The End is Nigh

Friday, May 12, 2017

Happy Friday! To polish off Pathfinder Battles: Crown of Fangs set, this week we are starting with the Reclamation Squire, a medium common. This gal take putting down evil seriously. Based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path, the shield and chainmail detailing are awesome. It is also always nice to see a woman warrior in combat appropriate armor, with a combat appropriate haircut. Bad to the bone.

Next we have the Reclamation Knight, a medium uncommon. This miniature represents, hopefully, what your squire becomes after righting enough wrongs, and ending enough evil schemes. Love the detailing on the helmet, and the more ornate shield. This miniature is also based off of art from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path.

The Monstrous Skeleton is a large uncommon miniature. Because when having humanoid skeletons isn't enough, Paizo has you covered. Maul your player's characters to your heart's content with this bestial baddy, which is based off of art from the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path.

Finally, Shadowcount Sial is a medium rare miniature. This guy is a devout priest of Zon-Kuthon, one of our more cheery deities, as you can see from his joyful smile. Who wouldn't find serving The Midnight Lord a pleasure? This miniature is based off of art from the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path, and would work great as a priest, ranger, slayer, fighter, of whatever else you choose.

I won´t be getting this, as i don´t like half of the (six) minis (but the dwarf, elf and invisible halfling are decent).

Mini's Gallery calls D&D Set 7 "Forgotten Realms", I don't know what's their source...

As a side note, hi everybody, my first post on these boards I think, but I'm a long time lurker especially in the miniatures-addicted sections.

And Marco, I especially appreciate all of your reviews and often articulated comments, they make me think I'm not the only one waiting for Friday for different reasons than most of the world population :)

I finally got to sit down and break out my case. Some nice looking figures in this set. Overall I am happy with them.

Couple of issues though:

1) I have bought a case of every set from the beginning. This is the first time I have not gotten a full set of figures. It is also the first time they have not seemed to be distributed evenly in the case. It is almost like I didn't get a complete case but rather two of the same brick. Please note I buy my case as a subscriber from Paizo so I know I received a case as it came from the factory.

2) I find this set had quite a few flimsy overly thin weapons. I would rather have had the swords look a little large than like they were whips rather than swords. I think I will try the superglue coating method to make them a little stiffer, but in the end, I would have liked them to be sculpted a little thicker.

3) Lastly, I also didn't get a well. I received three stockades. Like I will ever be able to sell off the extras of those to buy the well.

Figures I was the most impressed with?

1) Giant Scorpion. Much better than I expected. Great looking figure.

2) Death. Didn't need two of him, but I like the figure a lot.

3) Grey Maiden Dragon Rider. Wish I had been able to keep her longer, but the son put claim to the figure and so she flew away to his room.

4) I was shocked at how much I liked the Geist. What I will do with six of them, I don't know. But I do like the figure.

Anyway, off to see if I can score the rare figures I am missing.

The source was a distibutor's site:

www.universaldist.com/p-246725-dd-icons-7-forgotten-realms-8ct-booster-bric k-4.aspx
www.universaldist.com/p-246726-dd-icons-7-forgotten-realms-incentive.aspx

There is no guarantee this is the official name, but it does seem to tie in well with the next adventure module that also appears to be in the Forgotten Realms. I suspect this is also why we have not seen any previews of the set, as WotC are waiting until June 2nd to reveal the setting (which for all intents and purposes appears to be in Chult) as per:
www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?552039-Stream-of-Annihilation-Preview- DINOSAURS!/page2&p=7121998#post7121998

As soon as I receive any further information, I'll make sure to update the gallery accordingly:

Dinosaurs.....

That might be the only thing that's able to drag me into the wizards minis. I generally hate the quality, but if they do a case promo dinosaur I might be tempted.

Though I've got a bunch of customers I made using nice toy dinosaurs already.

