Feast On These Modules

Monday, August 22, 2016

Ever since finishing the sanctioning documents for the Giantslayer and Iron Gods Adventure Paths back in January, Linda and I have had our hands full preparing for PaizoCon and Gen Con. We're thrilled to have delivered a huge number of new scenarios, and it's even more exciting to enter this comparably relaxed time of the year in which we can catch up on old business. You may have noticed Linda over the last week appearing in countless discussion threads to offer clarifications and then disappear in a cloud of ebullient nosoi psychopomps. I've been wrangling authors, outlining a bunch of new scenarios, and sending out new assignments; keep an eye out for new product pages soon (and see below for a list of upcoming scenarios, should you need information for planning upcoming conventions).

Upcoming Scenarios
  • Pathfinder Society Scenario #8-04: Wardens of Sulfur Gulch (Tier 7-11)
  • Pathfinder Society Scenario #8-05: Ungrounded but Unbroken (Tier 1-5)
  • Pathfinder Society Scenario #8-06: Reaping What We Sow (Tier 1-5)
  • Pathfinder Society Scenario #8-07: From the Tome of Righteous Repose (An experimental Tier 3-7)

Together, though, we're sanctioning a massive number of Modules and Adventure Paths. Today I'd like to share the first of many: Pathfinder Module: Feast of Dust and Pathfinder Module: Ire of the Storm! You can find the sanctioning documents on their respective product pages.

Ire of the Storm skipped ahead in line a bit largely because we want to prioritize sanctioning low-level material in the organized play campaign. Don't worry though, as we're busily looking ahead to The House on Hook Street, Down the Blighted Path, and Gallows of Madness. We've also queued the Adventure Paths Hell's Rebels, Curse of the Crimson Throne, and Strange Aeons for attention, and after those, Serpent's Skull, Kingmaker, and Council of Thieves are all eagerly waiting their turns to provide hundreds of hours of additional content to the campaign. At this point, we haven't dug into Hell's Vengeance deeply enough to know quite if or how it might fit into the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild; if anything, it'll likely be one we sanction in "campaign mode" only. Finally, I have the pleasure of reading more Pathfinder Tales novels and have nearly finished Hellknight, meaning I'm almost done writing the Volume 8 sanctioning Chronicle sheet.

That covers a lot of what's currently missing, but it does leave out one noteworthy absence: the Pathfinder Society Open Call. You may have noticed that we have a new Pathfinder Society landing page and that much of our campaign information got rearranged just before Gen Con. I'm taking this as an opportunity to revise the Open Call guidelines and add in some more advice I've learned from looking over past entries. My projection is that it will still be a 2,000-word (or less) quest, so if you're in the middle of preparing your own submission based on past guidelines, it's fairly unlikely you'll need to make any significant changes. I do, however, advise not sending in new submissions during this short hiatus, as I'll be reading any submissions I've received since August 1, 2016 with these new guidelines in mind. Once the Open Call is all spruced up, expect to see a blog announcing that it's back in action.

Great timing! I am in the mood to run a lot of sanctioned modules.

Woot!

Feast of Dust Organized Play document has "Legal Character Levels" as 11-13, 12-14, 13-15 for Parts 1-3, but the chronicles have them as 10-12, 11-13, 12-14, then the "special" is 13-15. Misprint?

#8-07: From the Tome of Righteous Repose (An experimental Tier 3-7)?

Can you elaborate a bit what exactly the experimental part is or is it to early for that?

Any chance that Wrath will be sanctioned, at least for campaign mode play?

The Chronicle sheets are correct. The summary on the first page appears to be in error.

I'd be considering it in a similar light if that's the direction we choose to go with Hell's Vengeance.

It's just a little early, but suffice it to say it's going to be a fun adventure that should present no complications when it comes to scheduling it; we're just doing something a little weird (and very exciting) with the tier as something of an experiment. I should be finishing up the product page soon, and that will provide more information than my cagey response.

Oh, this should be good...

Well I am curious to see the experimental scenario then.

Good... GOOOOOOOOOD. :>

Now the PFS crowd can enjoy the delight that is Ire of the Storm (for credit!), which I had something maybe kinda to do with. Crystal also had several hands (at least two) in this project, so yeah, pretty awesome!

Big thanks to John and Linda for getting this stuff sanctioned.

I know my Hell's Vengeance players are eagerly awaiting chronicle sheets. There are some awesome items they've come across that would be really fun in PFS.

I am weirdly excited by the prospect, however distant in the future it may be, of having Kingmaker sanctioned. I'm slowly running through it for some friends and it would be a fun thing to have. I always figured that it was one batch of credit I'd have to miss out on just 'cause... well, Kingmaker!

Honestly I did not expect them to sanction Kingmaker.

Thanks for all your hard work getting these done. Your efforts are appreciated (even if it isn't mentioned very often).

I am so excited for seeing modules. They're my favorite things to explore in Play-by-Post as a GM, because there are so many things to do with them! So much fun!

I cannot tell you how excited this makes me. We'll have to run a slot zero of this one, Mr. Slanky!

Awesome, playing the modules for PFS is my personal favorite part of the campaign. The module sanctioning had fallen so far behind I'd given up all hope that they would ever get sanctioned. Thanks for getting this back on track.

Wow! Definitely excited to run Ire of the Storm via PbP in a few weeks- thanks for getting the sanctioning docs published!

An Omen

A foulness of spiders strides 'fore my eyes.
Like ants they bear a planchette 'pon its side.
“When shall horror come to Hook Street?” each cries,
Whence on casters the wooden prophet slides.

“S” coils a letter, born on little legs—
They scuttle as driven by unseen fears.
“O” swirls beneath the glass like wine-soaked dregs.
A synchronized dance by arachnid seers.

“O,” how they caper, oh, how I do wait
As spiders skitter to form symbols discreet
“N!” I exclaim. Some might dare say it’s fate
That this portent be trailed by Chon’cle sheet.

The omens are clear; they foretell a boon:
For Hodge’s adventure shall be sanctioned soon!

Is this Paizo "soon", Valve "soon" or regular soon?

I've been running Curse of the Crimson Throne for my group for about 3 years now and while it might be interesting to give out chronicles after it's over, we are about 1/3 done with Scarwall and I've got used to the idea that we'll probably miss the sanctioning. Might have some left of the last volume once it's sanctioned but who'd want a tier 14-16 chronicle?

In any case, wanna run Hook Street as a mini sequel of sorts, make it a generational thing maybe. We've got at least one plague orphan, a certain tribe of insular but befriended orcs, this dagger-snake no one saw, etc. Lots of potential.

So, next year or this year?
