Group survey time!

Okay, survey time since we can't come to a consensus among the setup crew:
Is a group of goblins called a horde, murder, or pyre?

Definitely a pyre.

Crows took murder, horde's too general. Pyre is perfect.

Dark Archive

I think pyre.

A horde.

Although to be sure that you are using the correct term, you really should set them on fire. The goblins should not object since in principle they enjoy seeing things set on fire, and you can call them hypocrites when they object to being the things set on fire.

Conflagration.

A Rampage of Goblins.

Has a nice ring to it doesn't it :-)

None of the above, its a conflagration!

Pyre

Scarab Sages

Horde.

If I assume the goblins won't refer to themselves with this terminology, and it's really academic in nature, then I'd like to continue the nomination of "conflagration". It should be noted that this has far too many syllables for a goblin to even ruminate, but this is for Science, not for them.

That said, if forced to stick with the original three suggestions, I wouldn't object to a goblin pyre, or really any other terms relating to fire. Perhaps even something as simple as a "torch" or "flame" of goblins.

I find "horde" to be too generic, but I could stomach "murder". Again, already taken for crows (noting that "pack" does not suffer from that perceived limitation), but it would be an acceptable 5th or 6th place behind multiple fire-related terms.

classical speaking I think horde is correct, Pyre sound pretty good, but rampage might be the best as it captures the over all essence

I've always used a catastrophe of Goblins. Appropriate on so many levels.

Silver Crusade

Personally I'd go with alliteration: a gaggle of goblins. :-)

But if we must stick with a fire theme, pyre or conflagration would work. Or maybe burn, backdraft, or blaze.

To me, and this could just be me, rampage and horde could just as easily be applied to orcs. That's not normally an issue, but in Pathfinder the goblin holds a more prominent role (face of the franchise), so I would go with something more specific and flavorful.

Dark Archive

I would've gone with a shanty, or maybe a squabble of Goblins

But vote for Pyre

My vote's for pyre, it goes along with their nature...

Goblins like fire, and being the kind and generous folk they are, they share it with everyone they meet.

So yes, a pyre of Goblins seems very appropriate.

mmm, pyre implies stacking and burning. too organized.

Murder is taken.

Horde is generally size.

How about a Glee of Goblins? I'd say a chortle, but that's too smug. Glee just seems to hit that wicked sweet spot with them always 'smiling'.

I propose a mess of goblins.

Dark Archive

A gross of goblins.

I was fixing to propose a "confusion of goblins", but catastrophe and conflagration are awesome as well. Of the original 3, definitely pyre.

A Congress.

After all, they don't want things written down, they have a collective low intelligence, they destroy all that they come into contact with, and they can never be completely eradicated.

All you "pyre" and "conflagration" peeps just Fell, you insensitive pinkskins. {shakes fist impotently}

A pile on fire... shortened to pyre. Although I like conflagation even better. If you fear that it has too many syllables, then just imagine how the goblins must consider the word important! It's so hard to pronounce, so it must be the bestest ever! (and their toothy maws also sputter in a funny way while pronouncing it).

Gaggle of goblins. A goblin gaggle.

Or pyre. Pyre's fun too.

And here I thought that it was a "weebee", which they turned into a song...

Yeah, it's definitely a pyre.

Shadow Lodge

If I had to make a GM call on this, I'd say that goblins call it a "bunch" of goblins, whereas humans would use "mess", dwarves would use "pyre", elves would just say "goblins" with extra contempt, and gnomes would use "$(/@".

For official use, I'm ambivalent.

No, a gross is a specific number -- 144.

Liberty's Edge

A vex of goblins
A mischief of goblins
An irk of goblins...?

Pyre.

Scarab Sages

a Mischief of Goblins

Officially they are a tribe. I think Cosmo is the 6th—8th level leader...

Grand Lodge

a raid?

I thought Cosmo was a mythic gremlin who apotheosized via the Schadenfreudestone?

A kerfuffle...

At rest or generally not casing trouble, they are an ember of goblins. General mischief, a pyre of goblins. Full on stink hit the fan is a conflagration of goblins.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Conflagration seems more perfect, at least from someone else using precise taxonomic terminology. Horde I agree is generic and could be used for goblins as well as others. Pyre is what I would prefer of the three choices given if conflagration isn't going to be tearing through.

I disagree. It should be called a "tackle".

How about a Choir of Goblins?

You're sure to start praying when you see one headed for your town, bringing the fires of hell with them.

I'm pretty sure it's a BUNGLE of goblins.
Or a FUMBLE.
Or a FREE-FOR-ALL.

But I think it's BUNGLE.

Dark Archive

Pyre if I must pick one but prefer. A mob of goblins in my home game.

Grand Lodge

of the three i would say horde. but i offer mob. a mob of goblins...

While I would initially vote for conflagration of goblins, has anyone who has voted for this actually said it out loud??? its actually quite tough, the assortment of letters to make up that word dont flow well.

So my vote is for Mob.

"oh no look out its a Gob Mob" or "Mob of Goblins".

Silver Crusade

Conflagration. Most definitely

Conflagration is great for us civilized folk, but I shall put forth a much easier to say word, just to be kind to our large headed subjects. I propose they be called a "Tinder of Goblins."

Grand Lodge

En encounter of goblins obviously ;)

Pyre if limited to original 3 choices.
Mischief if not.
