Atari blasts back from the past with new game plan

Just this week, Atari acquired California-based Cryptic Studios for $28 million…

I will be curious to see how this plays out.

Good catch. I had not noticed that.

City of Heroes, despite it's age, kicks some serious Ass! Plus, they are planning on doing an major upgrade to the graphics next year.

This is super old news and Champions is terrible. Cryptic can't get anything right. The game is bad, their servers are constantly down, and they just had a free weekend for their Halloween event and the patch server was borked all weekend and people couldn't patch or log in.

It scares me that these people are doing Star Trek MMO next.

I'm having quite a bit of fun with Champions Online. Servers aren't really down very often other than for scheduled updates (which can sometimes be most weekdays at 3-5AM block Pacific time). It is a shame they didn't do a new build for the free weekend, though, since slow patching is an issue. But even so, lots of new players were online over the weekend, so it obviously works for some.

I wouldn't want to do an MMO in today's market - MMO players appear to be among the whiniest of all nerd cliques.

Oh I heard they're gonna go retro and add Reeses Pieces to Champions online. Apparently if you don't have them in your inventory you can't fly or get out of pits.

I have enjoyed City of Heroes the most out of all the MMOs I have tried, playing it off and on for the 5 years its been out. World of Warcraft coming in 2nd.

BTW, D&D online is free to play these days. :)
