The sky begins to darken as you approach the town of Harkenwold. Normally such a small place would not warrant the attention of one such as yourself. However, a recent series of disapperances in the area and rumors of cult activity has attracted the attention of your superiors and they have sent you to investigate. As you approach the town, you begin wondering about accomadations. However, before you can even begin to look for a place to stay, you are jarred into readiness by a muffled scream coming from near the town church.
Jake and Elmo
Spoiler:
The night is young and so are you. The two "heroes of Harkenwold" make their way toward the Silver Gryfon Tavern to enjoy another night of free drinks and adulation. Sure all you really did was drive off a wolf that had been menacing a shepheress, and really you had just stumbled on the scene by accident, but none of that mattered to the villagers. Even the fact that Elmo is a kobold didn't matter once the brave priest of Corellon vouched for him. You have almost reached the tavern when you hear a women's scream coming from the direction of the local church.
Yrenn
Spoiler:
On the way to Fallscrest, you have had to stop for the night in the town of Harkenwold. It is not much of a town, but at least it offers a comfortable bed and hot meals. No camping tonight, you are going to enjoy this. You also met an old sage who offered to let you have a look at some ancient texts that are in his library. He claims that they tell the ancient history of this region, but he is unable to read the language they are written in. You are on the way to his home when you here a person scream from nearby the village church.
Logan
Spoiler:
You have just ridden into Harkenwold, looking for a chance to replenish your supplies and perhaps visit with some of the local girls. As one of Baron Stockmer's road wardens, you are constantly on the move, patrolling the King's Road between here and Fallscrest. It is your duty to keep the roads clear of the dark creatures and bandits that dwell in the Harken Wood, and you have become somewhat of a local hero in the process. As you push open the door of the small house that is avalible for you to use while you are in town, you suddenly here the sound of a woman screaming coming from the direction of the church.
"'Zooks! a damsel in distress; this definitely sounds like a job for the 'Heroes of Harkenwold'. old chum!" Jake cries as he bounds up from his seat. "Let's go!"
Sigh, I truely hope this one is at least cute. Logan takes a swig of his bottle of whiskey then places it on the table. As he strings his bow and rushes toward the door, he takes a moment to look back at the bottle with a sly grin, Later. Logan rushes to the church.
Elmo never hesitates for a second. "Must be a good reward for rescuing a damsel, old pal. Onwards! Whoever our foe may be, let them tremble before our might. We haven't rescued any damsels for a long time."
With out hesitation Ba'az pulls the falchion from off his back a runs at full speed to the church and charges inside. "Beasts of black hearts tremble before my righteous wrath".
Ba'az, Jake, Elmo, and Logan arrive in time to see three small shaodowy figures pulling at an attractive blonde woman. They seem to be trying to drag her toward a drainage grate wich is being held open by a fourth creature.
Yrenn can see several people rushing towards the sound of the screams. At least one is a dragonborn dressed in gleaming chainmail and weilding a falchion
Logan smiles to himself, She is cute. Seeing others swarming towards the woman, he intently marches toward the shadowy figure holding the gate while furiously firing his bow. "HEY Gate keeper! I've got something for ya!"
Ba'az roars at the largest of the group, a divine force infuses his words, "Ioun commands you halt and face me, surrender now and avoid the pain of battle"
I mark the largest with my devine challange.
Jake and Elmo recognize the girl from around town but have never been properly introduced. Since two of you are initiating combat actions, I'm going to need initative rolls.
Init. [19,3] = (22)
Move action: move toward creature holding grate
Minor action: use hunter's quarry on creature (assuming it is closest)
Standard action: Twin strike with long bow (assuming no enemies within melee range)
Pat512 uses Google spreadsheets - check out his profile for examples. I can't get them to work for me, but I'm a tecnical numpty. With no scanner, a spreadsheet posted to a photobucket account might be your best bet.
Twin Strike with Long Bow & prime shot(assume no PC closer):
Att 1: [10,6] = (16); Dam 1: [5] = (5)
Att 2: [18,6] = (24); Dam 2: [1] = (1)
Hunter's Quarry Dam(1d8): [6] = (6)
(Edited: forgot twinstrike doesn't allow dex bonus to damage)
MapI tried the spreadsheet thing, but it did not really work for me either. I also tried using autorealm, but could not figure out a way to save it in a usable format. Hope this helps.
Edit: You are entering from the area behind the blacksmith shop.
Logan's first shot soars just past the shadowy figure holding up the grate, but the second shot elicits a satisfying grunt of pain. The small creature drops the grate and points a rod of some sort at Logan.
