Wyvern...definitely a wyvern. You noticed it didn't have any forelegs.

Brignat wrote:
Eyeing Drexel, "We should proceed with caution. Have the magic users look to the runes first." Brignat keeps an arrow on his bow and his eyes to the surrondings looking for more dragons. "I've never actually seen a dragon. Have any of you?"

"And you still haven't seen a dragon. That was a wyvern."

"Of course we will proceed with caution, but there appears to be some brethren lost in this tomb, perhaps we can find them and discover some needed information about where and when we are."

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

I slay the entire party and steal all their stuff so i can continue by myself because they dont post enough >:/

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Haruuc follows the others to the tomb, keeping out of sight as much as possible after the Wyvern spotting.
They reach the tomb and he begins examining the markings in hopes of determining what might lie inside.

Let me know an appropriate Check to make, or you can roll it for me if I can do it. He has Arcana +6, History +3 and Local +6 Knowledges.

You follow the scout to the tomb. When you reach the tomb, you see it is definitely elven in nature, Valenar, by the style of the markings. Krenshk points out the hobgoblin footprints.

As you stand there, you hear a goblinoid scream from inside as a fetid wind blows from the inside of the tomb

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

It sounds as though our brethren are in trouble let us go to their aid.

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

"Aye, let's go." Brignat goes rushing into the burrow with an arrow in his bow. I'm going to blame some of my lack of posting on the boards not showing that there are new posts in the thread. ;)

Hruskin follows behind, clutching his hammer nervously and eyes casting around for danger.

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Haruuc brings up the rear, his Spiked Chain in hand and a spell ready on his lips.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

I watch as everyone goes running in, shrug, and look over to our newly alive hobgoblins.

"Watch the entrance while we are investigating if anything noteworthy happens out here I want you to send a runner in to alert us I will be marking our path with chalk on the walls at intersections. A straight vertical line means we have gone that direction, if it is a plus sign instead means we have backtracked from that passage and continued on. If there is no mark it means we have not gone down that passage yet. Keep a sharp eye out"

then I duck into the tomb following Haruuc

Brignat:

Spoiler:
Make a reflex save, as it's a trap, I'm letting you make the roll.

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

DM

Spoiler:

Reflex save: 1d20+5=21
Better lucky than good anyday!

"It's a trap!"

As you enter the tomb, a large blade jumps from the wall slicing out at neck level toward Brignat, Brignat's darkvision saves him as he sees the blade jump out just in time to slide below it. (all matrix-style).

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Haha "all matrix style"

"Harucc, you are our resident trap expert. See what you can do about that so that it doesn't harm anyone else..."

then I proceed to duck below Brignat's neck level and move to the head of the party next to brignat.

speaking so the party can hear. The other Hobs that we picked up (literally lol) are guarding the entrance to make sure that we don't get an unpleasant visit from behind while we are down here. Haruuc after you finish looking at that trap you can take point to keep a look out for other traps, if we get into an engagement fall back behind me and Brignat and we will cover you in these tight spaces Hruskin you can bring up the rear we shouldn't have too much trouble from that direction. I will be marking the path that we walk on the walls with chalk so that the scouts can find us if they need to warn us of somthing. Lets move out.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Survival, to see if I can find any tracks from our lost Hobs1d20+7=18

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

Laughing, Brignat says, "I kind of needed a shave."

The tracks are old, couple weeks at least.

The corridor continues on for another 50 feet into what would be dark.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

"The tracks are couple of weeks old? yet we just heard a scream echoing out of the bowels of this place? What do you guys think?"

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Once more bristling at Drexel's orders, Haruuc nevertheless continues to bide his time.
He moves on towards the trap and attepts to close down the mechanism.
Disable Device Check. (1d20+8=24)

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

"Smells like a trap to me. Perhaps we should prepare a little surprise of our own?"

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

"What type of surprise did you have in mind? Seeing how this is a tomb it probably wont have normal creatures in it.

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

"One rabbit to lure the foxes into the bear trap."
Basically, I or someone else can move forward alone. Once resistance is encountered, the rabbit fless back to our ambush point where everyone else has readied an action to pop out and strike down. Normally I would say to have the rouge do it but the sneak attack could be more useful later. As a meat shield with a high movement rate, I would be an ideal rabbit. My reflex save is pretty good so hopefully I won't have any trouble with traps.

This is just one tactic. We could go with the whole proceed as a group option.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Drexel Morrow wrote:

Hruskin scowls and stares at the ground. "I'd rather not be the rabbit..."

