Lathario: Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I've rolled some checks for everyone (see spoiler above) to save time.

On your way back to the tall building in which your next test will take place, Merisyl intones the arcane syllables of a spell and points a finger up to a window a few floors up. After completing her spell, she whispers a few words, but nobody is able to make out what it is she says.

Zeldin, Garion and Daryan:
She cast message

Finally, after following the judges through the building once more, you reach the circular room in which your tests began. Ferrilinth and Merisyl enter the room alongside you, but Darstave waits in the corridor as the door is closed.

Waiting for you in the room is a large stone cube sitting on the floor, gold and silver filigree decorating its entire surface. The two judges move over to the wall beside the door and stand there wordlessly.

Calixymenthillian wrote:

"Well done," Ferrilinth says, walking over to the group along with the other two judges, "you worked together well, you all made some contribution, though Zeldin's spells did seem somewhat inefficient—"

Merisyl interrupts the elf at this point, "Such is the nature of the magic the boy has at his disposal, against living targets they would have proven more effective." The old woman walks closer to the sorcerer before speaking directly to him, "Sometimes your magic will not be able to overcome your enemies, you should try to find some other way to contribute in case you find yourself in such a position."

Darstave then speaks up with a grin, "You can take a couple of minutes to recover before we head off to the next test, I'm sure you need a little time to catch your breath, despite how easy you make that look."

Zeldin nods in assent at the appraisal of Ferrilinth and seems to agree that his performance was rather lackluster.

When Merisyl interupts he lifts his head and looks right at her. He smiles a small smile and says Thank you, I will remember your words and will do better in the future.

Zeldin stands apart from the others merriment but watching them makes his heart a bit lighter. He is further encouraged by Darstaves words, and realizes that there may still be time to prove his use to the Society"

Calix:
I, Sigil, know about Zeldin's dragon claws. Zeldin does not yet. I have an idea about when he would discover them but being largely self trained and a bit unsure of himself, there is still much he has to learn about himself.

Zeldin eager to find something to contribute takes a step forward and murmers a few words while staring intently at the club.

Calix:
Zeldin casts Detect Magic.

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

Garion approaches the cube and examines it closely, without as yet touching it. Does the filigree appear to have a pattern or is just decoration?

Zeldin:
Do you want to go into more detail on your plans for discovering the claws?

Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Zeldin detects a faint aura of Illusion and Transmutation

secret rolls:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Garion: The filigree does seems to have a pattern, or rather many unconnected patterns.

Please can everybody make a perception check?

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

(Male Human Barbarian 1 (favoured))

1d20 ⇒ 5

1d20 ⇒ 15

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Calix can I check the cube to see if there are any nasty surprises like traps? How does that work?

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

By Desna! I figured it out! I know what this is!

Nik aka Nicephora wrote:

To check for traps and so on takes another perception check as you look over the box in detail.

I'll give everyone a couple of hours to post actions and make the perception check before continuing.

Alexian and Nik:
You briefly heard the faint sound of singing coming from the corridor... whoever it was, he has a very good voice.

Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

To no one in particular... Softly at first while looking down, It is magic. and then louder when no one notices him, It is magic;I do not think it is what it appears to be!

Zeldin:
Spellcraft 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

You briefly hear the sound of someone singing from the corridor, it takes a moment, but you think that the song contains the auditory markings of a spell.

Frowning in curiosity, Alexian says to no one in particular, "Does anyone hear singing?" Looking around, he tries to see if he can find the source of the singing.

Alexian wrote:

Yes, I do... I am not certain, but I think it is someone singing a spell. I do not know which one though.

With something to contribute Zeldin appears more confident and eager to engage the others.

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

"Does the singing come from the cube?"

Garion Tathos wrote:
"Does the singing come from the cube?"

It sounded to me like it was coming from the hall, but I might be wrong.

Alexian starts to reply to Zeldin, when he abruptly stops, giving him a steady, yet unsure look. "Apologies, my friend. I haven't introduced myself yet, the name's Alexian." With that he gives Zeldin a respectful nod.