1d20+7=12 vs. Will Logan feels a stinging sensation as a glowing ray strikes him and the world goes dark. 2d6+1=9 and Logan is blind, save ends.
Meanwhile a larger, more human figure pushes the grate off the hole and shouts, "hey, why did you drop the bloody thing." Seeing the approaching heroes he says "oh" and reaches for his sword.
In case I'm not around when Elmo's turn comes up, I'm posting in advance.
This is a bit of a a what if scenario, but let's see. If Elmo can use Lightning Lure to set up a flank with Jake or anyone else (preferably someone with a decent melee attack), he'll do that on the nearest enemy. If he can't, he'll use Frigid Blade on the nearest foe. If he takes the Frigid Blade option, he'll want to end his turn next to whatever he hit so the foe takes the -3 penalty to speed. Don't forget the wee blister can shift as a minor action.
Jake yells, "Feel the spark of inspiration, evil-doer!", and follows up with "Go get 'em, Elmo!" as a bolt of lightning flies towards the newcomer to the fight. The large man.
Jake's bolt of lightning streaks across the battlefield and strikes the large figure dead on. A second bolt of lightning lashes out from Elmo's blade and surrounds the figure, literally dragging him to a spot right between Elmo and Jake. Yrenn's light spell provides some illumination, revealing your opponents to be one human male and four goblins. However her magic missile misses the wand weilding goblin.
One of the goblins continues to pull on the womans arm, as they inch closer to the open grate. The other two rush forward and and launch into attacks against you. Rushing Ba'az, they jab spears at him. One of the spears glances of Ba'az's armor without doing any damage, but the other strikes true. 1d20+6=12, 1d20+6=24 for 1d8+2=6 damage.
With the sound of hacking cough Ba'az spews forth a cloud of acid engulfing the two villians attacking him. enlarged breath weapon also I'm using my phone to post this so I can't link the rolls on this post the following will have the roll link.
Logan drops his bow and whips out his long swords. Being unable to see, he whips them through defensive manuevers as he tries to blink away the spell. Muttering the whole time, "Splat noodle dirt!"
Spoiler:
Goblin for "I'm going to cut them into sweet meats!"
Free Action: drop bow.
Minor Action: draw long sw.
Minor Action: draw long sw.
Standard Action: second wind. gain 6 hp. +2 all defs. until start of next turn.
Save vs. Blindness: 1d20=16
Ba'az's acid breath washes over the first goblin warrior, but the other one manages to duck out of the way. The goblin that attacked Logan rushes forwrd and swings his rod at Logan, but stumbles and misses. 1d20+7=11 The human swings his mace at Elmo and lands a solid hit. 1d20+4=249 damage and Elmo's stunned until the end of the human's next turn.
"My thanks comrade. Together we will avenge this insult to our talents."
Finding himself unable to do anything useful, Elmo contemplates his next actions with exceptional intent, focusing particularly on demolishing the human with the mace.
"Save the lady!" he adds, seeing the cloaked goblins hauling her inexorably towards the drain.
The goblin let's go of the girl as Yrenn's ray hits it. The girl runs scraming and ducks behind a nearby barrel. The goblin that Yrenn hit turns and chucks a javelin at her, but his aim is off as a result of the spell. The two goblins that attacked Ba'az before, jab at him again. Ba'az manages to deflect one of the spears, but the second goblin snakes past Ba'az's defenses and scores a hit. 1d8+2=10 damage
Ba'az uses his bolstering strike on the the goblin he wounded before.
Attack=21, Damage=10 and Ba'az gains 3 temp HP and shifts back 5 feet.
my falchion has reach so I will get an attack of opportunity if any of them close to attack.
Logan sweeps his swords across aiming for the rod wielding goblin's neck and stomach.
Standard: Jaws of the wolf power (1/2 dam on a missed hit:
1d20+7=16, 2d8+4=15, 1d20+7=17, 2d8+4=10
Hunter's Quarry damage: 1d8=6
Ba'az's attack cuts deeply into the goblin's arm and he staggers a bit and begins breathing raggedly. Goblin 1 is bloodied. Meanwhile Logan's strike seriously injures the wand wielding goblin who looks like he is practically on death's doorstep. Goblin 4 is bloodied. Faced with certain death or defeat, the goblin steps backward and sprints for the open grate.
The human warrior turns to face Jake and swings his mace at the cleric. The mace smashes down into the halfling's shoulder with solid impact. 1d20+4=23 vs. AC, 1d8+1=6 damage. Using the momentary distraction, the man steps just out of Elmo and Jake's reach.