Haruuc is able to locate the trigger mechanism, so you can bypass it, but he's unable to disable it.

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

"Let's all move ahead then. Hruskin in front looking for traps."

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

I mummer under my breath loud enough for Brignant to hear. "I dont know how useful that is gonna be seeing how well he disarmed this trap..."

Then I speak up and say "everyone keep your head down, we dont want anyone to lose it"

where the hobs that are guarding the entrance close enough to see the trap?

You'd have to ask them, since they're on lookout, so who knows what they saw inside, when they're watching the outer areas.

You sure you don't mean Haruuc? He's the rogue...

DM Dhakann wrote:

Hruskin is TOTALLY not cool with being out front. Not the rabbit, not the rabbit...

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Im sure he did mean haruuc

I call out to the Scouts "Keep your heads down if you come in here after us, there is a trap that will behead you that our friend Haruuc cannot seem to dissarm"

Krenshk yells back: "Hope it doesn't come to that now..."

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

brignat pats Hruskin on the should, "I am sorry my goblin friend. I did mean to use our friend with the know how. You will not be the rabbit."

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Apperently our "friend with know how" was beheaded by the trap, he has not responded in a while...

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Once again, haruuc bristles at Drexel's comments, fingering the chain wrapped around his torso. "Just wait until you are alone," he thinks to him self and grins.
"It was not an easy trap to disarm. I would certainly like to see you even attempt to get us past it in one piece," he responds.
"I will however lead us in and be on the lookout for more traps."

Which cold be difficult considering for some strage reason I neglected to put any ranks into Perception. :/

IC is down yet a gain, so Honour System: Perception Check. 1d20+1 (15+1)=16 ...not bad, but not brilliant either.

Haruuc proceeds scanning the walls and floor for traps.

Haruuc:

Spoiler:
Describe how you accidentally set off a cleverly concealed pressure plate (DC20)...I'll describe the actual effects after you describe your reaction...

The scent of the tomb is stifling, dusty with a faint tinge of decay in the air.

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Haruuc leads them into the passage, peering at the walls in front of him in search of traps, when suddenly he hears a soft click as his foot sinks into the floor slightly. His eyes go wide as he realizes that he should also have been checking the floor as well as the walls. He leaves his foot on the plate for a second, waiting to see what will happen before attempting to remove it and jump backwards.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

Heh, this is starting to remind me of a rogue that I had that I dont think ever successfully found a trap in his entire carrier. Of course that may be partially the fault of the DM that I had at the time

We had an NPC early in 3rd edition called Bob the Disposal Rogue. He found traps mainly through springing them after missing his search checks. We went through 4 incarnation of Bob. Poor Bob. He would steal anything not nailed down, which meant he accumulated quite a bit of treasure, but the rest of the party was too lawful to loot the dead, so he was subsequently buried with his loot.

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

hahaha that was basically me except that my party was most certainly NOT lawful

As Haruuc steps off the plate you hear teh twang of dozens of crossbow strings, luckily it appears these have not been reloaded...

DM Dhakann wrote:

what? no dead bodies? no skellies on the ground? no blood stains? to show that the trap was there?

"HAHAHAHA, Haruuc you are one lucky "trap finder" if it was anyone else that would have had poisoned bolts in it."

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

I had a player that had an anti-paladin in 2ed that would use torch bearers to find traps. People didn't like to get conscripted by him.

"The luck of the Ancients is with you today. Let's hope it lasts."

(Male Hobgoblin Fighter 1 Air Element Sorcerer 1 Rogue 1)

Haruuc doesn't look back at the others as he says, "I knew that the trap was not fully set. I was merely springing it in a precise manner so that none of you would blunder in and think you were being attacked."
He smiles to himself as he continues on down the passage, this time watching the entire corridor...

Why would there be? heh...why would there be bodies in a tomb? hmmm....and whgilst darkvision grants the ability to see in the dark, certain things like ancient bloodstains covered in dust might be a bit difficult...

Another goblinoid screech echoes from deepen in the tomb, as it feels as if the temperature has dropped a few degrees.

Listen Check DC20:

Spoiler:
You hear shuffling and bone scraping in echo in the distance.

(Male Hobgoblin Ftr 4)

Brignat's ears point up at the sound but he can't quite make it out. "Brothers?"
Perception: 1d20+3=13

(Male Human Rogue 1: favored class Rogue +1 Skill Point/ Lv)

1d20+7=24

Silence! there is movement ahead!

From around the corner 100 feet down the corridor, you see several hobgoblins come around the corner dressed in ancient armor. They appear to be shambling though.