6 MAZE OF DEATH preview renders from Paizocon:

it takes a while before the picture is finished loading, but it works. ;-)

#04: Mind Frond (Basidirond)

#25: Minotaur Artillery

#30: Sea Drake (Bestiary 2)

#42: Young Blue Dragon

Case Incentive #1: Huge Air Elemental

Case Incentive #2: Huge Water Elemental

Personally i´m very excited that the "Fire Elemental Lord" seems to have been replaced with the "Huge Water Elemental", as it is the only huge elemental not yet covered by old D&D minis.
It´s also great to have a third minotaur (after HM #30 & WR #36), which is a ranged fighter.
The large blue dragon is the last of the large chromatics (technically we would still need a rider-less black one, but the Gray Maiden Rider could be removed, leaving a saddle. ;-)).
The Basidirond as an uncommon is super-cool, thank you Erik and Mike!
Also the third (of four) drakes from Bestiary 2 is made - awesome.

Let´s also not forget, that Maze of Death will have another large plant creature with the "Viper Vine" (Bestiary 2 page 279), a "Ghul (Bestiary 3) and probably more than one Ratfolk (Bestiary 3 again) minis!

Dark Archive

There were also some other Pathfinder Battles news from Paizocon i will put into spoilers:

Spoiler #1:

:
The preview for the "Ruins of Azlant" Adventure Path (august 2017 - january 2018), states that there will be Pathfinder Battles miniature tie-ins!

These will most probably be within the Maze of Death set (october 2017), but maybe we´ll get a boxed set? ;-)

Dark Archive

Spoiler #2:

This also involves information about the first Adventure Path of 2018, so only read it if you wan´t to know about that.

:
The preview for the "War for the Crown" Adventure Path (february 2018 - july 2018), states that there will be Pathfinder Battles miniature tie-ins!

The fact that this AP takes place in Taldor, especially mentions civil war, intrigue, "Princess Eutropia" and will probably partly adapted minis from artwork in the upcoming "Taldor - The First Empire" Campaign Setting (december 2017), makes me think the minis will be part of 2018s yet untitled "PFB Set 14" (maybe named "War for the Crown"? ;-)).
Which will probably carry a more humanoid-heavy theme again (like Crown of Fangs), after the seemingly more creature-heavy upcoming "Maze of Death".

The new D&D minis set will most probably be announced tomorrow, here´s hoping it includes huge minis again.

Except for the 5 Geist I guess I got lucky with the distribution:
4 of most commons
3 of most uncommons

Reclamation Cavalry feels like it's easy to unseat, so a perfect match with Reclamation Knight.

Not a perfect match with the cavalry riders coat on the hippogriff but both look better now, like the riders are where they belong.

So, the next D&D minis set 7 will be called:

"Icons of the Realms: Tomb of Annihilation" and will be out on wednesday 26th of july (has been moved three weeks).

It will be based on the updated "Tomb of Horrors" storyline from "Tales of the Yawning Portal".

It will have only 44 different sculpts (just like Storm Kings Thunder) and very likely include HUGE minis (DINOSAURS & CONSTRUCTS)!!!

Minis that have been confirmed in the set:

:

-Aaracokra
-Four-armed Gargoyle
-Acererak (Lich)
-Masked Goblins (probably an A & B version)
-Invisible Acererak (rare variant)
-HUGE Stone Juggernaut

The Case Incentive is:

:
A Tombs and Traps Set including:
-Huge green devil face trap
-huge Sarcophagus
-large portal
-4 "rubble" squares
-4 "spiked pit" squares
-4 "glyph" squares
-4 "fire trap" squares"
-4 "pit" squares
-4 gold coin heaps
-3 potions
-3 spell scrolls (i think)
-1 face hugger? (can´t really see what it is supposed to be)

Dark Archive

Minis that will probably be in the set:

:

-T-Rex (a very big HUGE mini)
-Triceratops (Huge)
-some sort of (large) rideable dino
-Pteranodon (medium or large)

here is a link to actual pictures of the minis:

Yeah, i don't know about those traps minis in the incentive (which is probably nothing for you at all).

But huge minis in the actual boosters should be interesting for you too or am i wrong?

I mean you probably have a huge (fiendish) T-Rex from Giants of Legends and a "Trihorn-Behemoth", don't you?

