Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

Initiative (1d20+3=20)

In Gnoll "Stop wiggling or I will squash you"! Erizi exclaims with a smile.

Intimidate (1d20+2=9)

Since the gnoll probably doesn't trust him, if he tries to run Erizi will attempt to squash him.

Earthbreaker attack (1d20+9=27)

Earthbreaker Damage (2d6+9=15)

If the gnoll stops trying to escape Erizi will not attack. If he does oh well I warned hiim

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

When he sees the gnoll try to get away Zaid jumps on him.

Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 12

"Don't kill him Eziri!"

Zaid grabs for the gnoll but it just slips free and seeing the look of Erizi takes a last few fatal steps away, before turning to run.

He never makes it, Tempest crumples the gnoll to the ground.

So close Rimrock, so close. Good idea though.

Seeing another gnoll crushed brings a small smile to Livvy's face, but she quickly hides it. She returns to searching for anything of use on the gnoll corpses.

Shimei draws his bow and looses at the fleeing gnoll.

Shot 1: 330 feet

1d20 + 3 - 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 - 6 + 1 = 12 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Shot 2 : 450

1d20 + 3 - 8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 8 + 1 = -3 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

His shoulders slump as the gnoll slips out of range. This does not bode well.

Shimei trudges back toward the others.

Thank you for the chance anyway, FW.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid looks at the crumpled bloody mess on the ground.

"Well that was a waste of a spell, a life, and a chance to obtain useful information."

(Male Human Cleric 2)

Nombir looks knowingly at Zaid and nods in agreement. "Erizi, you're a fine warrior, but you must keep your temper under control. Oh, and we all need to remember to tie the prisoners up in the future please!".

"You are a fool" "What information do you wish to extract from a dog". "I will tell you the information". "They are stupid, stinking brutes, who know only violence and treachery". "They do not deserve a chance to live, so I killed this one, and will kill the next one". "He was given the opportunity to surrender, and foolishly chose to die". "If you wish to be friends with them, then trail the one that got away, and pay them a social visit".

"And I am sorry you wasted your precious spell upon healing my arrow wound". "Here is the arrow, if you wish to stick it back in".

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

Nombir Kadesh wrote:

"Temper"? "What do you mean temper"? "I am not angry, just do what needs to be done". "Most of these many scars upon my body came from hesitating, so I do not do so". "However, your point is made". "When the next combat comes I will wait inside with fresh roast baboon, and let you tie up the whole tribe". "Then you can break bread and gnaw marrow with them to the content of your heart".

With that comment, Erizi turns to go back inside the Monastery and finish dinner, grumbling under his breath about fools dying early.

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

Hope you guys realize I'm just playing Erizi's 6 charisma, not trying to be a distraction. If I need to tone him down a bit, just let me know

Real Life has got me by the short and curlies tonight, speak again tomorrow. Cheers.

Shimei gets back in time to see Erizi disappear into the monastery. He looks at the others and then down at the dead gnoll. A grim smile creases his face and he nods.

"The fourth one escaped. We should eat and then prepare to leave. The dogmen run fast. He will be back with his pack for revenge."

Although concerned about the escapee, Shimei is exulting inside. Three! So easily. Truly it is better to hunt with these than alone.

Before going in to eat Shimei will look over the dead bodies. He's mostly looking for weapons (I currently don't have a good primary melee weapon and if the gnoll's arrows are good quality and length I'll take those.) but he's also looking for marks as to the tribe of these gnolls.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"I imagine the baboon has burned by now. Hopefully we don't have to eat roast gnoll."

You have already sent up smoke signals telling the valley that the monastery is now a crematorium. One gnoll will just confirm that.

Erizi finds a blackened baboon, which is tender and sweet meat in the centre.

Everyone gets 200 xp for that encounter.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Lets eat then and decide what to do next". Nombir sits with Erizi and starts eating.

Shimei joins the others at the baboon feast. "Good work, " he congratulates Erizi, but further comment on Erizi's impressive lethality is beyond him. "how's the meat?"

He takes his knife and cuts some strips of meat from the baboon. He tosses a couple into the corner where the dog lays.

Darn. Was hoping to reach 2nd level on the backs of those gnolls. Maybe they had something useful?

I'll sort out what the three gnolls had on them. Its mostly primitive kit but who knows? I am hoping that little extra encounters like that will help balance the xp against the fact that there are six of you.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"Zaid sits next to Nombir and eats some of the baboon.

"I suggest we continue to explore the crypts."

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Fair enough Zaid, that seems reasonable. What about the rest of you?". Once Nombir finishes he will wait for the others to answer whilst keeping an eye for Gnolls etc.

Watching Erizi to see if he has any reaction to the idea of re-entering the crypts, Livvy agrees, "Yes, I think there's more to see down there."

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

"Yes" I would like to return". "but keep in mind, if it is dangerous or even looks at me wrong, I will kill it", Erizi says with a deep belch, and wiping of his greasy hands on his leather armor.

Shimei stops chewing a strip of meat and pulls it out of his mouth. "We need to move on. Four gnolls we defeated easily, but more will return with the one that escaped. We should make a large arc back toward Almah's camp and try to cover our tracks so that the gnolls do not follow us there."