Alexian wrote:

Zeldin smiles and says plainly It is nice to meet you. I am Zeldin Tarr. Are you the leader of this group or are you all here as I am as individuals? You and the blond make a nice couple.

Zeldins voice is simple and slightly rushed. It appears that he is abit awkward with conversation, almost childlike, certainly younger than his years. Despite this, he seems warm and instantly likable.

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

The only knowledge skill I have any ranks in is geography and I don't think that will help much here, although I will try one thing.

Garion smiles at Nik's enthusiasm. "Yes, Nik, what is it?" He then examines the patterns carefully Knowledge - Geography 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 to see if he can make any match to lands he knows.

"Well met, Zeldin Tarr" says Alexian with a grin,"as for us, we're loosely affiliated, but I can't claim sovereignty over them. As for Nicephora...", Alexian says with some hesitation, "she is not 'with' me...at least in a certain sense." Regaining his usual confident and easy going demeanor, he says "I am just merely here to run my sword thru the guts of those who do not show the proper respect to her or Princess Shuriken."

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

After hearing Alexian's declaration, Garion cancels his plans for a panty raid later tonight. :)

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

I think its a ... CUBE!?
NIK spins towards the corridor
Calistria's sirens! Did you guys hear the voice? Its coming from the corridor!

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

NIK makes a double turn to Alexian:
Run yur sword thru the guts???
NIK dances close to her big champion with a BIG TEASE look in her bright green eyes
Now exactly what do you mean by that? giggle

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Keep talking seXXi like that big man and maybe you ll get your chance to CLAIM SOVEREIGNTY over me for a night! giggle
Turning to Zeldin: a BIG smile at this new friend
Hi Zeldin!

Alexian wrote:

Regaining his usual confident and easy going demeanor, he says "I am just merely here to run my sword thru the guts of those who do not show the proper respect to her or Princess Shuriken."

Alexians last statement startles Zeldin, and having him perform very nicely on the dummies he knows it is not a bluff.

If I come close to the line, could you let me know before hand?he asks earnestly. And then senseing that it might be more of a matter of speaking he smiles as if he meant it as a joke all along.

Nik greets Zeldin and shocks him into near silence again. He murmers something that could be "Hello Nicephora", but it could have been as easily, "I am not a foreigner" or maybe, "I am going to the corner"

Switching back to the task at hand he suddenly blurts,If this is a test to figure out what this thing is, it makes sense to ask the person who might know the most. With that, he strides accross the room, encouraged by Merisyl's kind defense earlier. As he draws near he looses his nerve, and ducking his head he asks, slightly above a whisper, Is there any information that you can give us about the nature of this trial or of the nature of the object in the room? I do not mean to cheat, but if the solution is so simple as to ask, I would like to try that. As he finishes he lifts his head slightly to try to anticipate her reply.

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

By Calistria I gotta say yur sooo right we DO make a lovely couple tho right?
NIK spins to Alexians side again, posing next to her champion
but we're just good friends ... well for now anyways ... but back to the matter at hand: any f you know what this voice is? Its very nice

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Nik turns (gracefully) around the cube again, slowly inspecting it as I casually tippytoe my way around

Calix: I check for possible traps or openings in the cube ... How tall is the cube can we see on top of t? If no can I leap on top?

Nik aka Nicephora wrote:

Alexian nods matter-of-factly at Nicephora, giving an amused smirk. "Well you see, love, I take this here sword and slide it point first into the stomach of the offending individual. Depending on how much he has besmirched your honor, I may even kick him off my blade. There are a lot of options from that point as to what I can do next, but I'm sure you understand"

Nik aka Nicephora wrote:

Upon hearing that, Alexian gives a strangled cough, clearly caught off guard by Nicephora's comments. He tries quickly to regain his composure...and his dignity.

Zeldin Tarr wrote:

"Oh don't worry, Zeldin", says Alexian with a friendly smile,"you seem a decent person, I'd really hate to kill you." Alexian clearly seems to understand that Zeldin was joking, going so far as to steal a line from one of his favorite "plays".

