Huh? Alwyn shoots Elisile an astonished look as she casts her spell. I'm surrounded by wizards! What are the odds? Surely the Lord of Battles must favour us in this fight - no goblin can possibly stand against our might and the power of these mages. If they are any good, of course...
Spellcraft check 5+3=8. I have no idea of what my companions are up to.
I’ll leave Illes out of things for the moment, as I don’t want to NPC Ithuriel’s character as his first act. I’ll let him get into things as events progress – I know he is busy moving to Greece.
For both groups, the goblins are 20’ away, preparing to charge. They are carrying strange sword/knife things with holes drilled through them, light shields and wear leather armour. There are a few bystanders around, but not enough to prevent line of sight or provide cover.
OK, so I move forward towards the closest one drawing the Ogrehook as I go. "Citizens!! Stay back! I will handle these foul abominations! GUARDS! TO THE TEMPLE! GOBLINS ATTACKING!"
Since they are too far away for me to partial charge, I just move forward 20' to get prepped to gut one. I'll use my first attack rolls when I actually get to attack.
You can charge - I re-edited the post so they are 20' away. I wanted eveyone to have a bit of fun.
With a yell, Dravite tilts at the goblins, ripping one a new orifice with his heavy hooked weapon. It collapses with a squeak.
Of the remaining goblins, one stikes at Dravite while the other charges at Gurney. Both display considerably more enthusiasm than skill, missing completely with they cack-handed blows.
They are standing close to one another - ajoining squares in a v-formation.
It sounds like I can move 15' forward and cast, hitting them all without having to enter a threatened square (since burning hands is a cone effect). I'm basically putting an empty 5' square between myself and the lead goblin.
Vethran, seeing the goblins approaching in formation, rushes towards them and begins an arcane chant. He stops just a few feet short of the lead goblin as his tattoo flares to life, the draconic figure seeming to move as eldritch fire spews forth from it's mouth, moving swiftly to Vethran's hands and fanning out before him in a torrent of lethal flame.
They need to make DC 15 Reflex saves. 3d4 damage: 2 + 2 + 4 = 8. Reflex save for 4.
Working on the assumption that I get to attack
13:24, Today: Larken rolled 17 using 1d20+2 with rolls of 15. rapier attack on goblin.
13:28, Today: Larken rolled 6 using 1d6+2 with rolls of 4. Damage vs. goblin.
Seeing two goblins, and not keen on getting in the way of a dwarf with a gigantic meat-hook, Larken glides forward and drives his rapier toward the ribs of the goblin that seems to actually be attacking a dog.
If I don't get an attack, then please disregard this post. <g>
Vethran steps forward, and gouts of flame burst from his fingertips. With a shrill "Aaaaiiieee!!" two of the goblins promptly combust and drop to the floor as tiny, hissing candles. The other manages to dodge the initial blast, though its skin is blistered by the heat.
Meanwhile, across the square, Larken stabs the goblin attacking Gurney. With a neat thrust of his rapier he pierces its arm, causing it to shriek in pain, but it remains upright.
Hudak charges, pulling bastard sword, at the point of the arrow goblin in the vee formation. Atack 12+5=17, damage 6+4.5=10.5 (two handed). When I get a kill confirm,...I'll sing MY goblin song.
"Good work, all. However, the little nippers seem to be all over the place." Alwyn points his sword at the second group of goblins. "Hold on! We are on our way!"
I'm unsure of how our group's initiative pertains to the other group's fight, but here's my action, which you can allow to go off whenever it's appropriate:
Spoiler:
Vethran grins wickedly as the last of the goblins before him falls, then turns his attention to the other group.
"Hmph," he grunts, seeing more goblins on the move. Dipping his hand into his component pouch and producing a bit of ash, he intones another spell, targetting one of the offending wretches.
Targetting whichever goblin seems to be the least damaged with kelgore's fire bolt. It's a medium range spell (130 ft.) so the targets are easily within range. The spell deals 3d6 fire damage with a DC 15 Reflex save for half. 3d6: 1 + 2 + 2 = 5. Crappy roll. Hopefully he'll fail the save and die anyway. :D Obviously, if the others manage to kill the other group before my action, I save myself a spell slot.