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"Good suggestion Shimei. If we are agreed, we eat and then we follow Shimei's route"

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"Am I correct in assuming we plan to return to the monastery later? If that is indeed the case, then I agree. I could use the rest."

The halfing sorcerer shrugs her shoulders as she eats a strip of baboon, "Yeah, that sounds good, too."

(Female Halfling Rogue 3)

"srpprhh grrph tr mrr" Norn mumbles whilst chewing on Baboon

Norn Jural wrote:

Smiling, Livvy nods, "And Norn agrees, too!" ;-)

Zaid Al-Mahaudin wrote:

"We are pledged to take this place for our mistress. We must return, but in a few days. Let the gnolls think we were passing through or have fled."

I'll move this along a bit.

The journey back to through the desert to the Sultan's Claw is uneventful, hot but no attacks or excitement. Lady Almah and Garavel have gone out on a hunting patrol but the Father Zastoran will help with any necessary healing and the like upon everyone's return.

The Lady is due back at dusk in a few hours.

(Male Human Cleric 2)

Back at the camp Nombir chuckles and says "that could have gone better, but at least we are all alive and Erizi has a new toy!."

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"Yes, it is magnificent. When it is convenient for you Eziri I would like to examine it."

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

"I'm not sure you even have the strength to lift it...but here, go ahead". Erizi says shoving the fine new hammer towards the man.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

Zaid struggles to hold the hammer tuning it over and looking at it closely.

Appraise: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

"I will have to wait until tomorrow to attempt to fully ascertain its properties."

"Can I help?" Assuming assent, she casts Detect Magic and studies the hammer alongside Zaid.

Spellcraft 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Appraise 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Shimei seeks out Hadrod. "What news in the camp while we were gone?"

Zaid

Spoiler:
It is a very well made earthbreaker, the metal is unusual and some kind of alloy alien to you, but it is definitely a magical hammer, although most of its power appears to be hidden or dormant at the moment. There are no markings just black metal with a swirling pattern of stars like miniature diamonds covering the head. Its head is clean as if the blood and gore from the gnoll did not stick to the weapon for long.

Livvy

Spoiler:
It is a very well made earthbreaker, the metal is unusual, some kind of alloy that is not elven or dwarven but maybe extraplanar, possibly even linked to the power of the genies, known for their wish magic, in some way.....although most of its power appears to be hidden or dormant at the moment. There are no markings just black metal with a swirling pattern of stars like miniature diamonds covering the head. Its head has self cleaned as if the blood and gore from the gnoll did not stick to the weapon for long.

Shimei finds Hadrod still a little out of sorts. He stomps off when he sees the priest approaching but his wife Hadrah is more amenable and comes over to talk.

"He misses his goat, Rombard. He loved that goat. He keeps looking out over the hills to see if he can spot another. Poor fool isn't he?"

"I am sorry about the goat. When I can, I will bring him another, but they keep to the higher hills. He'll not find another here."

"Have you anything to eat? We've had a long journey today."

"Of course, I have started to prepare the Mistress' food but I can make you warriors something simple too. A stew?"

"Anything you make will be fine, but do not trouble yourself overmuch. A handful of dried dates or figs will keep us just as well."

(Male Human Cleric 2)

Nombir looks at Zaid and Livvy. "Have you found out anything about the hammer?"

(Female Halfling Rogue 3)

Nombir Kadesh wrote:

"Is it valuable?" Norn asks

(Male Human Cleric 2)

"I think it could be very valuable Norn. Erizi had better take care of it, which I don't think will be a problem from what I've seen so far!"

(Male Human (Keleshite) Wizard (conjurer) 2)

"It is magical, but its abilities appear to have been suppressed for now."

(male Human (Garamundi) Fighter 1 (Unbreakable))

"A hammer is a hammer". "It can do nothing without someone to swing it". "It is I who wield it with great skill". "It just does what it was built to do". "Though I admit it is extremely well balanced".

"Shemei, This smells better than your food".

Erizi the Landless wrote:

"Shemei, This smells better than your food".

"After a long march, all food smells and tastes better."

I'll move things along later tonite. Just voting for the Superstar competition.

Livvy continues to look over the weapon. "Unusual metal, possibly very old. It's very well-made -- while it requires a wielder that can use it," she looks at Erizi, "it's designed to help the wielder get better results than some smith's hammer out of the forge.

"I don't recognize these markings, but I agree with Zaid -- this weapon has secrets - powers - it has chosen not to reveal as of yet. Perhaps as you become more familiar with it," this last directed at the former gladiator.

Nicely put, Livvy.

Hadrah smiles when Shimei makes her job much easier. She borrows a few dates and figs from the small silver platter prepared for her Lady. Adds a large wheel of dark heavy bread and a pot of thick goats cheese. Then also gives you a parcel of day old roasted lambmeat. "Here."

....

A few hours later Almah returns and jumps from her camel straight into her tent without a word to anyone. Garavel on the other hand comes over for your report of the monastery.

He also mentioned that he has spitted a pair of gnolls on his lance this very afternoon, probably trying to scout the Sultan's Claw.

Shimei thanks the shepherdess-cook and returns to the main party bearing the food, and shares it out.

When Garavel returns Shimei remains respectfully quiet, waiting for one of the others to make the report. Garavel's news disturbs him though.
