I did give you a reasonable argument for not proceeding.

Shimei shakes his head and makes ready to follow the gladiator.

Slaves! Give them a taste of freedom and they go mad with power! :-)

As if being reasonable has anything to do with Erizi's actions. LOL

good point LOL

"Good lets go in then". "Can you make me big again"? Erizi hasn't taken the time to differentiate between the two new small additions to the group, so either assumes this is the one who did it last time or that they can all do it.

"Wrong halfling" Norn repiles to Erizi sounding as if she is not sure whether she should be amused or insulted.

There is an opening in the far wall which goes towards the overgrown courtyard and another further along that leads to where everyone fought the baboons and some pugs.

The latter leads towards the laboratory area.

.....

Its been about ten minutes and so far no one has come back from the monastery.

Livvy/Nombir/Zaid

Spoiler:
How long do you intend to stay here until you do something different? Just in case.... Please reply in spoilers, thanks.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

FW:

Spoiler:
Unless something happens to change his mind, Zaid plans to stay long enough to recover his ability to memorize spells.

FW, my impression is that we left Nombir and company back at Almah's camp. (The Sultan's claw?) Or are they closer?

FW/Zaid/Nombir:

Spoiler:
Livvy will be fidgety after they've been late fifteen minutes or so, but she won't say anything. She'll wait for Nombir and/or Zaid to indicate that it's time to go.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

FW/Zaid/Livvy

Spoiler:

Nombir will reamin where his until one of the recce party come back and report as requested!!!!!!!

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid seems unconcerned, alternately writing in his journal and making small talk with Livvy and Nombir.

He notices Livvy's worry. "Shimei and Eziri are quite capable, I am sure they are fine and will be back soon."

(Female Halfling Rogue 3)

Norn leads the others back to where they fought the balls of slime.

Zaid/Livvy/Nombir are back up the rocky slope "looking down" at the monastery. About ten minutes or so away.

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

I didn't know they were that close. I thought they were back at the camp or I might have agreed to send for them...Oh well

French Wolf wrote:

When the party heads back towards the monastery it is full dark but that doesn't appear to bother Shimei. The three miles are covered with relative ease, but the rocky outcrops and tangled wilderness do make this a time consuming journey.

Ahead of the party, the odd ghostly cactus steps out of the dark, the occasional creature scurries across the path but by now everyone is getting better able to discern the difference between danger and nature.

The party eventually reaches that same place where they can look down by cold moonlight at the ruined home of Sarenrae. No movement can be picked up but then the poor light and many shadows make matters harder.

Descriptive text is not my strong point but this is just to show I'm not making things up. Don't worry pbp's are notorious for this sort of thing and I'm sure that my reduced posting since Sunday has something to do with it. As a general comment, I don't mind the party splitting up here, I would strongly hint if I did. My only concern would be the "resting" players getting bored but don't worry I'm sure I can look after them. Down the line, this sort of thing may get characters killed, and believe me I have no compunction about taking people out but I try to only do it occasionally...see the discussion thread for tt's post on this.

Is the part I have bolded correct? I missed it on first reading along with where we left the rest of the party. Sorry about my poor reading skills.

Shimei

Spoiler:
It refers to Shimei's tracking roll which was very good, if I remember right, and not some innate superior vision..and thanks for the cold but I'm blaming that viral factory called my son's nursery school. You should have a short email from me by now.

Erizi the Landless wrote:

Norn starts to lead the party of Erizi and Shimei away into the ruins, towards the underground crypt.

I have no issue with you guys suddenly realising you want the other three. Last chance.

"Wait!" Shimei exclaims. "Let me summon the others." He trots to the broken down area of the wall and waves to summon the others.

Thanks for te break, FW

It must be a starry night making it possible for the resting adventurers to see Shimei's wave.

Perception check DC12 to spot Shimei in starlight at distance, Nombir and Livvy get a +2 bonus because they both trying to pay attention.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid looks up from his journal at the right time:

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

"I see Shimei waving. I think they wish for us to join them."

(Male Human Cleric 2)

Perception

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Nombir sees Shimei waving as well.

"Ok, Livvy and Zaid, follow me, but keep your eyes open". Nombir breaks cover and runs crouched from cover to cover until he reaches Shimei, whilst keeping an eye on Zaid and Livvy, to make sure they are with him.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Forgot the bonus for paying attention, but it worked out.

Quietly, "Oh, good! I was starting to worry they'd run off without us!"

She does her best to stay close to the longlegs, but her stride is just too short. "I'll be there shortly, Nombir, worry not."

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid moves along at Livvy's pace, not wanting to leave her behind.

Soon everyone is together and heading down into the ruins of the undercrypt.

Once in the darkness, Livvy's blue and green dancing lights lead the way to the end of the crypts where the door is still shut.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Ok, who is good at opening doors then?" chuckles Nombir and looks at Simei and Norn funnily enough.

"Should I ready my flames in case the... thing tries to jump out?"

I thought that we killed two of two creatures within, but someone commented that there was still something in there. Her magic was effective, so...