Well alrighty then...
"COME TO DRAVEY, YOU LITTLE SCUM, TIME FOR BEDDY-BY!!!!" Dravite screams as he advances upon the next goblin in line and attempts to rip the creature's innards out with his giant hook.
1d20+5 to hit=16, 1d12+4 damage =11
damn, I screwed up the link, I can reroll if necessary.
On Init 10:Elisile finishes her simple incantation, feeling a slight warmth infuse her. However, between the Shoanti warriors and a human mage who sprang into action as the goblins began to charge, all the beasts in this group are down. She nods in silent appreciation of the human wizard. Crude and brutal magic, but extremely effective. He seemed to be a moderately powerful wizard, or one well practiced at his chosen focus. Elisile then spins to look for more targets.
Dravite guts the goblin with his hook. It expires messily.
As a matter of protocol, I'm not bothered if you use Invisible Castle or just roll dice at home - I can't get anal about whether you are cheating or not. I'm sure you are not, and it would be obvious if you were.

The goblin ducks, managing to avoide the worst of Vethran's spell. It looks slightly singed, with curls of smoke rising from its leather armour, but still servicable.
I'm definitely going to invest in Reserve feats as soon as possible. Fiery Burst would be damn handy because, not only does it let me blast short-range bursts of fire... but it increases my caster level by 1 for all fire spells! That'll put me up a total of 3 CLs for flame-death by level 3. Nice. :D
Trusting to his training, Larken turns and thrusts his rapier into the last goblin. At least, he thinks it's the last goblin. There didn't seem to be very many of them.
I use the time to wipe the goblin entrails from my hook, using a goblin's vest to get the gore off. "Heh, not so tough, just glad no innocents got in the way.....wonder if there are more of the abominations about....."
Hudak pulls the shield off his back and arms it up, looking at the wicked little goblin knives, not wanting them in his skin. His abdomen starts to do a dance as the fight or flight wave recedes.
He looks around at this place that has become the red field.
Though the goblins are defeated, Alwyn keeps his sword out. "There has to be more of them. Is anyone hurt? Anyone at all?" Any bleeding or incapacitated civilians that I can see?
"Why, you speak of impossible things, like the breath of a fish, of the footfall of a cat. I thank the treespirits thy blade is not as slow as your wit."
for ya'll city slickers out there, this is how backwoods folks make friends. We have to fight first.
Vethran visibly slumps at the exchange between Hudak and Dravite and listens for the sounds of more screaming. He rolls his sleeve back down, the tattoo going dormant once again.
Alwyn picks up a goblin's dogslicer, eyeing its poor craftsmanship in disgust. Leaning it against the ground, he snaps it underneath his bootheel before tossing away the pieces. "Piece of crap. Good thing for them that they are many. Let's go find some more of 'em, shall we?"
Listen check to hear more fighting? I rolled 13+2=15.
You don't have to look far for more fighting and goblin activity. The little dastards are running about quite freely, and a few townsfolk are staggering about wounded, or lying still in pools of their own blood. You catch sight of a small band of giggling goblins trotting round the side of the temple, towards where you recall a large pile of firewood is stored in preparation for the celebratory bonfire tonight.
Vethran scowls, noticing the full-scale goblin invasion that seems to be occuring all around him. "Where the hell are the guards?!? Damn it!" He intones another spell to shield him from harm. It was going to be a long night. Assuming nothing prevents it, I cast mage armor on myself.
I will head towards the ones moving towards the cart, if there are any close enough for my movement to be a charge in that direction then I will do a charge of any gobbos along the way.
"There! They'll be trying to set fire to the town and the temple! Get after them - I'll catch up with you in a second."
I'll stop and stabilise bleeders along the way, using spontaneous castings of cure minor wounds. Regrettably, I'll need to save my 'real' spells for the fights I suspect will be coming.
Larken follows along, but more cautiously, as it appears the "true warriors" are all worked up and ready to charge into Gods-know what around the corner.
He keeps an eye on the rear, and switches his dagger from a fighting grip to a throwing grip.
On her turn, Elisile will murmer another incantation, casting Guidance on herself (standard action). She will also draw her longbow and scan the area for viable goblin targets (move action). Spot: 11+6 = 17
