.

With a groan, Alistair lowers himself to the ground after arriving at the spot he found. The lion gingerly lays down beside him, and Alistair absentmindly begins running his hand through the lion's tawny mane. With a sigh, he scans his surroundings, wondering silently how close his pursuers are.

You look around and see several groupings of pine and oak and a scattering of various trees. One of the copses of trees holds what appears to be a firepit which at first glance seems to have been abandoned long ago. You find it to be a suitable place to rest, even if you will not be creating a fire in the convenient pit.

Exhausted, you find it easy to drift off to sleep. Your companion seemed to be quite alert as you laid down to rest. Despite easily falling asleep, your sleep is interrupted here and there by strange dreams that you quickly forget upon waking and taking in your surroundings. Each time you wake up, you notice your feline companion to be wide awake and alert.

After a decent rest, you awaken to the dawn light peering in between the trees. You companion is close by near the edge of the copse pacing back and forth. The lion approaches and sits licking it's chops but seeming eager to move on.