But these should only be 2 of 10 huge sculpts in the set, maybe we'll get a Froghemoth? :-)

Oh yeah - I'm very glad they're looking at ways to get huge minis in.

I'm just getting more disappointed each time an incentive piece is "used up" by furniture. :/

Although i like some furniture, i would prefer it at medium and large size in boosters or as seperate collectors sets.

Case incentives should be reserved either for 2 huge or one special gargantuan monster, i agree.

That being said, the two huge creatures from octobers upcoming Maze of Death incentive look great!

Dark Archive

Some other creatures in Tomb of Annihilation:

:

-There is a Howling Devil mini included with the incentive.

-Undead Dinosaurs (probably as minis, too)!

-the Frogemoth is confirmed for the adventure, which means there is a high probability of it being a huge mini in this set!

I'm starting to feel this way too, to be honest. I like the dressing in general, but the incentive sets aren't doing it for me.

Between the Rusty Dragon Inn, the Court of the Crimson Throne, and the Adventurer's Campsite (thank you again!), I have a lot of fiddly bits that won't work all that effectively. Tiny items like chairs - or worse, the individual dishes and bottles - are more likely to get in the way than help. The bar itself is a series of pieces that are likely to get jostled about.

At some point, I really must go review the two Pathfinder ones. My thoughts on each of them are mixed, but lean more negative than positive. (I haven't tried the Velcro that was included with the pillars yet, but I doubt that will affect my overall thoughts.)

All that said, that new Wizards case incentive actually might be more useful than any of the others. Perhaps I can find a way to pick one up without having to sell plasma for an entire case.

That makes me happysad. Happy with finally getting a Frogemoth (yes I use them a lot), sad it's not a pathfinder battles piece. I have always associated the Froggemoth as being more iconic to pathfinder than D&D, odd I'm sure considering it's quite old heritage (barrier peak?). Still if the huge are of the same general quality as SKT I'll be happy, I just tend to find the Icons sets have a lower overall quality.

Not sure about this incentive, as others above have said, getting a little over the dressing incentives and there's not a lot in this one that thrills me. Wish wizkids would alternate at the very least like they do with PFB.

That said the Acerak looks like a nice mini and the aarakrokra looks very nice. Maybe we'll even get a few more spoilers soon?

Shouldn't be long now before the maze of death spoilers start!

I put it up on velcro right away. The bottom is receding a bit, so if you stick the fluffy side on the column it'll stand up either with or without the clear plastic.

I'd love to see all the traps and spell effects from Tomb of Annihilation on clear bases. The square, stone-looking bases don't really do much for me, whereas, with clear, round bases, you could reuse them almost anywhere.

There has been a new picture added to plasticrypt (use the link 10 posts above).

You can see more minis:

:

-masked Goblin
-Human Archer
-small or medium Dinosaur (Deinonichus?)
-large Feathered Serpent (Quetzacoatl?)
-Green-skinned alien-looking guy with sword & cloak
-Mummified large Snakeman (Yuan-Ti Malison?)

Dark Archive

Here are new pictures from Tomb of Annihilation (thanks BB Shockwave):

plasticrypt

Confirmed for this set are:

:

-Aaracokra (medium)
-Acererak/Lich (medium)
-Four-armed Gargoyle (large)
-Juggernaut (huge base with much overhang - practically gargantuan!)
-masked Goblin (small)
-human male Ranger with bow (medium)
-Velociraptor (small)
-Ultroloth (medium)
-Couatl (medium)
-Ras Nsi/Mummified Yuan-Ti (medium)
-Nycaloth/Nycademon (large)
-Pteranodon (large)

We also should get a "Maze of Death" preview this friday.

With the set in stores in october 2017, there are only between 17 & 20 weeks left until release (most probably 19) and there are still all 52 minis to be shown.

Although we have seen some bad resolution renders from Paizocon, i hope we´ll see the case incentives in better quality, as they are the main selling point for a case and really look fantastic!

Also it´s exactly 7 weeks till "Icons of the Realms: Tomb of Annihilation" will be in north-american stores.
