Shimei steps on a piece of parchment that sticks to his foot, shaking it off reveals that the "glue" is excrement. The parchment shows some kind of religious text underneath.
Text (if read)
Spoiler:
And the lantern that shines from ones heart is the lantern of hope and truth. Never let that light be dimmed by the weak or failed by lies.
Shimei will recognise this are a section of one page from the bible of Sarenrae's faith, called The Birth of Light and Truth.
There are several more pages dotted about the floor or stuck to the stone wall up to about two foot off the ground.

From the right hand side, it becomes more obvious that there the ladder actually leads up twenty foot and onto a wooden balcony with individual alcoves seats. There are two rows of these seats, the back ones are higher than those in the front. These were for the choir. The edges of the balcony show the splintering and damage that time and poor weather has caused. One or two of the seats has tatty rugs draped over the armrests.

Perception check DC14 (Erizi/Zsith/Zaid only)
Spoiler:
A hulking shape with a hairy back is trying to hide behind the last pew on the left. It briefly raises its head to show fangs then the creature, the baboon ducks out of sight again.

The rafters look wide enough to walk on, they do sag at various points but not a great deal.
The party are gradually nearing the front of the nave on the right hand side, about two pews to go.
Shimei looks breifly at the paper as he tries to scrape it off his shoe onto a pew. Ugh. Disgusting. A camel is cleaner. He decides to read the paper after the upcoming fight.
Shimei knows the text well, the bible pages have been torn out and s!+#ted on. Most are either stuck to the walls low down or paper-mache the altar front and sides. Looks to be all 77 pages.
Shimei recognizes the symbol of Sarenrae illumined on the paper scrap. Sacrilegious little toads. Bow-father bring them justice. Sighting down his arrow, he scans the room, ready to draw and loose. No need to distract the others. He'll tell them about the paper after the fight.
I presume they're in the hanging tent. I'm kind of surprised they haven't attacked yet.
A tiny arrow slashes in at the party from behind. It flies past Shimei and lodges in the wall. The arrow must have come from near the entrance. Whirling at the danger, everyone sees a misgotten son of a devil-imp dog-faced pugwampi duck behind the back pew out of sight.
Initiatives, unfortunately I am holiday after this until Monday evening so talk amongst yourselves. Note that while you are in the nave you suffer the bad luck of the pugwampis so roll 2d20s whenever you should roll 1.
"Watch our backs!" Shimei spins back toward Erizi and the area where the sound came from. He steps sideways, trying to keep his arrow lined up where he expects to see a target and moving to where he'll have a better line of fire around the pews. He waits for Erizi to flush out whatever is hiding there.
That hunched silver-backed creature moves around the far pews and disappears among the clutter. It is hiding somewhere in the middle of those western pews but where is anyone's guess.
Then as if the first arrow was a signal, a barrage of arrows fly down from the choir balcony seats. Four pugwampis are using the drapes and seats to provide a little cover, their arrows are not aimed at anyone in particular.
One arrow at Shimei hits, doing 3pts of damage, one hits Zsithreminni and also does 3pts of damage.
Then a surprise arrow comes out of the gnoll skull chandelier hanging in the middle, straight at Zaid. The tiny arrow sticks in his shoulder and unluckily he drops the spell component he was fingering, but he can get another. Zaid takes 2 pts of damage.
As everyone acts, the first pugwampis near the entrance takes another pot shot at Zaid to stop his spell but misses and the arrow snaps on the stone wall, "puddah!!"

Baboon 21

Erizi 8 (I rolled for him)

