Horror Adventures, the new hardcover from Paizo for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game will launch I’m August next year, along side the Strange Aeons Adventure path!

Features Include:

Advice for running horror themed Adventures in Pathfinder.

Madness rules will be Included.

Lovecraftian horror Included.

Major character system: Corruption.
System by which you can slowly descend into a new form. Vampires hinted at after the biting.

Embracing the corruption gives you abilities for your character, such as becoming more charming… But a drawback is tied to it. Such as aversion to sunlight.

Lovecraftian, werewolves, insanity, possession mentioned as possibilities.

Touches of playing monsters, but focusing on the RP possibilities and the slow turning and resisting or embracing that.

Body failing and replacing with golem parts?

RP? race points?

Well that makes sense. I can't wait to find out more.

"slowly turning and resisting or embracing being monsters". Reminds me of those people from a small RPG company of yore who had the crazy idea to explore what being a monster could mean in a RPG. Lion Rampant was the company's name. And they mused about it at the end of an early book of Ars Magica ;-)

Sovereign Court

I literally just developed a system for corruption for a third party which combines madness and transforming slowly into an abomination (with associated boons and penalties). Paizo, why do you do this to me?!?!

So instead of character classes this is going to be about that corruption system I am guessing.

This is super exciting, between this and Strange Aeons next year is the year for me. I love horror themed games and I greatly enjoy lovecraftian elements. Hopefully I'll get into a play by post of Strange Aeons, I am sure many of them will start up then.

Sounds cool. Reminds me of Heroes of Horror, especially the corruption sub-rules.

Enh. Seems too thematically similar to Occult. Should've just combined the two into one.

Oooh, I really like...

That would be a gigantic book.

I was hoping for Steam Adventures, but in my ongoing quest to appeal thematically to my fiancée's interests, this should be just fine.

Hopefully it has something to do with aeons and isn't just an unfortunate alternate spelling of eons where aeons actually mean something in the setting.

It's spelled that way because it's a verbatim spelling of a Lovecraft quote.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

This would have been a great place for a horror themed class such a shapeshifter or class that gains monster releated powers, abilities, and traits.

It would be cool if there are Aeons in this one with the horror/lovecraft stuff.

Interesting. Will there be a play test?

This could be interesting. A good chunk of the Mythos is how normal people can't cope with the information on what's happening, let alone deal with the reality, and Pathfinder is all about being a Wizard that can level a small city into a glass plate. It doesn't seem like the system for unleashing terror and insanity on your players, but it'll be interesting to see how it's done.

Unless it's the 'Wizard Magically Rocket Punches All The Monsters In The Face' version of Cthulhu, in which case it'll be extremely meh and the first adventure path I've actively not wanted to be part of.

No mention of any play tests yet.

Personally, I prefer a psionic "grows giant and physically punches all the monsters in the face" type.

I would love for this to be a Charisma-based system with Madness points or something.

Or a "pilots a giant construct and punches all the monsters in the face" type...

...but I suspect it isn't that.

;D

This just in: Paizo licenses 2016 fall Adventure Path to Pacific Rim 2 team.

I do want to play a DSP Duergar Synthesist . . . could get Colossal with that character!

in the car yesterday I was wondering if it would literally be Horror Adventures. It seems one of the most obvious niches left to explore after psychic and "epic" rules, both of which have been done.

Madness rules, I though we already had rules for that?

Maybe they need to go to several locations to find giant metal lions that form into one mighty robot;)

We need Megazord power! Now!

Insanity yes. Horror Genre Madness? No.

w00t!

If I am not mistaken, Aeons have a new..ish.. focus in the setting.. so maybe the caretakers of reality oppose the Old Gods/Great Old Ones who wish to destroy it. Or, since they are about balance, they are the ones manipulating from behind the scenes.

Assuming it's about Lovecraftian horror, there better be an opportunity to ram a colossal creature with a ship, or the entire AP is terrible. Regardless of writing, encounter design, and anything else that could be excellent. :P

So, Horror Adventures and a Lovecraft-themed game.

Please let us get some Castrovel action. :D

lovecraftian horror please

As much I would like to see Castrovel, I can't see it fitting the theme of this AP. I would rather it be sword and planet then horror themed.

I know d20/Pathfinder is built to be heroic fantasy role playing, and I'm fine if that's the norm for Strange Aeons, but I'd love to seem some support - either official or 3PP - for playing "normal" people. An article at the back of the first installment, or some designer notes once in a while, on playing a low-magic campaign or for playing characters that start off with NPC classes before they start taking heroic PC classes. Almost the opposite of a mythic AP.

And if that doesn't fit into Paizo's plans... 3rd Party Publishers, I'll tell you right now that I'll pay good money for a supplemental handbook that really delves into how to run a successful low-magic and reluctant heroes.

this looks cool

I haven't really kept up with them lately, but Legendary Games used to put out "Adventure Path Plug-Ins". I'm not sure if that's a way they would want to go with Strange Aeons, but it wouldn't hurt to look them up and ask if they have anything planned for it.

There are actually some rules for starting off as children using the NPC classes in Ultimate Campaign. Those rules will work just fine for taking normal adult people and having them become heroic over time.

Shadow Lodge

Or just start with NPC classes. There's already rules for that in the Core Rulebook.

I for one hope this adventure path ends with my Brawlbarian punching Cthulhu in his stupid squid face.

I want my heroes to eff the ineffable.

I would be all over this, except is sounds like it won't be investigative horror. :(

I hope the opposite. Otherwise there's no point in doing something with Lovecraft - you might as well do something more interesting and Pathfindery, like fighting off an Inevitable that has decided since the main source of crime is life, getting rid of it will help him big time. Help flesh out the Neutral Outsiders too.

However, I suspect it'll be your version.

There is more to Lovecraft that just Cthulhu, you know.

I'd actually prefer this AP not involve Cthulhu at all...in terms of Lovecraftian stuff, it's way overdone.

If you really want a AP that ends with Cthulhu, there's always Throne of Night. {yeah, the final book supposedly ends with Cthulhu. sorry if I spoiled the AP that will never finish for anyone}