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Yes, that's a good idea Livvy" nods Nombir approvingly.

Just reread the mold combat. Livvy finished off the one that played hide and seek in the drain. Norn had smacked the other and it had drawn itself back together, but "hadn't moved" after that. So both may be dead or one (the one that attacked Erizi?) may still be alive.

Shimei takes the rear of the party again. He doesn't care for these tunnels or the bones. The yellow dog stays at the top of the stairs.

Norn is more of a door-opening expert anyway.

You're right -- I'm probably assuming too much about the one that stopped moving.

Livvy will position herself alongside the door that will remain closed so that when the other door is opened, she will be able to send her Burning Hands through the open doorway as soon as necessary.

Readied action to light up any threats that present themselves in the doorway.

(Female Halfling Rogue 3)

Norn attempts to open the door

At the rear of the group Shimei tightens his grip on his new battle ax, gazes with suspicion at the scattered bones, and looks longingly at the stairs back to the surface.

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

Erizi steps up behind the two small ones he can't tell apart, and prepares to face any danger which might be present...Hammer and Battle-cry at ready.

As Norn opens the door, the laboratory looks to be as before. Tables, papers, alchemicals and its equipment, and no visible patches of mold about.

Who wants to go in?

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"I'll go in first with Erizi. Livvy, stick close to us and blast anything that looks nasty, other than Erizi of course!!" Nombir laughs, slaps Erizi on the shoulder and draws his greatsword.

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

Well that's a silly question ;).

On the face of it, yes, but not really when no one posts other than Nombir to say what everyone is doing. Should I just take it as read that what Nombir says goes? That is a dangerous precedent to set but I can do that if you want. DMing means never taking things for granted.

Erizi and Nombir step forward side-by-side into the quiet laboratory. There are dark stains visible where the molds stopped fighting.

Behind them Livvy steps into the entranceway, just as a gushing green mold flies out of the pipe next to her, into the back of Erizi. Attack on Erizi 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (7) - 3 = 4 The mold ends up just in front between the pit fighter's legs.

A second mold drips down the doorway above Livvy, aiming for her head. Attack on Livvy 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (8) - 3 = 5 This one lands just in front of Livvy and behind Nombir.

sorry! I was just joking around. I'll post more seriously

Erizi slams his mighty hammer at the mold.

Earthbreaker Attack (1d20+8=17)

Damage (2d6+7=11)

(Female Halfling Rogue 3)

If able Norn will charge one of the slimes and attack it

Attack

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Damage

1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid guzzles one of his elixirs.

The elixir of arcane power gives Zaid a full allotment of spell-like abilities for the day, but does not enable him to memorize spells, correct?"

Bad day, sorry for seeming terse, but yes to everything Zaid and I'll post later.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

Nombir will slash at the nearest mold.

Attack 1d20 ⇒ 12

Damage 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

I was fine with Nombir's suggested action, but I should have said as much, sorry for the silence.

Livvy jumps back (10', please) and throws a gobbet of acid at the mold that narrowly missed her.

Attack with Point Blank Shot 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Acid damage with PBS 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Erizi's blow shatters the front mold into inconsequential pieces, and Tempest sings back up to his shoulder.

Meanwhile Nombir and Norn combine to cut up and destroy the second mold. Its all quiet in the lab again. Bits of slime start to dribble down into the drains in the floor, carried along the uneven channels of the floor.

No probs Livvy.

Livvy will use her Acid Splash on the bits of slime until she cannot see any more of them, trying to destroy them before they go into the drain.

"It's a mold, right? Perhaps being torn apart doesn't really hurt them -- maybe they are just flowing down into the drains and reassembling, you know?"

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

"Perhaps is reforms somehow" Erizi shouts! "Stop it from moving".

Erizi looks around for something to contain the mold.

Ninja!

From his position at the rear, Shimei hefts his ax uselessly.

NIce work guys.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Quickly! Search the room while we can"

The captured mold sits waiting in the flasks, in pieces they does not attempt to escape its glass prisons. Perhaps because the fungal monsters are in fact dead?

Searching the room quickly at the same time, Nombir manages to find a sheaf of alchemical papers that look important. They must hold pretty detailed instructions given that the narrow text covers both sides of eight pages. and includes careful drawings of necessary apparatus like that which sits around the party on the benches.

Soon Nombir is back at the entrance again with Erizi and Livvy in tow.

The Papers upon close inspection

Spoiler:
These include full instructions covering the construction of restorative ointment and marvellous pigments, making the papers worth up to 300gp to the right buyer.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Hey Zaid look at these". Nombir passes the papers to Zaid.

Zaid

Spoiler:

These include full instructions covering the construction of restorative ointment and marvellous pigments, making the papers worth up to 300gp to the right buyer.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"These are very interesting indeed." Zaid says to Nombir. "I would like to transcribe a copy of them, then we can sell the originals."

FW:

Spoiler:
Do these instructions allow one to make the items without the feat and spell requirements? Do they describe any materials needed to make them?