Nombir's holy wash of Abadar's righteousness sets the party on edge, on edge to fight or flee though? Bless goes active.
The party is strung out from the altar (Erizi) back around the right hand wall as they entered about twenty feet to Shimei and Zaid.
Supposing the Bless is Nombir's round 1 action and I'm up.
The little arrow strikes home and diverts Shimei's attention just as the silverback scuttles to a new hiding place. Deprived of an easy target, the nomad swings his bow upward to sight on one of the archers in the choir.
If Erizi spots the silverback, he heads in that direction determined to finish off this beast. The pugwampi's are too aggrevating for him to fight. Let the others take care of them, he wants something big and furry to pound on.
.....t slips in a pile of "glue". The arrow sails high and wide.
Great stuff tt, I laughed out loud when I read about the glue. Yes north is to the right and west is up, the party starts roughly in the north-east "corner".
Zsithreminni lifts up her crossbow and aims for the pug in the chandelier but Erizi steps right across her path, lifting his hammer just as the bolt flies. ting, NPC attack rolls 17 and 5. No luck.
Erizi moves down the central aisle and past the debris, under the chandelier then spots the baboon lurking down the middle of the first unbroken alley. He moves right up to creature that hisses as it notices the warrior.
Zaid starts chanting and a small pinpoint of swirling golden energy forms before the wizard.
I am conscious that you guys post regularly so I'm going to bring in the NPC actions for anyone missing a day or so during the fight. Its something I hope you all approve of.
The baboon attacks Erizi. The silver-back looks healed and rips at the warrior's legs looking to bring him down and disembowel him. But Erizi sidesteps the swipe.
However the pugwampi in the chandelier shoots almost directly down at the warrior, a head shot, but he too misses.
Zaid draws the attention of another, near the entrance, but everyone hears a twang at the bowstring snaps. "Puddah!"
The pugs on the far balcony haphazardly fire at any old target. Indiscriminate arrows fire around the nave. One hits Nombir, another hits Zsithreminni and the last one cuts into Zaid's hand.
Nombir takes 2pts of damage, Zsithreminni takes 3pts and Zaid takes 1pt. Zaid, could you make two concentration check to keep casting. Please use the new rules, i.e. 2d20 at +5 vs a DC of 12 to keep the casting going.
Erizi's blow caves in the head of the baboon, as it falls it looks at the warrior in surprise.
Good rolls, scranford.
Zaid would need to be right under the balcony to reach the pugs with a 15 ft cone so he can go for the one at the entrance. I'll make its save when Shimei and Zsith have posted.
Nombir crouches behind the pews, in cover and changes weapons, only to see Zaid lose his spell to another arrow. Erizi splatters the baboon and Shimei uses Erizi for target practice and misses.
NPC for Zsithreminni The clever girl takes a shot at the pugwampi in the chandelier and misses.
Then Zaid runs back around the wall towards the entrance and a cacophony of colours explodes from his fingers fanning over the single pug that broke his bow, the eyes roll up and the ugly gremlin falls in a heap.
The ones on the balcony see the wizard's work and three target Zaid, while the clever one waits.
Two little arrows catch Zaid doing 5pt of damage.
The other one in the chandelier, starts climbing its rope above Erizi back towards the rafters. The pug scampers up with its tiny bow bobbing on its back as it goes.
"Moknok! Moknok!" he shouts upwards towards the nest of silks and other materials.
Erizi spits on the corpse of the Baboon, and looks around for the rope used to lower the chandelier for lighting and maintenance. If he finds it he moves towards it, determined to cut the rope and bring the light crashing to the ground, along with whatever else is hiding in it. If this is not available, he looks for the closest way up into the second level, and makes his way in that direction.
Shimei sees the volley small arrows strike Zaid. Nombir will help him. They are targetting the caster. Perhaps I can draw their fire.
Shimei mutters a plea for protection to the Bow-father. He immediately follows that by screaming a string of challenges and curses at the pugwampi as the rainbow hues of an entropic shield rise and swirl around him.
Unfortunately entropic shield only has a range of personal or I'd have cast it on Zaid. Next round I will have to try serious Robin Hood stuff. On which subject, FW if I cast guidance will it apply to both attack rolls?
Spells like guidance will apply to both dice rolls.
NPC Zsithreminni
The girl takes careful aim at the climbing pugwampis, unfortunately her arm catches on the rotten pew, skewing the crossbow around to point at Nombir, the bolt is triggered and flies out just missing his face. Zsithreminni smiles nervously at the priest.
Erizi can see the chandelier rope travels up and over the rafter then is strung across to be tied off at the choir balcony where the four pugwampis are playing scoot-an-shoot with Zaid.
A double move gets Erizi to the base of the ladder and he can climb 10ft up. The ladder is another ten foot high and then its the balcony trapdoor, which is unfortunately closed.
Erizi is on the ladder, Zaid has shot a pug (but failed to kill it), Shimei is casting spells behind a pew and Zsithreminni is nearby using a crossbow dangerously. Nombir also aims at the pug scampering up the chandelier rope but he misses too.
Unfortunately I have to prep a tabletop game of Crypt of the Everflame for tonite, I'll this continue in the morning.
The pugwampi climbs up and off the chandelier rope and runs along the rafter towards the silks and other material.
"Moknok, Moknok!" he shouts.
Of the four on the choir balcony, two decide to leg it back to the central rafter, as Erizi starts up the ladder. The wooden rafter and the balcony has started swaying, alarming them. The last two back to the rafter and prepare to sell their lives dear.
One aims for the top of the ladder and the other aims for where Zaid is hiding.
does Erizi think he could bring down the swaying balcony by using brute force from the ground
Yes he does.
The rafters don't look that strong and this side of the nave is more exposed so that the entire choir balcony could be brought down in some fashion. The wood has taken alot of beating from the sun and wind over time.
At the moment, Erizi is halfway up, carrying his earthbreaker in one hand.
How does he intend to do this? Bear in mind that the ladder isn't that close to the rafters...
Erizi gets an evil smile on his face and drops to the ground. This is exactly what Earthbreakers are made for...besides caving in Baboon skulls. he then looks for a support beam to start breaking loose.
"Everybody out from under this thing" Erizi shouts. "I'm going to bring them down to us".
Surrounded now by a hemisphere of shining evanescent color, Shimei steps away from the choirloft to get a better firing angle. He begins a low-voiced chant of praise of the Bow-father's marksmanship as he stands tall, draws and fires.
Can Erizi take a swing at the support, which is a bit stronger (being under cover) and will require a solid hit against AC10. There are three supports to keep the balcony up, all in a row. Taking out two should be enough.
Everyone else fires magic and missiles at the pugwampis but miss terribly, perhaps thanks to realising what Erizi is about to do.