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

Nik, that would be a Perception check +1 for your Trapfinding.

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

ThanX Garion! Calix: let me know if I need to roll a perception for that! or a acrobatics to jump on top of the cube

Nik: The cube is about waist height, so you can easily reach anywhere on its surface. Normanak is right about the perception check.

Merisyl gives Zeldin a small smile, "This is one of Darstave's chellenges, so I'm afraid I cannot give you any clues. But he should be here shortly to give you some guidance."

With that, the door opens and in steps Darstave from the corridor, he looks as though he is about to speak, but when he sees Garion and Nik examining the cube he waits quietly with a pleased expression.

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

Is there still singing from the corridor?

Perception:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

NIK runs her finger on the filigree to see if she can make out a pattern or a crack that would give some clue
Darstave! Good to see you! Is this one of those Magic Boxes created by the Gods and if I open it, all us women will get blamed for it for the end of time by saying we released all the sins or something like that? giggle
Trying her BEST 2 be charming
and who was that charming voice? was it you?

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

Too late, Garion sees the dancer leaning forward to touch the cube,"Wait, Nik, don't touch that, it might be a trap!"

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Maybe, but I just CANT resist Gold! And we have to solve this thing so unless anyone has a better idea ...

Touching the Filigree, Nik notices that several of the metallic strands can be moved on almost imperceptible hinges.

"Why yes, that was me." Darstave answers Nik, "I was just getting ready for this test... and no need to worry, there are no sins inside that old thing."

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Well you have a GREAT voice! Desna's luck! I found hinges on this thing!

NIK checks to see if those hinges seem trapped, if there are no obvious signs of traps she will try to activate the hinges.

"Hmm?" Darstave intones at Nik's exclamation, looking over at her work with interest.

Nik: Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

The hinged strands seem to be mechanically linked together beneath the stone surface of the cube, but it is hard to say what purpose they serve. You can make either a Knowledge(architecture & engineering) or a Disable Device check to find out more.

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Disable Device 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

Nik is distracted! giggle

As Nik prods and twists the strands, the cube emits an occasional click to seemingly random combinations, but nothing obvious happens.

Is anyone else having trouble posting?

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

can i try again or take 10 or 20?

Nik aka Nicephora wrote:
can i try again or take 10 or 20?

You can do any of those, taking 20 will take a few minutes.

(Male Human Barbarian 1 (favoured))

Samant quietly in the corner is watching the goings on of his partners.

It's a giant puzzle box... hmmm let me think if I recall anything about these.

Knowledge History1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

i ll take 20 if the others havent solved things before that . after all cant get worse then rolling a 1 right?

(Male Half-Elf Cleric 1)

"Well, as long as there's no traps," says Garion with a smile. He joins Nik in running his hands over the cube, choosing a side opposite her. "Nik, let's try coordinating our efforts, pressing the same spots on two sides at the same time."

(Female Human (Tien) Rogue 2 (Scout Archtype))

Shuriken takes 20 to search the entire room, especially the cube for any traps and takes 20 to disable any, as well as making sure her kimono doesn't get caught on them.

percpetion (take 20 to find traps)

20 + 7 = 27

disable device (take 20 to disable any traps)

20 + 9 = 29

reflex save, (take 20 to make sure her kimono doesn't get caught)

20 + 6 = 26

(Female Human (from the North- Ulfen) Rogue 2)

"Good Idea Garion! Let's get those hinges opened! Maybe there are GIFTS inside! Hey Shuri! Give us a hand girl!

(Female Human Arcane Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Holy crap you guys are posting fiends! ;)

Perception Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Sabine watches the others as they interact, staying back and guaging each one in turn. Having nothing to do with any of them previously, she is wondering how they'll accept her if she just goes ahead and plays with the cube.
Shrugging her shoulders, she bites her lower lip and moves in to kneel next to Nik, running her hands over the filigree, searching for the hinges she overheard were there.

Disable Device Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 +2 if she is able to use her Thieves' Tools
Another freakin' 1... :/
