Frustrated at not being able to get a crack at the monstosity and feeling the divine blade of Gorum wink out of existance, Hru does the only thing he can. "Gorum keep this warrior in battle!" he cries reaching out to Manfred's back.

You hear some horrific screaming coming from the ballroom and some confused shouts. The screaming stops as quickly as it started and the babble dies down. A loud voice demands, "What the hell was that and where did it go?"
"Damn! Sounds like the guards got in and met up with whatever we were fighting in there. From the lack of combat sounds I'm betting Gal adar and Eria are hiding but they're pinned down. "
Liandra reslings her crossbow, pulling out her khukri. "Two options, we all go back and give the Baron more prep time or Knotty and I go after him while you two go rescue them and follow us. Whatever we do it needs to be quick."
"Thanks for the concern Liandra," I whisper, "We're here. A little less shouting and a little more moving. I don't want to have to kill more of the guards than necessary." I once more point up the stairs and make encouraging little walking movements with my fingers.
Eria stands with a somewhat befuddled look on her face looking as if she has forgotten something but cant remember what it is
It occurs to me that Eria probably left her bow in the throne room since she wouldent have thought to pick it up and I dont think anyone else did.
Thanks for making me laugh out loud, Kevin. Very dry stuff.
Glad you enjoy it. Never realised till now how difficult it is to play a very low int character.
Eria at this point refuses point blank to move her lips slowly move as if it is taking every ounce of concentration to form words "Mind.....Hurt....Time.....Need......Think."
Liandra and Galadar enter a large octagonal chamber with a 20' high ceiling. Painted lanterns cast red light over long bookshelves, wooden chests and two enormous worktables.
A large chalk pentagram occupies the center of the room.
A pile of corpses, many with limbs removed, leans against one wall.
Eria lets out a small gasp of suprise at being grabbed and almost instantly starts to struggle "Go.......let.......time.......need" She manages to quietly say.
Eria seems to suddenly remember something and rather unceramoniusly emptys her back pack on the middle of the floor picking her way though i she picks up a couple of scrolls before excitedly shoving them in knotty's direction.
"Hru, there is a scroll of lesser restoration, it looks divine, can you use this. How about the remove curse one too?"
Eria/GM

Hru's eyes flick away from his intent on the room to Knotty. Holding the scroll up "Yes, this is what I had in mind" Taking the scroll he reads the words aloud, they appear to be an appeal to Erastil. He then says "May your blades find the heart"

You want to make a perception check to search the room, Hru?
Searching the chamber reveals that Baron Vendikon has been conducting some pretty horrible experiments here.
Knowledge (arcana) DC 15:
Spoiler:
The dismembered bodies, surgical equipment, and texts on forbidden experiments hint that the monstrosity that you faced on the stairs was built by the Baron from the bodies you saw in the corner.
Knowledge (local) DC 15:
Spoiler:
The pile of bodies in the corner belong to various races and ethnicities but by their dress and features are not local to Andoran or Cheliax.
Knowledge (history) DC 15:
Spoiler:
The Baron's library contains texts on the history of the inner sea that are written from a Chelish perspective. Most of them were written in Cheliax by revisionist historians. Several of them are personally signed by the authors and wish the Baron 'to find himself on the path to power' or 'recognize the strength that order brings'.
The collection of scrolls includes deep slumber (2), hold monster, hold person, gentle repose (3), summon monster I, summon monster II, summon monster III, touch of idiocy, and vampiric touch. The notes would be useful to someone attempting to create a flesh golem but are incomplete.
"So he made them himself, this is the Grimoire of Flesh and Strength, Constructs and Guardians. Our Baron cut up the bodies and built himself a golem. Shows a lot of arcane talent, he does."
Knotty casts [i[detect magic[/i] and sweeps the room looking for stray signatures not already accounted for. He spends three rounds on each quadrant to make sure that the Baron has gone.
"Maybe he is here, otherwise he may have bugged out."
Then the little wizard checks out the scrolls, putting most of them in his tunic.
"Eria, can you bring in a wolf to scent for Vendikon here? If it were me, I'd still be here listening and watching."
After checking the room thoroughly and finding nothing, suddenly Hru's eyes bulge like he's swallowed a stirge and with a muttered curse under his breath he checks the ceiling.
you get me once shame on you, twice, shame on me, ;) and are there any other exits?
Knotty shrugs. "Eff knows. He's gone, Liandra but he may be back. I could sit on my arse reading for a while to get some answers or we could leave and try to find the missing Baron. That's twice he's got away. I doubt he has many other teleports left."
No windows. Gorum doesn't like cowards who crawl out through windows.
Other than the treasure already described, the contents of this room would be useful only to you if you wanted to put together a flesh golem with big metal hooks for arms. (Don't we all want to do that?)
So the roof and walls are all stone and there are no windows or skylights? That narrows down our choices here. I wasn't planning on going back the way we had come.
Knotty takes a moment to study the circle carefully. "If they cannot find us then perhaps they will be gone when we go back the way we have come."
Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22. Is this pentagram some means of escape? Could Knotty use it to get everyone away?
